Synopsis

The story begins from the year that Qi Wei Yi is 12 years old. Because he was the champion from a swimming competition, it brought about someone’s jealously and Wei Yi’s foot was broken due to this. He was hospitalized in a small hospital in a village where he first met Shen Shen. Shen Shen’s neighbor, Zuo Jun, dragged her along to skip classes and while they were roaming about, they got into a car accident. Unfortunately, this car accident caused Shen Shen to lose her ability to speak. Tragically, Shen Shen’s mother also died from a car crash at this time. Zuo Jun was feeling extremely guilty and swore that he will take care of Shen Shen for the rest of her life.

After finding out the terrible news of her mother’s death, Shen Shen hides herself in an air raid shelter and cries bitterly. Zuo Jun turns the hospital inside out like a mad man trying to find her but wasn’t able to. However this accident allowed Wei Yi and Shen Shen to meet. A secret place that belongs to the two of them. Henceforth, these two people’s destiny is changed.

The two of them made a promise to go and take a look at the secret future on the Christmas day when they are both 25 years old (the year 2006). When they are both 25 years old, a new development begins with these two people’s story…

My favourite vegetable... or should I call it my favourite fruit??? Technically, tomato is botanically a fruit. However, the tomato is nutritionally categorized as a vegetable. Since "vegetable" is not a botanical term, there is no contradiction in a plant part being a fruit botanically while still being considered a vegetable.

The tomato is grown worldwide for its edible fruits, with thousands of cultivars. Cultivated tomatoes vary in size from cheery tomatoes to beefsteak tomatoes.

Tomatoes are eaten freely throughout the world. and their consumption is believed to benefit the heart among other things. Lycopene, one of nature's most powerful antioxidants, is present in tomatoes, and especially when tomatoes are cooked, has been found beneficial in preventing prostate cancer.

Tomatoes are used extensively in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines, especially Italian. It has an acidic property that is used to bring out other flavors.

Benefits and Uses of Tomatoes

Medical:

1. Tomato juice keeps the blood stream alkaline and thus maintain a high resistance to disease. 2. It is very rich in iron and potash salts.

3. Half-ripe tomatoes offer an excellent remedy in all sorts of liver troubles.

4. Tomatoes stimulate torpid liver and are very good for dyspepsia, diarrhoea and dysentery.

Others:

1. Deodorize plastic containers
To remove foul odors from a plastic container, pour a little tomato juice onto a sponge and wipe it around the inside of the container. Then wash the container and lid in warm, soapy water, dry well, and store them separated in the freezer for a couple of days.

2. Remove skunk stink from dog
If your dog gets skunked, douse the affected area thoroughly with undiluted tomato juice. Make sure to sponge some of the juice over the pet's face, too, avoiding its eyes. Wait a few minutes for the acids from the tomatoes to neutralize the skunk smell and then give the dog a shampoo or scrub with soap and water. Repeat as necessary over several days until the smell is completely gone.

3. Rid fridge of odors
Get rid of spoiled-food smells in your refrigerator and freezer with the help of some tomato juice. After disposing of the bad food that caused the smell, thoroughly wipe the insides of the fridge and freezer with a sponge or washcloth doused in undiluted tomato juice. Rinse with warm, soapy water and wipe dry. If traces of the smell remain, repeat the procedure or substitute vinegar for the tomato juice.

4. Restore blond hair color
If you're a blonde who has ever gone swimming in a chlorine-treated pool, it can sometimes give your hair an unappealing green tint. To restore the blond color to your hair, saturate it with undiluted tomato juice, cover it with a shower cap, and wait 10-15 minutes. Then rinse thoroughly, shampoo, and soon you'll be ready to have more fun.

5. Relieve a sore throat
For temporary relief of sore throat symptoms, gargle with a mixture of 1/2 cup tomato juice and 1/2 cup hot water, plus about 10 drops hot pepper sauce.

Synopsis

Step One

Soak your feet in warm water for about 10 minutes. Add two or three drops of lavender oil for relaxing effect.

Step Two

Gently exfoliate hard skin using a pedicure file while soaking. Dry the feet thoroughly particularly between the toes to avoid fungus infection.

Step Three

Leaving less than 1/8 inch long white tip, trim toenails straight across to avoid ingrown nails. Always use a pair of high quality toenail clippers that can cut through in a single stroke. Using an emery board, nail file/shaper, file in one direction to keep nails from chipping/splitting.

Step Four

Gently sand down any ridges on your nails in one direction with a nail buffer. It exfoliates the nails, which helps varnish stay on longer and increases blood flow to toes, stimulating healthy nail growth.

Step Five

Apply cuticle remover to gently soften and lift cuticles. Gently push back excess cuticles using a cuticle stick wrapped in cotton wool. Apply cuticle oil and massage over the cuticles and nails.

Bak Kut Teh is a Chinese soup popular in Malaysia and Singapore. The name literally ranslates as "Pork Bone Tea". It consists of meaty pork ribs in a succulent broth consisting of herbs and spices boiled together.

It is usually eaten with rice and often served with you tiao (strips of fried dough) for dipping in to thsoup. Dark soy sauce is preferred as a condiment with which chopped chilli padi and minced garlic is taken together.

Bak Kut Teh improves blood circulation and reviltalize the body. It retains your youthfulness, strengthens your body and is good for the liver. It is suitable for all ages.

Don't ask me how to prepare the soup from scratch. I usually purchase a soup mix. After tasting many types of soup mixes, Seah's Spices is still the best option.

