La Farm Bakery is now also a rustic private event venue

Also located in Cary, the reputable La Farm Bakery expanded for the purpose of opening a private room. Itâ€s a very flexible space that can seat up to 25 people. The room is rustic and gorgeous, just like their menu. Your dinner companions will be in good hands when you dine at La Farm. Mandolin with the Modern Farmhouse Aesthetic

I love Chef Sean Fowler’s fresh approach to Southern food. He sources his ingredients from North Carolina farmers and also has small farm himself. (Not to brag, but I got to meet one of his goats!) His restaurant, Mandolin, has a private dining space with a bright modern farmhouse aesthetic. It accommodates up to 24 seated guests and 30 guests for a standing cocktail reception.

I’ve personally experienced the private dining space at Oak Steakhouse and it’s just as gorgeous in person as is in this photo. Oak Steakhouse’s private dining room is customizable to your needs and their maximum capacity is 40. I’m a big fan of their team and talent. What I wouldn’t give right now for a tray of their dinner rolls and their beef wellington.

Kingfisher with Intimate and Personal Booths for Small Parties

While specialty cocktail bar Kingfisher doesn’t offer completely enclosed dining, they have two booths that seat 8-10 and function like a private space. These tables are available to rent Sunday through Thursdays. Kingfisher’s creative “ground-to-glass” approach to cocktails means thoughtfully crafted drinks that feature local and seasonal ingredients, from peaches to black radishes.

Stir’s Sleek Garage Door Wall

Located in North Hills, Stir’s private dining space has maximum seating of 30 guests. If the weather is nice they can open the garage door to the patio and accommodate an additional 20 guests. Stir is known for its oyster bar, southern menu, and artisanal ice and specialty cocktails!

Coquette for an elegantly French party

Not far from Stir is Coquette, a longstanding French restaurant. The private dining room in the back can seat 60 comfortably and has drop-down screens for multi-media presentations. The open dining room is also available to rent and seats 100. Their menu features French classics like French onion soup and croque madams.

Check out the tasting area (separate from the llama farm) and food trucks for your food and wine fixes. There are options for white, red, and hybrid wines. You can even bring your dog here!

This stunning location spans 45 acres and features a cute house/tasting room run by a husband and wife team. You can also try their yummy cheese, crackers, and chocolates, along with the wines. My absolute favorite wine here is Coda. Itâ€s a sweet wine made with Traminette (a white grape hybrid), Asian pear, apple, and spiced honey.

Talk about cute! This place has one of the best outdoor seating areas, including a tire swing. It’s right near a lake where they often have live music. There’s even a super cute barn that you can rent out for events.

Stay with the theme of this vineyard by trying its Rosé named Tire Swing. It’s a drier but delicious wine. They also have delicious cabernet sauvignon and sauvignon blanc options.

This is a place that has it all! There’s a restaurant, tasting room, pavilion, and patio seating available here. Oh yeah, and eight wineries to check out. Enjoy gorgeous views of Pilot Mountain and Cox Lake while you explore and taste their estate-grown wines.

Their Pilot Fog which is aged in an American Oak barrel is a must-try. They also boast excellent white wine and rosé offerings.

There are also super fun test-tube flights that you can drink while visiting the farm. Hang out and enjoy the live music, stop by for yoga, or head to their Flat Rock Tasting Room for Sunday Brunch with mimosas.

Most importantly, try the cabernet franc – it’s one of the best wines here.

Head to this spot in Yadkin Valley for gorgeous views and wine. This vineyard, featured in Southern Living Magazine, is noted as the best in the area. Grab yourself a bottle of Vino Limone – a yummy dessert wine like limoncello. There’s a quaint little creek you can walk to behind their tasting room!

Check back in on Sundays for fresh-made pizza with toppings of your choice. You can even spend a night or a few nights here by renting a cabin right on the vineyard.

Don’t skip the jam bar at Biscuit Head

If you’re not a fan of biscuits, what are you doing in North Carolina? Biscuit Head is a must-visit for all biscuit lovers in Asheville. Their menu can be a bit daunting because you’ll want to try everything, but I can personally vouch for the pulled pork biscuit. Don’t skip the famous jam bar. Another notable thing about Biscuit Head is their mission to reduce their carbon footprint on our poor planet. They are one of the first restaurants in Asheville to ban plastic straws!

