As a young woman, Katie has made her way in a male-dominated sport, showing girls of all ages that anything they dream can be possible with hard work and determination. GFC believes in Katie and all girls to achieve their dreams – go, Katie, go!

Katie Sullivan Bio:

“Kalifornia” Katie Sullivan

     My name is Katie
Sullivan. I am 19 years old and currently a full time student majoring in small
business and entrepreneurship. While going to school I am opening a trailer
business called Kalifornia Katie’s Trailer Sales. I am really driven to finish
my degree and to make Kalifornia Katie’s Trailer Sales a successful business,
but the thing I have the most drive and passion for in my life is drag racing.

    I grew up at the
race track, and raced jr. dragsters from the time I was 9 until I was 15. While
racing jr. dragsters I won numerous races, 1 track championship and 1 runner-
up. It has been my dream to race pro stock motorcycle since I was 12 years old.
At the age of 18 I made my dreams reality. I attended Frank Hawley’s school of
drag racing taught by George Bryce 2 days after I turned 18. I competed in my
first national event on a pro stock motorcycle before I was out of high school
in Atlanta, Georgia. I competed aboard Shawn and Blake Gann’s Suzuki. In
Atlanta we were so close to qualifying, but fell just a tiny bit short of
making the field. A couple days after I graduated high school I became the
youngest female to ever qualify for a national event in pro stock motorcycle
and also only the 7th female to ever do so. In addition to
qualifying at the Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, I received my first round win
at a national event and ran my personal best ET and MPH of 7.09 seconds at 189
MPH.

     I made the field
a second time in the 2009 season at my home track in Sonoma, CA. Towards the
end of my 2009 race season, my dad and I purchased our own pro stock motorcycle
operation. We have been working so hard to put together a great team and it
paid off when we went to the National event in Denver this year. We qualified
for our first national event of the 2010 season on our family owned Suzuki. We
have already accomplished so much and I have huge dreams to accomplish so much
more.

     Now that we have
a little experience in the pro stock motorcycle class, I am ready to shoot for
the stars. The team that my dad and I have built has a huge potential. Racing
pro stock motorcycle is my passion and my dream and I am ready to make Kalifornia
Katie Racing a top contender.

Girls For A Change is excited to
announce a new partnership with U by Kotex, a bold new feminine care product
line, to advance the empowerment of women and girls. The alignment of the
girls’ and women’s empowerment mission between Girls For A Change (GFC) and U
by Kotex is exceptionally synergistic. Girls and women across the nation will
see the messages associated with this campaign, which are truly grounded in
“girl power.”

This cause-related campaign is the
culmination of an eye-opening survey conducted online in August 2009 by Harris Interactive® on behalf of U by Kotex among more than 1,600 North American women aged 14-35,
<del cite="mailto:Annie%20Yaniga" datetime="2010-04-14T10:46"> </del>which revealed that 7 in 10 women believe it’s time for society to change how it talks about vaginal health, yet
less than half (45%) feel empowered to make a difference. U by Kotex and Girls For A Change want to change this by empowering young women to take control of their health and bodies, lead social change, and speak out against societal pressures and
censorship.

Empowering girls to believe in
themselves and see themselves as social change agents starts with helping them
to overcome the negative messages about girls that swirl around them
constantly. If a girl does not feel comfortable in her own skin, it is almost
certain she will suffer in all areas of her life. We see this campaign as a
gutsy and bold move to share the message that girls should not feel shame in
being a girl. When a girl feels empowered she is unstoppable and capable of
amazing things!

For every person who joins the
movement by signing the Declaration of Real Talk and/or recording an empowering statement at www.UbyKotex.com, the U by Kotex brand will make a $1 donation[1] to
Girls For A Change.

U by Kotex, in sharing a common mission
with Girls For A Change, is taking the lead in encouraging young women to spark
a new conversation that is long overdue. A pivotal part of the campaign
launches in September 2010 when Girls For A Change will train a 1000 girls
across the US to create change in their communities around women’s health.
These Love Your Body, Change Your World trainings
will be focused on breaking down myths and stereotypes about women’s health and
give girls the skills and tools they need to enact change. Trainings will be
held in Las Vegas, Milwaukee, San Francisco, Dallas, and Baltimore.

Please join Girls For A Change and U By Kotex to empower girls to feel proud of
their bodies and make change in their communities! Sign the Declaration of Real Talk to donate $1 to GFC.
Each year, GFC Girl Action Teams in our sites around the world complete social change projects. Every team of girls is partnered with adult women volunteers, called Girl Action Team Coaches. At GFC, we see parent involvement as a vital part of maintaining a safe and healthy online environment.
