I'm on a quest

1-3-5-2-4-6-1-3-5, you get the picture. Vegetarian runner blog here I come! Should be available around April 1st. This will focus more on PJ bootlegs for a year, and cookieempress will focus more on biscotti. We shall see. I don't want too many blogs saying the same thing, eh? Maybe I'll just retire cookieempress and this one for a year, and focus on BRob Bobblehead Biscotti and then Vegetarian Runner.

Running Musings - 031408

There is a myth out there that vegetarians do not eat enough of the right stuff to be healthy, let alone healthy runners. I'm thinking of a project to combine my vegetarianism with running, and prove the myth as a myth. I'll work on my strength in particular because even when I'm not a vegetarian that is my weakest point. I plan on creating a new blog, and Given to Run may start to focus more on the PJ stuff with little bits of running news. There's a lot of Pearl Jam Bootleg stuff on my new MLB Blog. I'll figure this out by April 1st.

For some more running musings, how about the following blogs:

Why Do Runners Die During Marathons; however

A Good Long Run Wouldn't Kill You

Running Musings - 030708

I ran 3 miles, and was very depressed aftewards. Actually, very is kindof a strong word. Afterwards I threw the ball with my twin's dogs so I can't say I was depressed since they were so appreciative of me throwing the ball.

However, there is a hill within those 3 miles that just took my energy, and I couldn't get it back. I've asked for information on hill climbing since then, and I'll continue to ask for it. Oh, look, who'd knew that Runner's World would have information on hill climbing :)

I'm not really making running an important part of my life unfortunately. That is a goal.

There were no highlights during the run.

Running Musings - 030408

I ran! Holy cow, sound the drums! 2 miles. I only ran two miles because I thought I was going to have a chance to see my twin. She stopped by on her way home from somewhere. She dropped off a Mrs. Fields cookie cup, but I wasn't able to talk to her. I'll see her later this week.

It was a good run. I was surprised that I was still a little flexible since I haven't run in over 2 weeks. I talked with my mom later this evening, and she said that she forgot to tell me she supports me in my endeavors including running. Isn't that cool! I think it's very cool.

Highlights included:

Linkin Park's In the End 3x
Pearl Jam's In my Tree
CC+The Music Factory Gonna Make You Sweat
Sleater-Kinney Ironclad

Running Musings - 030308

I created a new blog because Brian Roberts inspires me to run. Also, Pearl Jam music inspires me to run. Oddly enough, though I'm not running. So, after a real hard look I will make a bigger EFFORT to run. Take the inspiration and run with it is the way I see it.

Here are some choice blogs for the day:

Just One Marathon

Arkansas Runner Girl

Grey Matter Gruel

Running Musings - 030208

I haven't run in a while, and if I keep this up I won't run the Cherry Blossom Run. I thought I would make a good lava lamp. Mysterious, always moving, but at a snail's pace. I almost stoped a couple times, but I hate to stop, since I never resume running afterwards. I ran 3 miles.

The highlight was afterward. So, the run is over (Yippee!), and when I'm in my twin's house this little doggie in the picture, Ceasar, wants me to throw the ball. So, all of a sudden I'm not so slow snails yawn, but I'm the SuperBall Thrower! Great way to relax the arm muscles used while running. Also, I told my twin that I wasn't motivated to run this morning, but I was planning on running this afternoon. If she talked with her husband, could he come home early-ish, about the same time last Friday, so that I can run before he has to leave again? He did, and he laughs at me, and said, "You have no excuse!" He made sure to get home so that I could run before he had to leave again :) Man, I was taking such a good nap, too.

Running Musings - 021408

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjW1L7Q2by-MM5IVnsRrEv-mX4pLNWNlw-Q7_woVyTG4Vi_gjNTLBRApw9-g2G3dKwIJt4G60wha5KRdVqt3047jMYivSAfNIl8BNT2-xoMt_9jap34eaRpP5fDbZRuNdP6VOwVwKpVznX0/s320/Running+021408.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5167030354772916498" />Oh look! Water. Yep, I drink water after my run. I just ran 2 miles because I drank coffee earlier, and I didn't want to stay up all night. I wanted to be a little tired. Also, as I'm running tomorrow I didn't want to run so much that I would be tired tomorrow.

