The legendary Above&Beyond make their return to Los Angeles, California at The Shrine Auditorium on On Friday, May 18th.

On Friday, May 18th Above & Beyond are returning to the city of angles and this time they are bringing their Group Therapy Tour. This will be Insomniac biggest Above & Beyond concert yet at the Shrine Auditorium. We expect this show you sell out as quickly as the past events so make sure you get your tickets soon as they are available. After an explosive 2011 from headlining the biggest festivals in the world including Tomorrowland, Creamfields, and the 15th annual Electric Daisy Carnival for the first time in Las Vegas but one particular event, or should we say two, was when they brought the Group Therapy tour to Hollywood on Friday, May 13th and Saturday, May 14th 2011. When tickets went on sale day 1 sold out within 3 minutes and made history, it also lead to adding a second night at the Palladium. Seeing them for the first time was beyond incredible, everybody was singing along to the words and dancing with one another for hours on end. We saw tears on peoples faces, which made us tear up. Hailed as the “Breakthrough DJs/Producers of 2011″ by Above & Beyond, Bruce Karlsson and Nick Sember have hit the ground running. Better known in the EDM scene as Norin & Rad, these two Southern California boys are really showing the world their unique take on trance.

Their collaboration with Thomas Cresine aka Recurve titled “The Gift” pushed them right into the spot light. Being only the second release on Tritonal’s Air Up There Recordings the track came in at #2 on the Beatport trance chart. It was even played on Armin Van Buurens massive ASOT 500 show by Armin himself among others. They immediately followed with remixes for world famous record labels such as Anjunabeats, Enhanced Music and Armada. One of their follow ups, a remix for Estiva’s track “Better Days” featuring Josie, was also played at Global Gathering 2011 by Above & Beyond. Coming hot in 2012 and already doing damage to the dance floors. Norin & Rad’s “Bloom” takes its debut on Trance Around The World 400 hosted by Above & Beyond themselves.

Above & Beyond have us all in the palm of their knob-dwiddling, keyboard mashing hands. With one lone Facebook status (complete with one hi-def, hi-res picture!), they have us clamoring for our workplace's Human Resources Department's information, desperately seeking out a way to get an advance on our paycheck in hope of fitting into the miniscule window of opportunity in which tickets for their next show are still in a state of open availability. According to Dancing Astronaut, Flexi PR have confirmed an announcement will be made next week. Exchange, maybe? Hm.

Eric Prydz is going to play a a literal game of "Command and Conquer" with EDM, and it's going to be one glorious, musically bountiful ride. He will be touring the states this year, releasing an album under simply "Pryda" (one word, so you know he's serious), and will host the album's release party at the legendary Ministry of Sound on April 14th. Dubstep, house, minimal, techno, acid, dub-house, minimal tech, tech house, tech-dub, dubmau5? Ah, forget it. Diplo continues his current personal trend of doing whatever he wants, whenever he wants, and because he wants with the latest installment of "Blow Your Head" for Sirius XM. Featuring the likes of Tommy Trash, Juicy J, Drop the Lime, and Schoolboy Q. It's like he takes a big electronic scissor and some digital glue and just cuts and pastes from what's garnering the most respectable buzz. Yes, it's a wonderful day to be a music fan in 2012. There was a piece by The Quietus on the UK's supreme being of bass and spooky sounds, Burial, regarding all the hyperbole surrounding his current EP/best of 2012 contender Kindred, and it was more terrifying than listening to the actual tracks whilst in the midst of a creeping AM hours ride home from a decrepid, time-stained bus while ...oh, that sounds dreadful. Yeah, wasting any more time reading small novels about Burial's sound is just painful to all those involved. Just check out the new EP somehow. Download it, go for a vinyl copy, just do something in order to get that piece of blissful melancholy stuck in your head

The Do LaB, the fine folks behind everyone's favorite earth friendly festival, Lightning in A Bottle, are presenting Emancipator, Shigeto, and Marley Carroll at the King King in Hollywood on Thursday, March 22nd. All three look like they put on incredible live performances, so this should be a real treat for anyone willing to go out to the King King that night. "I'm disappointed with the state of music right now, but it's not really about anybody specific. I think there's a lack of true art, and the fanfare is valued over actual substance."

Oh, the Places Bass Will Go: Skrillex, Diplo, A-Trak, and Dillion Francis at the Belasco Theater

Though overshadowed by the unfortunate passing of R&B and pop legend Whitney Houston this weekend, the pre-Grammy festivities happening in Los Angeles were neither somber nor sullen. Instead, they served as a chamber full of explosive warning shots for the next generation in music. On the eve of the music industry's most grandiose celebration, a "one night only" style lineup featuring American dubstep's torch bearing luminary Skrillex, master genre mixologists A-Trak and Diplo, and reigning prince of the no substance barred party music, Moombahton, Dillon Francis, took place at downtown's recently renovated twenty million dollar mega club the Belasco Theater.

