We shuffle through our days, our weeks
and months in the act of doing. Rarely do we take time to stop and
smell the roses, and give thanks except for the one Holiday a year,
Thanksgiving. But we shouldn't have to wait for that day to be thankful.
Every day can be filled with thanks.
Not only should we thank
others, but we should thank ourselves. We should take stock of who we
are and who we've become and celebrate our victories, even the small
ones. Appreciation of where we've come, along the long path of
self-discovery, is so important.
It's easy to give thanks, once we understand how easy it is. It can be
for 1 minute a day. Hug yourself, look up to the heavens and say, "thank
you universe for giving me permission to be who I want to be, and
discover new things, today. Thank you for my growth, and my own
self-awareness. Thank you for all the little miracles that add up to one
big whole awesome ride, called life."
Whether you believe in God, or Mother Nature, or the Universe, or none of it, there is every reason to give thanks.
Start today, with just a minute, to show your gratitude of YOU, the awesome being that you are.
Now,
that I've taken that moment, feeling warm and fuzzy and wonderful as a
human being, I want to give thanks to everyone around me. On a personal
note, I feel a great sense of achievement today. Fourteen years ago
today I moved to the United States from Australia to pursue my dreams as
a music recording artist. Since that day I have released 6 albums, on
my own label I created; built a worldwide non-profit songwriters
organization, Songsalive!; written and published 2 books; toured the
States 3 times and all across Europe; and found the man of my dreams and
married him.
I am very thankful of the blessings in my life,
and the successes that have come to me and that I have created. I am
living my dream.
I couldn't have achieved any of that without
people. There have been numerous angels in my corner to support and
nurture my growth and path and I thank each and every one of them for
their guidance and opportunities. I hope I have also assisted their
dreams too, even a little bit, for this life is all about the give and
the give.

Most of all, I couldn't have achieved any of that without my own sense of purpose, inner confidence and trust that it will all be ok. And it is.
Thank you world.

Today I coached one of my favorite Artist Clients (we work together every month on her music career goals), and the subject of money came up. It came about after she did my Circle of Personal Perspective Exercise (you can find that in my book, Just Get Out There), whereby she perceived her professional goals at a 4 out of 10, less than half. I asked her why she put such a low number, especially after all the work she has been doing in fulfilling her dreams and working on her goals. She replied that it was because even though she has been doing a lot, she isn't making any money from it, and so therefore didn't value her progress.

I reminded her about the chapter I have in my book Just Get Out There, as well as the whole ethos about being a professional artist, in my first book I AM A Professional Artist.

Simply put, I have come to the conclusion from my writings and interviewing other artists, and also how I live my life as an artist, that being a Professional Artist does not mean you have to be making money from your Art. It's a hard pill to swallow even in our enlightened culture, because as a child we and even our parents have been taught that self-value comes from a "good ol' fashioned" job that pays well and affords you all the things you need in this life. I don't want to get into politics in this blog, but I will say that our Western culture emphasizes a definite lenience to "living to work" in our capitalist society, where schools push subjects based on what jobs you can get, and the Arts are pushed aside as electives only, and not mandatory, because it doesn't feed into our "jobs society".

But what if we were brought up to enjoy the Arts, where music, art and dance were encouraged, and where careers in the Arts were respected. Imagine our own self-esteem about following our artistic passions? It would create an entirely different society.

Sometimes we stay in a fog because we don't know how to resolve it or we are confused because we get bogged down in the day to day, and too many decisions and directions to choose from.

This is where the "asking" comes in. Take a moment to find some solitude and quiet. Think about all the things you are confused about, or the decisions and directions that are on your plate, and visualize an opening, a space. If you like to meditate, use those practices to concentrate just on your breath and the silence.

Open the well. Empty your thought. Allow emptiness and silence to be with you for a moment.

Then, when you are ready, ask for clarity. Put it out to the universe.

"Universe, release me from my confusion of the past. Give me clarity in my heart. Allow me to look at life from the beginning of the road, as if I have a whole new future in front of me, not weighed down from my past. I want to see everything as if for the first time. I am ready for joy. I am ready for abundance. I am ready to re-invent myself. I am ready for space to be who I want to be and who I want to become, anew."

