Reference:. Pigot & Co Directory 1840 for Sussex ~ Arundel
Preliminary remark: The words have been left as written in the directory.
Arundel is a market town and borough, both corporate and parliamentary, in the parish, hundred and rape of its name. It is pleasantly situated on a rising ground, and divided into two parts by the river Arun, over which is a neat stone bridge of three arches. The houses are in general neatly built, and many of them are modern and of handsome appearance; the streets are well paved and lighted with gas, and the inhabitants plentifully supplied with excellent water. The environs afford many pleasant walks and rides, and the higher grounds in the vicinity extensive prospects. The trade of Arundel is principally in timber, coal and corn; and the port affords a facility of intercourse between London and the Mediterranean. Ships drawing sixteen feet water can enter the ...

7.1 The Matrix Revisited
<table>
The Matrix Revisited is a feature-length documentary on the production of the movie The Matrix.
The film goes behind the scenes of the 1999 sci-fi movie to give explanations of complicated scenes, previews of the then-forthcoming sequels, and interviews with the cast and crew, including the reclusive Wachowski brothers, who rarely give interviews.
It was first released as the first and only documentary in the series, but was later included as part of a two-disc Collector’s Edition of The Matrix. It now forms part of The Ultimate Matrix Collection.
The original Matrix Revisited DVD had an Easter egg that contains 41 songs that were played in the documentary. One can access this music by going to the Documentary Menu, selecting the Languages Menu and highlighting one of the subtitle options. Press left to highlight a ‘phone booth’. In The Ultimate Matrix Collection version of the disc, the songs are directly ...

6.1 Simulated reality
Simulated reality is the skeptical hypothesis that reality could be simulated -perhaps by computer simulation- to a degree indistinguishable from “true” reality. It could contain conscious minds which may or may not be fully aware that they are living inside a simulation.
This is quite different from the current, technologically achievable concept of virtual reality. Virtual reality is easily distinguished from the experience of actuality; participants are never in doubt about the nature of what they experience. Simulated reality, by contrast, would be hard or impossible to separate from “true” reality.
6.1.1 Types of simulation
6.1.1.1 Brain-computer interface
In brain-computer interface simulations, each participant enters from outside, directly connecting their brain to the simulation computer. The computer transmits sensory data to the participant, reads and responds to their desires and actions in return; in this manner they interact with the simulated world and receive feedback from it. The participant may be induced ...

5.1 Enter the Matrix
This is the first video game based on The Matrix series of films that was put on the market. Its story was concurrent with that of The Matrix Reloaded, and featured over an hour of original footage, directed by the Wachowskis and starring the cast of the film trilogy, produced exclusively for the game. It sold one million copies in its first eighteen days of release, 2.5 million over the first six weeks, and ultimately 5 million copies.
It was first put on sale on 15 May 2003, the same day as “The Matrix Reloaded” was released in North America. “Enter the Matrix” was simultaneously produced with “The Matrix Reloaded” and The “Matrix Revolutions”. It was developed by Shiny Entertainment and published by Atari and WB Interactive for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube and PC. It was published in Japan by Bandai.

4.1 Zion
Zion is a city in The Matrix films, the last and only human city left on the planet Earth after a cataclysmic nuclear war between humanity and the Machines which resulted in these robots with Artificial Intelligence dominating most of the world.
4.1.1 History
After several desperate attempts to halt the seemingly never-ending waves of robot-soldiers taking over more and more human territories, the human leaders realized that the Machines were winning the war and eliminate them. The United Nations decided to retaliate:
- First by spreading a viscous liquid in the sky to prevent the sun rays to reach the earth.
- Secondly by attacking the newly-established machine civilization of Zero-One with nuclear weapons.
However it backfired, especially after the nuclear attack as the humans suffered more from the heat and radiations that the mechanical robots. When the war ended, the Machines having won, the remnants of humanity were left struggling to survive ...

There are three full length movies and one, Animatrix that has nine parts. Seeing and understanding Animatrix help to understand the others.
The first movie, ‘The Matrix’ movie is followed by two others –‘Reloaded’ and ‘Revolution’- that conclude the story. They are deep in plots and characters driven.
There is much about religion in the Matrix (see below the names of the people) even if it is not obvious. One must look for it.
The main people in The Matrix are:
- Morpheus: He is the Captain of the Nebuchadnezzar, a hovercraft of the human forces of the last human city, Zion. Morpheus was once a human living inside the Matrix until he was freed. Like other Hovercraft, Morpheus and his crew are dedicated to the protection of Zion and the freeing of humans from the Matrix. There he is described as a dangerous terrorist wanted by ‘Agents’, who appear to be Federal investigators ...

The earth was totally devastated and only ruins remained to be seen. As the sun was now hidden, the temperature was quite low and no human being, animal, bird could live on it. All the vegetation has also disappeared.
2.1 The machines (robots)
The first robots built by the humans before the war were made to look as closely as possible to human beings. The later models, made by the machines after the war, were more advanced but they were not humanoids anymore; they looked more like strange insects or octopus. As they are made of metal the machines were not directly affected by the war except that their energy source, the sun, was hidden so they could not receive any energy from it. It is not clear where they now lived but probably they only cleared some space and lived somewhere in the cold desolated earth.
Being electrical/mechanical machines they did not ...

The beginning of the story is rather simple. Sometime at the end of the 20th century the humans build robots whose “brains” had artificial intelligence (AI). This was in the USA and, possibly, in other countries as well. The robots were doing all the heavy and unpleasant jobs, working tirelessly without ever complaining. The people were happy as their life was much easier, they were working less and they had a better life.
To the people the robots were second class citizens at best. People treated them not as intelligent beings/machines but as any other tools or any other property. At first the robots accepted this situation but, as their intelligence improved, they soon started to complain and asking to be treated better.
One robot –named B-166-ER- complained about the way he was treated and its owner decided to destroy and replace it by a new more up-to-date model. The robot killed ...

The Matrix, a science fiction film directed by Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski received positive reviews from most critics and the public liked it. It is widely regarded as one of the greatest science fiction films of all time. Entertainment Weekly called The Matrix “the most influential action movie of the generation”.
We were told that the humans built some machines –robots- with Artificial Intelligence to work for them, especially doing the tiring tasks that no human wanted to do. The people treated these machines for what they were to them: mechanical helpers that they owned and that they could dispose off at will. The machines, becoming more and more intelligent, wanted to be treated with respect but the humans were not ready for this. Wars between them became inevitable, the humans winning the first ones but soon it was obvious, even to them, that the machines were becoming too strong ...
