<p>I got back to working out today.</p>
<p>
<p>And, I went running yesterday.</p>
<p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been following along lately you&#8217;ll know I went ahead and got super sick after a stint of working long hours and eating poorly.  <img alt='Let Fear Drive You' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Let-Fear-Drive-You.jpg' align="right" width='114' height='169' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p><em>It&#8217;s all my own fault.  <strong>I never should have turned my back on good nutrition</strong>, hectic schedule or not.</em></p>
<p>
<p>If you&#8217;re new here or missed that post here it is:  <a href="http://www.girlwithnoname.com/2011/11/i-got-what-was-coming-to-me/">I Got What Was Coming To Me</a></p>
<p>
<p>Anyway, as I said:  In the past couple of days I&#8217;ve gotten back to working out and running.   (yay!)</p>
<p>
<p><strong>However, I may have gotten back to it a day or two earlier than I should have.</strong></p>
<p>
<p><em>I was still feeling a little &#8216;iffy&#8217; yesterday but a couple of things FORCED me out the door.</em>  I&#8217;ll tell you what the MAIN reason was in a minute.  </p>
<p>
<p>One of the lesser reasons was CABIN FEVER.  I was losing my mind just sitting around every day.  My body wanted to move, so I went out and moved it.</p>
<p>
<p><em>But is cabin fever alone a good enough reason to go back to it before you&#8217;re really &#8216;ready&#8217; and back in the pink of health?</em></p>
<p>
<p>It might be &#8230; and it might not be, and even though it HURT in the moment (<em>2 weeks of being sedentary is hard to come back from without freaking your body out a little</em>), it did me a LOT of good.</p>
<p>
<p>Sure, my hip flexors were screaming at me the entire run (<em>too many days in a row just sitting on my duff, I think they may have shortened a little, and were extra tight that day</em>)&#8230; </p>
<p>
<p>&#8230; and my glutes felt like knives were stabbing them with every step (<em>same damn reason&#8230; too much inactivity and my strong muscles were starting to get a little saggy</em>) &#8230;</p>
<p>
<p>&#8230; and I almost coughed up a lung (a<em>nd a bunch of other gross stuff</em>) at the end.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>But that long cough felt GOOD &#8230; and it cleaned me out.  And afterwards, <em>I felt about 100 times better</em> than before my run.</strong></p>
<p>
<p>So, today I got back to lifting.</p>
<p>
<p>Again, it hurt and I wasn&#8217;t as strong as I&#8217;m used to being, but I&#8217;m glad I did it  even if I WASN&#8217;T 100% back to &#8216;normal&#8217; after my bout with the flu.<img alt='Fear' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Fear.jpg' align="right" width='162' height='87' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p><em>But now, here&#8217;s the MAIN reason I went back to it when I did:  </em></p>
<p>
<p><font size="3"><strong><em>FEAR!!</em></strong></font></p>
<p>
<p>I was starting to get really scared that my conditioning would start back-peddling and I&#8217;d lose everything I&#8217;d worked so hard for during the past few years. </p>
<p>
<p><strong>And I didn&#8217;t want that. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p align="center"><font size="3"><strong><em> ! ! ! ~ I DO NOT WANT THAT ~ ! ! !</em></strong></font></p align>
<p>
<p>I let my fear drive me out the door to my workouts when I was CLOSE but not quite 100% back to feeling healthy.</p>
<p>
<p>But the workouts got me the rest of the way there.  </p>
<p>
<p>I now feel 100% healthy.  Yah, damn &#8230; I still have a small irritating cough, but the rest of me is perfect.</p>
<p>
<p>I let my FEAR of losing what I&#8217;ve worked SO hard for drive me.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>And that&#8217;s not a bad thing.</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>It&#8217;s a mindset thing.  When you have it, you HAVE it&#8230; </p>
<p>
<p><strong>&#8230; and nothing but <em>NOTHING </em>is going to stop you from reaching your goals. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p>ESPECIALLY not a stupid and lengthy bout with a seasonal bug.</p>

<p><font size="3"><strong><em>FEAR !</em> </strong></font></p>

<p>It&#8217;s an interesting emotion, isn&#8217;t it?  </p>
<p>
<p><em>Fear can actually PREVENT you from doing the RIGHT things, too.</em>  </p>
<p>
<p><strong>Like, fear of the GYM &#8230;  </strong></p>
<p>
<p>I mean, who the hell ISN&#8217;T afraid of the intimidating muscle-heads that hang out there all bloody day hogging the equipment and leaving their sweat all over everything for YOU to mop up before you can use your favourite equipment?</p>
<p>
<p><em>Sound like you a little bit??</em></p>
<p>