Sunny Point Cafe is a bright light in the Asheville Community

Sunny Point Cafe slings an impeccable brunch and dinner service, but I’d like to commend their commitment to uplifting their community. Every month they pick a nonprofit to help fundraise for, and they report their totals on their site. Plus, their grits are SO good. They grow a lot of their own produce, living the spade-to-spoon way of life.

A visit to Asheville isn’t whole without Hole

HOLE doughnuts come highly recommended by both locals and frequent visitors. I was charmed by the darling cottage, with a low-level bar, giving those who sit there front row seats to the donuts being made to order. The misshapen shapes of these crispy on the outside, and soft and chewy on the inside donuts made me so happy.

You don’t see a lot of Asian cuisine around Asheville, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a delicious bowl of ramen in the heart of downtown. I also quite loved the takoyaki and gyozas! I wouldn’t order the fried tofu again because they were a bit dry.

I was telling the Taco Billy staff member manning the counter that Taco Billy reminds me of Austin’s Torchy’s Tacos. She then told me that one of the owners of Taco Billy is from Austin! This detail warmed my Texan heart. My favorite breakfast taco by Taco Billy is Mama’s Favorite, which has sausage, eggs, spinach, sweet potato, and goat cheese on a plantain tortilla.

Chai Pani lives up to the hype

Let me just say, I’m always so happy AND sad when I’m in Asheville. There’s never enough time. In my efforts to experience more, there’s hardly any time to revisit places I absolutely adore. Chai Pani is one of those places! With four-time James Beard-nominated Chef Meherwan Irani at the reins, you’re in for a flavorful experience. What I wouldn’t give to be eating the Crispy Masala Fish Roll right now! Treat yourself to puri (center in the photo) as a fun and light appetizer while you wait for entrees. I’m definitely prioritizing Chai Pani during my next visit. It’s been too long.

Mela Indian Restaurant has been serving downtown Asheville for over ten years

If Chai Pani is overbooked and you want another Indian option, Mela Indian Restaurant fed us Christmas Eve dinner one year and it made all of us quite happy, omnivores and herbivores alike. I vividly remember the rack of lamb was so perfectly seasoned and tender. The space is beautifully furnished with a relaxed vibe.

Also in the River Arts District is Summit, a coffee shop. Grab yourself a cup-to-go and walk around the murals. Or if you’re like me and are always on the lookout for remote offices, this is a great spot to work from! They also have a location downtown!

Foothills Meats has been supplying locals “honest meats” since 2002

Foothills Meats, a whole-animal butcher shop located next door to their butcher bar-restaurant in Black Mountain, so graciously took some time to chat about farm-to-butcher-to-table and demo butchery of a whole hog. I learned they plan out their production and processing three months ahead of schedule to help with their effort to utilize every part of the animal to dramatically reduce food waste. They even smoke the pork skin and tail to make dog treats and supply the tallow to a local business to repurpose into artisanal soaps. Talk about eliminating food waste! The attached restaurant to the butcher shop in Black Mountain serves a robust menu made with their meat and other locally sourced ingredients. The brisket poutine, butcher board, chicken wings, and Reuben sandwiches were all so flavorful. There’s just something sacred about truly knowing where your food comes.

After lunch at Foothills Meats, pop over to Dripolator for an afternoon pick-me-up

Just around the corner from Foothills Meats in Black Mountain is Dripolator Coffeehouse. Grab a latte here and take a load off or sip it while you explore the neighboring shops. They got me with their seasonal Cheesecake Latte.

Early Girl Eatery could convert me to a part-time vegetarian

I often poll my audience on Instagram before my trips to Asheville to crowdsource some places to check out. Early Girl Eatery is often suggested to me for breakfast. I ordered Early Girl Eatery’s Veggie Bowl, a bowl loaded with brown rice, eggs, black beans, sweet potatoes, spinach, and avocado as an act of penance for all the french fries I had for dinner the night before. It was so good I can see myself ordering them again during my next visit! I also quite enjoyed the chorizo sweet potato hash. My must-order suggestion is their Spinach Potato cake. It’s vegan AND .

