Hello, everyone! Happy New Year to all of my readers :) I hope you guys had fun on your holiday vacation!

Anyway, I was browsing on my reading list the other night and I spotted this really cool survey by Jamie from The Perpetual Page-Turner called End Of The Year Book Survey.

There are several and different questions about the books you've read through out 2011. And since I've read quite a lot last year, I thought why not reflect and reminisce on the books I've read and share everyone my favorite (and not-so favorite) reads last 2011.

1. Best Book You Read In 2011?
Whoa. I've read quite a lot of awesome books this year so it's really difficult to pick just one. Here are the books that blew my mind and are definitely on my all-time favorites list:

Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder

Blood Red Road by Moira Young

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Stay by Deb Caletti

Divergent by Veronica Roth

Burn Bright by Marianne de Pierres

Kat, Incorrigible by Stephanie Burgis

I'm Not Her by Janet Gurtler

Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton

Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton

Virtuosity by Jessica Martinez

and sooo much more...!!

2. Most Disappointing Book/Book You Wish You Loved More Than You Did?
Hmmm, Forgotten by Cat Patrick. I just find some lacking on the credibility of the character's condition that wholly affected my total entertainment of the book. I thought maybe if it was more in-depth I could've liked it more than I did.

3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2011?
I'm gonna have to pick Burn Bright by Marianne de Pierres. Everything was so fresh for me and the creativity of this book is just AMAZING and the plot is full of surprises and it's just utterly unpredictable. Awesome, awesome book!

4. Book you recommended to people most in 2011?
I'd pick Harry Potter books in a heart beat but we're talking about books I've read during 2011 so it's definitely Blood Red Road. It's a whole new read and utterly awesome read. One of my all-time favorites.

5. Best series you discovered in 2011?
Fantasy/Paranormal genre is my first love so it's definitely The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. It's fast paced, engrossing and has a lot of hot and swoon-worthy characters *ahemJaceahem*

6. Favorite new authors you discovered in 2011?
Lauren Oliver, Moira Young, Veronica Roth, Tahereh Mafi, Marianne de Pierres, Cassandra Clare, Janet Gurtler, Deb Caletti, Stephanie Burgis... there are just soo many of them! :)

7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you? When I first started out my blog, I haven't read any dystopia books. I was all fantasy and mystery stories. It was Delirium by Lauren Oliver that introduced me into dystopia and I love it. After that, I got addicted and went hunting on dystopia books. Huntress by Malinda Lo is also the first LGBT book I've read and I developed an infatuation over it. It's a beautiful story.

8. Most thrilling, unputdownable book in 2011?
Ooohh! This is difficult! Aside from the all-time favorites TMI series and THG trilogy, I would like to spotlight here the first book from Moira Young's Dustlands trilogy, Blood Red Road. I know I keep saying it but what can I say? I'm obsessed with this book.

9. Book you most anticipated in 2011?
I was really excited for Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton and Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton which are really great and recommendable reads.

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2011?
Burn Bright by Marianne de Pierres

11. Most memorable character in 2011?
I've met a lot of interesting and unique characters last year like Katniss from The Hunger Games, Juliette from Shatter Me, Lena from Delirium, Kat Stephenson from Kat Incorrigible and Saba from Blood Red Road.

12. Most beautifully written book read in 2011?
These are the books I find beautifully and uniquely written:

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

Stay by Deb Caletti

Delirium by Lauren Oliver

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Blood Red Road by Moira Young

Burn Bright by Marianne de Pierres

13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2011?
Delirium by Lauren Oliver

14. Book you can't believe you waited UNTIL 2011 to finally read?
The Mortal Instruments, The Hunger Games and Percy Jackson series!

15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2011?

"It's so strange how life works: You want something and you wait and wait and feel like it's taking forever to come. Then it happens and it's over and all you want to do is curl back up in that moment before things changed." - Lauren Oliver from Delirium

16. Book That You Read In 2011 That Would Be Most Likely To Reread In 2012?
I will most likely reread The Hunger Games before I watch the movie on March 2012 :)

17. Book That Had A Scene In It That Had You Reeling And Dying To Talk To Somebody About It? (a WTF moment, an epic revelation, a steamy kiss, etc. etc.) Be careful of spoilers!
The ending scene in Delirium. I want to hysterically sob with someone because of that scene! SERIOUSLY!

