If you’re anything like me, your gaming backlog is already enormous — and yet somehow there’s always another game you want to pick up when the price is right. The problem isn’t finding games… it’s finding the best deals without spending hours digging through dozens of storefronts.

That problem is exactly why I built SideQuestDeals.

Today I’m excited to officially announce the launch of SideQuestDeals, a new site designed to help gamers quickly discover great deals on PC and console games without the usual hassle of checking store after store.

Why SideQuestDeals Exists

Gamers today have more storefronts than ever:

Steam

Epic Games Store

PlayStation Store

Xbox Marketplace

Nintendo eShop

And countless key retailers

Great deals appear every day, but keeping track of them can feel like a full-time job. I wanted a way to make discovering those deals easier, faster, and more convenient.

SideQuestDeals aims to solve that by bringing deals together in one place so you can quickly see what’s worth grabbing before the sale disappears.

What You Can Do on SideQuestDeals

At launch, SideQuestDeals allows you to:

Discover current video game deals in one place

Browse deals quickly without digging through multiple storefronts

Keep an eye on games you’ve been waiting to buy

Stay up to date as new deals appear

The goal is simple: spend less time searching for deals and more time actually playing games.

Built by a Gamer

SideQuestDeals isn’t some giant corporate project — it’s something I built myself as a gamer who was tired of missing good sales or finding out about them too late.

If you’ve followed Global Geek News for a while, you know I’ve always enjoyed building tools and projects that make geeky life a little easier. SideQuestDeals is the latest example of that.

And this is just the beginning.

What’s Coming Next

This initial launch is version 1, and there’s a lot more planned for the future, including improvements and new features that will make tracking deals even easier.

As the site grows, I’ll continue refining it based on feedback from gamers who use it.

Check Out SideQuestDeals

If you enjoy finding great gaming deals, I’d love for you to check it out and let me know what you think.

Visit SideQuestDeals

If you find a great deal, discover a bug, or have an idea for a feature, feel free to reach out. Feedback from fellow gamers will help shape where SideQuestDeals goes from here.

Happy gaming — and happy deal hunting.

What Is Did I Do That?

Most to-do apps are great at handling things you do every day.
Did I Do That? is different — it’s designed for the things you do occasionally, but absolutely don’t want to forget.

It’s intentionally simple, focused, and built to stay out of your way — until you need it.

Why I Built This App

This app started as a personal problem.

I kept forgetting when I last did important but infrequent tasks, and existing task apps felt too cluttered or overkill for this specific use case. I wanted something lightweight that answered one simple question reliably:

Did I do that already?

So I built it — first for myself, and now for anyone else who’s tired of guessing.

What’s Next?

This initial release focuses on the core experience: tracking, reminders, and clarity. Future updates will be guided by real-world usage and feedback, and I’m excited to continue improving the app over time.

If you have ideas, suggestions, or run into issues, I’d love to hear from you.

What About Android?

Its already been available for a couple of weeks! You can see the post about it here.

Try It Out

If you’re on Android and want to bring a little more peace of mind to your day-to-day life:

Download Did I Do That? on the Apple iOS App Store

Thanks to everyone who helped test, shared feedback, and encouraged me along the way. This is just the beginning

Are you a gamer that likes a good bargain on their games? Me too! After all, who really wants to pay $80 for a game when they don’t have to?

That is the inspiration behind my latest project that I’m giving the readers of Global Geek News a sneak peak of today!

I recently found myself awake at 2:30am with the sudden hit of inspiration for building a service that helps gamers find deals on the games they are interested in or didn’t know they might be interested in. I am one that refuses to pay full price for games so I always wait for sales or if I’m really lucky, for games to be given away for free. And I thought I should create a site to curate deals that others could find helpful too!

My idea quickly took shape in the form of a new subscription site called SideQuestDeals. What is SideQuestDeals? It is a site that aggregates game sales/deals/giveaways from all over the internet so gamers don’t miss a chance to pick up a much anticipated game without having to pay full price for it.

I’m still working on building things but I thought I would share this screenshot of what I have for the homepage so far and some details. For $10/mo or $100/yr (an investment that will pay for itself many times over in the money you save on games plus the free games you get directed to), you will get to see the best deals on some of the most wanted games available. I’m also working on an e-mail list functionality so the deals get delivered straight to your inbox every day in case you don’t want to visit the site every day.

I’m making significant progress so far on getting the site up and running. I’ve still got the cloud end of things to get set up, but hopefully that won’t take forever!

Stay tuned and I will let you all know when it launches!

When it comes to Kleenex / tissue boxes, I know a lot of people like to decorate them to match their decor for the room. For a couple of years, I had a cover on mine that looked like a Denver Broncos themed couch since the living room was largely Broncos themed. But since my ex left and took the Broncos stuff with her (most of it was hers anyway including the tissue box cover), I haven’t had anything to make my Kleenex box blend in with the room which now has more of a gaming theme, but this SNES Controller tissue box would go perfect in the room!

I was on the Global Geek News Facebook page sharing the link from my post about Did I Do That? launching on Android when I saw this post in the news feed in the Super Nintendo Nostalgia group. This was created and shared by Neal Lehman. He created and 3D printed this awesome SNES controller tissue box that made a lot of Nintendo loving gamers jealous, myself included! And apparently he has made a NES controller one too but didn’t post pictures of it.

If I had a 3D printer, I would be wishing he had posted the files to download and print this for my own living room. This might just be the coolest tissue box cover I’ve ever seen!

