New Executive Announced

Following the Annual General Meeting of the Glasgow University Conservative and Unionist Students Association held on 12th May 2011, a new executive has been elected. The following people were successful in their elections to respective executive positions:

President: Stacey Leishman

Secretary: GeorgeMacDonald

Treasurer: Lewis MacDonald

We wish the new executive all the very best for a successful forthcoming year.

EVENTS: Meet The Candidates

This Thursday, 10th March a ‘meet the candidates’ evening is being organised ahead of the upcoming Sottish Parliamentary elections in May. All the candidates in the West End, Malcolm Macaskill, Iain White and Ruth Davidson will be present and light buffet and drinks will also be available for the very reasonable sum of £10 with all proceeds going to ensure Glasgow continues to have Conservative representation at Holyrood.

EVENTS: Glasgow No2AV Launch

On Wednesday 16th February, we will be helping the No2AV campaign launch in Glasgow with a photo shoot with a big “Glasgow says No2AV” banner outside the Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

There will be a FREE Drink for everyone who attends.

EVENTS: St Andrew’s Dinner

Our annual St Andrew’s Dinner is taking place on Friday 26th November 2010 from 7pm at the Reading Room, Glasgow University Union

This year’s guest of honour is Roger Helmer MEP who will be speaking on the subject of Europe and proposing a toast to St Andrew. Bill Aitken MSP will also be present and will be making a toast to the association. The evening is always an enjoyable occasion and is the central function in the association’s calendar.

Tickets are priced at £29 for association members and £32 for non members and include a four course meal with wine and port. Tickets are selling fast, but there are still a few available if you would like to attend.

The Conservative Future Scotland Conference is taking place in Glasgow the next day, Saturday 27th November, so why no make a weekend of it and come to the Glasgow University Conservative dinner and then go on to the conference on the Saturday?

Curry Evening

On Thursday evening we had our first proper event in the social calendar – our traditional curry night held for a change this year (you could say I was spicing things up…) in Mr. Singh’s India. The food was delicious and the drinks were flowing. Following the meal Stewart Green gave a highly dignified Loyal Toast. The vodka jelly shots used for the toast, perhaps not quite so much. Then Ruth Davidson, our candidate in Glasgow Kelvin (the seat which the University falls into) for next years Holyrood Elections gave a short and highly entertaining speech.

My thanks to both Stewart and Ruth for doing the aforementioned. Much to the delight of his female fan club, former East Renfrewshire candidate Richard Cook, also dropped in. We then retired to the Capitol bar, where further refreshments were consumed. Overall a great night was had by everyone.