Book Blogging/Reading Life in 2011

Publication date: October 7th 2011

Summary via Goodreads:

First of five books. The Key of Credence tells us about Ryan and her friends and how their simple curiosity brought forth a multitude of problems to them. This book lets the readers experience an entirely new and different world—one that involves the Heavens and the Helles, and most of all—it shows how the humans themselves and how the innate goodness of their souls can create a huge difference on just about everything.

The Seven is one of those books that made me reminisce my childhood days. This is one of the reasons why I love reading Middle Grade books. There is something unsullied and just delightful about them that some YA books failed to have.

Moving on, I have so many things to like about The Seven. First of all, it was written by a Filipina. Isn’t that awesome? Veronica Mist is a natural story-teller. I love how she effortlessly weaved Sanctus Mundus into my head and lose myself with her story and characters. I felt instantly connected with the characters especially the protagonist, Ryan. Her friends, Danielle, Rie (I mean, Larisse! LOL) and Sam are also fantastic supporting characters. I had so much fun with their adventures and watching their friendship grow more stronger.

Another beautiful thing about the story is it is surrounded with moral values like the importance of friendship and loyalty and having courage and faith when facing adversity.

Bottomline, I genuinely enjoyed this book! I’ giving this a solid 4 out of 5 stars and I definitely recommend this.
Summary via Goodreads:

The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy… he’s in college, has a girlfriend… and he can travel back through time. But it’s not like the movies – nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there’s no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors – it’s just harmless fun.

That is… until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he’s stuck in 2007 and can’t get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities.

But it’s not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these “Enemies of Time” will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit… or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he’s willing to go to save Holly… and possibly the entire world.

Tempest is kind of like a mix of Back To The Future (one of my all-time favorite films) and The Time Machine. Jackson, the protagonist, definitely reminds me of Marty McFly's humor and laid-back but tough attitude and Dr. Hartdegen's unyielding love for his girlfriend, which in Jackson's case, Holly.

I was sucked into the story from the very first page! The story, in general, was unpredictable, dynamic and riveting. The combination of Julie Cross’ astonishing imagination and craft in making absorbing action scenes was enough for me to enjoy this book a lot. Furthermore, Julie Cross' writing style is fresh and so convincing, I find myself wondering if this is really a debut novel.

The characters are so believable and very well-developed. I think my favorite aspect of the story is Jackson himself. I absolutely love his dynamic and vivid voice. He has a lot of common sense, so tangible and very relatable in many ways (apparently, except the time-travelling bit, unless you're a time-traveller then I think we should be friends), that I felt so emotionally invested in him and the people around him. Another that was really amazing in the story is Jackson’s relationship with Holly. Wow. Both of them are so lovely and their relationship was so realistic. I’m sure a lot of people are going to fall in love with them. Definitely one of the things I love about the book!

While the plot was undeniably addictive, there are a few parts where I find a little slow, pacing-wise. I mean, there were times that the plot was moving fast and then after a couple of chapters, it’ll fall down into sluggishness and then will picked up again.

I’m giving Tempest a strong 4 out of 5 stars. You’re probably asking ‘Why only 4 stars, you said you enjoyed it??’ I did, alright! It’s just that the ending was not what I expected. I didn’t like it, although it definitely broke my heart. But again, that’s just me. Again, I really enjoyed Tempest (just not the ending) I think everyone will enjoy this as much as I did, especially if you are a fan of Sci-Fi that involves time-travelling, then I highly recommend this book for you.
Author: Robin Wasserman
Publication date: April 10th 2012
Published by Random House Children's Books

Summary via Goodreads:

It was like a nightmare, but there was no waking up. When the night began, Nora had two best friends and an embarrassingly storybook one true love. When it ended, she had nothing but blood on her hands and an echoing scream that stopped only when the tranquilizers pierced her veins and left her in the merciful dark.

But the next morning, it was all still true: Chris was dead. His girlfriend Adriane, Nora's best friend, was catatonic. And Max, Nora's sweet, smart, soft-spoken Prince Charming, was gone. He was also—according to the police, according to her parents, according to everyone—a murderer.