33 years ago I was in ICU after open heart surgery. This is my anniversary. I LOVE VALENTINE's DAY! Yes, yes, celebrate the heart.

This is my heart song, and wonderfully enough it was the last song shuffled for my run:

Pearl Jam's Given to Fly

Running Musings - 021208

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhewoxXbUQHQh8mqbOasUg25smaKYnrk8Oq5QmJf8wxwAMyhUqZ8IpVo5ByGRs5yjEic72Nx-MSrzfR4y2QYwvRLQyt_2FVKHE9dnCF7zyJhSsjHAcD4Bt2x0sIqrF_kv4dyFHlWWk6cem5/s320/Running+021208.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5166303732205779170" />I'm trying to add more photographs to this blog, but I don't usually take my camera with me when I run. Hence, you'll see pictures of what I eat/drink afterwards :)

This is coffee with almond milk. I never tried coffee with almond milk. Quite an experience, needs a lot of sugar. I thought almonds were sweet because I bake with them so much. Also, I drank almond milk by itself and it's sweet(?). Anyway, besides water, I wanted a pick me up. I have a lot of citrus to choose from, but I wanted to see how almond milk tasted in coffee. I usually drink whole cow's milk, and I don't want to go 2% or skim milk. What's the point? However, I am trying almond milk as it is lighter in texture, and would feel lighter within me. Again, it needed quite a bit of sugar so take that as it's worth. It's not bad, just a little too savory tasting for me.

My run was 4 miles, good speed, ran with the natural states instead of away from them. I was happy with my progress. I was on a treadmill, but wore a hat anyway because the little room I work out isn't constantly heated, and it's COLD OUT THERE.

Highlights included:
Pearl Jam's Dirty Frank
Pat Benatar's Love is a Battlefield
Don Henley's Boys of Summer
Third Eye Blind's Jumper

Running Musings - 021008

I ran the last two days outside, and there were moments of greatness about them! On February 8th I ran 3 miles outside, which includes a gradual incline, and I had a runner's high within the first five minutes of the run! It was during Sugarcube's Planet. Then at the end I heard Pearl Jam's Given to Fly (x2) and I was just loving the world! What a great song to run to. It's like the run was sanctioned by the universe because I had a runner's high, and because I ended on such an incredible running song!

Then, yesterday I decided to run the same route, but added a 1.5 miles. I remembered my mantra "quick turn quick turn" because a quick turnover is probably the way I'll be able to finish the Cherry Blossom Race more than a long stride. Through most of it I thought I would get swept at the Cherry Blossom Race because I'm not very fast outside. Since I've tried to work on my form I look up more, and I turn the quick turn. Also, there were a couple times yesterday when things just CLICKED! I mean I was running up a hill and running faster (?) I decided to slow down, consciously, because I was concerned I would hurt myself. Note to self: If I'm in a natural running state, don't slow down :) It wasn't a runner's high it was just great for the ease! So, when I felt those two snippets of natural running I felt I would be able to run the Cherry Blossom Race without getting swept. It was pretty cool! I couldn't believe I was feeling it when running uphill.

Highlights included:

Paul Simon's Late in the Evening (2x)
Linkin Park's In the End (3x)
Incubus' Megolomaniac
Tori Amos A Sorta Fairytale