Sovereign Remedies for elevated bar bites and craft cocktails

During my last visit to Asheville, Emilie from Chestnut Street Inn mentioned that Sovereign Remedies had bone marrow tater tots, and the first thing I did was immediately walk over to experience these tots. The tater tots are stuffed on the inside with bone marrow which melts as the tots fry. This is easily the prettiest and most creative tater tots I’ve had. And you should know, I’m tot obsessed. If you’re not into either tots or bone marrow, know that Sovereign Remedies has earned a reputation for superior craft cocktails and an exceptional food menu. I can’t wait to work my way through their menu during future visits to Asheville.

And while we’re talking cocktails, Cultivated Cocktails Distillery would also be a solid date night stop. An award-winning local distillery located in the heart of Asheville, Cultivated Cocktails Distillery has a tasting room where you can sample their craft distilled spirits for free and learn more about their family business. The tasting room also has a cocktail menu you can order from. The current holiday special cocktail features my favorite of their spirits, their coffee liqueur.

Corner Kitchen is a cornerstone in the Asheville restaurant scene

The Corner Kitchen is in a historic house in Biltmore Village, built 125 years ago. One of the owners of Corner Kitchen, Kevin Westmoreland is a native of Asheville. His childhood phone number is the restaurant’s phone number today! I had a wonderful time exploring the menu here. Who knew miso and charred carrot can be a winning flavor profile for broth? Corner Kitchen knew. My absolute favorite bite though was the bread pudding. Its texture was so fluffy; it could be the lovechild of bread pudding and flan.

Try dining on a Wednesday if you can. Every Wednesday, Corner Kitchen will donate a portion of their proceeds to local nonprofits.

Casual Fine Dining at Chestnut

Chestnut is the sister restaurant to Corner Kitchen, located in the heart of Asheville’s downtown. I always mentally bookmark restaurants where the adventurous eaters can break bread with the nonadventurous eaters. Chestnut is one of those restaurants, offering classics that satisfy the general palate with a touch of innovative excitement. I enjoyed a Koren Fried Chicken sandwich pictured above.

Just like its sister restaurant, Chestnut will donate a portion of its Wednesday proceeds to local nonprofits.

Enjoy the cozy fireplaces both indoors and outdoors at Omni Park Grove Inn

Even if you’re not staying at the Omni Grove Park Inn, definitely put their property on your Asheville bucket list. The mountain view from their multilevel patio deck is just breathtaking. If you go in the winter, you’ll catch their annual gingerbread house contest and fancy hot chocolate. The hot chocolate is pricey, but you get to keep the mug!

Anytime you can order coffee from a double-decker bus, I say you order that coffee and hang out! Not pictured is the chandelier. I found the perfect Wednesday night activity for you in Chapel Hill!  From now through  October 23, 2024 La Vita Dolce in Southern Village in Chapel Hill is hosting Wine Down Wednesdays from 5 pm to 8 pm with live music that starts at 6p on the patio (weather permitting). They don’t take reservations and fill up with their patio tables, but if you can’t arrive by 5:30, I’ve seen people bring their chairs.  

The patio is both kid-friendly and dog-friendly, so bring your whole crew! You can get small plates, gelato, sorbet, wine by the glass, and bottles from La Vita Dolce. The bottles are half off during Wine Down Wednesdays.  And new this year, you can also order select items from a nearby restaurant, Market and Moss, for delivery. That lamb flatbread my friend and I ordered was SO good along with the beet salad. 

I went last Wednesday, and the lovely weather, delicious food, chilled bottle of rosé, live music, and good company with puppy and people-watching had me downright euphoric.

This gorgeous restaurant opened in February 2024 and Raleigh is all the better for it! Tamasha offers a modern take on Indian cuisine in a gorgeous fine-dining atmosphere. The interior glimmers and they have a swanky private dining room available to book. My favorite bites from my last visit were the crispy okra & tuk aloo chaat, the four cheese truffle kulcha, the red snapper curry, and the North Meets South dessert.

Rosewater Kitchen + Bar

Rosewater was the first restaurant in the Giorgios Group in Raleigh that is located in North Hills. Just like all the other Giorgio restaurants, Rosewater has a gorgeous design. The greenery both outside and inside makes this New American restaurant feel like a garden oasis. They serve brunch and dinner.