Desperate to prove his innocence, Nora follows the trail of blood, no matter where it leads. It ultimately brings her to the ancient streets of Prague, where she is drawn into a dark web of secret societies and shadowy conspirators, all driven by a mad desire to possess something that might not even exist. For buried in a centuries-old manuscript is the secret to ultimate knowledge and communion with the divine; it is said that he who controls the Lumen Dei controls the world. Unbeknownst to her, Nora now holds the crucial key to unlocking its secrets. Her night of blood is just one piece in a puzzle that spans continents and centuries. Solving it may be the only way she can save her own life.

I was first drawn to the book cover. It's so inviting and when I read the summary, I became more curious! It's like going from a plain suspense-thriller to a whole new level of fantasy and paranormal :)
Summary via Goodreads:

The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They've overcome the secrets riddled in Patch's dark past...bridged two irreconcilable worlds...faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust...and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for—and their love—forever.

Silence is the third installment from Becca Fitzpatrick’s sexy, addictive and thrilling Hush, Hush saga. I am a huge fan of Hush, Hush books, they are all well-written, the plot is fast-paced, the mystery and suspense is obsessing and the romance can drive anyone crazy. It was after reading the first book, Hush, Hush that made me decide to make a book blog so Hush, Hush is a big part of my book blog’s making.

Anyway, back on to the third book, Silence has been on my anticipated reads for this year, waaay back from when Becca called it ‘Tempest’ until the day she announced that she’s going to call the third book ‘Silence’. The cliffhanger at the end of Crescendo left my jaw hanging so when my BFF Marrion from Palm Books Journal told me he already have a copy of Crescendo and he’s lending it to me (bless him), I didn’t think twice!

And Becca Fitzpatrick did it again in Silence! The excitement and mystery in Silence was as gripping and addictive as ever! One of the effects of Hush, Hush books on me is having the power to sucked into the story instantly and never let my attention go anywhere else.

I love the character development on this one, most especially Nora, who really disappointed me in Crescendo, redeemed herself in this book. I was so glad that she leveled up, personality-wise. She’s gained more independence and spunk and used her head a lot of times in this book. No more jumping to conclusions, thank God! Same with Patch, I was pleasantly surprised to see the new side of him, which was not what I expected at all. There are also characters from Crescendo that are back like Scott Parnell, and Detective Basso. Unfortunately, Vee, who I really loved on Hush, Hush and Crescendo, disappointed me on this one (just a wee bit). I hope that one the fourth book (which from what I heard is the last book in the saga) she would redeem herself. Patch and Nora’s relationship went on a whole new level on this book. I really, really hope they keep this up until the fourth book.

Overall, I loved and devoured Silence. I’m giving this 4.5 out 5 stars and I highly recommend this to all hardcore Hush, Hush fans (like me!) and to those who genuinely love Paranormal with a mix of heart-racing romance.

Haven't read the first two books yet? (Why not??)

Title: Grave Mercy (His Fair Assasin, #1)
Author: R.L. LaFevers
Publication date: April 3, 2012
Published by Houghton Miffin Harcourt

Summary via Goodreads:

Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?

Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.

Ismae's most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?

I seriously loooove the sound of this! Handmaiden to Death? So cool! I smell suspense, action and romance! Plus the cover is just stunning!

At last, Avery thought that she had made it back to a normal high school life-- except for the death threats on her head and the harpie in her backyard. Trouble never stays far away though, and Mikhail hatches a plan that endangers life as she knows it. Avery is drawn back into a vicious harpie war and is finally forced to confront her relationship with Mason whether she is ready to or not.

Grounded is the second installment from Constance Sharper's exhilarating Airborne Saga. I really enjoyed the first book, Airborne, and left me wanting for more so I was really looking forward into reading Grounded. I had high expectations on this one because Airborne was really amazing. And Grounded did not disappoint!

One of the reasons why I really love the Airborne Saga is because there is always something happening that will caught your attention. Constance have her own way of doing that brilliantly and that's one of the things I absolutely love about her. The whole plot was engrossing and gripping!! I feel so lucky to be able to read this! Seriously, if you haven't picked up this book or the first one, you should grab one ASAP!

Avery, as always, love her! She's still the spunky yet caring and independent girl I've known from the first book, if not tougher. I love the fact that sometimes she doesn't need Mason in order to get herself out of trouble or save herself. She's definitely far from a "damsel in distress". And finally, finally, after enduring the painful tension they had on the first book, Avery and Mason are finally together! As in as a couple. This is perhaps one of the reasons why I'm looking forward to Grounded. They complement each other and I also love how much faith they have on each other, it's just so cute and romantic!

