Praised by Rolling Stone, Relix, and NBC Channel 7—who famously noted, "What can’t this guy play? He oozes Rock & Roll swagger..."—he’s a multi-talented singer-songwriter, producer, solo artist (as Dude Cervantes), and founder of indie label Blind Owl.

Through Blind Owl, Cervantes champions authentic talent, working with everyone from punk legend Zander Schloss (Circle Jerks) to author Noah C. Lekas (whose collaboration Saturday Night Sage earned high praise from Rolling Stone’s David Fricke). Fans have a lot to look forward to next, including a rip-roaring live album with his solo band The Panchos and the anticipated release of Keep On Rising, a full-throttle 21st-century rock opera.

I love the pace and the mood of the song Thank You (For The Sofa), in between classic rock from the 70s and some indie rock from early 90s. A quality song with great drumming and a classy arrangement (fantastic guitar parts as well). I find the song energetic but melodic at the same time. Charnel Crown - Interview

Charnel Crown are a Dublin-based groove metal band made up of four hard-working, working-class musicians. Formed in December 2025, the band deliver heavy, riff-driven metal played straight from the soul rather than any desire to reinvent the wheel. Their sound is rooted in honesty, groove, and intensity, blending groove, aggression, and modern metal precision, music made by working-class metal fans, for working-class metal fans. While the band itself is new, its members are far from inexperienced, having performed extensively across Ireland and taking direct support slots with acts such as Xentrix, Chelsea Grin, Avatar, Fozzy, Jinjer, and Evil Scarecrow.

Hi and welcome to this interview. Tell us about your latest release.

Our latest release is our debut EP, Such Is Life, which came out on August 15th through Wanikiya Records. It’s a five-track EP and really serves as the introduction to who Charnel Crown are and what we’re about. We actually had the whole EP recorded before we even went public as a band, so this release has essentially been with us from day one.

The EP was recorded, mixed, mastered, and produced by JSR Audio up in Belfast. We released three singles in the build-up — "People Like You," "In For A Penny," and the title track "Such Is Life." The music video for "People Like You" was shot by NVRMNT, "In For A Penny" had a lyric video created by Very Metal Art UK, and the "Such Is Life" music video was shot by Conor Tobin during our debut live show in Fibber Magees in Dublin. The EP artwork was designed by The Dark Side Art. There was a lot of work put into making Such Is Life more than just five songs thrown online, so it feels fucking great to finally have the whole thing out there.

How would you describe your sound?

We’d describe our sound as groove metal at its core, but there’s a lot more going on around that. We pull from groove, thrash, nu-metal, and alternative metal, with big riffs, heavy grooves, and an emphasis on writing songs that actually stick with you. We’re not particularly interested in fitting neatly into one subgenre — if it sounds heavy, feels right, and gets your head moving, it belongs in Charnel Crown.

What do you write about?

A lot of what we write about comes from the environments we grew up in and the things we've experienced personally. Such Is Life itself is almost an homage to that typical Irish attitude of accepting that things are fucked and just getting on with it. The state of mental health in this country is dire. Having gone through the system myself and having to fight tooth and nail just to receive some form of help, it really opened my eyes to how much stigma regrettably still exists around it.

It also reflects the backgrounds we grew up in. Drug use is rampant, there's an awful lot of shady behaviour, and plenty of problems that people would rather brush under the carpet. People often try to dilute those issues by saying "everywhere is bad," rather than actually acknowledging what's happening in front of them. That attitude of shrugging your shoulders and saying "such is life" is really at the heart of it. The EP takes that phrase and turns it into an expression of the anger and frustration that comes from actually living through those things.

What do you listen to when you are home?

Honestly, a bit of everything. Metal is obviously a massive part of it — Pantera, Korn, Deftones, Black Sabbath, and Tool would all be in there — but we're definitely not a band that exclusively listens to metal. Between us, there's rap, dance music, grassroots blues, and plenty of other stuff thrown into the mix. We just love music. If something has a good melody, a great atmosphere, or just makes you feel something, we're not too concerned about what genre it's supposed to belong to. If it's good, it's good.

What is your favourite live performance so far?

