This is the long-awaited and much delayed episode of the Girls Night In podcast which is part two of two where we bring to you a post meet-up discussion. The hosts and the attendees shared their memories of the meet up and a bit of the laughter as well. We have voicemail from some of the folks that couldn’t make it, even one from one of the hosts who was stricken with the plague.

Who died? What’s all this talk about the girls being in bed together? Is there more to that story? Did we have any members of the mafia that attended the meet-up? Perhaps you’ll hear the background behind the “accidental racist” title that one of our hosts garnered. You might even gain some insight on which of us was more directionally challenged. It’s probably just best if you listen in and find out what a real stalker is made of!

I have made the decision and am retiring from Girls Night In. Before you get all upset on me, let me present to you my reasons. I have a lot going on in my life right now: I have my son to care for, school starting back up, my father and my grandmother who are ill and require my help in their care, a career path to pursue, the tornado, the loss and the resulting trauma for me as well as a whole slew of other personal happenings. I need to work on my career and focus more on things with my son first and foremost. I don’t have the time or energy right now to put into the show that which I’ve always put into it (and not make a profit from it). I am taking all of the time as well as the energy that I have invested in GNI and am putting it into the areas of my life which need the attention most. I love the show so very much and hate to have had to make this decision but I have to do what is right for my family and I.

The Podcast
Now it’s time to address the podcast itself.

The four of us started this show, and together the four of us are the Girls Night In. We have to keep that in mind as one of us leaves the show. In doing so, it really is no longer Girls Night In. It is time to retire the show as well, giving the respect the show itself deserves: to leave it having been the show that was Kim, Rachel, Jaime and Maggie.

Consistently represented by a combination of any/many of the four of us is GNI: Unplugged. We’re still discussing the hopeful continuance of this Unplugged show. We’ll keep you posted.

The Girls Night In podcast has had it’s biggest month ever for downloads here in July. So far we’re ahead of our record downloads by 250 and there are still 2 days left to the month. We’re getting right around 1,000 downloads per week now. Our subscriber base fluctuates between 600-700 and we’re gaining between 40-60 new listeners every month. We’ve also been a featured podcast in iTunes since September, 2007.

Thank you for spreading the word about the podcast. Most stalkers tend to keep the objects of their obsession to themselves, but you all rawk! And just for that, I’ve made you a handy-dandy little stalker badge that you can wear as your avatar, internet icon or as a mask on Halloween.

There was a thought I had while listening to the Slate Special on Mamma Mia  which you can find at http://www.slate.com/id/2195527/. Also a podcast which I love to listen to after seeing a movie.

Mamma Mia isn’t just about the family silliness or even two love stories. Its about a mother and daughter. The song, “Slipping Through My Fingers” definitely made me cry. Its also about a woman and her friends.  Both sets of three female friends; the mom with her friends and the daughter with her friends. We see more of the Donna, Rosie and Tonya than of Sophie, Lisa and Ali (I love http://www.imdb.com, I didn’t remember all the names.)

One of the best things about girlfriends is they will call you on your bull****, laugh with, be there when you need them, and so much more.  We all found this out at the GNI meet-up, how even “internet girlfriends” can become “girlfriends” with just one meeting (Sorry Jim and Flick our two guy friends!) There is nothing like having a girlfriend to talk to when you need it.  Donna and Sophie have that in the movie. Who else but two of your oldest girlfriends would sing “Dancing Queen” to you? Only a good girlfriend would help you figure out which one of the three possible fathers is your real one.

So the movie was silly and fun, but it also had a deeper meaning of female friendships and how strong they are.

The co-hosts at GNI have strive to be girlfriends for each other and for our listeners. At least that’s the way I see it.

