How's it going? Had a good week? Blue Monday was actually a crappy day, which I found annoyingly smarmy. I'm seeing Beauty & the Beast in 3D later- SO EXCITED! I'm actually really happy to be back at Uni so it's not really a pick-me-up but hopefully it'll fill me to the brim with happiness?

An email arrived in my inbox this week telling me about John Frieda's hair tutorials on YouTube... I took a look and was actually very impressed at how easy and successful they were! I decided to wear one out last night and got lots of compliments, the following video is the one I used

and here are the results

The morning after hair was pretty good too and easy to restyle :)

How was Christmas for you then? I think I may have finally conquered jet lag, after a week and a bit! I'm wasn't even on American time which is the crazy thing; sleeping from 6pm till 2am, like a milkman (noon till 8pm US time)

I got a nice selection of presents this year, did you get what you wanted/needed?

I also braved the shops yesterday to exchange an item and picked up a couple of nice things in the sale- HELLO KITTY LIBERTY 1/2 priced goods from Boots :D and a £10 parker from H&M

The benefits that the closest shops to the beach town I live in being a chavvy shopping centre= the nicer items are ignored by people who opt for Peter Andre perfume or x factor CDs :)

Christmas kinda came in a flash this year! I've decided that next year I'm going to spend it away from family, because although I love my kin, it's such a stressful time and I don't feel I appreciate them. I'm going to book a trip to New York or Austria :D

While Christmas day is over, there's still 2 weeks left of seasonal parties and gluttonous lifestyle (the first week of January never counts in terms of enforcing new years resolutions) and Asda has a great range of party dresses available.

In Facebook times it's difficult coming up with enough outfits for every occasion, knowing pictures are likely to end up online but Asda have a good selection at affordable prices. I think a lot of their items are also transferable in terms of seasons as fabrics and patterns aren't particularly exclusive to one time of the year- something in the past I've found a problem; having tons of summery dresses but zero winter ones.

I got sent this one shoulder dress, which is unlike a lot of dresses I own but I really liked. I went for a 70s vibe outfit and worked it with my clogs and a satchel. I'm undecided about wearing it with the belt or not, what do ya think?

Why it has been a long time! I still exist haha

I can't believe how busy life has been since touching down in America all the way back in August. But it's 3am and I can't sleep so I've decided to blog :)

A most amazing thing about being in the Deep South is that it's mid-November and I'm still wearing summer clothes! I have finally got to wear all my cotton dresses. I bought this one below from the Debenhams sale before I left England and I wore it to the Homecoming Parade.

Can I just remark on how amazing British style is? Seriously, English people rock so much in dress sense! The generic outfit here is baggy T Shirt (usually provided from an event they attended), baseball cap, gym shorts. I get looked up and down for some of the clothes I wear (always overdressed haha) but I've learned to accept the funny looks and not conform to looking like I'm about to work out.

Wow, there's dust all over this place isn't there? I've been so utterly busy with the move and starting school that it's been neglected! America is really impacting my time, vocabulary and diet, it's rather awful haha!

Well it's been three weeks and I've been to a couple of frat parties, drunk from red cups (at one party, I had 4 red cups of alcoholic cool aid, bad idea- I was so drunk when I got home I couldn't even change into my PJs!) I've started classes too which are SO different from British ones... seriously! I've got another blog documenting my adventures in case you're interested in anything else.

I also got these very cute 'French Toast' socks from Forever 21... 95 cents! 95 CENTS! :o

We got a little paranoid earlier because 'Storm Lee' is approaching and ran to get food from the gas station. We got drenched to the bone and by looks of things...the rain has stopped! Silly over-dramatic weather reports paha. Other than today it has been 30'C+ and hasn't rained; I am getting full wear from my summer wardrobe- something Britain did not provide me with!

Everything's getting a bit crazy at the moment-
I'm leaving for America on Tuesday! Packing a year of clothes in one suitcase has actually not been too tricky as I've been pretty ruthless with items and as I'm in the south I can opt for warmer clothes..But I've been rotared into work so much these past couple of weeks. While I appreciate the extra money, I kinda need the time at the moment. I don't want to be recovering from jet lag and a row of tough shifts.