From the start, a sort of maverick, indie attitude was involved in the blink-and-miss promotion of the event. First announced by our blog, Global Dance Electronic, on Thursday night (while many were out partying), within around a mere four hours the first round of tickets flew off the online ticketing shelves, selling out before many even got out of the club they first entered the night before. There was not a single well-manicured or prudently structured press releases involved, just bits of information zooming around the social media and blogging channels of the online world. Not a single street team was awoken from their collective slumber (or drunken stupor), nor was one glossy flyer hanging from the gutters of Los Angeles in the preceding days. The results: An incredible line of casual fans, club goers, and genre devotees entrenched and coiled around the colossal three thousand capacity venue by nine.

As the vibes of nightlife became thicker and the crowds a bit more restless, the venue staff, well organized and collected, hustled people into the venue. From the start, it looked as through every new attendee coming through the lobby rushed straight to the front, as if they had been pining all day to be so close to the decks that they could witness firsthand the direct effects of second hand smoking from Skrillex's billowing puffs. Each fresh person hurrying to the stage was welcomed by the aggression and immediacy of the opening performance already happening as Dillon Francis’ medley of dubstep and electro was playing itself out live on stage.

Before this event, Francis had already been heralded for the center stage role he has taken in the burgeoning Moombahton scene in dance music. During the event, he seemed to ascend to the rank of rockstar. As track after track of head and body swinging electro-dub beats pulsed through the club's monstrous sound system, it was as if he perfected the role of the opening artist as time went by. Not only did he hype the crowd and heat their anticipation to a boiling point, but he also cemented his own artistic self as an up and comer ready to take the position of dance music veteran sooner rather than later. If you came into the Belasco without knowing Dillon Francis' music, you woke up the next morning feverishly scouring Google for Moombahton mixes. Whether the mic he grabbed for worked or not (oh, they didn't), what he said with his equipment spoke far louder than words ever could have.

After a deafeningly high quality set, manners were exercised between Francis and A-Trak as preparations were quickly made for the very special conjoint set by A-Trak and Diplo about to follow. After a few introductory greetings and words were exchanged, both performers dived right into their craft, firing out hit after hit of modern house bangers, with a few championship quality scratching cuts by A-Trak peppered in for good measure. As the sounds of Spinal Tap volume hyper house and shuffling rhythms started to wane on, the two did what they seem to do better than anyone else on the market: they incorporated hip hop bangers into electronic music artistry.

Inaugurated by the sounds of the Lex Luger school of battle zone battery drums and synths, Diplo and A-Trak played an array of street-friendly smashes. There were strip club approved singles involving Big Sean and Too Short, Tyga's unusually dark and sinisterly produced 'Rack City,' Kanye West and Jay-Z's phrase popularizing airwave hoarder 'N*ggas in Paris,' and, of course, Diplo's very own speaker rattling 'Look At Me Now.' After the barrage finished and the crowd appeared almost over-satisfied with the phenomenal showcase placed before them, the usual mix of festival filling house resumed, and everything played out as if the last portion of the A-Trak and Diplo set was expertly constructed to transition to Skrillex's guttural dubstep.

Skrillex's sound may be divisive in a couple different electronic music communities, and he may not fit the image of the superstars filling the highest slots of lineups before him, but there might not be a more uniting figure in American EDM today. My reasoning: his near two hour set this past weekend. There were thousands in very spirited attendance, several hundred people in the pit singing along to his strangely melodic 'Cinema' remix as if they were at a rally headlined by a roots rocker, a constant wave of head and arm flailing as drop after drop of half-step breakdowns unleashed themselves, and the feeling of a persistent energy buzzing throughout the venue. Even those forced to be backed up against the edge of the crowd, with their bodies almost touching the bar, were moving along to crowd favorites such as Skrillex's blistering, robotic take on Avicii fan favorite 'Levels,' and original works from the 'Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites' release.

The conclusion of the night fast approaching, the effect of the club's unbelievably potent bass almost running its course, the giant fog spewing dancing robot (Kryoman?!) having long left the building, and the essential stage dive already performed, the show was close to its final womp and each person within the Belasco's several packed corridors and rooms had received their money's worth of dubstep and house. Not only that, but everyone was given the opportunity to view and hear Billboard Magazine's "Dance Dance Revolution" live as it begins to unfold.

There's plenty of hyperbole to be written regarding the pre-Grammy dance music exhibit in downtown LA this past weekend, but it would be an exercise in futility to even consider jotting it down. You can put what transpired as simple as this: EDM as a whole has reached the farthest reaching heights of success, and Skrillex, A-Trak, Diplo, and Dillon Francis worked together to take that mountaintop and tear straight down into its rawest form. That raw, unfiltered form evokes the best of emotions and reactions among music lovers, and steals the goal from the industry's game of trophyball. All of these performers from that night's lineup have an insurmountable level of talent, and we should be piling on the praise the morning after going to one of their unforgettable performances.