This is the first part of two of the Girls Night In podcast’s special Meet-Up releases. We reviewed the movie Mamma Mia! Directed by Phyllida Lloyd. With Amanda Seyfried, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep. The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular ’70s group ABBA. Yes, it’s still in the theater, so yes we shook it up a little and did something we wouldn’t normally do. We met everyone in person, we saw a movie that’s in the theater and then reviewed it on the spot without any reflection what-so-ever. We all had a blast meeting one another and reviewing this movie. Did we enjoy the movie as much as we enjoyed each other’s company though? Listen in and find out!

Care Bears for the What If Questions

1. Bedtime Bear is a very sleepy bear. He helps everyone get a good night’s sleep and have sweet dreams. He is blue with a sleeping crescent moon on his tummy.
2. Birthday Bear wants everyone to have happy birthdays and loves birthday parties and games. He is golden yellow and his tummy symbol is a cupcake with a candle.
3. Cheer Bear is a very happy and perky bear, who helps everyone be their happiest and cheer up those who are unhappy. She is pink with a rainbow as her tummy symbol.
4. Friend Bear is a kind and friendly bear who shows what it means to be a good friend. She is orange with two intertwined smiling flowers on her tummy.
5. Funshine Bear loves to play and tell jokes all the time, but sometimes forgets that there are times in life you must be serious. He is yellow with a smiling sun on his tummy. Funshine was originally a female Care Bear until 2002.
6. Good Luck Bear is all about spreading good luck for everyone. He is green and his tummy symbol is a four leaf clover with heart shaped petals.
7. Grumpy Bear shows that while it’s okay to be grumpy sometimes, it is also silly to let grumpiness go too far. Since 2002 he has also been the inventor/mechanic for the rest of the Care Bears. He is blue and his symbol is a dark raincloud with raindrops (some of which are shaped like hearts).
8. Love-A-Lot Bear is a pretty and perky bear who helps spread love and help it along wherever she goes. She is pink and her tummy symbol is two intertwined hearts.
9. Tenderheart Bear helps everyone show and express their feelings and helps his fellow Care Bears be the most caring they can be. In the 1980s movies/cartoons he was the leader of the Care Bears. He is orange (originally brown) with a big red heart on his tummy.
   
10. Wish Bear helps make wishes come true, and although they don’t always come true, making wishes and working hard to help make them come true is still a lot of fun. The Girls Night In podcast has finally hit a milestone. We’re now one year old. Reason number two is that I’ve been sick this week. At the end of last week I started feeling a bit “sinusy”. I have allergies so it didn’t really phase me. Over the weekend though I started getting worse. By Tuesday I was absolutely miserable. I asked my good friend Kim to drive me to a local clinic. You may recall from an earlier episode that I get car sick when other people drive. I had to have been feeling pretty darn awful to have her drive me. I was in and out of the clinic within a 15-minute time period. Diagnosis: sinus infection, bronchitis and double ear infections. Yesterday I was feeling about 200 times better than I was on Tuesday. I attribute that to prayers and adrenaline. I had a lot to do: meetings during the day and the show during the evening. I accomplished everything I’d set out to do, except for editing the show.

Last night as we were doing the show I thought of many more stories that I could share about when nature attacked me. Since we had a limit on the number of stories, I thought I would start blogging some of them. Before you think, “but Kim, you just said that the editing is taking longer than expected and now you’re going to blog?” Files are processing in the background, there is no wasting of time here!

Years ago I had a cat named Sam. I loved him and he loved me. We were like best buds. He’d sleep outside my door at night or on the foot of my bed if I let him in. When I’d nap on the couch he’d curl up against my chest when I laid on my side, just so that I could put my arm around him. He was like a child to me.

Sam’s only drawback was that he got temperamental when we would brush him. Certain measures had to be taken when brushing him: watch the way he wagged his tail, watch his breathing, listen to his purring, watch his eyes. There were certain cues that needed to be taken into account to consider when Sam had had enough. Apparently, I missed a few of them.