The supporting characters are also entertaining and added certain thrill on the story. Leela got involved on the whole Harpie thing but she quickly redeemed herself. On the other hand, Adalyn finally got what she deserved (cue evil laughs) Okay, I don't hate her that much, just a little (Teehee!). Eva, hmmm, I have a feeling about this Harpie girl and it's not a good one. Then, there is a new character (sort of), Patrick, who is another Harpie, and a strong and flirtatious one, too. He's kind of interesting and I hope we can learn more about him on the next installment, Windswept.

If you enjoyed Airborne, you'll love Grounded! I think this is my favorite Airborne book. It's intense and definitely addictive! I'm giving this 5 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend this refreshing Urban Fantasy adventure about Harpies!

I am extremely excited for 2012 mainly because, apart from the sequels I'm anticipating to read, there will be awesome upcoming releases as well! I think the best way to celebrate their release is by joining The Story Siren's 2012 Debut Author Challenge. For days, I've been browsing the 2012 DAC list on Goodreads in search for the books I'll include for the challenge and finally last night, I was able to wrap up my list. I'm really, really looking forward to these books, they will surely rock my 2012!

Summary via Goodreads:

When her father tries to steal a magic cure for his sick wife from the beastly master of the mysterious mansion outside her home town, seventeen-year-old Bee is the one forced to go live with him. But Will isn't anything like she expected. He's the same age as she is, for one thing. He's also really handsome, contrary to local legend.

Well, maybe the whole "beast" thing is meant to be metaphorical, because he's a total jerk.

Between the house's weird magic and Will's snobby attitude, the situation is nearly unbearable, and Bee only wants to escape. But the house is sealed by magic, and they can only leave if they break the curse.

The witch who cursed Will left him a way to break it, and the answer lies in a riddle. Although Bee would rather eat dirt than be nice to Will, they're going to have to learn to work together if they want to solve it and break the curse.

Because time is running out.

The Curse Girl is a delightful retelling of the classic fairytale The Beauty & the Beast. Along with its promising premise, it was the other reason why I wanted to review this story (I love The Beauty & the Beast!). I had a feeling that I’m going to enjoy it and I definitely did!

One of the things why I genuinely enjoyed The Curse Girl is because it has its own distinctive story despite being a retelling. Author, Kate Ellison, brilliantly spin her own unique twist and dash of romance and mystery while keeping the main theme of the fairytale alive.

The story was has the right dose of pacing. I got instantly hooked! Furthermore, Ellison’s writing style is straight-forward and certainly gripping. Ellison’s version of the mansion where the Beast lives along with his cursed Butler and other servants, was perhaps one of my favorite aspects in the story. The mansion itself was spooky and seemed to have its own life!

The characters worked well for me too. I think Ellison did a really impressive job in terms of crafting her own version of Beast and Belle and even with the house servants. Let’s start with Will who is the “Beast” in the story. First of all he’s not as hairy as a beast or has a razor sharp teeth, he’s actually handsome but his snobbish and hot-tempered attitude that is more “beastly” Bee, on the other hand, the “Beauty” or Belle in the story, is merely a simple girl but because of his father’s betrayal and selfishness, she ended up locked up in a cursed mansion. Along with Bee and Will, I really liked Will’s little sister, Rose, too. She’s such an adorable young girl. There’s a mysterious character as well, Liam. He was like Bee’s confidant during her stay at the mansion. Perhaps, he’s one of the reason why I got deeply hooked in the story.

Overall, The Curse Girl is a highly entertaining story with well-written plot and characters. I’m giving this 4.5 out 5 stars and I definitely recommend this to fans of YA Retellings and to those who genuinely enjoy fantasy stories!

Summary via Goodreads:

Generations ago, a genetic experiment gone wrong—the Reduction—decimated humanity, giving rise to a Luddite nobility who outlawed most technology.

Eighteen-year-old Luddite Elliot North has always known her place in this caste system. Four years ago Elliot refused to run away with her childhood sweetheart, the servant Kai, choosing duty to her family’s estate over love. But now the world has changed: a new class of Post-Reductionists is jumpstarting the wheel of progress and threatening Luddite control; Elliot’s estate is floundering; and she’s forced to rent land to the mysterious Cloud Fleet, a group of shipbuilders that includes renowned explorer Captain Malakai Wentforth—an almost unrecognizable Kai. And while Elliott wonders if this could be their second chance, Kai seems determined to show Elliot exactly what she gave up when she abandoned him.