Las Ramblas

Another Giorgio restaurant for people looking for tapas and Spanish cuisine, Las Ramblas is named for the famous street in Barcelona. Grab a date or a group of friends and share some croquettes, pan con tomate, and patatas bravas! One of my favorite things about food is how it can transports you to a different place or time in your life. These tapas reminded me my first international trip together with Sugarface.

Giorgio Pizza Bar

And another Giorgio restaurant in North Hills! You’ll find Italian appetizers, pizzas, pastas, and more on their menu. Sugarface and I were especially obsessed with the Asian Pear and Gorgonzola cheese pizza.

Classic French Cuisine at Coquette

A longstanding establishment in North Hills, Coquette is a Raleigh classic. They are open all day for lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner. I love coming here for their French onion soup, the croissant burger, and the most amazing truffle fries. (They were also mentioned in my extensive brunch guide to the Triangle.)

Vivace for Italian Feasts

Another Italian option in North Hills for you is Vivace. I love that they serve their breadbasket with hummus, such a unique experience! I could make an entire meal of just their bread (a la bruschetta and breadbasket and hummus). I’m glad I didn’t because I also enjoyed their seasonal salads and squid ink risotto. I am drooling just thinking about the risotto.

Happy + Hale for healthy and delicious eats and smoothies

Happy + Hale has a very health-conscious menu that always makes me feel proud of myself for incorporating self-care into my diet. Their breakfast burrito was so surprisingly flavorful. They make my favorite avocado toast in town (pro tip: add a fried egg). Your body will thank you for the time you spend at Happy + Hale.

Stir opened with a big bang this summer! Such a great place to slurp oysters and enjoy their specialty cocktails. When you go, make the wonderstruck kid in you happy and request an ice demo.

I didn’t want to believe it but I’ve tried both the rolls and burgers here and they are delicious! They have bento boxes with burger sliders and rolls for you if you cannot decide between sushi or burgers. Pictured above are the truffle cheeseburger and a jalapeno and cream cheeseburger.

The dim sum scene in the Triangle is pretty meager. My long-standing favorite is East Coast Asian Bistro, but coming from living in or close to Houston with a thriving Chinatown abundant with dim sum restaurants, even East Coast Asian Bistro is “very good for NC.” An Instagram follower who felt the same about the lack of substantial choices in the Triangle of North Carolina put me onto Shanghai Alley in Cary, North Carolina. They have the classic cart experience I miss in the Triangle !

Shanghai Alley didn’t quite top my favorite spot judging only from my first visit. Their sesame balls had dry paste filling and some of their dishes like the chicken feet and turnip cake fell flat for me. But still by Triangle standards, this place is a treasure. It’s the only place with carts right now and I feel protective of the very few dim sum contenders we have locally.

They have adorable durian swan pastries I was so tempted to order but my dining mates were not interested in durian. I enjoyed their shrimp rice noodle rolls and their savory mochi dumplings! You’d have to ask for what appears to be house-made chili paste; it’s soo good.

I’m happy Shanghai Alley is here, and I’ll be rooting for them! Their service was great and they have the cutest interior. They have great reviews for dinner and I will return.

Myrtle Beach is everything you want in a vacation destination, with white sandy beaches, gorgeous water, and incredible seafood. It’s chock full of fun attractions like the Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Myrtle Beach State Park, and it’s nearby Huntington Beach State Park.

I recently visited this stunning location for the first time during the off-season (no battling crowds, amazing!) and had the best time. Plus, I got to binge a few of my favorite podcasts on the way there for a win-win situation. Here are the top eight things to do in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to fully enjoy the area.

Twelve 33 Distillery

This distillery is situated in Little River, slightly north of Myrtle Beach. This distillery is run by a husband-and-wife team who wanted to create craft beer that was anything but ordinary. You can tour the distillery to learn about how these fun craft beers are created and end with a tasty flight like we did.

As you’re drinking each flight, the “spirit guides” will tell you flavor notes to look out for and how each is made. Afterward, I looked around the speakeasy, which was the cherry on top. Both flight tastings and VIP tours are available at Twelve 33 Distillery, with the VIP tours including entry to the hidden speakeasy.

Don’t forget to grab the password before heading to the speakeasy. Here’s a hint: Twelve 33 Distillery posts it on their Twitter every few days or so.