Terrorfest 3 at Mono's Bar, without a doubt. There was such a DIY feeling to the whole thing. We'd been drinking from fairly early in the day, and I remember showing up with a rake of cans and a bottle of Fireball to share with the other bands and people in the crowd. There was just a real sense of everyone being there together and having a good time, and sadly you don't see enough of that anymore.

We're a band that likes to have fun when we play. The music will always come first, but to us, the difference between a gig and a show is the experience. We don't want to play gigs — we want to put on shows. We want the crowd involved and to feel like they're part of it rather than just standing there watching us. We grew up watching bands that had a genuine connection with their audiences and looked like they were having as much fun as everyone watching them. Unfortunately, you sometimes have to go through quite a few bands before finding one that genuinely wants to give the audience more than they get back. Those bands absolutely still exist, and we want Charnel Crown to be one of them.

Tell us a funny story that happened in the studio or on stage.

Imagine this: you've locked yourselves away in a rehearsal room for six months writing. You record the EP, do the promo, photoshoots, videos, interviews, and then build your debut show up even further by announcing you're shooting the music video for the title track that night. Then, after the very first song, the guitarist's amp decides it's had enough. Absolute pandemonium.

We all just looked at each other and started laughing. Thankfully, we're not fresh out of the box, so we know how to roll with the punches. Dan, the sound engineer that night, was an absolute lifesaver and helped Stephen switch the amp out and get everything running again. In the meantime, Dean suddenly had to become a stand-up comedian for a few minutes and keep the crowd entertained. The show ended up going better than we ever could have predicted, but you genuinely couldn't write it. Six months building everything up and one song into your debut show it's basically, "Wham, bam, thank you ma'am — there goes the amp and all the credibility we've spent six months building." Looking back, it's fucking hilarious. At the time, maybe slightly less so, but we recovered.

What are your favourite albums?

Between all of us, there are definitely a few albums that would have to be mentioned:

They're all very different records from different periods, but each one has had an impact on us in some way — whether it was making us fall in love with heavy music in the first place, influencing how we write, or simply being an album we can still throw on from start to finish. It's probably a pretty good snapshot of some of the musical DNA that makes up Charnel Crown.

Which musician would you like to meet for a beer?

Ozzy would probably be the obvious choice, and for good reason. The man helped lay the foundations for the music we all love. To sit down over a beer and hear firsthand about those early Black Sabbath years, the birth of heavy metal, and everything he experienced throughout that career would have been incredible. There aren't many people who have left that kind of mark on music.

The Pantera lads would absolutely be up there too. That band had a huge influence on us, not just musically but in terms of attitude, energy, and what a heavy band can bring to a live show. To have shared a few beers with those guys and listened to the stories from their years on the road would have been something special.

What would you ask for backstage if you were the most important band on Earth?

Nothing too unreasonable — a pallet of Guinness, several bottles of Fireball, and one completely unnecessary bowl of M&M's with a specific colour removed just so people know we've officially become insufferable.

We'd need a fully stocked kebab station for after the show, a PlayStation with four controllers, and a framed photograph of Ozzy watching over the dressing room like some sort of patron saint of bad decisions. Then, buried right at the bottom of the rider in tiny writing: "Please provide water." We're professionals, after all.

What are your plans for the near future?

We've got a pretty packed few months ahead of us:

Short Skirts - Raw Food

Trondheim garage rockers Short Skirts fuse raw punk energy, surf riffs, and Scandi rock attitude into a high-octane live show. Since breaking out in 2013 with their NRK-backed single “Kids,” the band has released two acclaimed albums, Family Values (2015) and Flower Junkies (2018). Now featuring original guitarist Per Ellekjær Kjesbu on lead vocals, they continue to deliver the fierce, genre-blending sound that made them a Norwegian rock favourite.