But Elliot soon discovers her childhood friend carries a secret—-one that could change the society in which they live…or bring it to its knees. And again, she’s faced with a choice: cling to what she’s been raised to believe, or cast her lot with the only boy she’s ever loved, even if she has lost him forever.

Inspired by Jane Austen’s PERSUASION, FOR DARKNESS SHOWS THE STARS is a breathtaking romance about opening your mind to the future and your heart to the one person you know can break it.

I am SO intrigued by the sound of this! The premise sounds promising and not to mention the cover is definitely eye-catching! However, I haven't read Peterfreund's previous books yet, (her books about killer unicorns which sounds really unique and awesome too) or Jane Austen's Persuasion but I'm planning to read Persuasion first before reading this since it's like a retelling of that book. I'm just EXTREMELY excited for this!

Debut novelist Kiki Hamilton takes readers from the gritty slums and glittering ballrooms of Victorian London to the beguiling but menacing Otherworld of the Fey in this spellbinding tale of romance, suspense, and danger.

The year is 1871, and Tiki has been making a home for herself and her family of orphans in a deserted hideaway adjoining Charing Cross Station in central London. Their only means of survival is by picking pockets. One December night, Tiki steals a ring, and sets off a chain of events that could lead to all-out war with the Fey. For the ring belongs to Queen Victoria, and it binds the rulers of England and the realm of Faerie to peace. With the ring missing, a rebel group of faeries hopes to break the treaty with dark magic and blood—Tiki’s blood.

Unbeknownst to Tiki, she is being watched—and protected—by Rieker, a fellow thief who suspects she is involved in the disappearance of the ring. Rieker has secrets of his own, and Tiki is not all that she appears to be. Her very existence haunts Prince Leopold, the Queen’s son, who is driven to know more about the mysterious mark that encircles her wrist.

Prince, pauper, and thief—all must work together to secure the treaty…

The Faerie Ring will transport its readers to the Victorian England where the shadows of those unseen are scattered everywhere. I love Victorian England, every time I see or hear it, the first thing that will pop into my mind is magic. And this is my most favorite aspect of the story, the world building was so vivid and compelling and with Hamilton’s words, I painted the Victorian London and the slums to where Tiki and her friends are living inside my head almost perfectly. It’s so easy to lose yourself in The Faerie Ring because of its rich setting. To put it simply, Hamilton’s story-telling is simply full of life, engrossing and authentic.

Tiki is such a wonderful and admirable protagonist. She’s a survivor with a beautiful heart. I really love how she genuinely care about her new found family and her dream of making a new life for them was just really inspiring. Rieker is a very enigmatic character. From the very first time he appeared in the story, I was already intrigued by him and every now and then, he had me thinking whose side he was really on. I seriously enjoyed his unfathomable bearing. Prince Leopold was also another character I truly enjoyed, he was likable just as much as Tiki and Rieker. I’m really looking forward for more on these characters as well as to the supporting characters.

Reading The Faerie Ring was almost like reading my favorite fairytale book. It’s such a magical and enthralling adventure. I'm giving this 4 out of 5 stars and I highly recommend this to avid readers of YA Historical Fiction and Urban Fantasy and also to those who loves faerie tales.
New Hampshire high school junior Lizzie Davenport has been reincarnated from Regency Era, England ... but she doesn't know it yet.

Then Drew Carmichael transfers into Lizzie's school at the beginning of the year, and she feels a connection to him, almost like she knows him. She can't stop thinking about him, but whenever she tries talking with him about the mysteries behind her feelings, he makes it clear that he wants nothing to do with her. Reaching him is even more difficult because she has a boyfriend, Jeremy, who has started to become full of himself after being elected co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and her flirtatious best friend Chelsea starts dating Drew soon after his arrival. So why can't she seem to get him out of her mind?

Even though Lizzie knows she should let go of her fascination with Drew, the pair of them soon find that fighting fate isn't going to be easy.

The first thing that I noticed on Remembrance was the stunning and gorgeous cover. And then I found out that the story was inspired by Taylor Swift hit song “Love Story” (which I really love) that made my interest leveled up! I was also intrigued by the plot because I personally love stories with 'reincarnation' themes. So I asked for a review copy from the author, Michelle Madow, and she happily provided one for me. Thanks, Michelle!