Gay Dolphin Gift Cove

Next on the list was shopping at Gay Dolphin Gifts. This iconic shop is a must-see when visiting Myrtle Beach. It’s massive (about 26,000 square feet)!

Can you believe this famous gift shop was once a much smaller shop combined with an amusement park in the back?! 72 years later, this shop is still a top spot for visitors to explore. You’ll find fun and funky items here like Bob Ross socks and mermaid coasters.

Creating Airbrushed T-Shirts

What else do you do in Myrtle Beach but get custom airbrushed t-shirts? This little shop was right next to the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove and gave us a fun way to remember the trip.

Riding the SkyWheel

The SkyWheel is a stunning giant Ferris wheel that is found on the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk and is one of the best Myrtle Beach attractions. This Ferris wheel was originally the only attraction, but additional activities like a ropes course and mini golf courses were added to the area as it became more popular.

Riding the SkyWheel is a great way to see the incredible views, especially from the top of the wheel. Each gondola is enclosed, so no matter when you visit, you’ll be able to enjoy a temperature-controlled ride with views.

Sunset Watching

I can tell you with absolute certainty that we tried to see as many of Myrtle Beach’s sunsets as possible. There’s nothing better than watching the beautiful pink and purple colors over the Atlantic Ocean in the evenings. Whether you watch them from inside or outside, you’re in for a real treat.

Ripleyâ€s Aquarium Myrtle Beach

If you’ve never walked through the shark tunnel at Ripley’s Aquarium, it’s an absolute must! Itâ€s a great way to peer into the underwater life of sharks, jellyfish, and horseshoe crabs – without actually getting into the water.

This spot in North Myrtle Beach also features fun interactive exhibits, so you can get up close and personal with the sea critters if you wish. I saw a potbellied seahorse for the first time. So cute.

This is the perfect spot for families visiting Myrtle Beach.

Brookgreen Gardens

The Brookgreen Gardens are stunning! This botanical garden has so much to do that you can spend an entire day here. Be the main character by strolling through the various gardens.

There’s even a butterfly garden here and a sculpture garden. Tripadvisor has even named this location one of the Top 10 Gardens in the US. Spend time in the wildlife preserve as a perfect ending to your trip to the gardens.

RipTydz

You can’t head to Myrtle Beach without experiencing the fresh seafood here! RipTydz is right near the SkyWheel, making an excellent stop for lunch or dinner after you ride the attraction.

I filled up on steamed seafood here, but they have plenty of American-style food that you can fill up on. Plus, the views while you eat of the beach are unbeatable!

I’m excited to share my recent staycation experience at the fabulous 21c Museum Hotel in Durham, North Carolina! Prepare yourselves for a journey of comfort, art, and delectable cuisine that will leave you wanting more. You can see the short-form vlog about this stay here on my Instagram.

Comfort with a View:

Upon entering my room at 21c, I was immediately struck by the perfect blend of comfort and sleek style. I had a staycation with my girlfriend, Jorden so I requested a double queen room. The plush bedding invited me to sink into relaxation, and the large windows offered a gorgeous view of Durham. I couldn’t help but enjoy the sunset and admire the beauty of Durham’s downtown before heading downstairs for dinner.

But the real treat was the bathroom! I love when hotels have spacious tubs! Our room’s tub was surrounded by sleek and modern design, made for the ideal spot to unwind.

Artful Touches Everywhere

One thing that sets 21c apart is the seamless integration of art into every corner of the hotel. From the lobby to the hallways and even in the rooms, you’re surrounded by incredible contemporary art. I discovered a charming surprise in the drawers—a art book that was fun to flip through while relaxing in our room.

Culinary Delights at The Counting House

My staycation reached new heights when I indulged in a media-tasting 5-course meal at The Counting House, led by the brilliant Chef Stephanie. Her culinary creations, heavily inspired by the flavors of NOLA, transported my taste buds to nostalgic memories of Southern US travels. I’m still thinking of her caviar roll and the chocolate and passionfruit sorbet.

Exploring Durham’s Hidden Gem

After a satisfying meal, our group ventured into one of Durham’s best-kept secrets—the art gallery and bank vault downstairs. The gallery featured thought-provoking exhibits that they carefully curated and rotated, while the bank vault, repurposed into a contemporary art space, was a unique and immersive experience. One of my favorite spots to take out-of-towners! Go ahead and walk through the tiny hallway next to the bank vault!