<p>And therefore we&#8217;ll have no video today!! <p>And yes, it&#8217;s TRUE !  </p>
<p>
<p>This crazyily committed &#8220;health, nutrition and workout chick&#8221; who always brags how she never gets sick cuz she takes such good care of herself went ahead and GOT SICK.</p>
<p>
<p><em><strong>I got what was coming to me, though.</strong></em></p>
<p>
<p>I maintain that keeping up a healthy lifestyle with good, solid nutrition from whole, natural one-ingredient foods will go a long way to keeping you healthy, even when those nasty little seasonal germs are out preying on you.</p>
<p>
<p>So, how&#8217;d I wind up sick then, you ask?</p>
<p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been keeping up here, you&#8217;ll remember that I&#8217;ve been working extremely hard these past few weeks, and was shooting some high end and complicated health videos for a client of mine a couple of weeks ago for a few days straight. </p>
<p>

<p>
<p>I was working ridiculously long hours during that shoot &#8230; and the only food being provided was chips and chocolate bars for snacks, and lunches were burgers and pizza.  </p>
<p>
<p><strong>YOIKS!</strong></p>
<p>
<p><em>Why didn&#8217;t I pack healthy fare to take with me, I was asked. </em></p>
<p>
<p><strong>Cuz the hours were long ENOUGH that I felt that sleep took priority over packing food for myself. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p>And I arrogantly let myself think that all my good health up til then would save me through a few days of eating nothing but crap.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>I was wrong.</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>It was definitely my saving grace for keeping my weight under control overall, and for being able to pick up where I left off with my workouts after a few dictated days off.</p>
<p>
<p><em>But I compromised my immune system by feeding it nothing but crap.  So it had nothing in it&#8217;s arsenal to help keep me healthy and strong and resistant.</em></p>
<p>
<p>Now, this has nothing to do with eating TOO MUCH.  Cuz I didn&#8217;t really eat a ton of this stuff.  </p>
<p>
<p><em>But it&#8217;s ALL I ate &#8230; for several days straight. </em></p>
<p>
<p><strong>And I paid the price for it. </strong> </p>
<p>
<p>When that little seasonal germ came calling for my health, it easily found the chink in my armor and <strong><em>BLAMMO !!</em></strong> Before I knew it I was coughing up a lung and making everyone around me nuts (<em>and a little paranoid since they don&#8217;t want to catch what I caught</em>).</p>
<p>
<p>Our bodies were not designed to live healthy lives purely on overly salted, sugar-laden processed, pseudo-food with tons of preservatives added.  They&#8217;re designed to live on whole foods you can find in nature.  Not that you find in a plastic bag or foil &#8216;freshness&#8217; wrapper.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>And I&#8217;m an idiot to think I&#8217;d be immune just cuz I &#8216;usually&#8217; eat a healthy diet.  <em>SHAME ON ME!</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>If I&#8217;d stayed the course and stuck with my usual healthy diet I have no doubt that I would have been in a MUCH better place to avoid this year&#8217;s flu like I do most years.</p>
<p>
<p>Rats.  That&#8217;s what being arrogant and letting myself slide will get me.  </p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>I&#8217;ll remember this.</em></strong>  </p>
<p>
<p><em>*cough cough*  DAMN!</em></p>
<p>
<p>And hey, while we&#8217;re on the subject of staying healthy and consuming naughty food, let&#8217;s remember that our annual temptation-filled &#8220;<strong>Season of Eating</strong>&#8221; is NOW UPON US!!!</p>

<p>Early mornings. Not my favourite.</p>
<p>
<p>Long days.  Don&#8217;t really mind &#8216;em.  I always feel like a good, productive member of society at the end of a long, busy day.<img alt='Night and Day' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Sun-Moon-Clock.jpg' align="right" width='135' height='136' style="border-style: none"/></p>

<p>But, I&#8217;ve been dealing with this crazy schedule for a few weeks now, and it&#8217;s messing with my preference to work out when I like to, usually mid-morning.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>Imagine my surprise at the result of a forced &#8220;<em>if you don&#8217;t do it now you&#8217;ll have to forfeit</em>&#8221; late-night workout!!</strong></p>
<p>