Running Musings - 020708

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmixhEhia5cKcojMkHm5-g-KX2Fk6TPBUkVH1hZnVZ3DKKr1iMXt4KJ23Te4wAPg2LG2hnPQpUeaiUAYwlMxf9Dw4HQJYhyphenhyphen8Za0PZLGLFMHSmIsR0h-sIInzCSk-MZSZj2Z05pI3bbmZHW/s320/Running+Knit+020608.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164404200138442866" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwyHYL0g1qNvCD7YHpRWJCs-rghXTPUfRGQ1isz_MluN5pWQnQ3lJDoyVYN-lDgiNR32npoYWi3LeYUYmQZ3azMYDib0_YRsj5yBo3zUT6vNNyXHoTKvHusG3cXpJEUa9Bij7wrEyj8ZDZ/s320/Running+Knit2+020608.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5164403998274979938" />Last night I decided to run 4 miles. This morning I decided to not run, until I was knitting, then I decided to run anywhere between 2-3 miles. I'm knitting this blanket for my twin's husband's sister. It's a chevron pattern, and Karabella mirage yarn. I was going to knit it for Project Linus because no one I knew was expecting a baby. It's a great reason to knit, and try new patterns or yarns. I still plan on knitting a blanket for Project Linus.

The run today was HARD. It was just 2 miles, and I ate 2 grapefruit beforehand, but man, it was TORTURE. At 3.5 miles I wasn't so happy, but then I remembered that I had to go to work, and I better finish the last .5 miles and get to work.

Highlights included:

Pearl Jam's Undone
Pearl Jam's Why Go
Paul Simon's Late in the Evening
Sade's Sweetest Taboo

Running Musings - 020208

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTr-uNlox3_qwdwkdU32WLd_MhQ8q9fHDgv5c_3HFzmgNgYTvlYGlDMCnF_ed0oaepLcRTpt5IlqUa4tm0s1DW277YEiH8kywneiRfqDWlZsRlosbXK4uO_02ZwWSudiFVrJW3tOiogBXf/s320/Running+020208.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5162594854970689506" />I REALLY was going to run, really. I procrastinated for a few hours. Since it's Saturday that's OK. I stay at my twin's on Fridays so that an adult is home when their kids are home. Then my twin drives me back home on Saturdays. Usually, I sleep all day on Saturdays, but today I started off playing Dogopoly with my 6 year old niece

So, my twin went to get her oil changed, and I was ready to take a nap. I was all dressed for running as I KNEW I was going to do it at some point, but naps on Saturdays are just a great combination.

All of a sudden KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK on the door! My brother-in-law comes in "Go RUNNING!" Obviously my twin put him up to these shenanigans, ruining a potentially good nap. He took it one step further and invited the two little doggies to jump up on my bed, and be themselves. Eeeek! Ok, I'll run!

I was all dressed, like I wrote earlier, I stretched out good n' plenty, I was about to put my shoes on when I noticed I brought one running shoe and one walking shoe that's the same color! Ohmygawd! All that glorious procrastination for nothing. I shouldn't run or else I could possibly hurt myself with two different shoes. I really wanted to run. Oh well.

Instead I took my twin's dog out for a walk. She's mighty fast for a doggie that looks like a bratwurst with legs.

Here she is in a Cleopatra moment (her name is Cleo, short for Cleopatra)

Running Musings - 013108

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNSjraSrOOz4zOu5bu78T_3VE46k9DCluGcsCjHxqO-keATPznqk5Aqt6TzNh9NXMtuKpgseokVtoWRee-vQpKtaXI0uVOpvOQ8QfD9bnuiSqOIhxu6WJSzAmoMfTJslWOcC4gSHy6clOC/s320/Running+013108.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5161814626916730786" />I woke up at 6am, and I thought, I want to run! This is odd. It's not normal for me to crave to run in the morning. Very odd. I was wondering what was wrong with me, why I was so jolly to run in the morning. However, just the good feeling got the better of me, and off I went. See, you can see the moon in this picture. This is the converted bathhouse turned exercise area where I use the treadmill. I ran 3 miles, good speed. I was a little nauseous afer 2 miles because it was morning, and I didn't eat much. However, once I realized I still had to go to work I ran the next mile, no problem. I also found the social networking site Runner+.

