I’ve got one thing you can do to make those travel dreams a little closer to a reality:  start a journal.&lt;br /&gt;

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy nor does it have to be a travel journal per se, though I do highly recommend the &lt;a href="http://www.sharingtravelexperiences.com/special-offers/travel-journals/"&gt;Abroad Travel Organizer/Journal&lt;/a&gt;&lt;a href="http://www.sharingtravelexperiences.com/special-offers/travel-journals/"&gt;&lt;/a&gt;.  It just needs to be something small that you can carry around with you so that when you have an empty moment, you can take a 5 minute time out and write in your journal.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Here are four things I’d like you to start writing in it.  It doesn’t need to be organized in any special way, but these are the things I want you to start thinking about:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Barriers&lt;/b&gt;:  What’s getting in the way of having that special travel getaway you’ve been wanting?  Is it time or money?  Get it down on paper so that you can look at it objectively.  Even if it is something serious that you can’t get around, such as an illness or disability, there are always options, such as a smaller trip not so far away.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Experiences&lt;/b&gt;:  What kinds of experiences do you crave?  Don’t think about destinations just yet.  Do you want to relax in the sun and do nothing all day, or do you want to hike a mountain and get some fresh air?  This is the time to get specific – whether it is spicy food or you want a hotel with a claw foot bathtub.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Others&lt;/b&gt;:  Ask your children or your partner to doodle a few thoughts of their own.  What kind of experiences do they want to have?  If they are different than yours, that’s fine, but you need to keep that in mind when choosing a destination.  If they’re the same, awesome!&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Destinations&lt;/b&gt;:  Ok, this one is the easy one, especially after you’ve done the previous task.  Are there places you speak the language and have always wanted to practice, or locales that just fill you with passion and vigor?  Write ‘em down.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;b&gt;Now Make It Happen&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Once you have things on paper, start making some tiny, tiny steps to making those travel dreams a reality.  For each of those barriers, what can you do now to get rid of them?&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;If it’s money, how about starting a tip jar and asking everyone to contribute as often as they can?  What can you cut for a few months to save some pennies?&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If it’s time, then ask yourself the hard question:  what’s the worst that could happen if I disappeared for a week or two?  The world will continue to rotate on its axis, I assure you.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;I’m not saying that if you start a travel journal that tomorrow you’ll be sailing in the Caribbean worry-free.  What I am saying though is that if you put your travel desires in black and white and start taking an objective look at what is standing in between you and those dreams, you can figure out how to make them a travel reality.  Broaden your horizons and see a bit more of the world: get a travel journal.&lt;br /&gt;

I’m preaching to the choir when I say “remember to make time for you!” But in all seriousness, it’s important to do just that. Here are some organizing tips to help you get time for you!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Sunday Strategy&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
·         Take at least 30 minutes to an hour to plan out the week. &lt;br /&gt;
·         Review the family calendar to see what’s on the schedule for the coming week. &lt;br /&gt;
·         Make a list of things you need to buy and shop for them at the beginning of the week. This will save oodles of time. &lt;br /&gt;
·         Sign permission slips, write checks for activities, arrange car pool, if necessary, and get the dreaded laundry done. &lt;br /&gt;
·         &lt;a href="http://staceycrew.blogspot.com/2009/11/sunday-sanity-saver-getting-your-kids.html"&gt;Choose your outfits&lt;/a&gt; and your children’s for the week. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Not having to “deal” with these things on-the-fly will help reduce your stress and create space to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea along the way.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Prepare the night before … &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As simple as it sounds, waking up to an empty sink and a freshly brewed pot of coffee can be the start of a great day! Taking the time in the evening will make your morning run smooth. Here are some tips for making mornings manageable:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
· Set the breakfast table&lt;br /&gt;
·         Have diaper bag and/or book bags near the exit door&lt;br /&gt;