Being a waitress has somehow made me lose a lot of weight! Considering I'm eating a lot of the time (if you dine at a posh restaurant and leave half the food on your plate it will end in a waiters tummy, I was grossed out by it at first but eventually everyone does it paha) and heckloads of carbs, it's quite random but clothes have got looser and everything a bit firmer! What sucks though is the main area I appear to have lost the weight is my boobs and my feet! In fact I've dropped a SHOE SIZE! How rubbish and weird is that?! Chubby feet? haha

Speaking of feet I am a rather proud owner of a pair of Swedish Hasbeens! I got them second hand on ebay for £60 (half the RRP!) and despite being worn once before they appear as new, so happy!

They need breaking in and are still a bit tough.. I'm not sure whether to take them to the USA though? Will clogs look odd in Mississippi? Will everyone think I'm just a European exchange student in native/traditional dress? Thoughts please :) xx

Today is a hard earned day off... although as it's two weeks until I board the plane for a year in America (!) I haven't been able to go full slouch and have had plenty to do- buy a new suitcase, ring bank, look into return flights... and I still haven't found anything to spend my Topshop voucher on (crazy, right?)

One of the things that can easily fall apart when you get really busy is a beauty regiment, and unfortunately hair and skin really show the effects of diet, stress and lack of sleep. Like a lot of bloggers I am a complete beauty product junkie and I thought I'd share with you the products I really think are amazing and do provide results.

Over the years and basically since I began earning money at 16, I've tried many, many different creams and lotions. Generally, high end stuff usually works best but these items don't cost the world.

Freederm Lotion
Now, strictly speaking, I don't use this as instructed. Rather than rub in/wash off, I apply post-cleanse as a toner and massage into my skin. As it's lightweight and creamy it all gets absorbed without any residue and my face is notably clearer within a fortnight.

Dr Nick Lowe Purifying Foaming Cleanser. Available from Boots
I've suffered from bad skin a lot and out of everything I've used (basically every brand and prescribed medicated cream) this really has worked best. I love the results and would recommend it to anyone whose had trouble with their complexion. The downside is that it appears to be only available at Boots and only at bigger stores. It usually retails between £10-£20 but there are frequently deals or vouchers to offer it at a reduced price :)

Charles Worthington 'Results' hair healers
I haven't had a hair cut in a year- I may occasionally give the ends a slight trim myself but it's remained in good condition, noticeably improved when I've used a leave in conditioner etc.
My own little advice is to massage conditioner or a hair mask into dry hair 15 minutes before you take a shower/bath; that way it gets absorbed and remains undiluted by the water that it does post-shampoo.

Sudocrem
It maybe known as Nappy Rash Cream but it's good at calming skin for anything; sore feet from a night out, post-waxed skin, legs after shaving. It's rather cheap and very practical.

This last product is one I picked up recently and really enjoy using but I haven't had it long enough to see the non-instant results.

Boots Coconut Body Oil
It's solid in the jar but when you massage it into skin it melts and absorbs instantly. It smells rather amazing and leaves skin glistening in a pop star manner.

Do you have any beauty products you swear by?

What would you recommend?

I got this dress from H&M, it's so pretty but a difficult length-too long to wear over shorts but too short to wear without. Hmmm! I don't know whether to return of not?

This week

A big food festival hit the town of the restaurant I work in meaning this past week has left me slightly crazy and completely worn out.
My brother got attacked by a random teenager this weekend too. Years of living in big, 'rough' Northern cities with no trouble and we move to a sleepy beach town and both me and my brother have been victims of unprovoked assault within two months. It's gotten me very angry!
My Entourage addiction is slowly coming to a end. I ordered series 3 on Amazon Marketplace and was rather bemused when it arrived from Israel. I've been assured that it's all in English but I'm not sure if the handful of words I know in Hebrew are going to help me through the root menu and language features haha

My older brother has said I can borrow his Canon 400d for the next year :) very nice of him! I was saving up hard for one which means I don't need to fret so much about finances and I have more of a safety net in America. Although I need to really get use to using it; time to hunt some youtube tutorials.
I was quite upset about Amy Winehouse's passing. I saw her live at a couple of festivals and although at both events she was clearly troubled, her talent always shone. I was also annoyed by my Facebook news feed being filled up with posts declaring Norway's attacks more horrifying. Yes, the scale of the events were disgusting and tragic but they don't need to be compared and people can morn both.

