Adding Romantic Touches To My Home

Look what my daughter made me for Christmas y'all! Aren't they sweet and romantic too?

They are doubly romantic because they were made out of a wedding dress.

Just look at the little pearl beads on the detail. They are so soft and so pretty. They really look great on my Robin's egg blue leather couch. They really give the room a dreamy soft touch.

The little pillow is reversible It has ruffles on one side and gorgeous jewels on the other.

I think they are breathtaking. I also love the idea of finding such a beautiful way to remember a wedding day and upcycling a gorgeous wedding dress. They are just perfect for adding a dreamy romantic touch to a room especially at such a romantic time of year as Valentine's Day. I would love to hear how you make your home more romantic for Valentine's?

Sweet Little Things

I have determined that I want to celebrate the little things as well as the large. If we don't pay close enough attention, then it is very easy to miss some of our blessings. So many of us are so very blessed with sweet little things all around us and yet we don't notice them and so we may be tempted to think we aren't blessed. If we count all the sweet little things then I believe we might just change our minds. As a man thinks in his heart so is he (Proverbs 27:3). I have decided that I am blessed and I thought I would share a couple of sweet little things that I was blessed with in my stocking this year. This is a little booklet of Paris Sticky notes and I think it is a very sweet little thing.

My favorite part is that there are several styles and 2 different sizes. Isn't that sweet? I really like the illustrations and the colors. These notes are so sweet that they are almost too sweet to use. Just almost though! Won't they be a sweet blessing when I want to mark a place or write a little note somewhere?

Have you noticed that there are owls everywhere? Me too! It brings back memories of my childhood when I see them. Can you guess what this little guy holds? It is so sweet just by itself but there is more...

It is strawberry lip balm in a little owl container. Isn't it sweet? What a blessing!

Best of all, I actually like the lip balm. Don't you agree these are sweet little things? I hope you will look around and find the sweet little things around you that are blessings. I promise if you look really hard then you will see them and we can celebrate the sweet little things together.

Have you noticed how the world has gone cupcake crazy? I am seeing cupcakes everywhere. Who can blame them? Cupcakes are really yummy. I am seeing cupcakes of every kind imaginable. Should I...Should I Not...Should I...Should I Not?

There are changes coming...

I have reached one of those places in my life when I need to look at things and decide what needs to change so that I can reach the goals I have set in my life. It isn't so much New Year's resolutions for me because they are things that have been stirring for some time and some of them have already been set on their course. Some of the other things will soon be set into their course as well. I have spent some time observing how things work or don't work and the decisions have been made. I am about to do some drastic cleaning out of things that are no longer working for me. A few of those changes are probably going to be displeasing to a few people around me but there are others that will please them much. A couple of changes are even a little scary for me but I am going to take a deep breath and be brave and see it through because the end results are so very important. Some of those changes are a simple change in perspective...such as enjoying the individual flowers as well as the flower patch.

After The Party

We had our annual Christmas party a few nights ago...

I changed up my decorations this year

I decided to liven it up with some bright colors

My friend Sarah helped me with my flowers

I had hoped to get some pictures while the party was going on but...

People started coming and I completely forgot.

My friend Jo helped me with the food and it was great as usual.

I love all the decorating, the food and everything, but the guests are my absolute favorite part.

I love visiting with people and getting to know them a bit more.

I especially love if I get the opportunity to encourage them in any way. My favorite part of encouraging others is seeing that look of hope and possibility enter their eyes (it makes my heart sing!)

For me that look is cause for celebration because then I know that they can go forward and see where life takes them, knowing they can make it another day.

If any of you ever need encouragement please know that I am always willing to give it. I am one of those people who can always see possibility (that is why my dear hubby has to shop for homes first before showing me). I am the very same way with people. There is always possibility and always a great and wonderful God-given destiny that I hope I can help them see and take hold of. I hope you are having a wonderful Christmas season!

Christmas Time Decorating

I bet all of you are busy getting your houses decorated and ready for Christmas!

I have tangled lights, glitter dust, piles of Christmas greenery, and out of place Christmas decorations everywhere. There are moments when I wonder if I will get it all done but I soon remember that I always do and it is always so beautiful and worth it because I love to spend time with the Lord enjoying all the beautiful lights and Christmas glitz that abounds around me in His honor.