·         Make lunches or set out lunch money&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Secret Stash&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you’re like most moms, you spend a lot of time in the car. It is your home-away-from-home, your office on wheels, your mission control. Maintaining an &lt;a href="http://staceycrew.blogspot.com/2007/11/car-organization-101.html"&gt;organized car&lt;/a&gt; is an important part of reducing your daily stress. Keep what I call a “Mom Sanity Saver” on hand, which includes the following: &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
· &lt;b&gt;        Extra change of clothing&lt;/b&gt;—Ever had a baby spit up on you? I’m afraid it will happen, so make sure you’re&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; prepared by keeping an extra shirt on hand in your car. &lt;br /&gt;
·         &lt;b&gt;Ziploc® bags &lt;/b&gt;can be a lifesaver! Whether it’s a dirty diaper and nowhere to dispose of it or a messy spill and you need a place to put a dirty shirt, sealing up the soiled material will keep the smell from wafting through your vehicle.&lt;br /&gt;
·         &lt;b&gt;Pair of sneakers&lt;/b&gt;—You never know when you’ll have a chance to take a walk in the park or just give your feet a rest from those trendy boots you’ve been trudging around in all day.&lt;br /&gt;
·         &lt;b&gt;Bottled water and snacks, &lt;/b&gt;including energy bars for mom—These items can be lifesavers if you don’t have time for breakfast or when you pick up kids from school and all they can say is, “I’m hungry!” &lt;br /&gt;
·         &lt;b&gt;Folder &lt;/b&gt;to place current paperwork to have on hand when running errands (not papers you need to file or coupons that you might use someday). &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
One sly trick I use with the kids to encourage them to think big is creative problem solving.&amp;nbsp; I think the universe agrees with me on this one, because it’s constantly giving me new material to work with.&amp;nbsp; It’s amazingly effective.&amp;nbsp; For example, we go to McDonald’s for hot chocolate and the perfectly annoyed teenager chimes back, “No. It’s broke.” My five year old daughter doesn’t skip a beat and pipes back, “Oh, okay…well, you have chocolate milk over there…can you just heat that up and put whipped topping and sprinkles on it? Please?” Oh yeah.&amp;nbsp; I am grinning ear to ear mouthing to myself, “Boo-ya! That’s my girl!” Of course, she’s naturally sharp as a tack, but I think Mommy had at least a little bit to do with it. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Ever since the kids first started talking I’ve encouraged them to think through their own problems, ideas, and theories.&amp;nbsp; If they had a question, they knew Mom would have one too.&amp;nbsp; “Why do cows have milk?” was answered with a “Why do you think cows have milk?” After a few stabs at the answer we’d consult the encyclopedia for clarification.&amp;nbsp; Their early understandings of the world were vibrant brainstorming sessions instead of dull brainwashing sessions.&amp;nbsp; I didn’t teach them what to think, but instead how to think.&amp;nbsp; Maybe I’m wrong, but I figure they will be inundated with plenty of information, facts, and formulas during their school careers.&amp;nbsp; They don’t need that from me.&amp;nbsp; What they need is a role model who encourages them to create their own solutions. An advocate that gives them the confidence needed to dare to build a better mouse trap.&amp;nbsp; And at times, a drill sergeant that can show tough love as I push them to be brave in their intellect. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
As the poor kid at McDonald’s consults with his manager on how to answer my little girl, my mind wanders.&amp;nbsp; I daydream about her sitting at the head of a biotech firm announcing they’ve discovered the cure for cancer or her changing the lives of autistic children with her innovative education strategies.&amp;nbsp; I may not know where her big thinking will take her, but I do know it will indeed take her places.&amp;nbsp; As her Mom, I will have plenty of questions to fuel her fire along the way.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;

I’m gonna pee my pants!”&amp;nbsp; One of my masterpieces is a number I call being “sneaky snakes.” &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Judging from the awkward glances I got this weekend, I’m guessing not everyone knows about being “sneaky snakes”.&amp;nbsp; For those who don’t know, let me explain the crazy, inner workings of my mind.&amp;nbsp; This occurs on random nights of good behavior when I get the kiddos to bed on time.&amp;nbsp; I sneak back into their rooms and whisper, “Who wants to be sneaky snakes?”&amp;nbsp; After a trio of hushed “Me! Me! Me!” shouts, the kids slide out of bed and tip toe to the door in their PJ’s, no shoes, and best behavior.&amp;nbsp; “Sneaky snakes” isn’t about going to Sonic for ice cream, it’s a special ops routine for securing treats past enemy lines (read: bed times).&amp;nbsp; The kids are giddy with excitement as they follow the rules: inside the car with windows up is the safe talking zone, you must be ready for bed, and incredibly sneaky at all times since no one can see you in your PJ’s.