I was just thinking, 'hmm, I'll have a bath and hit the hay' then looked at the time and it's not even 8pm! Haha, waitressing really exhausts you! I did completely over-do my day off though and went to London to see a friend, then upon returning home went straight to the cinema and saw Harry Potter (sniff sniff)

This was the outfit I wore, I intended to wear sandals but they're m.i.a at the moment (seriously starting to think there's a poltergeist stealing my clothes) so went for a 90s grunge look and wore boots, thank goodness I did as it rained buckets ( but unfortunately the rain made my skirt look as indecent as it ever could :s )

I saw a T-shirt in Zara's sale today with the slogan "we'll never be as young as we are now"- HOW DEPRESSING IS THAT?! Like pretty much everything I saw in my trundle around the shops this morning I thought 'this is reduced for a reason'.

Does anyone else feel that a lot of T-Shirts in shops at the moment appear to be designed by people that have got carried away? Part of it is really nice but then something's been added that has destroyed it? I.e. A nice illustration or photograph is ruined by a bow/diamantes or corny inscription ...And what's with the random internet abbreviations? Why would I want to wear anything with 'FYI' or 'LOL' on it?

Although I'm saving hard at the moment, there's not a lot I'm seeing about that I want to spend my money on!

It's that time again when I've been sorting out clothes. All ones I've barely worn have been listed on EBAY, I'm really finding myself low on clothes these days as I feel I've kinda outgrown a lot of my wardrobe, a lot of it is party wear or certain garments are falling apart. I'm already looking at things to replace them with which is probably not a good idea!

Also since moving house and also returning home from uni I've found that I'm missing many nice items of mine! I'm hoping the burglar that raided my flat wasn't a secret drag queen and ran off with a few items without me noticing and that it all turns up! (or that my flatmates didn't 'borrow' them)

Anyway today I went for a 60s look, and by 60s I mean the decade rather than the age range which I fear is what I pulled.

Summer is really happening here! I left for work this morning without a jacket, although it did end up cooling down a lot in the evening..I live on the edge haha

So change in weather means change in clothes, but also a change in music, don't you agree? The albums I played on repeat over the past couple of months don't fit in so much with the shift... can you recommend any new (or old) albums for me to check out? I've completely worn down Sleigh Bells, Lykki Li and Girl Talk and think it about time I went record shopping

In a complete contrast to my last post I'm wearing a rather mannish t-shirt.. in fact it is a man's t-shirt from Asda that I've snipped a bit. I've wanted a ninja turtle Tee for ages (I am an actual geek) but you can never find them for females!

I think I'm going to cut it up a bit more- make it more vest-y

An old dress of the mothers, Topshop bag (past season), Tiger earring NY

This dress isn't a perfect fit unfortunately! I'm huge at the hips (and thighs!) but have a pretty small waist which a lot of clothes shops and designs don't cater for :[ it's annoying because baggy clothes are extra unflattering! Do you find clothes shops fail to meet your preportions?

I also get irritated by the ranges of petite clothing but the lack of items in the tall range! (Just to make it clear that I feel that there should be large ranges for petite girls, but equal proportions for the taller ones too)

At 5"8 I'm only really standard sizing but with long legs I have to go for 'Tall' shorts or skirts because standard often look indecent; I have a Topshop voucher than needs spending but while every store I visit has both a petite section and a nice selection of shorts and skirts, few have a tall section! Even the one on Oxford Street had a small selection of rather uninspired items.

I had a female friend who was 6"3 and assumed she wore plain clothes because she felt uncomfortable with her height and didn't want to draw any further attention to herself but I'm starting to think it may have been somewhat due to the sheer lack of fun clothing for girls past standard sizing.

Do you have trouble finding clothes that fit or are flattering?

I tumblrd across the best DIY I've seen in a long time the other day; it comes from the website szmoon.net and tells you how to make a galaxy shirt. Well as I love all things space I had to give it a go!

It's very messy and involves spraying bleach and flickering paint! I got a mans T-Shirt (£3 Asda) and cut it up a bit, I was going to turn it into a vest but decided to keep the sleeves.

The planet brooch is vintage Tatty Devine.I also have a space rocket necklace which would've gone very well but my dad's got the worst habit of 'tidying up' where he in facts hides all my belongings. I swear there's a secret cupboard somewhere in this house full of fun stuff.

So I'm pretty happy with how it turned out...I think I need to add some more white and yellow splodges and maybe some glitter or even sew some planets on? I think if I did it again I'd stencil it into one area- like a triangle or a star

Have you found any good tutorials or DIY's lately?

