Some people are picky when it comes to making friends. You have to have a good financial background in order to ‘roll’ with them. Things like labels, gadgets, etc. are by far the greatest priorities. Like they say, first impressions count the most. What happened to choosing character over money? Does this go back to the saying, “You are the sum of the 5 people you spend most of your time with”? Are we so afraid that associating ourselves with people from a lower class will somewhat degrade us?

I wrote a letter to my own self the other day trying to figure out what brought about the friends that I have. Friendships, from my own point of view, are largely based around how people make you feel. It is those shared laughs, being together through those tough periods when you lost your loved one that matter the most. That sense of care and character they lavish you with. Friends are those people who stand by you when the whole world turns a blind eye.

Something this precious takes a lot of effort to build but can simply be destroyed overnight. It can be ruined by the one thing I believe most people are afraid to talk about, MONEY! I, on the other hand, am prepared to tell it like it is.

Friend is Richer Than You

When you’re caught up in a situation pretty much like this, chances are there’ll be a lot of envy and jealousy between the two of you. This is not good at all, especially for the relationship. They drive a brand new Mercedes, live in one of the most expensive suburbs around your neighbourhood and often go on those vacations almost every 3 months. You, on the other hand, drive that 11 year old Nissan and live in a 2 room apartment. Are there any chances that you might possibly stay friends?

You’re Richer Than Your Friend

Half of the time your friend goes through a financial crisis and this may interfere with your social activities. Say for instance s/he doesn’t have enough to go to Gold Reef City with the rest of you that weekend and you do not offer to help, does that make you so much of a bad friend? The friend suddenly feels like an outcast due to insufficient funds. You feel like you’re held back because now you have to be considerate and try to come up with something that’ll accommodate your friend. Can you still be friends? Forever?

I still don’t see why financial wealth should have so much of an impact on friendships. Yes, this may limit the hobbies and activities you participate in but doesn’t remove their ability to be there as your trusted buddies.

So, are you one of those that are caught up in such a situation? If so, how has the experience been? Does it bother you, perhaps?

Last night the Mexicans crushed the 1998 world champions, France, 2-0. In order for Bafana Bafana to have a chance of making it to the last 16, they have to defeat the French by at least 4-0 as well as wish for a Uruguayan win against Mexico. Why 4-0? This is because of the goal difference. Mexico and Uruguay are both sitting on 3 goals each, with Bafana and France at 1 and 0, respectively. This is nearly impossible and you know it. Of course I’ll watch the game next Tuesday, but clearly it’ll be our last in this tournament. I mean, even if we do score those 4 goals, if Uruguay and Mexico play to a draw, they both make it to the last 16. Why? Because they’ll then be sitting on 5 points each, with South Africa on 4 (WHEN they’ve won against France, hehe! ;-)).

It has been an interesting world cup nonetheless, with a lot of surprises. I still hope that this world cup will remain in the African continent. Having said that, I will continue to support 6 pack, but I say Côte d’Ivoire will make us proud. They rank 27th in the world (Soccernet). I think they played exceptionally well against Portugal.

A watch, or a pair of winter slippers, maybe? Better yet, a pair with his favourite football team on ’em?

I for one usually get confused when this day approaches. I sometimes think to myself, how about getting him a pink t-shirt and tie? That would look awesome on an old taimer, don’t you think?

Okay! Maybe NOT! And NO, that is NOT my daddy, :-P!

What else can one come up with? Does he drink alcohol? How would he feel if you were to buy him a case of his favourite, be it beer, brandy, whisky, etc.? Do you think he’d say “Thank you my son/daughter”, or would he think you perceive him as a dipsomaniac?

It’s super cold now. Instead of those drinks, how about giving him something that’ll keep him warm this winter? I’m not talking about hot chocolate or rooibos. What about a jacket?

I really don’t know. What are you going to get your dad this Father’s day?

In what I hoped could have been a win after a disappointing draw against Dos Santos’ Mexican team, it all turned into an even greater disappointment for Bafana Bafana all thanks to the Uruguay and Atletico Madrid striker, Diego Forlan . At this point in time, that draw against Mexico excites me beyond any reasonable doubt.

Carlos Alberto Parreira, Bafana Bafana coach, says that he blames the referee for the loss. “He was very unfair to our team and I hope we don’t see his face any more at this tournament because he does not deserve to be here.” (IOL)

Not only did we suffer a 3-0 defeat, but we had our goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, sent off after a ‘professional foul’ on Luis Suarez, awarding the Uruguayans a penalty. Second-choice keeper, Moneeb Josephs, was beaten after Forlan thundered one in from the spot kick – his second goal of the game. Alvaro Pereira hammered the final nail into the coffin of a demoralised South African outfit with a header that found the back of the net in the final minute of injury time.

Not so much of a great performance from Siphiwe Tshabalala this time around for me. Of course he scored an awesome goal in the opening match against the Mexicans but he was so immature and wanted personal glory hence he took aimless shots at goal when he could have shared the ball. Teko Modise was no better, neither was Aron Mokoena. In our next match against the French next week in Bloemfontein, I would like to see Booth in the starting 11.

I must say that the one thing that consoles me though is that Spain lost to the Swiss, hehe! The only problem however is that Spain have a game in hand – they have an even greater chance of pulling one back against either Chile or the Honduras. As for us, it’s going to be an uphill battle having to be playing against the likes of Patrice Viera and Thierry Henry to name a few.

“As the hosts, after all the support we’ve had, we have a moral obligation to play our best against France. We have to put our heads down and fight to the very end”, said Parreira.

As I sat and watched tv around noon in Hursthill, a couple of minutes away from the Sabc building, I couldn’t help but hear the loud sound of the vuvuzelas that were being played outside. South Africans had come out in numbers to support Bafana Bafana – Have a look at this mayhem!

Tk and Vusi, South African superfans, teach Virgin founder, Richard Branson, how to play the Vuvuzela. As a result, he managed to squeeze in “God Save the Queen”.

The story opens with the revelation that Seattle, Washington is being plagued by a string of unsolved murders, which Edward suspects is caused by a new vampire that is unable to control its thirst for human blood. As Edward and Bella apply to colleges, Bella explains to Edward her desire to see her friend, Jacob Black, a werewolf. Although Edward fears for her safety, Bella insists that neither Jacob nor his wolf pack would ever harm her, and she begins visiting him occasionally. Meanwhile, Alice Cullen has a vision that Victoria, a vampire who is hunting Bella for revenge, has returned to Forks. A few days later, Edward proposes to Bella and, despite harboring an aversion to marriage, she accepts.

Bella and the Cullens soon realize that the Seattle murders are being committed by an “army” of newborn vampires, controlled by Victoria. The Cullens join forces with the wolf pack to combat this threat. As everyone else prepares for battle, Edward, Bella, and Jacob camp in the mountains, hidden during the battle, where they are later joined by Seth Clearwater, a young wolf pack member, to wait out the fight.

In the morning, Jacob becomes upset when he overhears Edward and Bella discussing their engagement and threatens to join the fight and get himself killed. To stop him, Bella kisses Jacob and comes to realize that she is in love with him as well. During the battle, Victoria tracks Edward’s scent to Bella’s forest hiding place, and Edward is forced to fight. After Victoria and her army are successfully destroyed, Bella explains to Jacob that while she loves him, her love for Edward is greater. After receiving a wedding invitation from Edward, Jacob runs away in his wolf form to escape his heartbreak over Bella’s decision to become a vampire.(wikipedia)