Hello There

Hello there. I promise I am still here. I haven't quit on you, although it may seem so. I have been preparing for a mission trip to Africa. We will be leaving very soon and so I have been spending extra time in preparation for that. Moving Out Junk

I know it has been a bit since you heard from me. I promise I am still here. I have just not had much to say. I was busy last week opening an antique and junk booth in an antique mall. My was that a lot of work. This week I have been busy going through cabinets and closets and such pulling out all the things that I don't use anymore so that I can put them down at our booth. The time seems right somehow to let go of some old things that I have been hanging on to. It has been that way also concerning some old ways of thinking and doing. I just sense it is time to let go of them so that I can step into the new things that God has for me. I am not certain what those new things are yet but I know it will be good. In the mean time, I am cleaning and clearing out. I am also in the middle of ripping down some ugly wallpaper that I have been meaning to change since we got this house 8 years ago. Sigh...that is such a job sometimes...I wish it would go a bit quicker...or that I could stay on the project better than I have. It seems just as I get going back on it again that I have something else come up. Maybe soon I will get it finished (I hope, lol.)

Dreaming

I am so thankful for our air conditioner, cool showers, our ice maker, ice cold drinks, Popsicles, and the old timey fan blowing cool air across my face. What are you dreaming of? Beautiful New Mexico Mountains

I thought I would share a little bit of our trip to Red River, New Mexico with you...It was so beautiful and best of all it was cool. We really needed a respite from the heat of Texas this year. Did I mention that it has been very hot in Texas? It has been so hot that it had begun to have a negative effect on our attitudes so it was so nice to get away from it all and go somewhere cool.

The sky was gorgeous

The mountains were awe inspiring

The wildflowers were beautiful

They were everywhere

The ponds were charming with all the flowers blooming everywhere

The creeks were full of water (unlike Texas right now)

The air was filled with the scent of pine, fir, and spruce trees.

The lakes were filled with trout

Fishermen were out trying to catch those trout

So were the critters

Everything was beautiful...

Did you enjoy that? I certainly did. I am ready to go back. In fact, I wasn't ready to leave but alas, real life has to go on. I won't kid you though, I did consider moving to Red River for just a moment. Dreams are nice sometimes. That one was especially nice...I can still smell the pine trees and hear the rustle of the aspen leaves...mmmmmmmm I'm dreaming of going back again very soon.

I can then organize each picture (or pin) into theme boards. So cool, so fun, so amazing.

Texas Wildfires Raging!

Please pray for Texas! There is a huge fire raging uncontrolled near my hometown. It has burned for several days. The firefighters are growing weary and running out of resources. To make matters worse the wind is howling tonight. There are several more fires burning all across our beautiful state.

Man Pleasin' Tortellini Soup

This is a recipe that I always get compliments on especially from the men who eat it. It is a thick and hearty soup that fills you up. A very good choice for a cold winter day.

Fry the hamburger or Italian sausage until brown.

Be sure to break up the larger chunks of meat.

Meatballs can be substituted if desired.

Add chopped onion, green pepper, and shredded cabbage. Cook until meat is browned and vegetables are cooked.

Drain well. Add seasonings, broth, water, tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, dry soup mix, tortellini, and Parmesan cheese.

Cook and simmer until the tortellini burst open. Serve while hot.

Man Pleasin' Tortellini Soup

1/2 to 1 lb Italian Sausage, hamburger, or meatballs

1/2 lb shredded cabbage. Tip: (pkg of coleslaw mix can be used to save time)

1 Sm green pepper

1 Sm onion

2 Cans Beef Broth

4 C Water (or more as desired)

9 oz dried tortellini (frozen may be substituted.)

1 lg can chopped tomatoes

1 lg can or jar Spaghetti Sauce

2 pkg dried onion soup mix

1/8 C grated Parmesan cheese

1/2 t basil

1 t garlic

salt & pepper

Brown meat, add onion, pepper, and cabbage as meat is browning. Cook until meat is completely browned and vegetables are cooked. Drain well. Add rest of ingredients. Cook until tortellini burst open. Serve while hot. Enjoy!

It's All About The Heart

It is Valentine's Day today which has me thinking about hearts.

Everywhere I look I seem to be finding hearts.