Do you have a cool cover on your Kleenex / tissue box? If so, I’d love to see pictures in the comments below!

If so, you’re not alone — and that exact frustration is why I built Did I Do That?

After weeks of development, testing, and feedback from early users, I’m excited to announce that Did I Do That? is officially available on the Google Play Store

What Is Did I Do That?

Most to-do apps are great at handling things you do every day.
Did I Do That? is different — it’s designed for the things you do occasionally, but absolutely don’t want to forget.

Examples include:

Changing HVAC or furnace filters

Instead of guessing or digging through notes, Did I Do That? gives you a clear answer in seconds.

What the App Helps You Do

With Did I Do That?, you can:

Track infrequent or recurring tasks

Record the last time something was completed

Set reminders based on real-world schedules (monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc.)

Reduce mental clutter and avoid costly or inconvenient oversights

What About iOS?

Its coming! I’m testing it right now and hope to have it available in the Apple App Store soon! Stay tuned for updates!

Try It Out

If you’re on Android and want to bring a little more peace of mind to your day-to-day life:

Download Did I Do That? on the Google Play Store

Thanks to everyone who helped test, shared feedback, and encouraged me along the way. This is just the beginning

Its been way too long since I have posted something geeky that I found that just had to be shared with you all. For like the last 7 months, I have been posting things that I have done or are doing or wanted help and opinions on. And I think its time to get back to the roots of Global Geek News. And that starts today! I bring you a Klingon Elsa singing “Let It Go” in Klingon!

This video appears to have been taken at Emerald City Comic Con. I’m not sure who this woman is that so brilliantly sings “Let It Go” in Klingon but between the costume and the performance, she did an amazing job! I can only imagine the effort that went into not only translating the song but learning to sing it as well.

I’ve posted a couple of Klingon song videos in the past (Kiss Me by Six Pence Non The Richer and Rent performed in Klingon) and those were also amazing but somehow those posts have broken over the years so I won’t bother linking to them (you can still google for them and find them though which I highly recommend).

If you know of other songs performed in Klingon, let me know in the comments below!

Share this with any Star Trek and Frozen fans you know!

After working through burnout after losing my job back in November, I’m at a point where I’m starting to get the itch to build things again. My latest vibe coded project is a web app called StarGaze Weather that is meant to give you the hourly conditions for your location to let you know if its good weather for stargazing or not.

As anybody that has followed Global Geek News knows, astrophotography is one of my hobbies so I am always wondering if the weather is going to be nice enough for me to spend an evening in my observatory. I used to use an Android app that would give me all the information I could want regarding the weather conditions for the night but then it went to a subscription model and I avoid subscriptions of any sort if possible, so I decided I’d just write my own app.

So Friday afternoon, armed with an an app idea, Visual Studio Code and a GitHub Copilot subscription, I set out to create the perfect stargaze conditions app that I decided to call StarGaze Weather. What exactly is it and what does it show you? I’m glad you asked!

As you can see in the screenshot, it is a web app that can take your location which you can either type in the text box or hit the push pin next to it and be prompted to give the app your location based on your device’s location (if you are lazy like me and don’t want to type your location in) and then with a location selected, it brings up various data related to the weather conditions including an hourly forecast which shows the cloud cover percentage, humidity, wind and more. It also tells you the different times of night, the moon’s current illumination and an overall summary for if its good to spend the evening out stargazing or not. And it does it for a 3 day forecast. Oh, and it even has light/dark mode!

With the features out of the way, lets talk about the technical side of things for a bit. This web app is a .NET C# Blazor WASM application hosted on GitHub Pages (yay for free hosting!). I used the Claude Opus 4.5 model to first draft a project requirements document and an instructions file to give the LLM some guardrails and after it came up with those, I turned it loose and less than a half an hour later, the app was done! I have to say, it really is mind blowing just how good Opus 4.5 is for vibe coding! It may be expensive in terms of requests but when it one shots an entire project, you don’t really have to worry about it using a ton of premium requests! As for where the weather data comes from, it is coming from WeatherApi.com. I will say that I’m not terribly impressed with the weather data its given me for my location but I figure I’ll give it a little time to see if it gets better before I decide to switch it to a different weather data provider. I’d be curious to know how it does with the weather in your location so let me know in the comments below how it compares to what you are really seeing!

I haven’t looked too closely at the code yet (that is my plan over the next couple of days), so don’t judge it too harshly, but if you want to check out the code, here is the StarGaze Weather repository on GitHub.

If you are an amateur astronomer like myself, let me know if you find this useful and if there are any feature requests you have and I might continue to build more onto the application in the future.

May your skies be clear!

I’ve got an idea running around in my mind and I would like to solicit some opinions from my fellow tech enthusiasts.

As part of my goal to be less isolated, I’ve taken to occasionally going to Starbucks and taking my MacBook Air and working from there on their wifi so that I’m not just stuck in the house all the time. However, my 13″ MacBook Air screen is rather cramped for coding, especially when working with Copilot in VS Code. Solution? VR!

I have a Meta Quest 3 VR headset and I use the Immersed VR application that allows me to have multiple virtual desktops in VR so I can essentially have a multi-monitor setup anywhere I go. Being able to have a multi-monitor setup when doing software development work is a lifesaver, so being able to take that wherever I go is great!

So here is my question that I am looking for opinions on: Is it acceptable to be wearing a VR headset while sitting in Starbucks to be more productive? What would you think if you saw someone sitting at a table working with a VR headset on? Have you ever done it? I want to know!

Let me know in the comments below or message me on any of my socials linked below to let me know what you think!