This is their new single, called Raw Food. I love the energy, the punk attitude (great guitars and very cool riffs) and the solid and powerful rhythm section (love the middle section). The vocals are no frills and the chorus is simple and catchy. A short and energetic one, old school and with a great finale, also. Swiss rock band Jack Slamer have announced their brand new album Mask Of Broken Glass, which will be out on November 27th via Radicalis. The title track of the album is now streaming on all digital platforms. The band comprises of Florian Ganz (vocals), Omar Fra (guitar), Marco Hostettler (guitar), Hendrik Ruhwinkel (bass), and Adrian Böckli (drums)

Jack Slamer comment on The Mask Of Broken Glass: "After the songwriting was done, our singer came up with the idea for this song. Within an hour, we had shaped that rough diamond into the title track of the album. 'The Mask Of Broken Glass' is a 70s-style, forward-driving, high-energy track that unleashes the full force of Jack Slamer. Lyrically, it's about a friendship falling apart because the other person has changed for the worse. The mask of broken glass is the moment you realize they never changed at all, you were simply wrong about who they were."

I love the pace, the mood, the riffs (and the solo, reminding me of Deep Purple), the powerful rhythm section and the old style approach to the song, fun, energetic and amazingly performed by the band, with catchy vocals and very enjoyable start to finish, with a vintage element but modern at the same time.

Sona Bliss - Without You

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Sona Bliss blends influences past and present to create a heavy sonic assault packed with unstoppable pop hooks.

Harker - Hell Knows When

Harker are a Brighton punk band mixing Dischord‑style grit with ‘90s indie fuzz, crafting songs full of urgency, melody, and heart. Starting as Mark Boniface’s solo project in 2015, they’ve grown into a relentless four‑piece known for emotionally charged records and explosive shows across the UK, Europe, the US, and Japan.

The band have released another taster of their forthcoming new album ‘All That Remains’, due out 2nd October. The song is called ‘Hell Knows When’ and it's an energetic and quality single. Vocalist and guitarist Mark Boniface says of the track: “I can’t tell if as you get older you give less or more of a shit about people hurting you. All I know is – now I’m wiser, and I know my boundaries. You can deal with the hurt you have caused to your own soul, I hope to never see you again.”

After more than three decades of pushing the boundaries of progressive rock, The Flower Kings return with the new album, HOPE, due out on the 23^rd October, 2026 on InsideOutMusic. The follow-up to 2025’s LOVE, stands as both a celebration of their legacy and a bold artistic statement. The album also finds the band returning to the side-long epic, with tracks clocking in at 18 and 28 minutes.

Rather than chasing trends or revisiting past glories, the band has crafted a work that comfortably exists between refined musicianship and fearless ambition.

Founding member Roine Stolt explains, “At a certain point in life - you arrive at a place where outside opinions matter less - and the process gravitates towards making an album that YOU yourself would LOVE but would perhaps normally not be viewed as a commercial attempt at all. HOPE serves as a timely meditation on a turbulent time in the modern world. Without venturing into overt political commentary, its songs reflect on an era often marked by division and diminishing empathy while ultimately offering a message rooted in hope, acting as a roadmap, how to get there and re-ignite love in our hearts and our society.

The album's compositions come from Stolt and keyboardist Lalle Larsson, with its centerpiece being the nearly 30-minute epic "The Gods of Rome." Originally conceived from orchestral ideas developed more than a decade ago, the piece took an unexpected creative journey, at one point nearly becoming the musical foundation for another Anderson & Stolt project before ultimately finding its true home with The Flower Kings. Reimagined for the full band, it has evolved into a powerful reflection on contemporary life, using the imagery of ancient Rome to explore enduring themes of power, conflict, and the human cost of ambition.

Joining Stolt and Larsson once again are Hans Fröberg on vocals, Michael Stolt on bass, and Mirko DeMaio on drums. Supported by heartfelt performances from every member of the band, along with a number of special guests, the resulting album unfolds as a rewarding listening experience that reveals new details with each return. Stolt explains, “Like I said 37 years ago - 'This is the band I will be in for the rest of my days' - but I wouldn't dream of us making one of our finest albums ever in 2026!”

Formed in London in 2019, Red Light Acid Test crafts a heavy, warped take on alternative rock. Driven by choppy rhythms, staggered guitars, and dark, melodic vocals, the four-piece has built a reputation across South East England for their intense, no-holds-barred live shows.