I was brushing and talking to him, losing myself in the softness of his fur when out of nowhere he jumped at me. He didn’t have any claws so his method of “defense” was to use his teeth. His mouth opened and came at my face. It was like slow-motion that I just couldn’t stop. His mouth closed down right on my nose. The two longest teeth on the top sunk into the top of my nose while the two longest teeth on the bottom went into my nostrils.

Thanks Sam, I guess we’re done now. Back to editing.

I really wanted to post Wednesday night but I forgot how to log in to the website. I have now starred the email from Kim with the directions so next time I can find it faster.  I couldn’t find it Wednesday and it was already past my bedtime (way past actually) so I gave up and went to bed.

It is really cool that I have finally gotten to 0 after months of trying ( I can’t remember what month Rachel and I started our war, see GNI Unplugged #2 for more details). Its kinda cool. Yay for me!

now if i could just beat Rachel at a war. maybe one of these days when i grow up and stop cheating ;~)  [wait, i didn’t say i would stop cheating did i? hehe. ]

Two days later, while we were all at school, my mother entered my brothers room with an aerosol can of hairspray. That woman did some major hair renovation on that lil garter snake that he just wasn’t the same after that. Dead would be a good descriptor. It wasn’t until a few years later that we found out the reason for poor Gartie’s death. Mom is still proud of that hairdo.

Went to the orthopedist today to find out the results of the MRI. Turns out I have what’s called a bone bruise. From what I understand your bones have a bunch of tiny vessels within them. A bad fall can cause some of these vessels to break. If too many of them break, you get a fracture. if a lot break, but not enough to cause a fracture, you get what’s called a bone bruise. So basically I have a whole bunch of blood built up in the bone of my arm. Yeah, that sort of hurts. He said, if they had known it was a bone bruise sooner they would’ve put it in a cast. But since they usually have it in a cast for six weeks and it’s already been six weeks he doesn’t want to put it in a cast now. He actually wants me to start using it some to help build up the muscles around it. I have a new brace I am supposed to wear some. It’s another of the pre-manufactured kind, but it doesn’t hurt like the other one did. I start with physical therapy next week and will go back to the orthopedist on May 1. I’m not entirely sure how well it will go since I am still in a lot of pain, when not hopped up on my pain meds. But I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. Everyone was very nice to me today and the nurse said if I had any troubles, I’m supposed to call back down ortho. So I feel much more assured. What I found online is bone bruises can last from a few weeks up to four to six months. Not too thrilled about that. Considering all the nightmare scenarios I had running through my head this really is quite good news. It’s not actually broken and I don’t need surgery, yay! And hey, workman’s comp can’t possibly blame this on my tendinitis! plus it’s good to know that I’m not just crazy or a wuss for thinking it hurt so much.

ETA: Thanks for your patience over the weekend. Obviously, everything is back up and running! We’ll see you this Wednesday for our review of The Princess Bride!

Frustrated I went back to work. I tried to put my arm on the arm rest of my chair but couldn’t because where the metal of the brace is it pushes right on an injured part of my arm. I couldn’t even rest my arm on my leg.   A piece of paper fell off my desk and reflexes kicked in and I reached it to grab it. This sent the worst pain I’ve ever felt through my arm because this brace is letting it move so much more than the splint. I also had a tingling feeling in my fingers since putting it on. I finished up my day and went to the gym to do everything one handed as I have been. Driving home I wasn’t able to use my left hand for turn signals as I had.  Got home, told my mom this story, then took a shower. Got out, put the stupid brace on. I noticed my arm was hurting worse and worse sending constant pain through my arm.  So I ripped the brace off and my wrist had swollen more than it was when I first hurt it. With using the splint I could wrap my middle finger & thumb around wrist completely upon removing the brace they were about 1/4″ apart but grew to 1.5″ in the matter of ten minutes!  I took some Tylenol for the pain (can’t take ibuprofen) and didn’t put the brace back on. It’s down to 3/4″ now. I will be calling in the morning for an actual splint again.