<p>Sorry gang.  No video today.</p>

<p>And that&#8217;s a bit ironic since what&#8217;s managed to suck me into it&#8217;s vortex is that I&#8217;ve been working like mad prepping to produce and shoot some health videos for a client of mine.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>A video for them means no video for us. </strong> <img alt='Video Shoot' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/video-shoot.jpg' align="right" width='170' height='170' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p>Drat.  Sorry.  I just ain&#8217;t got the time for it all.</p>
<p>
<p>But, today we&#8217;re finally shooting the video.  This is actually day 2 of 3 days of shooting.</p>
<p>
<p>We&#8217;re putting in some long days.  This is a complicated project.  </p>
<p>
<p><strong>And by &#8216;long days&#8217; I mean 14 &#8211; 16 hours each day.</strong></p>
<p>
<p><em>Yah.  Ouch.  I&#8217;m beat.  And there&#8217;s still another whole day to go.</em></p>
<p>
<p>For anyone who&#8217;s never been on set: once you&#8217;re there &#8230; you&#8217;re there.  No option to leave.  No &#8216;lunch break&#8217; to go work out.  You show up when you&#8217;re told and when you leave it&#8217;s cuz you&#8217;ve just finished your last shot and the work day has ended.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>Working out?  HAHAHAHAHA!!!  Right!!!  No hope in hell. </em> </strong></p>
<p>
<p>When you&#8217;re shooting you dismiss &#8216;life&#8217;.  Cuz you don&#8217;t have one.  You get the job done.  That&#8217;s it.  Showering is a luxury &#8230; if you can keep your eyes open long enough.  </p>
<p>
<p>Even *I*, the &#8220;<em>never miss a workout, don&#8217;t give me no excuses</em>&#8216; maniac that I am, even I don&#8217;t expect the average person to find time for a workout during these long hours.</p>
<p>
<p>And, cuz I&#8217;m just an &#8216;average&#8217; person, there&#8217;s no chance of ME working out under these conditions, either.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>And, now top THIS all off with the fact that this project is relatively low budget, which means there&#8217;s no traditional craft service (that usually has at least SOME healthy fare like vegetables, cheese and dips like hummus), and there&#8217;s no catered lunch from the gourmet lunch truck.</em></strong></p>
<p>
<p>Nope.  </p>
<p>
<p>We&#8217;ve got chips (doritos to be exact), leftover Hallowe&#8217;en candy bars, coffee with full fat cream and bakery goods to sustain us between meals.  Lunch is fast food hamburgers and dinner is pizza.<img alt='Junk Food' src='http://www.girlwithnoname.com/images/Junk-Food.jpg' align="right" width='189' height='154' style="border-style: none"/></p>
<p>
<p>Good lord.</p>
<p>
<p>Every time I eat something I&#8217;m hungry again in about 10 minutes.  Insulin spikes followed by insulin dips, followed by more eating cuz I&#8217;m hungry again.  Not exactly the way to keep one&#8217;s metabolism high and one&#8217;s calories low.  </p>
<p>
<p>Damn.</p>
<p>
<p>How about packing food to take with you, you say?  Sure, if you&#8217;re Superman  (in other words: ain&#8217;t gonna happen, sleep is way more important).</p>
<p>
<p><strong>It&#8217;s times like these that I&#8217;m grateful that I&#8217;m consistent with my workouts usually.</strong></p>
<p>
<p>Cuz when it&#8217;s all said and done, the fact is that 3 days down from my workouts and eating nothing but junk isn&#8217;t going to affect me long term.</p>
<p>
<p>Sure, an entire lifestyle like this would probably kill me early.  And I&#8217;m not exactly going to be my usual energetic self by the end of this shoot.</p>
<p>
<p>But since I usually stick with my exercise and good nutrition habits regularly, it&#8217;s not a big deal.  Hell, it was probably time for a longer break from the exercise anyway.  Recovery is important too.</p>
<p>
<p>But make no mistake:  I&#8217;m going to pay for all this crappy food I&#8217;m eating &#8230; not that I have a choice.  I don&#8217;t.  I am definitely going to gain fat.</p>
<p>
<p><strong>But!!</strong>  Because I&#8217;m consistent AND I&#8217;ve learned how to manipulate my weight through consistent practice with diet and exercise, I know it will only take me 3-4 days to get myself completely back on track.</p>
<p>
<p><em>So I&#8217;m not panicking. </em></p>
<p>
<p>If I was still in the dark about how it all worked, and I was trying to lose weight, I&#8217;d be through the roof with panic.</p>
<p>
<p>But I&#8217;ve learned.  </p>
<p>
<p>I know what it takes.</p>
<p>
<p>I&#8217;ll be fine.  I can relax through this project knowing I can handle this and get myself back on track in a hurry.</p>
<p>
<p><strong><em>Practice makes perfect, after all.</em></strong>  And I&#8217;ve been practicing for this eventuality for some time.</p>
<p>
<p>Alright.  Enough blogging for me.  Back to the shoot I go.</p>

<p>So, the other day I wandered into the nasty ol&#8217; gym with a like-minded workout pal.</p>
<p>
<p>Since I had all this equipment available to me that was heavier than I have at home, I thought I&#8217;d do a little experiment to see how heavy I could go for a 2-3 rep max set.</p>
<p>