When you were a kid/tween and would hang out at your friends house, did you get up to things that in retrospect seem a little odd? I've mentioned before about the time my pal and I dressed in disguise and went 'spying' around the neighbourhood and that we also use to 'make' perfume (from watered down shampoo, flower petals and anything we found in the bathroom) but we also use to have odd manicure sessions where we'd look at my friend's older sisters nail art 'bible' and try painting fun things on our nails.. The nail art book did have amazing designs (tigers, mini Da Vinci paintings, epic marbling) but they had all been painted on with watercolours and a tiny brush, not blobbed on with nail paint brissles. We did eventually improve on our skills but I have many memories of us all getting angry at our Salvador Dali style 'elephants' and 'palm trees'

Anyway, I found a tiny artist brush the other day and thought I'd revise the ideas in the book a little

I used Barry M nail varnish

and a tiny paintbrush

I also found some cute parrot earrings in Primark for £1

Has anything from your younger years inspired you at all?

I've also drawn across a map of all the places I hope to visit next year, I've been looking at Amtrak tickets and they're quite reasonable

Those ribbons that come inside clothes can be really useless can't they? Especially the ones in the armpits on non-strapless garments- I never quite manage to understand how they help hang the items up! Anyway, The Cookie Button & I have started a DIY project together to prove that once the ribbons have been cut out they need not be thrown in the bin! The great thing is that if the ribbons are the same colour as the piece of clothing you have a matching accessory as a result

We'd love other people to take part in the project, just contact either of us :D

Clothes Ribbon DIY

You will need

+clothes (inside hanging) ribbons! Cut them out using sharp scissors and use clear nail varnish to dab at each end to stop them fraying
+beads, buttons, old jewellery, scrap fabric
+brooch/safety pin, chain, key ring fastener; if you wish to create a particular accessory you will need this part, if you're not recycling something old they can be picked up pretty cheaply from a haberdashery

The Bracelet/Necklace
Pretty Gothic Lolita in style. This DIY doesn't feature it mainly but working with the black ribbon as a base gave me a monochrome colour palette and from there I got a good creative focus!
I begun by tying a strip of chiffon fabric into a bow around the ribbon.

Then I picked a suitable bead and attached it

And the ribbon can be used to strap it to your wrist. Simple as!

Alternatively, it can be attached it to a necklace chain

Bag Charm

This is the easiest, most simple DIY of them all!

Loop ribbons around where you wish your charm to be and attach beads!

Button Brooch

Again, a very simple DIY!

Knot the ribbon through the button but ensuring the safety pin is secured- a blob of glue might need to dry to keep it extra tightly in place. Turn it over...

Tye a bow and HEY PRESTO

As I said, they're all very simple! Hopefully they'll give you ideas though and be sure to check out The Cookie Button's incredible ribbon tutorials (and more, lots of goodies to be found on her blog) she's doing a series and I can assure you that they're all great! :)

Beach towns might well be my favourite. They're always a bit quirky and traditional, the shops are independent and the local communities are strong and passionate. But for however much I love beach towns, I really, for the life of me, can't enjoy the beach itself. Maybe it's the memory of eating sandwiches which actually contained sand, getting sunburned or accidentally swallowing seawater, I'll always pick hanging out in a park or an outdoor swimming pool to the beach.

But my aunty rents a beach hut and the family spent May bank holiday hanging there.

Dressing for the beach is a bit tricky at the moment as the weather isn't especially hot and when the sun goes in, it's actually pretty cool!
This is my beach outfit, I look a little like a Parisian boy, and it screams 'I have no interest in stepping anywhere near the sea', so it really is Pierrot le Fou's seaside style haha for some strange reason the outfit pics keep rotated so the quality is really lost and you have to tilt your head

My first year of uni is over, thank heavens! I've had a really tough year, not academically (I've really loved my modules) but a lot of things have happened that I'm ready to put behind me!

Being either end of the country means a great deal of traveling and train rides are by far the least comfy.. choosing what to wear is difficult for many reasons, which I have cultivated into a very neurotic list...

PIERROT LE FOU EVALUATES DRESSING FOR TRAIN TRAVEL

1. You do want to look nice enough, so that when you arrive home, all flustered and bitter, you don't look in the mirror and see a demon reflecting back.

2. But you also want to be comfortable.

3. Trains, particularly the London underground, have their own freak climate; boiling hot or shiveringly cold. In this respect it is a good idea to wear layers.