Let me ask you, is it really a good idea for someone to be able to move their wrist in the manner that hurts them the most when you aren’t sure what is wrong and it’s most likely ligament damage? Yeah, not sure whose call the brace was instead of the splint. I guess I’m just used to the wonderful people in family medicine where they care.

I received word from the Brute Squad today that my co-hosts were confused as to the nature of my first What If question for the next show.

Don’t feel bad for her, once she learns how to cheat at Monopoly, she will be worse than me or even JME. She was really cute playing. She doesn’t yet understand big bills so she was confused on how I got changed when a property costs $160 and I paid $200. She kept asking for change, she would have to pay $200 and ask if she could pay $300 and get change. I gotta work on that with her. I will probably play again with her on Saturday night and she will kick my butt again.

There is a reason I am posting this blog. Let me tell you a story. Last summer, Rachel and I started a podcast war. The goal was to see who could listen to all their podcasts and get 0 podcasts on iTunes. At the time, we both had a lot of podcasts to listen to. Well, its now been about 9 months or so and I have not once gotten 0 podcasts and Rachel has about 50 times. I am desperate to win one of these days and once I do, everyone will hear about it. When Mr. Dashwood dies, he must leave the bulk of his estate to the son by his first marriage, which leaves his second wife and three daughters (Elinor, Marianne, and Margaret) in straitened circumstances. We then moved onto our main topic, cheating! Maggie picked this one and she wanted to see if any of her co-hosts were as big as or even bigger cheaters than her. Well I’m not going to say if anyone did or not but there was some moral outrage. You’ll have to listen to find out who the biggest cheater is and who was outraged. Here are some examples of our cheating ways: cheating on a spelling test, using cheat codes in a video game, not unloading the dishwasher and an under-aged drinking party. Before I do that though, I want to give a preview of the show coming out next week. One topic we discuss is Christmas memories. I saved this one for the blog. I am hoping that this will also help you all understand why we chose to adopt a family for Christmas. I grew up with a single mom. My dad was never really in the picture for me. We lived in California and he lived in Illinois. My mom worked more than 40 hour work weeks as an OR nurse. In addition to the 40 hours she often took call on nights as weekends. When she got called in, which was often, she would pull 12-14 hour days or work 6 days straight. She did all of that to provide for us and yet times were often tight. I remember going without things a lot, but it never really occurred to me to mind. I think it was because we had so much fun anyway. By the time I was in high school my brother and sister had moved out and I got to spend a ton of time with her. Christmas was the one time of year that I can say without a doubt that I wanted for nothing. I cannot remember a single thing that I really wanted that was not given to me at Christmas. It was the one time of year that she let herself spoil us. As a mom now, I can only imagine how hard it must have been to say no at other times. It was always a magical time for us. My mom acted more like a child than any of us during this season. I loved seeing her so happy. When I was in junior high she started a tradition with me that I hold dear. We went to the mall to shop and we saw a tree covered in hand made ornaments. When we looked closer we realized that it each ornament had been made by a child who would not be getting any gifts without help from others. We quickly struck a deal that I would give up a gift of mine so that we could buy one of these kids a toy. The kids had said what they wished for. We found a child asking for a watch. Such a simple thing, it touched us. We went into the Disney Store and bought a Mickey Mouse watch and brought it back to the tree. We were given the ornament that the child had made. We treasured it. Every year after that we found a tree and did the same. For a while we found them easily, children in need often asked for the simplest things… one year it was school supplies (we provided those and added a Barbie as well). For whatever reason, since my mom died three years ago… I have not been able to find one of those trees full of wishes. Perhaps it was something just meant for us to do together. Now that she is gone, memories of Christmas and the joy that we found together in giving to others lives brightly in my heart. I hope to be as wonderful and as inspiring to my daughter as my mom was to me. She truly was an angel in blue jeans. I am doing what I can this year to make Christmas special for a family that finds itself in situation so familiar to me. I know how hard it was for my mom to make Christmas happen every year and yet I was never one time disappointed. Please help me, and the other girls, and donate what you can to help make a very merry Christmas for a single mom and her kids.