Some of those hearts are doing the right things but not with the right motives so it causes them to be a bit unclean

Some of those hearts have the appearance of beauty, but if you look closer, they are caught in a web of deception

Light can be seen through some of those hearts but because of mixture they can release only dark light.

Some of those hearts are so caught up by people or things they adore that they can not truly fly free as intended.

Then there are those hearts that are dinged up and a bit wounded. No matter what those hearts are like, I just can not help but love them. It is because I know...

That those hearts can be made perfect if they are filled with Love. It has to be a special kind of love though. That kind that is more than a feeling, more than an act. It is the Love that is a person (1John 4:16). I also know...

That He can bring those hearts together and that when they are "in one accord" then He can do beautiful things through them.

A Dreamy Vision

Do you ever have an idea of how something will be? A dreamy vision of perfection?

Do you plan it out, spending time working out every perfect detail in your mind?

Then, when you finally begin to realize that longed for moment; does it look more like this? Are things just not what you thought they would be? Or maybe things don't look so bad until you look a bit closer...and then you realize...

the part you thought would be the very best is broken or messed up. Does this cause you to wonder why the bad seems to always come your way? Have you ever looked at the lives of others and wondered why them and not me or maybe you feel like giving up?

Let me share a little secret with you...life is not perfect...there are always going to be trials and challenges and even mess ups. We all have them. The difference between those who seem to have things work out for them and those who do not is their reaction. When those trials come we can let it wound us and take us down or we can let it be our stepping stone up. I am not talking about just positive thinking. I am talking about learning to enjoy the process rather than just the outcome. I am also speaking about seeing each challenge as an opportunity. When I went to gather eggs I was anticipating perfect, beautiful colored eggs in a pretty basket. What I found was a chicken pen that was muddy, eggs everywhere but in the laying box and covered in mud (and whatever)...instead of letting it get me down I saw it as an opportunity to spend some time with my beloved hens and roosters. The more time I spend with them the more tame they will be and they can learn to trust me. I was thankful for such a nice day to gather, The mud meant that our drought was over and Spring is one day closer. I don't mind washing those eggs because they look so pretty on my counter drying on a pretty dish towel. That broken egg became a snack for my kitties who thoroughly enjoyed it and their fur will be very soft and shiny because of all the broken eggs they eat.

Look at how beautiful the outcome is too. Now, I appreciate it even more because I realize there were a few challenges that had to be overcome. I also have memories that are happy to remember simply because I chose to enjoy the process rather than mumble and grumble. This works even in times of great stress (I know because I have tried it then too) I have done it both ways and I have decided that I prefer to find the blessings hidden for me everywhere in every situation, if I will just look for them.

Have You Ever Noticed?

Have you ever noticed how the wind can blow the snow into drifted lines? Some of them can be little tiny drifts and others can be bigger than a house.

Have you ever noticed how the snow makes a thick fluffy blanket in some places and just a light powder sugar dusting in others, and then leave some places untouched? I wonder if God told it to go here and not there?

Have you ever noticed how the snow will completely encase a large barren bush, making it look like a beautiful work of art?

Have you ever noticed how spooky the wind can sound when a large snowstorm is howling or how much a warm fire in the fireplace brings reassurance that everything will be alright? Have you ever noticed the beautiful patterns the snow will make in unexpected places...

or how sometimes the snow will land on each tiny leaf of the trees making the whole world seem like a wonderland? Have you ever noticed snowflakes frozen to your window almost as if God put them there as a little gift just for you? He does that, you know.

I know the snow can sometimes be frustrating, depressing, and really really cold but I hope you will take the time and notice the beautiful blessings that God has put everywhere.

What a year!

Whew! We have not finished January yet and it has already been quite a year. Some of you may already know that I lost a beloved Aunt the day after Christmas. That was a bit of a shock and brought much sadness to our family. We were not able to mourn and stop as would be expected. We had to kick into action because my Aunt lived in a rented home, which meant that we had to take care of all her things quickly. She was quite the collector and she along with my grandparents before their deaths had lived in that house for around 40 years or so. You can imagine the job that lay ahead.