Remembrance is an astonishing and unique love story. I enjoyed the story so much! I liked how well-balanced the story was. It wasn’t over the top, all of the elements are in proportion which made the story very entertaining as a whole. Madow’s writing style was very impressive especially for a debut author like her. It was simple yet really gripping. The story was simply captivating and the plot was original. I was also pleasantly surprised that Madow threw some Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in the story which really blended well with the book’s plot.

Just like the plot, the characters are all very well-developed especially the protagonist, Lizzie and the charming Drew. The supporting characters are also wonderful, they definitely added some kick in the story.

Remembrance is a wonderful start in a series. It’s a brilliant mix of romance, fantasy and reality. I seriously couldn’t wait for the next book, Vengeance! I’m giving this book 4.5 out of 5 stars and I definitely recommend this to all YA Romance readers!
Two days before the start of her junior year, seventeen-year-old Janelle Tenner is hit by a pickup truck and killed—as in blinding light, scenes of her life flashing before her, and then nothing. Except the next thing she knows, she’s opening her eyes to find Ben Michaels, a loner from her high school whom Janelle has never talked to, leaning over her. And even though it isn’t possible, Janelle knows—with every fiber of her being—that Ben has somehow brought her back to life.

But her reincarnation, and Ben’s possible role in it, is only the first of the puzzles that Janelle must solve. While snooping in her FBI-agent father’s files for clues about her accident, she uncovers a clock that seems to be counting down to something—but to what? And when someone close to Janelle is killed, she can no longer deny what’s right in front of her: Everything that’s happened—the accident, the murder, the countdown clock, Ben’s sudden appearance in her life—points to the end of life as she knows it. And as the clock ticks down, she realizes that if she wants to put a stop to the end of the world, she’s going to need to uncover Ben’s secrets—and keep from falling in love with him in the process.

Summary via Goodreads:

As a little girl, Daisy Appleby was killed in a school bus crash. Moments after the accident, she was brought back to life.

A secret government agency has developed a drug called Revive that can bring people back from the dead, and Daisy Appleby, a test subject, has been Revived five times in fifteen years. Daisy takes extraordinary risks, knowing that she can beat death, but each new death also means a new name, a new city, and a new life. When she meets Matt McKean, Daisy begins to question the moral implications of Revive, and as she discovers the agency’s true goals, she realizes she’s at the center of something much larger — and more sinister — than she ever imagined.

As you may have noticed, both books have similar theme: the protagonists are both brought back to life! It's both intriguing and fascinating at the same time. Also, I liked Cat Patrick's debut novel, Forgotten, her writing style is really impressive so I'm really looking forward to read Revived. I think both books' plot is really intense!
Summary via Goodreads:

Three years ago, Sophie Mercer discovered that she was a witch. It's gotten her into a few scrapes. Her non-gifted mother has been as supportive as possible, consulting Sophie's estranged father--an elusive European warlock--only when necessary. But when Sophie attracts too much human attention for a prom-night spell gone horribly wrong, it's her dad who decides her punishment: exile to Hex Hall, an isolated reform school for wayward Prodigium, a.k.a. witches, faeries, and shapeshifters.

By the end of her first day among fellow freak-teens, Sophie has quite a scorecard: three powerful enemies who look like supermodels, a futile crush on a gorgeous warlock, a creepy tagalong ghost, and a new roommate who happens to be the most hated person and only vampire student on campus. Worse, Sophie soon learns that a mysterious predator has been attacking students, and her only friend is the number-one suspect.

As a series of blood-curdling mysteries starts to converge, Sophie prepares for the biggest threat of all: an ancient secret society determined to destroy all Prodigium, especially her.

I remember seeing Hex Hall for the first time on Goodreads and falling inlove with its plot. My excitement heightened even more after reading LOTS of positive reviews about it and I realized that I NEED to read it!

I have probably said this too many times but I just love stories with witches or wizards themes. I'm just really, really fascinated with them and the story of Sophie Mercer is definitely one of my favorites!

