The Leon Wars is a game inspired by the Might and Magic turn based strategy game series. It is a free Flash game and is not as indepth as the Might and Magic games, but it is well done and will occupy a few hours of your time.

The tech tree is fairly small, but the game itself isn't very long so you don't need an extensive upgrade tree. Once your units are fully upgraded and at full experience, things get more interesting.

The AI is aggressive and smart enough to kill your healers first. There are two sides you can play the story from and there is enough strategy to give this game some decent replay value.

Pirate Defense is a tower defense game with a twist: traps! Use powerful trap combinations to send your pirate enemies through a whirlwind of pain... as well as earn you big gold rewards and points!

I found Pirate Defense to be a nice twist on the tower defense genre. The game itself isn't very long, but figuring out creative ways to kill pirates is really fun and adds a lot of replayability.

Electricman 2 HS is a fun action based game where you control a stick figure man skilled in the martial arts. The premise of the game is you are fighting in a tournament against multiple opponents at once. Each "round" consists of four fights against opponents that get progressively harder and more numerous. Overall, Electricman 2 HS is a fun game and a great time killer.

"Infinity Ward played a single-player level, and the demo is actually the complete version of the truncated demo shown during Microsoft's press conference on Monday. It's the snow level where you begin having to climb an icy mountain using ice picks before you use silenced weapons equipped with hearbeat sensors to sneak through Russian defenses in order to reach a downed satellite. Eventually, there's a gigantic firefight before you escape on snowmobiles in what can only be described as an intense, madcap pursuit. "

Puzzle Core is a new twist on an old game type. It's essentially a Tetris clone except the playing field is split into two sides. On one side the blocks keep coming and you have to eliminate them by matching three or more blocks of the same color before they reach the top of the screen. If they reach the top, they move to the other side of the playing field.

Once they are on the other side of the Puzzle Core field of play, you still have to eliminate the blocks by matching three or more blocks of the same color before they reach the top of the screen again. If a block reaches the top of the second side... Game Over.

It's simple enough to play, but it gets fast paced quick and is pretty hectic. It's fun and a nice change to an old favorite.

Quick Hit Football Takes On Goal Line Blitz

The free football MMORPG arena is starting to get crowded. Early last year Goal Line Blitz entered it's beta testing phase (and still has the "beta" tag) and became a "hit' with an estimated agent base of 50,000 people. Since then, the graphics and interface have been improved somewhat. But, the game play for the typical non-owner and non-general manager has mostly remained the same. In other words, they are in trouble if they don't pick up the pace.

With Quick Hit Football getting ready to enter it's beta testing phase soon and a predicted release of September 2009 (just in time for football season), Goal Line Blitz could be in for some real trouble.

Quick Hit Football and Goal Line Blitz are not quite the same in how they played. For the typical person playing for free, Goal Line Blitz is primarily focused on one to three players, but are generally not very busy. People who pay to play tend to focus on running teams or have numerous players to keep them busy. And, a lot of these people think they have to spend too much time to run a team properly.

Quick Hit Football is looking to let every person run their own team and not deal so much with individual players. People will be naming their own teams, creating their own leagues and running their teams how they choose. However, the Quick Hit Football team looks to be keeping things fairly easy to run a team and not be as time intensive as running a team in Goal Line Blitz.

The biggest difference between Goal Line Blitz and Quick Hit Football is going to be the graphics. With Goal Line Blitz you watch 22 colored dots move around on a field and have to rely on text descriptions to see if anything special happens. Needless to say, games tend to be pretty boring to watch.

Quick Hit Football's graphics are shaping up to be superior in all areas. They're not Madden quality, but they beat the dots by a mile. I know graphics don't make the game, but if the Quick Hit Football team are putting the same effort into the game play as they are the graphics, we should be in for a treat.

Goal Line Blitz at first looked very interesting, and was fun for a while, but eventually playing became more like a job and stopped being fun. I'm looking forward to Quick Hit Football's beta test opening up and jumping in to see how things shape up. Hopefully, they will not make the same mistakes Goal Line Blitz has made.

The FWG Defence game is a Missile Command (a classic arcade game from the the 1980s) clone with a few additions to make the game more interesting. The general concept is you are in command of a missile defense system charged with the defense of six cities. Missiles rain down on your cities and you launch your own missiles to intercept.