Okay if you are still with me after that, here is my letter. The year started off hard for me. I went through a re-structuring at work that had consultants marching around making people feel insecure in their jobs and unsure of their future in the company. I worked a lot. I would be at work by 6:30 and leave at 4:30. I had to drive an hour each way to get there and I still had to bring work home. Even with all of that work, the people I worked with and for treated the employees like they were disposable. I hated every minute that I was there. I had to enforce policy I did not believe it, get yelled at, and was overall feeling very unappreciated. When a co-worker of mine whom I received a lot of support for quit and I got screamed at quite literally by a manager in front of others… I decided to look for another job. I updated my resume that night and looked at monster.com. I saw a job that looked like a perfect fit for me. I applied there and figured I would see what happened. I had been at my job so long that part of me felt like I would NEVER escape. A week later I got a call from the company I had applied to. I went in for an interview later that week. I was hired on the spot. I gave my two weeks notice that day and have never looked back. I have no job stress anymore. I have things that bother me, but it is more about personality quirks, like those you read about here. Really, after the environment I worked in before… these mostly just make me laugh or roll my eyes. It hit me a few days ago that I am happy at work. Usually tired, always wishing I could get up and leave.. but hey it is called going to WORK, not to play. The people there are just NICE. I can’t put into words how much of a difference this has made in my life. I work less hours, commute less, have a better work environment, and I get paid more with better benefits. Pinch me please.

Aly is getting so big. I am sure you have heard her in the podcasts lately. She is a spitfire and so funny. I love being a mom. I try to make our time together as good as it can be. We do a lot of different things, like the zoo, the aquarium, fun things that we can just enjoy together. She talks non-stop and now knows all of her colors and is working on numbers and letters. She is obsessed with princesses and spends a lot of time making me take off their dresses and changing their clothes. Being a mom is more than I ever knew. I love it.

The podcast of course is wonderful. I feel so lucky that I have gotten to know not just my three great co-hosts and friends, but the listeners as well. You all are awesome and I have made some really special friends from this. Thank you all.

I guess that is it for me. Thank you for sticking with me and reading all of this. I hope you all have a wonderful season and enjoy whatever holiday you spend. Please remember to give what you can, I learned from my mom that you can often times give more than you ever knew and you can make a difference with even a small gesture. Little Shop of Horrors
If you have listened to episode 11 where we reviewed the movie-musical Little Shop of Horrors, you would know that I got to go and see the stage version a couple of days later. After the show, my son and I were allowed to go up on the stage to check out the set and the final version of Audrey II. I’m so glad that I brought my camera with because I got pictures.

The funniest part of that whole scenario was that my son was suddenly very scared of the plant. You see, the stage and the movie versions are different. On stage the plant wins and everyone dies. That’s not exactly how things work out in the movie. My son was more than a little surprised and scared of Audrey II when we got up on stage. I had to drag him close enough to this monstrosity and show him how it was simply a giant, stuffed animal. Finally he got close enough with me to have someone snap a picture. He loved the musical and even got to meet some of the actors afterwards. The boy was so awe-struck that he couldn’t say anything or even look them in the face. When we got out to the car he asked me how come I didn’t get their autographs for him. I guess I should have known!

In this movie-musical, Rick Moranis plays the geeky character of Seymour Krelborn, who works in a rundown flower shop on Skid Row. While his boss, Mr. Mushnik bemoans the lack of business, Seymour seeks a way of bringing the shop — and himself — fame and fortune. He purchases a strange plant from an oriental street vendor, naming the plant after his girlfriend Audrey. Gradually, Seymour learns to his horror that “Audrey II” craves blood and flesh. With each of Audrey II’s “FEEED MEEE”s, Seymour must scare up human food to satisfy the plant’s appetite.