We allowed ourselves to be completely honest in the writing process, digging into real experiences, doubts, and emotions rather than hiding behind them. That vulnerability gave these songs a weight and purpose unlike anything we’ve created before.

Musically, we pushed ourselves into new territory, embracing fresh influences while holding onto the intensity and identity that define this band. After four years, the German band Scream of the Butterfly released their new single “Still I Pretend”, a driving rock track with punchy guitars, strong bass grooves, powerful drums, distinctive vocals, and the band’s trademark: the flowing 60s-style organ.

Building tension with each word, the song leads to its core: the chorus lyric “I miss my freedom from the past.” The lyrics paint a dark, narrative picture of despair and emotional disarray. I love the riffs, the vibes, and the vocal lines, classy, super catchy, and backed by a very solid and creative rhythm section!

Ten Cent Tiger - Autophobia

Ten Cent Tiger are a punchy indie-punk outfit roaring out of Boorloo/Perth. Since forming in 2022, the band has built a fierce local reputation on intricate guitar work, infectious hooks, and raw melodic urgency.

Following their 2024 debut EP, Moments, the band pushed their sonic boundaries in 2025 with the breakout singles “Growing Pains” and “Autophobia.” Balancing high-energy guitar friction with deeply honest lyricism, “Autophobia” captures the frantic anxiety of self-isolation, a cathartic release that earned the band a nomination for WAM Song of the Year.

I love the pace and the mood, no frills and pure energy with a fantastic performance by the band. The guitars are very inspired and the rhythm section is very creative. It's a super solid tune, straight to the point, energetic and catchy, with a quality production as well.

This is My name and I love the sound and the performance. The vocals are old school and very catchy, the rhythm section is very dynamic and precise and the guitars are very inspired (what a sound). The song is amazingly written and performed and I love the bridge at 2.30, taking me to some old Queensryche / Ronnie James Dio moment. A very cool one, with an impressive solo section as well.

Three legged dog is the new song by the American band FreQuency7. The author describes it "Inspired by my dog, Repo, and his battle with cancer, this song evolved into a tribute to everyone affected by the disease. It’s a message of love, hope, resilience, and the unbreakable bond we share with those we love."

For over four decades, Sons-N-Britches from Kennesaw has been delivering Country and Southern Rock with impressive skill. Often referred to as the "Redneck Steely Dan" due to their outstanding musicianship and songwriting, they have shared stages with artists like Travis Tritt and Kenny Chesney, made waves on 94.9 The Bull, and released four albums. Their upcoming record, *It's About Time*, is scheduled for release on August 7, 2026. Additionally, they are launching a podcast called "On 3 With SNB," which will blend musician interviews with sketch comedy.

I like the happy vibes of the new single Ain't Leaving Here in a Minor Key, described by the artist as a "joyful, faith-filled farewell that refuses to treat death as a sorrowful ending. With blues, gospel, rock, and hymn references, it asks to be remembered with celebration, confidence, and a “happy tune” rather than a mournful sendoff". I love the arrangement (classy guitars and piano) and the catchy vocals. It's an easy listening song but with many tasty details and with a fantastic production. Also, amazingly written and performed.

Harmonic Mind, the band's 17th studio album, is another welcome chapter in the ever-evolving Ozric’s story. From the driving pulse of "Guardstones" to the cosmic momentum of "Space Platform", Harmonic Mind is packed with the flowing musicianship and exploratory spirit that fans have come to expect and adore. "Malachite" pays tribute to one of Ed Wynne's favourite minerals, while also giving centre stage to his custom sandalwood acoustic from Kif Wood Guitars, complete with a beautiful malachite inlay around the sound hole. It's one of many moments that highlights the warmth and detail running throughout the album, alongside the fluid interplay between Ed Wynne's guitar and Silas Neptune's ever-shifting synth landscapes.

Produced by Ed Wynne and Silas Neptune, with mastering handled by Silas for the first time, the album feels both fresh and reassuringly familiar. Even the return of the beloved Erp on the cover art offers a knowing nod to longtime listeners. There's no radical change of direction here, just Ozric Tentacles doing what they do best.