Preparation

1 packet of spices

1 kg of port ribs (cooked for 5 minutes in boiling water and drained

8 pieces of small garlic (cleaned with skin intact)

6 bowls of water (1500 ml)

8-10 pieces of dried Chinese mushrooms (soaked in water with stems removed)

Direction

1. Boil 1500 ml water

2. Place packet of spices and pre-prepared pork ribs in boiling water

3. Cook for 30 mins using low fire

4. Add garlic and Chinese mushrooms and continue to cook for another 15 mins. Serve hot.

Guatemala is dubbed as the “Land of the Eternal Spring” mainly because of the great weather all year round. The country incorporates some of the most spectacular Mayan archaeological sites. Guatemala has around 21 different ethnic groups, speaking some 23 languages.

Personally, I feel that travel in Guatemala is not very safe because there is a relatively high level of violent crimes committed aginst foreigners. Intercity travel after sunset should be avoided and travellers should exervise extra caution on the roads in rural areas.

Nevertheless, nature has formed some astonishing sights, such as volcano peaks, subtropical forests and acient, sulphurous lakes.

I must admit that I'm really not a huge fan of local food. In addition, the Chinese restaurant does not serve authentic Chinese cuisine. However, I found a Korean restaurant that serves the best Bulgogi. Its really tasty and I call it the "Mountain Bulgogi".

Volcan Pacaya

Volcan Pacaya is located just south of Guatemala City in Amatitlan. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Central America and most frequently climbed volcano in Guatemala. I took a horse ride halfway up the volcano and I thought I lost my legs when I tried to climb up to the crater to see the lava.

Puerto de San Jose

Puerto de San Jose is situated along the Pacific ocean in the south-central of Guatemala. I visited this area 4 times. Mostly to eat sashimi. There are many activities one can engage in such as fishing, surfing, etc.

Antigua

Antigua may be the most outstanding and best preserved colonial city in Spanish America. Thousands of tourists from around the world flock to Antigua every year to enjoy its natural beauty and historic monuments. It is definitely a city of charm and color.

Antigua is situated 1,500 meters above sea level, in an earthquake prone region and is overlooked by the spectacular Aqua Volcano. The city encompasses the required services from hotels to cafes to banks, etc.

Lake Atitlan

Lake Atitlan is famous for its natural beauty and colourful Mayan villages. It is about two and a half hour drive from Guatemala City. I took a boat ride to visit the nearby villages, which gave me an opportunity to appreciate the lake.

It’s a pity I still did not have the chance to visit Tikal, the largest of the ancient ruined cities of the Maya civilisation as it calls for a plane ride and I do not have a partner to accompany me on the trip.

Beauty products for blackhead removal are constantly introduced in the market. Are they really effective? Will regular home remedies for blackheads keep most skin problems at bay?

Here are some effective home remedies for removing blackheads:

1. Use an oatmeal or almond mask to clean your face thoroughly. Mix either oatmeal or almond powder with enough rose water to make a soft paste. Rub it on your skin, whilst paying special attention to the problem areas. Leave it to dry for about 15 minutes and then rinse off with cold water.

2. Apply undiluted lemon juice two to three times a day on the affected areas.

3. Mix half a tablespoon of boric powder with one and a half cut of hot water. Saturate a face napkin in this solution and press onto the skin. Extract blackheads carefully with a blackhead remover and sterilized cotton wool.

4. Warm a little honey and apply on the trouble spots. Wash off after 10-15 minutes.

5. Combine 1/4 cup of boiling water with one teaspoon of Epsom salt and three drops of iodine. Let mixture cool until its comfortable to the touch. Saturate a cotton ball with this mixture and dab on the troubled spots. This will allow them to loosen so they can be easily squeezed.

Nakji Bokum is a very spicy octopus dish enjoyed by many Koreans. Octopus tentacles are cut into bite-sized pieces then pan stir-fried with spicy gojujang paste along with chili powder, sesame oil, red or green chili peppers, green onions, carrots and onions. Different variation of this dish do exist as the octopus can be substituted with squid for less chewy texture and taste. Non-Koreans may find this dish too spicy even diluted with rice that accompanies this dish.

Ingredients

300g octopus

300g dried wheat noodles (somyeon)

1.5 tbsp oil

10 fresh or canned button mushrooms, halved

1 green onion , cut into short lengths

1 red chili pepper, deseeded and cut into thin strips

1 onion, thinly sliced

Sauce

2 tbsp gojujang

2 tbsp Korean chili powder

1 tbsp crushed garlic paste

1 tbsp minced green onion

2 tsp soy sauce

1 tsp sugar

1/2 tsp salt, or to taste

1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

2 tbsp sesame oil

2 tsp sesame paste

Directions

1. Clean the octopus by removing the eyes, mouth area, viscera and ink sac. Rinse the octopus well, rub thoroughly with salt, then rinse again. Bring a large saucepan of water to a boil, immerse the octopus in the boiling water and simmer until it begins to curl, about 3 minutes. Remove from the heat and drain well. Slice the body and tentacles into 1x2.5 inch strips. Set aside.

2. Bring a saucepan of water to a boil and blanch the noodles, stirring to prevent the noodles from sticking together, until soft, 3-5 minutes. Remove from the heat, rinse in cold water and drain well. Divide the noodles equally among 4 serving platters.

3. Combine the sauce ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Set aside.

4. Heat the oil in a wok over high heat and stir-fry the vegetables for about 1 minute. Add the sauce, mix well and bring to a boil. Add the octopus and stir-fry for 1-2 minutes. Remove from the heat and spread equally over the noodles. Serve immediately.

Synopsis