We had a good discussion where some of us were pansies and others made fun of the pansies, but what else is new? As per usual we rated it using our Buy It, Rent It, Catch It On TV or Skip It. Want to find out who the pansy is, you’ll have to listen for yourself.

So I was late today. I fell back to sleep after my alarm went off and had a scrumptious dream… sort of. I was dreaming that I was at a beach club and made an utterly charming remark when I looked up and did the intense eye contact-connection to the soul thing with none other than Harrison Ford… when he was young like I like him best… and then someone make a remark about the business across the street where those Moranis’ work… and then my REAL boss (Mr. Moranis is one of the owners, but his niece is technically my real boss and I actually love her) came up to the beach stand looking impossible regal decked out in an Audrey Hepburn/ Breakfast at Tiffany’s black sheath and Jackie O glasses. I whispered to the person making the remark that she was one of the Moranis’, but the nicest one of all… and then as dreams do, it faded into a new scene where I was sitting by the high dive with Harry, watching divers do tricks and we were doing that lay down, propped on your elbows, making incrediable conversation while gazing into one another’s eyes when who walks into my dream COMPLETELY uninvited? Mr. Moranis… wearing a plaid pair of trunks circa 1962 and a white tank top with Zinc Oxide on his nose. I woke up, looked at the clock and jumped outta bed. What a way to start a day.

I also found out a bit of inflammatory gooze (yes, new word alert). He left his wife for the nanny, whom he affectionately refers to as bossy. Yes, he calls her bossy instead of a name. I have no idea what her name actually is as no one has ever heard her referred to as anything other than bossy. Maybe the two watches is because if he is late bossy gets mad?

In addition to Mr. Moranis, I want to introduce you to another person in my office. We shall call her Ms. (never Miss or Mrs.) Talbots. She is stick thin, but always on a diet, wears her hair in a perfect wedge, and ALWAYS dresses like she stepped out of a catalogue circa 1984. She is full of pleasantries, such as her favorite way to greet me on her way out of the lunchroom on my way in… “Don’t eat too much”. She first said this time me the very first time I spoke to her. She has ice water pumping from her heart and a sacchrin smile. Artificially sweet and completely unsatisfying, it leaves you craving the real thing. Sort of the way new coke made you wish you had coke classic. More on her later…

PS Random listener this blog… is you. Whoever you are… you rock.

I decided to write about the thing which I should be doing now… work. For those of you who don’t know, I started a new job 3 months ago. I think I am just now starting to settle in, be comfortable, and even not hate being here ALL the time.

That being said, let me tell you about my boss. Picture for me Rick Moranis, now add about 15 years from the last time you saw him in a movie because I dont know about you, but I skipped “Honey I blew up the kid”. I am more of a “My Blue Heaven” kind of girl, but I digress. Now that you have your mental pic, let me tell you some stories about him. He broke his toe a month ago and rather than buy an orthopedic shoe… he lopped off the top of a pair of tennis shoes and wore that instead. Keep in mind this man is rich and CAN afford proper medical care, he just prefers to invent things himself. During the middle of a heat wave, he came in to the lunchroom and said “wow, it sure is hot.. let me fix that. He popped in a second later and said “I am such a nice guy, I turned the AC down a degree”. A degree, as in ONE. Whoo… we are talking 88 to 87. Let me tell you about the icy cool relief we all felt.

Last week on the show you heard my delirium after being cooped up all day sorting papers. What I did not mention is that those papers started out as a pile about 3 feet tall. I got, kid you not, THREE sets of instructions on how to sort these papers into piles. Because I am that stupid. AFTER (he insires all kinds of caps) I was done, I went to file these nicely sorted papers and lo and behold, there was a pile about a foot tall that he forgot to give me. Maybe he was focusing on the instructions he needed to give me?