Take a deep breath and let it come.
Real stuff happens in and around our lives. But it’s how
we respond to it that makes the difference; whether I attach to it or detach
from it.

I have painted my first canvas in over a year. This is a
major breakthrough. The flow has returned. Strange that I say this? No. It’s
actually quite a meaningful point I want to make.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had a remarkably busy year.
Busy, busy, busy. Productive, busy, creative, busy. Get the picture? Busy.

I’ve conquered many mountains, and been victorious in my
endeavors. It’s been “business as usual” and I’ve written songs, performed
songs, recorded songs and done many other things in between. But have I also
had quiet time to just sit, reflect and ponder the universe? Not much. When I can
do that, my favorite way is to pour a glass of merlot (I can only average
one glass of wine in a blue moon), and with a white, blank canvas inviting me,
imploring me… I splash a multitude of colors on it and my mind is able to drift
into another world.

The silent warrior is in all of us. it's not about war, nor fight and definitely not about struggle. it's about an inner peace and a whole lot of courage to face all fears in unchartered waters, finding the path least traveled and at the same time, finding the path of least resistance. I am a warrior girl and I encourage everyone to tap into their warrior within.

I’ve body surfed since I was a kid
living on the Sydney beaches. But I never actually surfed with a board, though
I have often watched, for hours, those who did. Now living in California, I
have gone from one surf heaven to another.

It’s an interesting concept, surfing. You might be wondering
why I chose the word “concept” over the word “sport”. For the sake of this
chapter, I’m going to call it a “concept” because the Art of surfing could
almost reveal one of the secrets to life: the ability to wait.
I can feel it already. I see it unfolding in two ways. The first I see a great opportunity for renewal. I plan on cleansing, releasing, eliminating and de-cluttering everything that doesn't serve me, and bring my life and my work down to the few things that are important. Secondly, I see it as an opportunity to blossom into creative arenas in uncharted waters, arenas that I have not had time for or had put on the back burner until now, but have always wanted to realize.
I feel particularly thankful for the people in my life right now, as well the opportunities and abundance that i feel so grateful for, and blessed. I also feel a sense of empowerment when I can give to others and contribute to the world around me. I see that with what I do with Songsalive! Wow. October is starting off with a bang. Life is good. What is the most exciting (although it's hard to compare), is I have in my hot little hands, my brand new book, Just Get Out There. I got my proof from the printer. I'll be launching it at the start of November. I'm so excited. It's 330 pages: a good chunk of a book. I hope many artists enjoy the read and feel inspired (actually a kick in the boot), to ignite their careers to the next level, with this read. So, stay tuned and book details

What with the Music in high gear promoting my album "the stillness", and the Book about to come out, as well as now my Visual Art that I'm exhibiting on my website, I'm feeling a sense of creative achievement that I don't know if I've surpassed before. it's very exciting. I am understanding that my purpose is in creating. I'm a creator. I pursue excellence in my creativity on a daily basis. I want to go to bed at night feeling a sense of creative and artistic accomplishment. That in of itself is a great measure of success.

"I realize that I am always free to let go

and observe my life"
- Wayne Dyer

Life on the road as a touring artist has its stories, and also its lessons. Four hours sleep doing the red eye from L.A, via Atlanta, I arrived in Knoxville, Tennessee. I had no idea where that was on the map except that it is a three hour drive from Nashville and is also in Tennessee. But that’s where the commonality ends. Instead of music being its heart, the Smoky Mountains is its claim to fame, amongst also having a reputable university, and once a World Fair.

The first thing I noticed about the Knoxville airport is sandstone walls. The gates and whole airport is built with a very nice indoor facade of sandstone. Then, as you walk down the corridor to baggage claim, there's a gorgeous water fountain, with dozens of live plants. It's, well, pretty. I never would have thought I'd use that word about an airport. It is a welcome relief to the dank grayness of LAX.