Brunching with the Pink Penguin

As my staycation came to an end, I couldn’t resist one last treat—brunch at The Counting House with the famous pink penguin. Yes, you heard that right! The whimsical and charming pink penguin mascot joined me for a delightful brunch, making for an unforgettable ending to my staycation.

Suffice it to say, 21c Museum Hotel in Durham surpassed all expectations. From the luxurious comfort of the rooms and the immersive art experiences to the culinary delights at The Counting House, every moment was a celebration of the finer things in life. If you’re looking for a staycation that combines art, luxury, and delicious food, 21c in Durham should be at the top of your list!

2023 has been an exceptional year for the Triangle’s dining scene, with a plethora of new restaurants that have taken the culinary experience to new heights. It was a tough task to narrow down the top 10, but after much savoring and deliberation, I present to you my selection of the best 2023 restaurant openings in the Triangle.

1. East End Bistrot – Raleigh

Prepare yourself for a fine dining experience like no other at East End Bistrot. Located in the heart of Raleigh, this elegant establishment offers a culinary journey that is worth every penny for a splurge. From the meticulously crafted dishes to the impeccable service, East End Bistrot delivers a truly unforgettable dining experience.

For me to make it for a weeknight dinner from my little apartment in Carrboro, I’d have to sit in traffic for about 1.5 hours one way to get there. Let me tell you, I did it twice and I would do it many more times because dinner here is JUST THAT GOOD. The food? 10/10. The service? 10/10. The ambiance? You guessed it, 10/10. I’ve been following Chef Will around the Triangle for 5ish years now. He’s quite talented.

We loved everything we ordered on our most recent visit. The crab soufflè with lobster butter was perfection. The Hawaiian Tombo Ahi tickled a part of my brain that hadn’t been tickled before (in a good way). As someone who misses guava and cheese pastries from Miami year-round, the guava cheesecake soothed my achy heart. Craving an amazing steak? Also amazing here.

2. Cheeni – Durham

I have been a friend, follower, and fan of Preeti Waas since I first met her in 2018. She hired me to grab photos of her cookies and jams. I’ve since loved watching her grow and spread love through her food through the years! From cookies and jams in farmers’ markets to hosting cooking classes in 2019, to opening brick and mortars in Raleigh, to a James Beard nomination. And now, as of November 2023, a brick-and-mortar in Durham!

Indulge in the vibrant flavors of Indian cuisine at Cheeni, the new gem in Durham’s dining scene. With a menu inspired by the diverse culinary traditions of India, Cheeni takes you on a flavorful adventure. From aromatic curries to tantalizing street food, every bite at Cheeni is a celebration of authentic Indian flavors. I especially loved the fish curry during my last visit.

3. Pho Thien Phat – Cary

Craving a delightful bowl of pho? Look no further than Pho Thien Phat in Cary. This cozy spot is a haven for pho enthusiasts, serving up steaming bowls of rich and aromatic Vietnamese noodle soup. With a menu featuring other Vietnamese classics as well, Pho Thien Phat is a must-visit for lovers of Southeast Asian cuisine.

4. Zweli’s Ekhaya – Durham

Sugarface and I checked out Zweli’s Ekhaya in Durham twice in one week! Chef Zweli (of Zweli’s Kitchen) opened an upscale elevated Southern African concept in Downtown Durham. We had dinner and then a few days later we returned for brunch.

Dishes we loved which was basically everything we tried: Dovi cauliflower, Cassava Fries with Jollof aioli, butternut squash croquettes, seafood curry (it was halibut when we went and gosh was it good), and for brunch, the Shakshuka and Chicken Kabobs.

We also had Bota Brulee twice. It’s a classic African porridge with bruleed top. I wish I could have been transported to my couch with a blanket while eating that warm, gooey hug in a mug.