My mother and her two brothers and all their spouses stayed there for about 3 weeks sorting, and packing and donating, and getting ready for a large estate sale. I went down for the days of the sale to help them out. It was a very bittersweet time for us. We enjoyed the time together so much and yet it was still sad. It really hit me hard when they began to load my grandmother's dining room furniture. That was pretty much the last thing to go and I realized we would never meet at her house again. So many years, so many memories...yes, I wept (but it wasn't hormones this time). I wept in mourning for my aunt, my grandparents, and all the days with my family. I also wept because we had missed so many as well. It seems that our families have all become so busy and scattered across the country that we were not meeting together much anymore. How did we let that happen? I am determined to change that if I can. I love my family and I want to be closer to them. Hopefully this year we can take steps to make that happen.

This is an oil painting that has hung in my Grandparent's and Aunt's home as long as I can remember. No one in the family had claimed it and it was going into the sale. I just couldn't bear to see it go out of the family. (I was that way about lots of things) I was quite the salesman. Not actually selling things but calling my family or talking to the members present and convincing them to take one item or another. We don't have one of those greedy kinds of families that are all about grabbing what they can and fighting over anything. Instead, they thought about each item carefully and tried to determine if they truly had a place for it or need for it in their homes. Thankfully, I was able to talk them into taking some things for their kids to have in their homes. I brought this painting and another one home. I had at first declined (thinking I didn't have the wall space for it) but then I began to think of a perfect spot for it. I hung it over my own chair and moved a smaller portrait of my Great Aunt to another place. I am so glad I changed my mind. We did actually sell quite a lot. It was fun seeing people buy things that they would enjoy. It makes me feel good to know that all those beautiful things found homes where they will bless their new owners.

I hope you will draw closer to your family if possible. It is so easy to become scattered and separated. I know how families can be. All families have their funny quirks, and warts, and ugly, but there are beautiful things that we can embrace too. I know it can be hard sometimes but look closer. Find the lovely and the good things in your family and celebrate them. Until Next Time.

Forgiveness is Life

Have you ever had someone do you wrong? Maybe it was betrayal, or deception, or harm, or even gossip? At some point in our lives we have all been wronged. It happens to all of us...It does not matter how perfect a person's life may seem from the outside, I can assure you that they have been wronged at least once and in some instances they may have been wronged many times. What should we do when that happens?

I have lived through betrayal, and many instances of being wronged. Pretty much everything on the list above and more. I am not sure exactly why but I have my theory about why (that is for another day). There have been times when someone did me wrong and it did harm to my family too. That can really get a Mama upset. There have been a few times even when the person who wronged me was not sorry and then there were other times when they were. One thing about being wronged that I have learned is that there are many ways it can happen. It can be intentional, unintentional, and lots of things in between. Because I have had so much practice being the one wronged and being the one who wronged, I have learned some really valuable lessons. The most valuable lesson is hands down, forgiveness. I have learned to give it because there have been so many times when I needed it myself. Forgiveness doesn't say "It is OK that you hurt me" but rather, "you hurt me but I choose to forgive you." When I was unable to forgive I found out that I became captive to the effects of being wronged. It caused negative feelings, and reactions in me that became like being on a horrible treadmill of negative emotions. I went through them over and over and over. When I was finally able to forgive it released me from that terrible treadmill. It allowed me to find joy, and hope again. Forgiveness...that word is sweet to my ears. "I forgive you." Try those words out sometime. You will see what I mean when I say they are sweet words. They will bring sweetness and life back into your life because if we don't forgive then we become bitter. Bitterness brings death and anger, and depression. Who wants to live with those over and over? I have decided to choose life. For me, forgiveness is a key that opens a door to life.

Ready for the New Year

2010 has been a difficult year for me. When I look back over the year, I realize there have been many sad and tearful days...

There were days of joy and laughter but so many with tears...It has ended with tears because of the loss of a dear family member...It is in times like this that I am thankful for my Heavenly Father. I just don't know if I could make it without His big lap to crawl into and cry, or without his tender loving voice to tell me things will be OK again some day.

It is because of Him that I can keep going on. He gives me hope for the new year. Hope that days ahead will bring smiles and laughter again. Hope for happy times and cherished moments with loved ones. He also gives me strength to rise up and battle the enemy one more day...one more battle...one more year...because in the end I know we will have victory. As we head into this new year of 2011, I rise up again with hope in Him.