I'm performing and speaking at this year's Indiegrrl Women in the Arts Festival/Conference at Knoxville this weekend, and just checked in to the Holiday Inn World's Fair Park. in 1982, this is where the World Fair was and the famous Rubick's cube was revealed here. In fact, in the lobby is the huge Rubick's Cube statue (it's basically a giant Rubick's cube) that was displayed back then. I feel like I'm living part of history. I'm staying on the very exclusive 11th floor (you need a key to access this floor in the elevator). It's a touch of class, amongst a hotel that I don't believe has been renovated since '82, except for my room, which is pretty swanky I have to say.

Of course,.... I knew this day would come. I had been dreaming about it all my life. The "it" day. the day I would feel goose bumps and tingles all over my body, with a heart satiated and a mind feeling accomplished. This is it, today, the day after my 6th album release, of the most fabulous album i've created, "the stillness". Mind you, all my albums have been fabulous to me, but it's always the new ones that feel the best, don't they?

But this album feels different. The experience is different. The support, oh so much different. I feel like i'm releasing a racehorse, compared to the mules i've taken to the racecourse. Not that the albums were mules. Just the support was lacking. This one, however oh my: what a team have I!
Walking along the cobble stone streets, I feel the history, the wars, the romance, the writings, the Art, oh the Art.

And on that note, I'd like to reveal to my diary readers, my definitive CD cover for the upcoming album, The Stillness. I'm putting together a big party on Tuesday June 29, at The Mint, Los Angeles, to celebrate its release. There will be a collective of fabulous musicians who played on the record, and special guest artists too. Quite an extravaganza.

J.Walker and I have just spent the last 48 hours in an amazing whirlwind. We travelled to Seattle to be filmed by 60 Minutes Australia on a really cool story that involves our relationship, relationships in general, and our creative, music lives. What a unique opportunity. The cool part was having the crew in our living room at home in Los Angeles, and then them filming our show at Kulaks in North Hollywood on Saturday night. So, sometime in April we will go from our living room to yours! We’ll keep our Aussie friends posted of the air date, and for those in the rest of the world, hopefully it will be archived on their website online. We will remember this experience for the rest of our lives. Andy Warhol once said “you only get 15 minutes of fame in your life time”. Maybe this 15 min 60 Minute segment is it. Ha ha. What fun!
Photo is with Tara Brown, reporter, Stephen Taylor, producer, J.Walker, gilli moon, Daniel from Seattle, and Tangles on sound, Paul on camera.
And what I year I feel it will be. It started off with 2 of the most fantastic shows I've done in a long while, at Lizottes on the Central Coast NSW Australia, which was a sold out crowd. And then at the Basement in Sydney which I've never performed at and the bees knees play there. Really chuffed.

Back in L.A I'm diving in deep to more performances, one in Hollywood for Film and TV music supervisors, and then NAMM. It's an honor to be selected to play at Namm. I've always wanted to.

I'm starting to put the feelers out about my new album which I play to release in the Spring (late March/early April). I'm truly excited about this album and the handful that have heard it so far believe it to be my best. I feel it so, because I've just come a long way as an artist in all respects, plus my head is twisted on straight this time :) I'm excited to get it out. Some info about it below

Love Gilli

Just out of the studio with her brand new (6th) album, "The Stillness", (official release expected in the Spring of 2010), Australian Hollywood based singer-songwriter, gilli moon,
plans to focus on performing, touring and marketing her new record,
which truly and richly captures her essence, her passions, her
lifelong yearning and mountain climbing (metaphorically speaking) and
arriving, finally, at a place of serenity.

This
album shows the strength of her songwriting, her dynamic vocal range,
and her joy for the piano. Lyrically the songs speak of arriving at a
place of inner-ease and personal strength, of self-knowing and
understanding. It talks of harmony, and peace (personal and world), of
passion and prophesies, of harmony and conflict, of assurance and
doubt, of love and loss... (the dual meanings of life and existence in
this world that we all can't deny.) Ultimately, the new album takes the
listener on a journey through gilli's love stories, life lessons and
observations of the world.

gilli moon
is a unique, evocative and energetic artist and has a perpetual fire
in her belly to purge her life stories and quest for truth through her
music and art. Where 2010 takes her, can only be exciting and
delicious, as she embarks in the marketing of her new album, The
Stillness. gilli leaps empty handed into the void and enjoys the
journey along the way. Come take the ride with gilli moon. Read more

My album is done.
I feel so inspired.