Mr. Moranis brings in bagels every Monday. This is nice. He does not however bring in enough for everyone. He writes names on all but 2 of them and the 10 people without a labeled bagel actually get to fistfight for their share of the remaining 2. Once, he brought in donuts and when someone ate one that was not labeled for them, he hunted them down and asked them in front of everyone else if they had eaten it… more fun stories to come, this was just the appetizer. Laughter
So far I’ve listened, once again, to episodes 1-4 of GNI. I seriously heart my co-hosts. They’re way fun. I was listening yesterday while at the office and my boss came in to check on me about 3 or 4 different times because I was laughing so hard. Sometimes I wonder if maybe I’m the only one who gets the “funny” that we share in these podcasts, but then I read Twitter and find that many others are laughing right along with us. It is highly possible that they’re laughing at us though. Either way, ya’ll are laughing, and that makes Kim happy.

Cheating
Since we always seem to be harping on each other for cheating at one thing or another, I figure it’s time to start keeping count. Darren Blake of the Flick-a-Brac podcast had started keeping cheater counts for us, which inspired me to fine tune my listening skills as well. Once I can get current with the counts for all of the past episodes I’ll either post the cheater count here, talk about it on the podcast or both. Who do you think is winning the cheater war so far? As in, who’s The Biggest Cheater?

Quotes
While I was listening I found myself laughing hardest at some of the one-liners that have been spoken, be it in good taste or not. I then decided that I needed to start making a “quotable” list. I’ve done that and have posted a couple of the quotes on our Twitter Account. If you don’t follow us, I would recommend it. We post to that account when we have something fun to say, an announcement to make (new blog post, when we’re about to record, when a new episode is posted to the feed) and most recently, a new quote. These aren’t only things that four of us girls say. I’ve found a line or two from our listeners that I found absolutely hysterical.

Here are the two quotes I’ve posted at Twitter so far:

In checking our web statistics these days, I found some pretty interesting things. One, our numbers are through the roof. This is good, isn’t it? Yep yep. Two, we have listeners from all over the world. Three, the search terms that people have found us by are just plain funny.

Statistics
As of August 30, 2007 we have had 13,164 hits to our site. That totally rocks. On average, we’ll have 18 hits per hour. We had 415 listens to our podcast via the play button in our show notes. Monday, August 13 was the biggest day for website traffic this month: 1,148 hits. That was the Monday following our August 8 recording, coincidentally following some pretty huge podcasters plugging us.

Apparently it’s flagged as if it’s porn. I say it’s because it has the words “girls” and “night” in the title and much of our text here. I think they’re discriminating against girls at night, but that’s just me. Girl haters they are.

Okay, enough scenery. I have decided to write about things that make me happy for no real deep reason. I figure I complain enough about what annoys me, so here are some things I like.

I like the fact that the woman who shares my office space is sixty years old and she still wastes time when the boss is not around. I now know we never outgrow our ability to take advantage of opportune situations. I like paradise tea although I dislike the fact that quiznos no longer carries it. I like rain, it is currently 107 out. I really like the idea of rain at this point. I like the fact that infomercials never waste a chance to say “But wait, there’s more”. There really should always BE more. More is more. I like popping my gum, I like that it annoys people even more. I like the movie girls just wanna have fun. I like that my favorite take out place has coke zero on tap even though it is take out and I don’t order drinks there. It just gives me hope. I like pens, I mean I REALLY like pens. The make me happy in ways I cant explain, so I wont. I like blogs about nothing. I like ballet flats even though they make my feet stink. I like to burp. I like tacos, esp when I make em. I like a clean kitchen. I do not like making a clean kitchen. I like a full gas tank. I like my Murphy brown tee shirt although it is causing me grief as it is getting holes in it and it is so shear I think I may have to wear a tank top under it. I like cold when I sleep. I like chinchillas.

I think that last one was random enough. I like you, you rule. Unless I don’t like you, then why are you reading this you jerkoid? I like ending words in oid.