The additional features FWG Defence have added include: refreshing your cities shields, re-building your cities, upgrading the speed of your missiles and upgrading the explosive power of your missiles. Overall, FWG Defence is a good 30-45 minute distraction and you can't beat the price (it's free to play).

Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Game Review

The Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures game from Wizards of the Coast is a board game played with prepainted plastic molds of creatures from the Dungeons and Dragons Universe. A game can usually be completed in less than an hour. Other than the figurines, you will need a map and a 20 sided die (included in the starter set).

Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Game Mechanics

Each Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures game creature has nine main attributes: Name, Alignment, Faction, Cost, Level, Armor Class (AC), Defense (DEF), Speed and Hit Points (HP). Each creature also has a basic attack (melee, ranged, close and area) and many have additional special attacks. There are also Special Abilities which are continuous features, including bonuses to DEF, any resistances, immunities or vulnerabilities and abilities that modify its movement.

Name: Each creature has its name on the bottom of its base for easy identification.

Alignment: Each creature is Good, Evil or unaligned.

Faction: Each creature belongs to one or more factions.

Cost: This is the number of points you pay to add a creature to your warband.

Level: This number represents how powerful the creature is.

AC: Many attacks target a creature's AC. If the result of the attack roll equals or exceeds this number, the attack hits.

DEF: Some attacks target a creature's DEF. If the result of the attack roll equals or exceeds this number, the attack hits.

Speed: The number of squares a creature can move with a move action.

HP: When a creature's HP total is reduced to 0, the creature is destroyed and remove from the battle map.

Did you think that was it? Nope. Some Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures creatures even have Special Powers. Special Powers cover a wide range of effects. Special Powers can modify an attack, trigger other effects or activate in response to a condition or another creature's action.

Are we done yet? Nope. One last thing. Champion Ratings and Powers. A creature with a Champion Rating has one or more Champion Powers to influence other creatures and help your warband seize the initiative.

Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Warbands

Now that you know what abilities a Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures creature has, how much it costs and which other creatures it can group with (based on alignment and faction), you can create a Warband of multiple creatures.

The size of a Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Warband and cost of each Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures creature is limited by the point limit of the battle. Typically, a battle will have a point limit of 200. This allows up to 10 creatures with no creature being over 150 points. The rule book also contains a chart of smaller point limits.

Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Battles

Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures battles are strategic in nature ranging from easy to complex. The more creaures involved in the battle, the more complex the strategies become. However, only two creatures per side can perfrom actions each turn. This is to keep the game fast paced, but requires planning ahead when more than two creatures are on each side.

Overall, Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures games are fun to play because the games are fast and do require you do some thinking when putting together your Warbands and planning your moves during the battle.

Runes of Magic Review: Part 1

Runes of Magic is a recently released free to play MMORPG. It appears to have borrowed some features that has made World of Warcraft so popular. Features like fast and easy leveling, grouping optional for your average quests, an easy to learn combat system, upgradable items and instanced dungeons and non-instanced dungeons.

Some features that are unique to Runes of Magic include an interesting dual class system, customizable player housing from the very beginning and an epic crafting system with the chance to improve existing items.

The Runes of Magic graphics are good for a MMO you buy and excellent for a free to play game. Some are a little cartoony, but fit in well with the world. You get some pretty good options for how your character looks during character creation that range from height, thickness, hair styles, faces and feet size.

The sounds and music in Runes of Magic are pretty good, but are some times out of place. The nice relaxing music as you are running through the countryside is nice, but doesn't quite fit when you're beating on a bear. Overall the sound effects are good and provide some nice clues to what's going on in combat.

The Sims 3 Leaked On Torrent Web Sites

With only two weeks before it's official release date of June 2, The Sims 3 has been leaked on torrent web sites. Electronic Arts and Maxis have not made a public statement about the leak so far, but it is reasonable to assume they are not happy about The Sim3 being pirated.

Of course, if this torrent version of The Sims 3 is decent, it could give them a boost in sales when the game comes out on June 2. Unfortunately, if its an incomplete, buggy version, sales could be hurt. Badly.

I'm not a big fan of Electronic Arts, but I do like Maxis and hope The Sims 3 leaked on torrent web sites does not hurt them.