What I absolutely loved about Hex Hall was its fantastic plot which is full of mystery and humor. It was also perfectly paced and has an entertaining set of characters. It was definitely a delightful read! The idea about Prodigium was really refreshing for me because not only it's a reform school but it's a reform school for "magical" ones or from what Sophie had said "Juvie for Monsters". Sophie's misadventures inside the reform school was positively funny I've lost count on how many times I've laughed my head off! And the twist on climax was really, really awesome! Didn't see that coming!

I had such a wonderful time reading the book from Sophie's point of view. She's so witty, straight-forward and certainly funny. In a way, she kind of reminds me of Mildred Hubble from The Worst Witch (another favorite witch of mine). The supporting characters like Jenna, Archer and Elodie were all fun to read as well. They made the story more lively and adds certain thrill in the plot.

Hex Hall is a light and highly entertaining read and great start of a series full of wild adventures and I am so ready to read the sequel Demon Glass (hopefully before the third book comes out). I'm giving Hex Hall a solid 4.5 stars out of 5 I recommend this to those who loves YA Paranormal stories with mystery and great humor.

I instantly loved it because of that special twist Cuono did in the world of faeries and, furthermore, the story was absolutely exhilarating and fast-paced!

Today is a special day here on my blog because we're celebrating the cover reveal for Battle Scars, book two from Elemental series. Elemental Reality has one of the most stunning and eye-catching covers I've seen this year (I know many readers would agree with me in this) so my hopes are up for the the next book's cover as well. So here's the cover and the teaser!

Prepare to be taken away!

How do you carry on fighting for your family when you’re left scarred and broken? When your dreams are plagued by nightmares, how do you strengthen the armor needed to protect yourself again? Callie’s been defeated by the loss of her entire family. With the help of old and new friends, will she build her battle armor up and fight the evil hands of the Demons who threaten to destroy her new home? Or will her battle scars leave her too broken and empty to fight?

I just love the colors that they used in this one. It look so vibrant! Thumbs up! I'm so excited for Battle Scars, can't wait for Callie to beat up those demons' butts!

Tell me what you think about the cover! And have you read Elemental Reality yet? If you haven't go and get yourself a copy. Summary via Goodreads:

Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

One word: RIVETING.

I feel so lucky and grateful that I actually signed up for this at Pinoy Book Tours. I genuinely love Shatter Me, like every bit of this story. It completely blew me away! I'm having a hard time believing that this is Tahereh Mafi's debut novel because it's absolutely astounding in so many levels!

For one, Mafi is a brilliant writer. God. I devoured each page of this enthralling, invigorating and page-turner of a book! Mafi's captivating and eloquent way of story-telling is unbelievably convincing and so beautiful so beautiful so beautiful. Her unique and almost resounding way of writing is one of main reason why I got hooked up with the story instantly. She gave her readers a great access of Juliette’s utter thoughts and emotions, almost as if I was standing in her shoes.

One of the main reasons why I absolutely love this book is because the characters are splendidly and effectively written. Wow. I honestly enjoyed them all but my favorite character in the book is definitely the protagonist herself.

Juliette is an amazing character in every sense of the word. Seeing her transform from a timid, unsure and emotionally battered girl to a strong-willed and independent and confident fighter was such a pleasant thing. I loved that she stick to her own morals despite how cruel the people towards her, I love that despite she has a beautiful heart, she uses her head too in making decisions. She’s just the right amount of everything. And then there’s Adam. He came in the story like a riddle that is quite hard to crack. Like Juliette, he got me thinking, at the first couple of chapters, what his real agenda is. While he’s an astute, determined character with unwavering courage, he’s got an amazing heart that can see right through you, he so genuine and just devastatingly charming it’s impossible not to fall head over heels on him!

Juliette’s relationship with Adam was another reason. Their romance was intense and tender at the same time. They got my head spinning (in a good way) and gave me lots of palpitations. I love how they genuinely care and love each other, in a way that some people around them will never understand. I just love them both, definitely one of the best YA couple. Ever.

The plot of the story was filled with twists and surprises here and there, the action and suspense was so consuming. The world Mafi has set this story in was remarkably compelling and terrifying at the same, it’s an incredible combination of dystopia, sci-fi and paranormal. Mafi nailed all of the three of them!

Shatter Me is, unquestionably, one of the best I’ve read this year and I know I’ll be thinking about it for next <strike>couple of</strike> few weeks. I am so giving this 5 out of 5 stars (and some more!) and I definitely recommend this to EVERYONE. I want everyone to feel that lingering thrill Shatter Me has put on me.

