Yes, we sneaked out of town early last weekend and took a slow drive to the boonies for breakfast. The restaurant was packed like sardines as we’d expected. We waited a full half-hour, maybe more, to finally grab a table.

You know how standing beside a table waiting for its occupants to leave only inspires them to sit around even longer to engage in idle chit-chat even when they so obviously had finished their meal.

That’s what I really love about the unselfish nature of some people, their dire pleasure in wasting other people’s time, and their total lack of consideration for others. That said, the dimsum was the best though service was understandably slow.

By the time we were almost done, a man had parked himself beside our table, glaring at us with a seriously authoritative “get lost” look while his son, aged about 8, had hijacked one of our chairs and invited himself to our breakfast.

What a string of pleasant folks to run into on a Sunday morning !!

We’re having a hot, hazy spell here now. Not exactly the perfect weather to be outdoors, if you ask me. But having to entertain relatives from out of town, we had no choice but to plan around the weather as much as we could.

We took the girls shopping, shopping and shopping. At least inside the malls, we didn’t have to be breathe in dusty particles . But frankly there’s only so much shopping you can do before the money runs out.

So we made some sandwiches and lemonade and headed for the pool. Haze and heat aside, the kids had a splashing good time while the adults indulged in lazy conversations about cheap but good places to eat, H1N1, gold investing and how to spend less. At least it was free!

how to fry popcorn chicken

Frying popcorn chicken is quite easy and only takes a few minutes to cook :

Turn on the fire and put in some oil. If you think there’s too much oil, then scoop some out but the best is 1 and a half tablespoon.
Then put in the popcorn chicken.
Leave it to fry for a while.
Turn over the chicken to check if it’s burnt.
Continue to fry until the popcorn chicken is brown and crispy.

Do not mix the uncooked chicken with the cooked ones.

disappearing snacks

Just the other day we were talking about making waffles but with the all the other things we had planned, we listed “waffles” into the unimportant category.

One day, we took out the waffle ingredients but having only 24 hours a day and other things going on, we forgot all about them.

Ooops! Yes, I suppose that going to A&W for a waffle topped with ice-cream and strawberries is faster than making home made ones. But at home it’s healthier because we can control the amount of sugar and other things.

We felt a bit guilty so we decided to make salsa instead. It is, after all, faster and easier to make. Goes great with nachos. Yummy…

fashion show-crazy

Last weekend, we had a blast at Fashion on 1 at 1 Utama. The girls and I are suckers for fashion shows and this is like a once a year/annual event that we can watch for free.

Okay, fine maybe there are many other free fashion shows organized by mall tenants to promote their latest collections throughout the year but sometimes the timing is wrong or the location is too far and we can’t make it there. But this is perfect. The days are freakin’ hot and nothing can beat watching fashion show after fashion show in air-conditioned comfort.

We’ve been having some seriously hot days here, I’m not kidding. Every time I step out into the sun, I can almost feel a seering heat on my arms followed by a stinging feeling as if the sun’s rays are creeping into my skin. Not a nice feeling. I bet if I splashed some water on my arm, the droplets would sizzle and boil too .

I know the weather is warming up in many places right now. Just one word of warning, don’t leave home without your sunblock! That’s all I have to say today .

should I drive out to the boonies?

I really need to buy a new handbag and I hear there’s a warehouse sale going on in the boonies where the organizers can get a huge space at minimum rental.

I’m looking into my crystal ball, looking really hard but I don’t see any shopping on the horizon. Mine’s starting to disintegrate as all good handbags do these days after a few months’ of careful use, not abuse.

What to do now? But who wants to drive out to the boonies on a hot day to a warehouse that’s got no air-conditioning?

Not me!