4. There's always an underlying fear that by some unknown circumstance I have an invalid ticket, therefore you want to look smart, so that in the circumstance this happens, the train conductor doesn't judge you to be a cheapskate trying to steal a ride...but also, not well dressed that you look like you can afford a full price ticket and hope that they take pity on you. This has never happened to me, but there are so many random restrictions and I'm never actually sure when I'm limited to use my young persons railcard that I cannot help but be anxious!

So this is what I wore on a most recent train ride.. unfortunately the air conditioning on one half of the journey did make me colder than an igloo, I napped it off though.

I'm so happy to be home/in Kent. It's so much sunnier here.. I love independence n' all but communal living is gross. 12 people to a tiny kitchen must break some law or convention, surely?

Am I the only one with horror stories of living with strangers/in halls?

I have one exam to go and am slowly moving all my bits and bobs from my flat to my parents house (I call it my parents house because it isn't quite home just yet, I'm sure after this summer it'll feel right)

So I'm about to do one of those heavy/matters to my heart blog posts [boo, hiss] haha... I've touched on the subject before but I wanted to express why I feel a particular way about an issue within clothes etc (I wouldn't call it fashion as such) and open it up for debate amongst ya all

So the issue is reselling clothes found in charity shops (either in vintage shops or ebay)... which I'm kinda against, for the following reason...

When my parents got married and had my brothers and I, they were young. They weren't teenagers but they hadn't reached their mid twenties and were fresh out of uni, which even in the late 80s was a rare thing. My mum was desperate to start a family and despite not being in anyway financially able to, they had one. Money isn't the be all and end all in raising kids, love's the most important thing of which we had loads.. But, in truth, my parents were very poor; it was the 80s and Thatcher's Britain was in full swing- we lived in a bad area and ate lots of beans, pasta and fishfingers haha.. Anyway, we never had a lot of luxuries and the most amazing thing to me when I was young was getting a new dress (not really any change), it was a form of escapism as it made me feel like a princess, when I grew a little older it became a way to express myself.
However, and onto the main point of this story, all my clothes came from charity shops or were donated by mum's friends with older daughters... when I say all my clothes, I mean everything (except tights and most my underwear)

Fortunately, when I was around 6 or 7, my dad got a pay rise or two, my mum got a teaching certificate and a full time job and we moved out of the grotty neighbourhood and into working-middle class life, though we shopped around sales, my clothes were new.
I know that today, there are places like Primark to pay for affordable fashion, but the quality is below standard and every time I donate clothes I've outgrown or no longer need I always have this hope that some down-on-their-luck girl, skint new mother or even just a poor student will find it and really love it, in the same way that I loved and treasured my second hand dresses when I was a child. That sounds really corny and even narcissistic..

I guess it's an unrealistic thought and the cost of living is much cheaper today, I'd be lying if I've never looked at a Topshop dress in a Hospice shop and thought 'ooo that'd sell well on ebay'... but I thought I'd put my feelings out there. Feel free to express your own :)

I'm back to Uni, after a month off lazing around I had forgotten how much time it uses up. Doubly so with deadlines!

All this work makes me want to rebel a little bit; perhaps not in a full blown rocknroll way (I'm still motivated to get good grades tehe) but through any other means... usually clothing.

I really appreciate eclectic and unusual clothing, when shopping with friends, they'll often say to me while holding something bold, 'this is very you'. I'm a bit concerned how much I might stick out in my exchange American University in a vintage beaded top or a DIY boat necklace -do you tone down you clothing out of your normal environment?

So to celebrate things bold, I picked out the items I found online that I covet right now into one garish, BOLD outfit

I also tried marbelling my nails..came out a bit rubbish and REALLY puzzled my dad haha

A lot of inspiration for clothes and style to me, comes from movies. I love them, I obsess over them..

So naturally when I was pottering around the garden the other day I saw an opportunity to take photos inspired by Sophia Coppola's The Virgin Suicides.

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of white floaty clothes but I did incorporate all the 70s-esq clothing I had. And made a little gif tehe.

To anyone who hasn't seen the film I probably just look a bit of a moron. It's a beautifully-shot adaptation, I recommend it.

Have you ever removed or put on sunglasses to find that a screw has dropped out and they fall apart in your hands? This has happened to me a few times now and while it is rather comical it is also irritating- You can buy replacement screws from some opticians and pharmacies but I've come up with an instant, temporary solution ... All you need is a pair of scissors and those plastic wire strips you get with sandwich bags :D

I also spruced up a pair of trainers with shoelaces from Accessorize :)

Hope you all had a good Easter, I completely overdosed on creme eggs :/