Highlights included:

Linkin Park - In the End (3x)
Pearl Jam - WMA
Outkast - Hey Ya

Running Musings - 012908

Inside, and on a treadmill . . . base speed and base mileage. Man, I'm hardcore! I was very slow, and getting down at myself during parts because of my speed. Then I realized that the times I was getting down were times I was running uphill. Yep, I would definitely feel slower uphill. It wasn't a bad run overall. I actually feel good that I didn't feel bad afterwards. I had energy after the run. I do not want to work so hard that I don't have energy after a run. Afterall, I'm doing this for fun, besides all the other things. I don't usually get runners' highs when I run outside probably because I run slowest outside. Hopefully, by the time the Cherry Blossom Race comes along I will be working harder on running, but not debilitatingly so, and I will have some runners' highs. Of course, if I have a runner's high outside then I might bump into a tree. Better yet, maybe no runner's high outdoors. :)

Highlights included:

Sugarcubes' Planet
Pearl Jam's In My Tree
Frou Frou's Let Go

Running Musings - 012308

It was a beautiful moon this morning. I woke up at about 5am, but I didn't run until about 7am. It was slower than yesterday, but still base mileage and speed (according to the treadmill.) Of course, since it was early I thought it was a great effort! Waking up early is for the birds! Yike! I'll guess I'll have to continue to wake up early as it's the only way for me to prepare for the early run. It was a nice moon. I wanted to take a picture, but I didn't prepare myself in time.

Hightlights included:

Pearl Jam's Given to Fly (2x)
Pearl Jam's Alone (2x)
Sleater-Kinney's Ironclad (2x)
CC+The Music Factory's Gonna Make You Sweat

Running Musings - 012208

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6LPeuvoYp6wEgTlZ1HoruIJjS-wRSjy8PN6DW0HV1PjqKjHBfdHAffo1niC7Z7LB1i6g5Dy7ZQo4w2gRLvh14kv6vd250jFgfbFv2VXJTeboIbuzljXmcVzqKXfOp7HUcPhmz-Mw2Ipcx/s320/CCCookies+012208.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5158400251670372402" />Base mileage and base speed. It was a good run because I try not to worry about speed so much, at least the speed that will get me swept at the Cherry Blossom Run. I try to just enjoy the run. Today was enjoyable! Probably because I had chocolate chip cookies I baked this morning for breakfast, and throughout the rest of the morning. :)

Highlights included:

Pearl Jam's In My Tree (2xs)
Sleater-Kinney's Ironclad (2xs)
Paul Simon's Late in the Evening.

Running Musings - 011508

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT9P_iin2uCyXIxNK1eDv5cgOEXjqTNTZs3lzGLXRMxZDPv0ZsBY6v0rbMdya_wm5sSd2yySke-Ybs7s1uFHEzuk2KTdROdo7P4c0UcGAP8OGsUNUmOujdXZWLNFKpIjkHR7ZG7vDF50ez/s320/Running+011508.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155694813115916194" />This is my running journal. It looks very bare when I don't run much :)

Today I ran in the WAY WAY early morning. That was new-ish. The run was good, much better at the end when I warmed up. It was below 30 during the run, and I was indoors, but it's not heated unless someone comes in and turns the heat on. I was wearing my outdoor gear while I warmed up on the exercise bike. All in all I'm pleased, and yet not surprised, that I finally made it down there before the sun went up.

Hightlights included:
Pearl Jam's Education
Sade's Sweetest Taboo
Killers' Midnight Show

Running Musings - 011408

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQnjKHo-3uskJk0gyLvmmVdLVjasLubO_RTR05g62dsd_x7lIP1oltpwb6N5mmFh1Y1SVxgMdAMeD6G5wX1vd85akogHz2kIxRdtg5m-XTKQQSHu9ki82Gd17zvGwM9YBfIJIvuC9AsWNb/s320/Running+011408.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5155484501452332850" />I woke up at 5am with the express purpose of running. I was all set and ready to go, as I woke up with a refreshed feeling. The first thing I wanted was a glass of water as the heater dries out my throat. I turn on the water . . . and NO WATER! So, running was delayed until about noon. It sounds like water main maintenance was under way. Rather disconcerting.

It's starting to feel a little wintry, so I wore the scarf I received for a Christmas present over 25 years ago. It was a good run. I still believe in fruit before a run, and I don't need to eat that much to have energy.

Highlights included:

Frou Frou's Let Go
Don Henley's Boys of SummerBoth my twin and I think this song expresses our generation.
