Together As One New Yeas Eve 2016 Returns to Silverado's Oak Canyon Ranch

2015-10-12T11:31:00.000-07:00

It looks like Go Ventures was not bluffing. This year Together as One will return to Silverado's Oak Canyon Ranch on New Years Eve 2016. Let's address the elephant standing on the Kitchen Table: there is a dangerously high amount of competition DJ Reza's company has to face for artist bookings and ticket sales following their still resonant cancelling of Armin Only, one of the most anticipated events of 2012.

Let's not rule them out yet, only time will tell what's to come.

5 Alternative Halloween Costumes to the Overpriced Embarrassing "Deadmau5" Outfit

2015-10-09T14:35:00.000-07:00

A rather interesting outfit has caught the attention of many. Yandy.com's "Sexy DJ" costume features a droopy deadmau5 head and a skin tight turntable short short...thing. It may not be the most thought out costume for the Halloween festival weekend, and at over 70 bucks...it couldn't be considered a worthwhile investment either.

In a mission to provide some inspiration for better outfits for you and your buddies buddies, we found cool, clever selections whilst surfing through the years of Escape from Wonderland that would work much better.

1. Panda Squad

Kudos to these guys for giving some thought into each facial expression and taking the time to execute it.

2. Sexy playing cards

Detail is king, and these particular girls happened to kill it with the whole package.

3. Fast Food Squad

Though you may have a fight and separate come post-fest-munchie time, the night itself will beget high 5's every minute.

4. A glimpse into the future

Celebrating the people who brought you the festivities is surely something that will bring a smile to said promoters face. This gender bender Rainbow probably brought laughs to Mr. Rotella, too.

5. PLUR-ney

Because sometimes you just have to go old school.

No, we're not linking you to that other outfit. Go forth and brainstorm.

The guys and gals behind SnowGlobe Music Festival 2015 are not being stingy about knocking you cold into next year. You may just want to brave the frost for this three day excursion, especially considering there's now enough music to make you remove some clothing with all of the dancing you do.

Insomniac Donates $105,000 to Three Local Charities from EDC Las Vegas 2015 Profits

2015-10-08T16:15:00.004-07:00

As part of Insomniac’s Charitable Giving Initiative, the Emergency Medicine Resident Research Fund, Injured Police Officers Fund and HELP of Southern Nevada’s Shannon West Homeless Youth Center will each receive a donation of $35,000. Since the festival’s move to Las Vegas in 2011, Insomniac has donated over $380,000 to local organizations.

This year, Insomniac held the first ever “EDC Week Charity Auction” during Electric Daisy Carnival, Las Vegas in June, raising approximately $70,000 for Culture Shock Las Vegas, a nonprofit that seeks to steer youth away from substance abuse, violence and hatred through performance art and dance.

The 19th annual EDC Las Vegas brought together a sold-out crowd of more than 400,000 people from around the worldto experience three incredible nights under the Electric Sky. Insomniac transformed the 1,000-acre Las Vegas Motor Speedway into a fully immersive neon-lit playground, where Headliners danced from dusk to dawn to the music of 200 of the world’s top dance music artists across eight newly designed stages. Festival goers explored more than 20 immersive art installations, witnessed 72 wedding ceremonies, dined on local and organic food truck fare, and made new friends while riding full-sized carnival rides. Fans unable to make it to Las Vegas witnessed the magic of the three-night festival through the Yahoo live stream, reaching millions of viewers around the world.

LA Times Ranks Stagecoach Above EDC Vegas, HARD Summer, & Coachella

2015-10-08T11:53:00.000-07:00

It had to happen eventually; following the end of the hotter, sunnier days of the year the LA Times has gone through all local festivals and slapped a grade on them based on we'd like to think are some pretty objective factors: "Wallet Drain," craziest VIP Offering," "Body Tax," and an overall grade based on these factors and their original review. In this full report card, Stagecoach received the only A, while the two biggest festivals in SoCal, HARD Summer and EDC, received solid B's.

These results may offend and enrage people but to be fair the grades are understandable, mainly for the reason Stagecoach was ranked so highly. LA Times says that they loved the 3 day country festival because there were no "Kardashians" lurking around VIP, which we all know can be a much more common thread at the many shows we attend; this issue of insincerity from the rich and popular(celebrity or non celebrity) is also present in large shows and clubs.