&amp;nbsp; If you fail your mission, “they” will get you and steal your ice cream.&amp;nbsp; And we simply can’t risk that!&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I do this a couple times a month with the kids and it never gets old.&amp;nbsp; To see the serious looks on their faces and their extravagant schemes to avoid detection, you would think the military should be calling.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; Of course they know that “mommy’s kidding” about the whole ordeal, but no one in this Soccer Mom’s SUV will admit that out loud.&amp;nbsp; Between homework, chores, and schedules, we live in the real world enough.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If you ever meet one of my kids on the playground and they start telling elaborate tales of “sneaky snake” operations, now you know.&amp;nbsp; They’re not imagining things, and neither am I.&amp;nbsp; Being a playful parent to three stark raving mad kids is about as real as it gets.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;

The “fast lane” isn’t always  fast, the 10 items or less line at the grocery store is full of cheaters, and  our kids don’t always “know better.” It’s a mad, mad world. What always amazes  me is the speed and grace that Moms exhibit as they navigate all these hidden  gotchas. Your baby sitter calls in sick 30 minutes before your big business  proposal? No problem, plan B is on its way. Your little one catches a nasty  stomach virus the day before the family trip? Mommy can fix it. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Moms have many superpowers, but I think one of our greatest is the ability to make the most ridiculous and impossible situations seem  completely normal and effortless. We do this purely for the greater “good”, not  recognition, praise, or even a pair of Jimmy Choo’s. As Moms, our needs are  simple. All we want is safe, secure kids that are full of life and bursting with  confidence to tackle the world in all its glory. To know that as we nurture  these small minds they will grow to become great minds. Great minds that are  full of possibility and purpose and will help make our world a better place.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
It’s easy to lose sight of that big picture as we get caught up in the details  of everyday life. Instead of feeling proud, I feel guilty for forgetting to pack  an extra juice box for snack time, not having the energy to walk the dog, or for  letting a DVD teach my three year old the alphabet. These are the  voices of “mom guilt” that sneak into our thoughts as we strive for perfection  each day. As Moms with superpowers, this is surely our kryptonite.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
To help  defend against “mom guilt”, I’ve made a simple change. Instead of focusing on  all the “things” I need to do to make it a productive day, I now focus on all  the “moments” that will make it perfect. My “to do” list starts with snuggle  time with each kid, teaching my three year old how to catch fireflies, reading  with my oldest, and pink manicures with my daughter. When I look back at my  day’s accomplishments, missing those things are what will hurt most. These are  my true priorities. I can mail the Netflix tomorrow, but I can’t re-live a  missed moment with my kids.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
This reality is my best defense against mom guilt  and I keep my list close. When life’s little surprises threaten to derail my  day, I can check my list and see in an instant I did what counts. &lt;i&gt;BIFF! BAM!!!  POWW!&lt;/i&gt; My superpowers are re-energized and I'm ready for more snuggle time.  &lt;br /&gt;

As a Mother I can’t help but be heartsick and frustrated as I read some of the headlines that pass for “news” these days.&amp;nbsp; I know I sound like the crazy old lady at church preaching about the “good ‘ol days”, but so be it. Whether it’s &lt;a class="zem_slink freebase/en/heidi_montag" href="http://draft.blogger.com/%3Cdiv%20class=%22separator%22%20style=%22clear:%20both;%20text-align:%20center;%22%3E%20%3Ca%20href=%22http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_D3LB4LdN-v0/S1nYk1yjZ3I/AAAAAAAAAak/SbMoiu-apS0/s1600-h/ReannahMommy6.jpg%22%20imageanchor=%221%22%20style=%22margin-left:%201em;%20margin-right:%201em;%22%3E%3Cimg%20border=%220%22%20height=%22240%22%20src=%22http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_D3LB4LdN-v0/S1nYk1yjZ3I/AAAAAAAAAak/SbMoiu-apS0/s320/ReannahMommy6.jpg%22%20width=%22320%22%20/%3E%3C/a%3E%20%3C/div%3E" rel="imdb" title="Heidi Montag"&gt;Heidi Montag&lt;/a&gt; making herself bionic,&amp;nbsp;Britney having a very public meltdown, or &lt;st1:place w:st="on"&gt;&lt;st1:city w:st="on"&gt;Paris&lt;/st1:city&gt;&lt;/st1:place&gt; Hilton selling her soul (and body) to make a name for herself, I can’t help but pity them.&amp;nbsp; I don’t blame &lt;i&gt;them&lt;/i&gt; for their shortcomings, I blame their &lt;i&gt;Mothers&lt;/i&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