Shatter Me is out now!

Published by HarperTeen
Publication date: April 24, 2012

Summary via Goodreads:

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Oh, my! Oh my! Look at that gorgeous cover! Who wouldn't pick that up?!? It's breath-taking (the dresses!!) Okay, confession, I love reality shows (and dresses, gorgeous ones) and this sounds like a very unique one. There are 35 girls competing, I'm sure the game is going to get messy at one point! And I can already feel the tension -- there's a prince and the protagonist's "secret love" ...oh, this ought to be good.

This is just a quick post about my reaction on the release of most-anticipated movie of 2012, The Hunger Games. Quick post because I'm in the middle of work (LOL).

I was one of the many fans of The Hunger Games who have been patiently waiting for the release of this trailer. I woke up today around six in the morning because I was planning on continuing to write my articles (work stuff) but then I suddenly remembered that the trailer was released last night so I went and logged on YouTube and watched it.

One word: IMPECCABLE.

Seriously, it was extremely awesome and it's going to kick ass next year! I even had every member of my family watch it just because I can't calm down! My heart was pounding through the entire trailer and it gave me goose bumps! Until right this very second, as I am typing these words, I have goosebumps on my arms. IT'S INSANE. I can't explain how excited I am for this, I've never felt like this since Harry Potter. And I've already lost count on how many times I hit the 'replay' button. (I bet the replay button will be severely abused for four months).

This line is the one that gave me goosebumps all over my body: "I volunteer as tribute!"

March 23rd needs to get here. FAST.

Summary via Goodreads:

Every other day, Kali D'Angelo is a normal sixteen-year-old girl. She goes to public high school. She attends pep rallies. She's human.

And then every day in between . . .She's something else entirely.

Though she still looks like herself, every twenty-four hours predatory instincts take over and Kali becomes a feared demon-hunter with the undeniable urge to hunt, trap, and kill zombies, hellhounds, and other supernatural creatures. Kali has no idea why she is the way she is, but she gives in to instinct anyway. Even though the government considers it environmental terrorism.

When Kali notices a mark on the lower back of a popular girl at school, she knows instantly that the girl is marked for death by one of these creatures. Kali has twenty-four hours to save her and, unfortunately, she'll have to do it as a human. With the help of a few new friends, Kali takes a risk that her human body might not survive. . .and learns the secrets of her mysterious condition in the process.

When started reading this book, I wasn't sure what to expect because this is my first Jennifer Lynn Barnes book to read. I was curious about the book summary, though. It sounds different and very appealing to Paranormal junkies like me. In addition, I've read a handful of awesome things about Every Other Day from Goodreads and some book blogs and I've grown curious.

From the first page I was completely hooked up. The idea of a seventeen-year old girl who changes from a normal girl to a savage and ruthless demon-slayer was utterly fantastic! The events are getting more and more intense as I turn the page and I had no clue what's going to happen next! The story was jammed packed with action, fast-paced story, feisty heroine, intensifying mystery, and awesome dialogues -- it's simply everything I wanted!

While I have lots of favorite aspect of the story, the characters' relationship building is my most favorite. The way Kali's life changed within 24 hours was absolutely fun to read especially the way her relationship with Bethany (the resident popular cheerleader) and Skylar (the eccentric and a little bit clairvoyant) happened. The three of them are very unlikely to be friends plus Kali wasn't used to having friends. She was used to being alone, keeping her feelings to herself and used to have no one caring for her. But because of that single momentous event, the three of them are tied up with each other and Kali learned how to open up and live quite normally. Kali's relationship with other characters was also wonderfully written.

Another aspect of the story that I really, really enjoyed was Barnes' writing style. It was very intoxicating and compelling! (And by saying that, I am so picking up her other books!) And that twist she pulled in the climax?? I definitely did not see that coming!!

Overall, I absolutely loved Every Other Day, definitely one of my all-time favorites. I'm giving this 5 out of 5 stars and I HIGHLY recommend this to all Urban Fantasy readers and to those who loves non-stop and riveting action.

TGIF is a weekly bookish meme hosted by Ginger at G-Reads!

Today's topic is all about the characters I love to hate. I remember posting a question from a bookish meme before and talked about my favorite villains, I guess this one is quite similar with it but today I'm going to share the others I did not mention and the ones I've recently discovered. Here are my picks (in random order):