5. Bombolo – Chapel Hill

This tiny but mighty sibling-owned Chapel Hill restaurant opened in February 2023, and the Chapel Hill dining scene has been even more blessed ever since. This restaurant has refused to be neatly categorized by any one and I love that. I’ve had an outstanding NOLA barbecue shrimp, lobster pot, fried chicken, Khao Sois, and pasta here. See what I mean about not fitting in a box? Truly, one of my favorite restaurants in Chapel Hill. (As a food blogger who lives in Carrboro and drives often for food around the Triangle, I’m so grateful that Bombolo is in Chapel Hill.)

6. Little Bull – Durham

Little Bull, owned by Mexican-American and Mexican Immigrants, with Executive Chef Oscar (of Cortez Seafood Raleigh fame), has been making waves since its opening, even catching the attention of the New York Times in their “36 Hours in Durham” feature. Chef Oscar Diaz’s mission with Little Bull is to offer nostalgic, sincere, comfort food inspired by “the palates of first-generation immigrant kids.” As a first-gen Asian kid myself, I love this. I love the ceviche here, the birria dumplings, the bone marrow, and the puri puri chicken! Here’s my Instagram Reel from their opening.

7. Saap – Cary

Get ready to explore the flavors of Laos at Saap. This charming restaurant offers a menu filled with traditional Laotian dishes crafted with love and attention to detail by famed Chef Lon (previously of Bida Manda). Saap opened in November around the same time as their neighboring Cary Park reopened! Making dinner at Saap after or before a stroll through the new Cary Park the perfect date itinerary.

We ordered: Nam Khao (crispy coconut rice lettuce wraps), papaya salad, chicken curry, Pad Lao, and morning glory. I’d happily order all of that again. (I asked for a little chili oil for the Pad Lao because I like heat.) I grew up eating a lot of water spinach/morning glory and this is the second time I’ve ever been able to order it from a restaurant!

8. Q Noodle – Cary

The best soup dumplings in the Triangle? I found them here at Q Noodles in Cary. You can get an assortment of these soup dumplings, but my favorite is the peppercorn soup dumplings! Also, loved their minced pork hot and sour noodle soup and their Yibin spicy dry noodle with minced pork. I bet you, you’ll have no problem finding a handful of dishes to love.

9. Bonjour Banh Mi – Morrisville

I’m so glad  Bonjour Banh Mi is here for when I’m feeling homesick for Vietnam . I’ve been searching for a banh mi dac biet (traditional banh mi with Vietnamese cold cuts and a heaping slather of pâté and house-made mayonnaise) all around the Triangle, and Bonjour Banh Mi and answered my plea . I loved meeting the owner, Tri, a Vietnamese immigrant who wants to introduce more Vietnamese food outside of banh mi and pho to the Triangle. 10. Seraphine – Durham

Last, but certainly not least, Seraphine in Durham is a culinary haven for those seeking refined flavors and a sophisticated dining experience with New Orleans influence. As a Texan girl who spent a lot of time in Louisiana before moving to North Carolina, I’m so happy! My siblings-in-law all live in NOLA, so Seraphine is automatically a place of comfort for me. I’ve never seen boudin offered in North Carolina before and after chatting with a lot of NC locals, I’m learning that a lot of people have never had boudin here! My dining partners at Seraphine needed an introduction. (Boudin is made from a blend of ground meat cooked down with onions, peppers, seasonings, and cooked rice. This completely cooked mixture is then stuffed into a casing like a sausage.) If that doesn’t sound like your jam, Seraphine also has amazing pork chops, oysters, gnocchi, and beignets! One of my followers on Instagram tipped me off on this beautiful afternoon tea service in the gorgeous White House on Washington in Mebane, North Carolina.

The house that is now The White House on Washington was originally built in the 1800s. It is a beautiful woman-owned, artist-owned space, after being fully renovated. It was abandoned and condemned for quite some time. See the photo below to view a side-by-side comparison of the same room.

I loved every detail; you can tell every detail was carefully curated. Down to the collection of teapots, you can choose from! I loved my little house-shaped teapot and spied another patron with a Van Gogh teapot.

I held back so many happy squeals while nibbling on their treats and drinking my gingerbread black tea. They are currently taking reservations for their tea service on their website via OpenTable!

Every savory tea sandwich and dessert was delicious as well as beautiful.

As of December 2023, you can treat yourself to an elegant tea service for an affordable $35 per person. A dreamy experience without breaking the bank. You can see my Instagram Reel featuring the White House on Washington here.