If they had a strong maternal figure in their lives, much of this bad behavior and obvious issues with self-worth could have been avoided.&amp;nbsp; While it could be argued that there are serious mental illnesses in play here, there’s still no excuse.&amp;nbsp; A Mother who loved her daughter would make sure she got the care she needed.&amp;nbsp; She would NOT parade her in front of the tabloids or feed her to the wolves (aka self-serving “agents”, “managers”, etc.)&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; &lt;b&gt;A Mother protects her child&lt;/b&gt;-no matter the cost.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I look at my three kids and honestly don’t know who to be more concerned about?&amp;nbsp; My daughter who sees these girls with all their fame and fortune and may deem them as role models? Or my two boys who will be searching for a normal girl that hasn’t been tainted and jaded by all these false idols?&amp;nbsp; Even at their young ages I can’t help but find myself having conversations with them about the importance of self-respect, letting their uniqueness empower them, that you don’t always get second chances….do the right thing the first time.&amp;nbsp; Even tonight, I sit next to my daughter helping her on her homework.&amp;nbsp; She giggles with each correct answer.&amp;nbsp; I congratulate her and she responds, “See Mom?? Beauty and Brains!”&amp;nbsp; I squeeze her tight, grateful that she &lt;i&gt;has&lt;/i&gt; listened to me.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
“&lt;i&gt;Beauty might get you through the door, but your brains are what get you a seat at the table.&lt;/i&gt;”, &amp;nbsp;as I preach those words I can’t help but wonder if Britney’s, Heidi’s, or Paris’s Mom ever said those words to them when they were young, innocent, and impressionable.&amp;nbsp; I wonder where they would be today if they had.&amp;nbsp; While I don’t know those answers, I do know I sleep better at night knowing that I did.&amp;nbsp; And do.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;/div&gt;I’ve never liked the idea of “diets.”  As a lifelong fan of fitness, I just don’t believe in quick fixes.  If you want to look healthy, have a great body, and the endurance to keep up with the busy life of a Mom, you need to eat &lt;i&gt;&lt;b&gt;nutrient rich food and exercise&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/i&gt;. Period.  The &lt;b&gt;BIG&lt;/b&gt; secret is simply burning more calories than you take in.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
While I could go on for hours about all the negative side effects of unnecessarily restricting your foods, I have one in particular I’d like to address.  Diets can make you look old.  You might lose a couple pounds for that weekend trip, but you can also dehydrate your body, create a sullen complexion, and add more fine lines than Mother Nature intended.&amp;nbsp; If&amp;nbsp; "looking better" is your motivation for dieting in the first place, I'm sure these aren't the side effects you're looking for.&amp;nbsp; That being said, there &lt;i&gt;are&lt;/i&gt; diets that can actually improve your skin's appearance and help minimize fine lines as well.&amp;nbsp; I've broken down several of the most popular diets below to help explain how they effect your skin and which ones are best for your overall health.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;b&gt;The Scoop&lt;/b&gt;: Carbohydrates help provide our bodies with glucose which is necessary for glycogen production.&amp;nbsp; Without enough glycogen in our bodies, we can become dehydrated which worsens fine lines and irritates our overall skin condition.&amp;nbsp; Glycogen is also a vital nutrient for keeping our muscles and tissues healthy, without it our skin can become saggy and sullen. &lt;/div&gt;As Moms, we are often our own worst enemies.  While motherhood can bring out our more endearing qualities such as selflessness, adoration, and servitude.  It can also bring out less favorable qualities such as self-doubt, guilt, and feelings of helplessness.&amp;nbsp; We want our kids to have the world at their finger tips.  All too often we are willing to sacrifice ourselves to help accomplish that.  Our lives are no longer our own. The new priority is nurturing our little one with everything that is good and wholesome.  While this is a noble task, it is often fraught with frustration, guilt, and at its worse-depression.  &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So where did it all go wrong?  Ever hear the saying, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”.  Let’s just say there’s some truth to it.  You can’t raise a happy, emotionally stable, confident child if you yourself aren’t happy.  To put it simply, if you want a happy child, you must be a happy Mom.  Seems easy enough, huh?  It is.  At least until you factor in that nasty little devil called “mom guilt”.  This little guy whispers in our ears that a solo trip to the grocery store counts as “me” time, that we must wear sneakers 24/7 in case our six week old sprouts wings, and that you need vocal training to sing nursery rhymes.  (Feel free to blame him for still wearing your maternity clothes and flip flops to baby’s six month check up as well.  I’m sure he had something to do with it.)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