I'm feeling so much lighter.
What I am is all I need to be.
(Song:I AM)

Ladies and gentlemen, my album is done. I completed mastering today at Oasis Mastering in Burbank. 14 tracks and a year to create them. THE STILLNESS.

I am literally crying. What an opus. What a year. What a purge.

I think about finding the stillness. I have felt it, so well, recently. It comes from years... decades... of reaching for it, travelling life and feeling the ups and downs. I have done it, pretty much, on my own, this road as an artist. I've felt the heartache, I've felt pain, I've felt elation, and constant creation. I have had lessons, really hard lessons. I've been a warrior girl, an independent artist constantly striving for victory... dealt with harshness of the music business, and people in that... and continued to run my own affairs and held strong to my dreams... and I have come through the vortex to the other side...
I'm an enigma in my own living room, can't seem to get my tongue to hit the words I want to say
and everything I feel, all that I am I throw out naked
I'm yearning for the outcome of my days to caress my childhood fairytales....
What are you waiting for?.. to run with the wind in my face and swim in the deepest oceans...
and listen to the stillness (Song: The Stillness)
I have had a real love affair with my music, the piano and the music biz. It's been rocky, but when I sit on the piano, i forget the biz, and think of the ivories:
I want to tumble with you inside outside and round and round, till we sleep in the rain clouds. I want to feel everything about you and you of me, inside outside tumbling free (Song: Outside In)

I am so ambitious. I almost gave up. Truly. You may not know that of me. But a little while ago, just before I started putting this album together, I got really tired. You would too if you lived the path least travelled.
But then, jumping into the studio gave me a fresh feeling, and I remembered, oh,... how I remembered, how much I love this MUSIC..... this triumph in artistic freedom.

I am a consummate artist. I create on a daily basis. I have nothing to prove. I do this because I love it. I realized that I don't need to seek anybody else's counsel in my life. I have it right here. I've always had it.

I had a revelation, as I fell asleep last night / a true illumination that put a spotlight on my life / and here I've been yearning, burning dreaming all this time / and I suddenly realized it's all in my mind. If I ever want to talk to someone, who deals in possibilities / someone who can hear what's on my mind, who can be my eyes when I can't see / when I'm feeling down, when I'm feeling blue cos of life's insanity / all i need is a conversation with me. (Song: Conversation With Me. Co-written with Pamela Phillips Oland)

This is what this album is about. It's about me. It's about feeling empowered; feeling a whole lot wiser. I guess I'm all grown up. (Though I like feeling young and being new at it all too). I know that my music path has been filled with a myriad of experiences. But this time, I didn't try and fit into anybody's box. This box is my own.

I am so proud of this body of work and I can't wait to share it with you.

Soon. Very soon.

The release date will be sometime in February 2010.

Until then I send a shout out to these people who gave me so much for this album
Matt Thorne (co-producer) Jeff Walker, Andy Catt (bass), Shawn Cunnane (guitar), Frank Musarra (drums). There are more. A plethora of players and warriors. They'll be listed on the album.

News soon.

Spinning around the
world I’ve been tossed and turned I’ve been around standing my ground, oh yeah

Never once have I
questioned my life, my dreams inside, hiding my pride…oh oh

But I feel so new, my
blood’s coursing through my veins

And I feel so true,..
I have changed

I’m alive – I feel
brand new

I’m alive – because of
you

I’m alive – you’re a
part of my soul

I’m alive – you make
me whole
What a thankful November. I'm so truly blessed to be doing what I do in this
creative world I live in. Really nice to have your email company for a
moment as I share with you my monthly newsletter. Lots of juice this month.
A speaking engagement at MIMICon in
Hollywood, last gig for the year will be on December
1 in L.A for Songsalive! Xmas Party,
    and
2 wonderful shows in Australia with Grace Knight 2nd
and 3rd January and you need to book early to get a seat. Also wrote about my October month
which was full of touring, recording and speaking, plus some
insightful tips for those who want to be artist
    entrepreneurs...