The fact is, electronic music has an over-saturation problem that weighs down on the objective value of the festivals it roots itself in. This is even further proven due to the weekend of Country, a genre of music many do not participate in drawing little more than half of the attendees of EDC but thriving due to the fact that everyone who goes is sincerely invested in it. This "Bubble" may burst soon, but right now it's presence is weighing down on the overall vibes of American Massives. Does that mean an individual experience with friends isn't fun? Hell no it doesn't. All it really says is that there needs to be some work done to make bring the overall commercial attraction to dance music down a couple notches.

Read all of the report card at LA Times.

Pandora Purchases TicketFly for $450 Million

2015-10-07T13:06:00.001-07:00

Pandora, the world’s most powerful music discovery platform, today announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Ticketfly, Inc., a leading live events technology company, to create the definitive music platform for connecting fans, artists and event promoters. The move is the latest step toward achieving Pandora’s mission to help artists find their audience and help listeners find the music they love—whether it’s coming through their earbuds or live on stage. Ticketfly provides ticketing and marketing software for approximately 1,200 leading venues and event promoters across North America and makes it easy for fans to find and purchase tickets to events.

The transaction is valued at approximately $450 million, subject to certain purchase price adjustments, with a nearly equal balance of cash and stock.

The combination of Pandora and Ticketfly will solve the longstanding problem of event discovery by seamlessly connecting Pandora’s nearly 80 million monthly active music fans to events they’ll love. This will enable artists and promoters to sell out more shows and will strengthen the bond between artists and their fans. The companies will also harness the power of their combined data to create new tools for music makers to increase their revenue and improve recommendations for fans to enhance their overall music experience.

“This is a game-changer for Pandora – and much more importantly – a game-changer for music,” said Brian McAndrews, chief executive officer at Pandora. “Over the past 10 years, we have amassed the largest, most engaged audience in streaming music history. With Ticketfly, we will thrill music lovers and lift ticket sales for artists as the most effective marketplace for connecting music makers and fans.”

Ticketfly was founded in 2008 by the team that pioneered online ticket sales and has become a major force in the live events industry. This year, Ticketfly was named one of Fast Company’s “Most Innovative Companies in Music.”

VIDEO: Native Americans Review Music Festival Fashion

2015-10-07T12:00:00.000-07:00

Hopefully you're aware of the fact that Buzzfeed offers more than listicles. For those smart enough to look past the shallow backlash that the news medium has endured, there's especially strong, amusing content to absorb from their video channel, one thematic series showcasing reactions to fabricated meditation on culture from people who have authentically grown up with it. Australians eating Outback Steakhouse, Mexicans trying Taco Bell- the list goes on.

The latest video though is one that will hit home for some, and hopefully serve as a wake up call: Native Americans reviewing festival fashion. Throughout, real Native Americans look at and respond to celebrities and festival attendees alike donning apparel that holds cultural and spiritual meaning and expressing what it implies to them. The ignorance of those wearing headdresses to festivals with the sole purpose of expressing themselves is understandable, but at this point considering all of the education that has come into the community about why this really shouldn't be a thing and Dirtybird stepping up to end it at their events once and for all, we can really benefit from thinking of something different to do this Halloween.

Desert Hearts Announces Lineup for November 5-9 Three Year Anniversary Festival

2015-10-06T11:29:00.002-07:00

Desert Hearts will once again gather their loyal followers in the SoCal highlands to bask in an extended 100 hours of nonstop House, Techno, and Love at their Three Year Anniversary on November 5th-9th. As visionaries within the alternative festival movement and purveyors of a unique 4/4 sound, Desert Hearts has curated a wide reaching exposé of industry leading talent for their biggest event yet.

The likes of Claude VonStroke, J.Phlip, Doc Martin, Andreas Henneberg, Marc Houle, Kate Simko, Olivier Giacomotto, jozif, Mark Henning, Nitin, Sabo, Goldcap, David Scuba, Tara Brooks, Dance Spirit and more will join the infamous Desert Hearts Crew DJs Mikey Lion, Lee Reynolds, Marbs, Porkchop, and Deep Jesus.