So what's the morale of the story? Motherhood isn't about being the real life &lt;a class="zem_slink freebase/en/june_cleaver" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_Cleaver" rel="wikipedia" title="June Cleaver"&gt;June Cleaver&lt;/a&gt;, it's about loving your little one without abandon and promising to always give your best. To give your best, you must make sure you're &lt;i&gt;at&lt;/i&gt; your best.&amp;nbsp; Take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.&amp;nbsp; It just might be the best thing you can do for your child.&lt;br /&gt;

I can write this one from the heart.&amp;nbsp; I took the "New Year, New You" philosophy to hair extremes and used it as a fun excuse to cut 10 inches of my trademark long, blond hair. I had been playing around with the idea for months and finally worked up enough courage to take the leap last week.&amp;nbsp; While I can honestly say I still don't recognize myself, I'm thrilled that I did it!&amp;nbsp; I think too many times we get stuck in "fashion ruts" and settle for "good enough."&amp;nbsp; Break free this year and challenge yourself to embrace change.&amp;nbsp; You just might end up with a new favorite!&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;/div&gt;I don't think there is anything more annoying than &lt;a class="zem_slink freebase/en/shaving" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaving" rel="wikipedia" title="Shaving"&gt;razor burn&lt;/a&gt;, especially after I'm already annoyed by the fact I have to shave my legs in the first place.&amp;nbsp; I simply don't have the patience for it!&amp;nbsp; Needless to say, laser hair removal is at the top of my list for 2010.&amp;nbsp; In the meantime, here's some great tips to help keep eyes on your cute little red skirt and not your red razor burn.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;b&gt;Prevent: &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Always shave in warm water, preferably at the end of your shower...hair will be easier to remove since it has had time to soften and the hair follicles are relaxed&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Use shave gel and a fresh razor, change them often and steer clear of the 10 packs for $1...you get what you pay for! (clean razors between shaves using alcohol to keep them bacteria free)&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Shave in the direction of hair growth, not the opposite.&amp;nbsp; While it might seem like you can get a closer shave by going against the grain, you're risking razor burn and cuts.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;If you're prone to razor burn make exfoliating a daily routine, it cleans pores and lifts the hair follicles which helps keep irritation to a minimum&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;b&gt;Treat:&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Soothe redness after shaving by sprinkling on baby powder&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;/div&gt;One the keys to looking great is making sure your hair color and make-up actually compliment your natural skintone. Skintone is typically classified as being either warm, cool, or neutral.  There are several tips for determining which one you are, but they can be a little confusing. Especially if its been a while since you've actually seen your real hair color or can't determine if you "tan easily".  Solve the mystery by standing in good natural light, and take a peek at the veins on the inside of your elbow.  If they have a greenish tint, you have a warm complexion.  If you have a bluish tint, your complexion is cool.  If you can't determine a blue or green tint, you're safe going with a neutral shade.&lt;br /&gt;

I’m looking forward to starting the New Year with a new sense of purpose, re-awakened appreciation for the little things, and a better understanding of my own needs.  One thing I’ve had to finally admit to myself is that I simply don’t have the time to take the day off, read a book uninterrupted, or even have a regular lunch date once a week.  I do, however, have small snip-its of time each day that I can steal away for some much needed stress relief, pampering, or meditation.  So instead of letting stress overwhelm me until I feel a breakdown coming on, my New Year resolution is to try a new approach.  Instead of aiming for the impossible, aim for the possible.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
With this new thinking, came a new idea for &lt;b&gt;glamtalk&lt;/b&gt;.  I know I’m not alone in my struggle to find balance and wanted a fun way to encourage all of us Moms to take a moment each day to rejuvenate, refocus, and reenergize.  So, without further ado, I’m announcing the launch of &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;365 Glam Ways in 365 Days&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt;.  Each day I will post a new glam tip for stress relief, life hacks, fitness, health, or beauty.  These tips will not only come from me, but from other Moms just like you wanting to share the lessons they’ve learned over the years.   In the true sense community, it’s all about Moms helping Moms.&lt;br /&gt;
