Legendary festival act THE BIRD come fresh from an amazing set at Womadelaide to play GLO Dance for the May full moon. They bring their trademark Funkafied Souful sound combining live Breakbeat, Dub step and Drum n Bass, with sounds from the Asian Underground and juicy Dub vibes – ALL 100% LIVE

THE BIRD’s high energy cross genre dance music is from the musical talents of Simon Durrington (keyboards) and drumming dynamo Ben Walsh driving an organic interpretation of computer-generated music. THE BIRD have toured the country and overseas extensively, playing at many venues and festivals including Glastonbury Festival, Livid Festival, Falls Festival, Adelaide Fest, Woodford Festival, Two Tribes, the Sydney Opera House Studio, Sydney Festival, Home Nightclub, and Earthcore to name but a few. This is a very rare appearance in the area and a show NOT TO MISS!

The night will also feature a set by DJ PULSE mixing infectious dance grooves from around the globe – glitch hop, ethno step, deep tribal, funky progressive and minimal tech.

GLO Dance kicks off 2013 with International consciousness raiser NAHKO + MEDICINE FOR THE PEOPLE direct from Hawaii. Only in Australia for a short time this group inspiring of global troubadours play their most funky set for the GLO Dance floor.

Nahko is a man of the earth. A quarter Apache, a fourth Puerto Rican and the rest Filipino. All native. His music – which he calls ‘spirited redemption music’ – talks of cultural wounding, environmental wrongs and social injustice. And then, in the blink of a third eye and the wink of a dimple, he talks about change, about cures and what will be. His songs are woven with beautiful echoes and glorious hope. Seeing Nahko & Medicine for the People play live is an experience not to be missed. The beats compel you to join in the rhythm. Nahko ignites epiphanies in the audience; dancing their way to sweaty transcendence. It creeps over your face like a smile and makes you proud to be human. Music is his medicine.

DJ PULSE plays before and after the live set to guarantee that every dance bone in your body let’s loose on the dance floor.

CHRIS DECKKER is the founder of the global Earthdance event and tribal dance band Medicine Drum.  Originally from Australia CHRIS has traveled the world, studying the healing effects of drumming and dance on tribal cultures.  He founded the Earthdance International charity event in 1997 which has now become the largest global synchronized dance event in the world. CHRIS brings his year’s of experience to the decks to play a pumping set of his funky global beats and grooves.

The night will open with the GLObal mix of DJ PULSE. (8.30-9.30)
