Well Well... Eten came up with something new and exciting. A chance to become GPU (Golden Power User - I think this is a part of Asian business culture, if something does not have Golden, Star or Dragon in it's name it will not work). New Glofiish models, M810 and M750 officially announced

Finally, M750 and M810 are offically announced by E-ten!

E-ten calls these models "fun" Pocket PCs "that put the focus on portable entertainment, dynamic social
networking, and go-anywhere communications ideal for the web 2.0
generation."

I believe that the amount of the buzzwords in the official announcement is way to high and I really hope that E-ten can deliver this time and will not make all of it's true believers suffer waiting for new models.

PIM Backup: A great little tool to backup your contacts, SMS messages

I used to use simple Outlook Synchronization to backup all my contact information, tasks and calendar before making ROM upgrade on my X500, it was easy but missed some nice features like SMS backup, which is important. When I moved to Linux one task I did not manage to do is to make Multisync work with my Glofiish so I was stuck and could not do any working backup (the software provided by Eten sometimes did not work for me and once left me without all my contact information after upgrade).

Today I found a little free utility, which is doing a great job in backing up all PIM onfo, including SMS and even Call logs and Speed Dial list. This nice little tool has an obvious name: PIM Backup and can be downloaded from author page.

New ROM released for Glofiish X500 & M700, at the moment in Russian only.

X500 and M700 had no ROM updates since the initial release of WM6 version in May 2007, and this ROM had a number of issues addressed in some home-made ROM versions. Now Eten Corp has finally released and official updated version of it, fixing some old issues like disappearing POP3 boxes and PIN codes, but at the moment I could only find it in Russian language, here are the links:

E-ten @ Cebit 2008

One of the biggest surprises I got from Cebit 2008 was the E-ten stand, where actually nothing was displayed! I've asked a person who was where if this was related to ACER buying E-ten, but he replied it was not. Here are some pics:

But as you can see from this article there were some phones displayed before Cebit opened, so I wonder what has really happened? If you have any idea, please let me know!

Future of Mobile Computing - Nokia Morph

Nokia always was good in making amazing prototypes of future products and when I saw this video at th Mobile&Wireless Summit in Chicago on Tuesday, I was amazed! I really want a device like this! I mean NOW! :-)

One of the questions that was asked by attendees is what would be the price tag for a device like this, and the answer from Nokia guy was to the point: How much are you ready to pay for a device like this?". Take a look at the video and please comment how much are you really ready to pay for this.

Some nice people actually did go to 3GSM and made a video of the new Glofiish V900. Take a look at the new interface, it looks really nice, but, as you will see, still lacks stability. Hope this will be fixed by the time device is released!

Glofiish M810 - First Pics

Eten has revealed Glofiish M810 at the 3GSM in Barcelona. M810 is a new PDA Phone with same specs as M800, except for the screen: it has QVGA (320x240) and not VGA (640x480) like M800.

8 New Glofiish Models for 2008

E-ten Corp. promised to introduce 8 new models in 2008, for some of them we already know the names: V900, M810 and M750. We already wrote about V900 and its Digital TV functions earlier and some pics are available online.

Wec ould not find any pics of M810/M750 phones, just some basic info that these will be same-looking phones, M810 with 3G HSDPA capabilities and the M750 without. They will feature a full keyboard, java, 2MP camera and some software tools designed for bloggers for easy upload of pics and videos to the web.

All mentioned models will be presented at the 3GSM conference in Barcelona next week.

Glofiish will be showing it's new model V900 at the 3GSM congress in Barcelona in February. This device will feature a fast 667Mhz Samsung processor, TV tuner, and according to the info from Eten will be released in Q2 2008, before the European Football Cup, so you can enjoy the games on it. As the primary market for all Glofiish models is Russia, I wonder if this device was designed after Russian team got into the final tournament, leaving team of England outside of it. M800 delayed again.

After some reports of chipping paint on M800, Eten has delayed shippings to February 22, accoring to Eten Webshop and Expansys). I hope you were not among those ordering your M800 from the be belgian webshop and I really do not understand how they got hold of these M800. I really hope that this delay means that we will get the final version of M800 problem-free and with a working ROM which will not need weekly flashing, as it used to be with X500 and older models.

Glofiish V900 is the newest development form E-Ten, it will be presented in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress (3GSM) congress next month (February 11-14 2008). This mobile device will feature DVB-H and T-DMB and also terrestrial TV via DVB-T, and digital radio over DAB. The heart of V900 is Samsung 667MHz processor and it will be able to use 128MB of RAM.

How To Share Internet from Glofiish over WiFi

With wider spread of 3G it will be more and more important to be able to share this high-speed data caonnection from your PDA to your Notebook or even Desktop (if you happen to travel with one :-). Till recent times it was only possible to do it with some hard handwork fixing the registry, but now you cab easily do it with the help of a very nice piece of software named WMWifiRouter.

Required files

Update procedure:
Please update X800 OS version 402 first, then update 3G Firmware Update
Normal operation items:

OS Update:

Make sure use PC with XP system (better with service pack2) or Vista for OS updating.
Disable all kind of firewall before OS updating.
Be sure your PC or laptop already installed ActiveSync 4.5 or above version
Be sure the USB cable is properly connected between PC and Cradle.
Connect X800 and your PC via USB cable and be sure the ActiveSync is activated with GREEN sign.
If Activesync is hard to connect, you can go start/setting/connection/ USB to PC and disable the “advanced network functionality”, then Activesync would be easily connecting.
Please backup all necessary data on PC side before OS updating process.
Be sure the power adapter is properly connection during the updating process.
Run EUU file and following the instructions show on screen to complete OS updating.

3G Firmware Update

Extract the file “ModemUpdater_FC3301_CA.zip”
Copy ModemUpdater_FC3301_CA.exe to your X800
Double click ModemUpdater_FC3301_CA.exe
Follow on-screen instruction to complete the update.
Reset X800.
Go to Start > Settings > System > System Information > Wireless Module > GSM/GPRS > Firmware Version The correct version should be R3BEC31ACL_V1.01CA
If the above version is incorrect, please repeat the above steps to update again.

Another phone from Glofiish is coming: X650

FCC has just approved new Glofiish model: X650. According to the users manual the only difference with X600 is color and an FM Transmitter, so you can send its sound output to any radio tuned to the right frequency.

I personally like the idea of FM Transmitter as it solves the sound transfer to the car stereo easily.