One of my hopes in having started this podcast was that I would get back into my movie watching again on a more regular basis (once upon a time!). I love movies. What a big “duh” moment, hmm? Anyways, it seems to be happening. The movies are taking their rightful place within my life.

Saturday alone, I watched five movies. Yes, I have a life. Yes, I was doing some other things while I watched. Here’s the run down of what I’ve watched in the past two weeks: Wallace and Grommit Curse of the Were-Rabbit (as if you didn’t know), Flubber, Breach, The Parent Trap (1998), Disturbia, The Haunted Boat, The Bridge to Terabithia and Blair Witch Project.

Flubber stars Robin Williams. I absolutely heart this man. He’s so funny and engaging. I rented this because my son saw the little green blob on the cover of the DVD. I’d seen it before and obviously he hadn’t. He loved it, particularly the part at the end where the flubber bursts from one of the bad guy’s behind. It was truly enjoyable to see this movie again.

Breach was a good watch. It was a little slow at times I’ll give you that. I found myself rather engaged in this movie probably more so than some. You see, my lifelong dream was always to have a career in some form of law enforcement (funny thing is that I became an artist). You could characterize me as hyper vigilant or paranoid, you decide. So basically this movie was right up my alley in trying to figure out how much of a spy the bad guy was. I wanted to know what he knew or if he knew that the clerk was there to watch him or not. For me, it was fun. I may not ever watch it again, but I did enjoy the viewing.

The Parent Trap was not the original version, but rather the remake from 1998, all modernized and stuff. I still like the original of this the best, however this one wasn’t half bad. Again, this was a rental for my son and one of his friends.

I watched Disturbia last week. I even gave a mini-review of this movie this past weekend on Darren Blake’s podcast, Flick-a-Brac: Episode 005. The first hour of this movie was pretty slow. Its intent was to build the characters and form relationships, none of which was necessary. It wasn’t disturbing or suspenseful at all. I laughed through much of it. I guess you could say that I’m a hard person to scare. The last 30-40 minutes is where things started to actually get good. There was a lot of suspense, a lot of questions raised and I was even creeped out through the last bit. I liked it. I would have loved it had there not been so much of the first hour.

The Haunted Boat was a movie that I rented because I really wanted to find a movie that was going to scare me. The description on the back of the box seemed like it may have fit the bill and the artwork on the DVD cover was pretty nifty as well. I’ll say one thing, don’t judge a movie by it’s DVD cover. This was the worst film I’ve ever seen in my entire life. The film looked like it had been shot with hand held cam corders. The audio was splotchy in places and the acting was horendous. I think some 13 year old must have written, directed, produced and asked all of his older cousins to do the acting. I laughed through most of this movie and any attempt at creepy was missed by a long shot. So, if you’re up for a really horrible movie, go see this!

The Bridge to Terabithia I wasn’t looking forward to watching at all. We rented this last month (and then again this weekend) because my son had remembered seeing all the trailers on TV and even made up a few stories of his own based on the word Terabithia. We sat down together and watched from beginning to end. This movie rocked my socks off. It was fun, sweet, heart-warming and it even made me cry. They did a fantastic job of getting me emotionally involved in the characters and what they were all about. If you can evoke emotion from me through a movie, you’ve done a fantastic job. If you haven’t seen this movie, I think you should get right out and watch it.

The Blair Witch Project is my all time favorite scary movie. At some point in the future, I may want to review this in the podcast so I won’t share too much about it. Let’s just say that I’ve seen this flick at least 15 times now. It still scares the crap out of me. Saturday I had someone watching with me who, I’ll admit I should not have said how much this movie creeped me out, thought it funny to use their scary voice at the most inopportune times. Thou shalt not intensify the scariness for Kim! Argh. Go see this.

Well my lovelies, I’m done with sharing my thoughts on the most recent movies that have made their way to my DVD player. My files have completed uploading. I do believe it is time that I make my way between the sheets. Are there any movies that you think I should see? Let me know!