Emerging from the ethos of Burning Man while channeling the global sound of House and Techno, Desert Hearts has reimagined the festival vibe, paving the way for the micro-gathering movement currently sweeping the nation. It is this imaginative yet radically grounded spirit that has earned them the praise of media outlets like Billboard and The Wall Street Journal to Forbes and VICE.

2015 has seen great strides for Desert Hearts with a slew of releases from their newly minted Desert Hearts Records, which has been established as a free label. They have also launched their urban crusade, City Hearts, and its “Summer of Love Tour” has seen the crew touching down and selling out iconic venues in Brooklyn, Toronto, San Francisco, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Diego, with more dates on the horizon.

The reaction to the City Hearts tour and the label show that Desert Hearts is no regional phenomenon, and that their driving principles of House, Techno, and Love are capturing hearts and minds from coast to coast. We Are All Desert Hearts.

Major Lazer Unleashes Brand New Radio Show on Apple's Beats 1 Station

2015-10-05T16:33:00.003-07:00

While Diplo has his extended family wire in their own mixes on his BBC series, that showstopping, Dagger-influencing squad of his has yet to find an outlet to broadcast their own musical showcase. This is where Apple Music comes in: as home to shows from Disclosure, Anna Lunoe, Soulection and soon even Eric Prydz, the worldwide station has opened the floodgates for the musical tastes of Mr. Pentz, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire for the one and only Major Lazer's Lazer Sound Radio.

Gone should be the assumption that this will simply be a weekly 2 hour rehashing of their live sets: though they will obviously play some of their own creations and favorite bangers from others especially in the Mad Decent Anthems part of the show, the trio also section off spaces in the timeslot to include pure reggae/dancehall minimixes and various influential tracks for them that double as educational snippets for their listeners as to where Major Lazer found it's roots. A full listen of the show is perfect for junkies and newcomers alike...though newcomers may find the seed of addiction planted in their hips.

Check out the replay featuring a VIP Guestmix/Interview with 4B and tune into the show next Friday for the premiere of their new collab with Autoerotique; you don't need an Apple Music Subscription to tune in!

The Mighty Justice Are Planning to Return in 2016 with Third Album

2015-10-02T13:40:00.003-07:00

From the ashes of the Zac Efron's EDM flick come news of new material from the French duo originally associated with that title. Ed Banger Records' boss Busy P recently confirmed the two are in the studio, the project is rumored to surface about a year from now.

So much focus has been on legendary figures who have stepped from the shadows of the underground to bring inspired music to today's dance music. When Justice steps into the ether and onto festival stages with their own new cuts this revolution of sound can only increase.

More news on this soon to come, for now, Ed Banger is doing a great job of riding us over with their releases.

Is Bassrush Planning A Bass Festival in 2016?

2015-10-02T12:15:00.000-07:00

Don't you love Twitter personalities who lead you on? No less than 6 hours ago, Insomniac's Bassrush account confirmed the fantasy concocted by a loyal follower: A full Bass Music Festival experience is coming. No news on when has surfaced, but judging by the fact that they are being so open about it, it should be much sooner than later.

Though it's spreading like wildfire now, Bassrush has been a member of Insomniac's family for ages now as a haven for bassheads. As walls between genres today break and the open-minded nature to this evolution most present in this specific community, it seems like the best time for the boiling company to erupt; since Southern California is where it holds the most strength, said event happening in this territory wouldn't be out of the question.

Follow Bassrush on Twitter to be as much of a trainspotter as us.

Pretty Lights to Hit Las Vegas New Years Eve & Day at the Brooklyn Bowl

2015-10-01T12:39:00.002-07:00

Pretty Lights has always been representing different mentalities and ideas within the dance music ecosystem in the senses of his fanbase, his free music philosophy, and the way he approaches his live shows. When you first hear he's coming to Vegas for New Years Eve you may be s bit confused in imagining which club he'd be inhabiting, but the electronic/jam band esque musician will actually be occupying the strip's more avant grade joint Brooklyn Bowl. The venue has hosted such acts as Jill Scott, Purity Ring, Bassrush Massive, and Excision so his own sound will fit right in the uniquely structured and elevated Showroom.
