This sermon is one of the best I have ever heard, and certainly has been a big motivator in Chris’ life for sharing the Lord with those around us. Sick

Have you ever had to admit that you were sick? I know that there are famous sports players who often will persist in finishing their game even though they are sick. Some of us try to hide the fact that we are somehow injured or wounded so as to appear stronger than what we really are. But the fact of the matter is that each and every last one of us is damaged goods. We have all fallen short of the glory of God.

The most common reaction we’ve had to making a statement like that is something along the lines of, “don’t judge me!” But I’m here to say that it is the Bible itself that condemns us. Jesus clearly said that we were all sinners – but we don’t have to stay that way. We don’t have to remain sinners in the eyes of a holy God. Instead, we can admit our sin, turn from it and follow after Jesus. But that take commitment. It’s not as easy as just praying a prayer (though that is a good first step). It means total surrender. God loves you too much to only want a part of you. He wants it all.

In this episode of the Glowing Nose Podcast, Chris Staron talks straight from the heart about the fact that we’re all damaged goods in some respect. But there is hope.

In the Box – Operation Christmas Child

Every year thousands of children receive shoeboxes packed with shoes, toothpaste, notebooks, and other goodies packed by volunteers all around the world. These boxes are delivered to areas in very real need. Operation Christmas Child (a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse) is a worthwhile ministry that we wanted to take a few minutes to support.

In July of 2009, Chris and Nick worked at the Creation NE festival promoting Bringing up Bobby. Their neighboring table was for Operation Christmas Child, where they met Lejla Allison, a woman who received a shoebox as a child.

This ministry relies on the generosity of normal people like you and me. Would you consider spearheading this ministry in your local church? It means contacting the ministry and then hosting a drive at your church or organization where people donate shoeboxes filled with supplies that can then be given to kids around the world along with a gospel tract. Alternative Holidays – Rebroadcast

The debate rages on: how are Christians supposed to react to pagan holidays or holidays with pagan backgrounds? We did some research into the background of two major holidays in the US: Halloween and Christmas. Some of the similarities may surprise you.

The term “Halloween” refers to All Saints Day (a Christian holiday celebrating saints) or All Hallows Day. The night before All Hallows Day was called All Hallows Eve, which later got shortened to Halloween. However, the actual celebrations of modern Halloween (the costumes, the emphasis on evil spirits, treats, etc) were there long before All Saints Day. All Saints Day was moved in order to give Christians a more godly thing to do at the end of October so they did not face the temptation of participating in the pagan celebrations. Today, while most people do not celebrate All Saints Day, many churches in the US do hold Harvest Festivals to thank God for the harvest of that year. Some people are opposed to that because it draws attention to the pagan beginnings of the holiday.

At the same time, many of those people don’t realize that Christmas, like Harvest Festivals, is an alternative holiday. It is an alternative to a myriad of pagan holidays, some of which are discussed in the podcast. The important note is this: can we disagree with Harvest Festivals and still like Christmas?

This episode of the Glowing Nose podcast struggles with these facts and more. We take a look at what one church is doing as a safe alternative to Halloween when we visit The Tunnel of Doom at Brunswick Reformed Church in Brunswick, Ohio.

Bible Overview – Bible 101

Welcome to Bible 101! During this episode of the Glowing Nose Podcast we look at a number of questions. What is the Bible? How to read the Bible? Where should I start when reading the Bible? How do I get to Heaven? And we create a general overview of the story of the Bible… Glowing Nose style.

In this episode we also recommend something that you’ve heard us say a number of times already: read the Bible in large chunks, entire books. That way you can get the context of what each verse is saying and avoid common mistakes.

You are never too old or young to start reading the Bible. Nobody is too smart or not smart enough. Anybody can understand the basics of the Bible. And we’re here to help.

And we’d love to know how you study the Bible on your own! Do you have a specific prayer time? A study plan? Which books do you revert back to when you need a lift? Fill us in! We may use your answers in future shows.

Prayer Meeting

The film world can sometimes be a lonely place. It often means long hours in small rooms by yourself, working away slowly. So, we wanted to open the doors and invite in the community that has been supporting us and enjoy some time before the Lord together.

So, on October 4th, 2010 at 9pm EST we will be hosting a live video prayer event — and we would love for you to join us! It will be a chance for us all to come together to pray for Christian films around the world, the work of the Lord in general, and anything else (you can send your requests live via a chat function!). It’s also a chance to come together as a community and celebrate the re-release of Bringing up Bobby on DVD. Since we’ve already had a premiere event, we thought that we needed to make this night special as a community of believers.

Mortality and the Mid-Life Crisis

We are all going to die some day. At some point we need to come to grips with this fact of life. For some of us it means having a mid-life crisis. For others, it happens even earlier and we have, what some have termed, a quarter-life crisis.

This episode of the Glowing Nose Podcast (a funny Christian podcast from the creators of the upcoming movie Bringing up Bobby) explores mortality. We even manage to find some good things about mortality! For one thing, it makes us ask the question, “where will I go when I die?”. A great question to ask! The Bible makes it clear: it’s either Heaven or Hell. We are all guilty of breaking God’s commandments — punishable only by death. But if we turn from our sin and trust in Jesus (who died in our place), then we are saved, and Heaven is open to us.

Do you worry about death? One of items discussed in this episode is that death is a part of life — it is it’s fragility that makes life so special. Instead of worrying about your own death, let your knowledge of how special life is get you out and enjoying the time you have on earth. Make sure that you are right with the Lord before you die, and then rest in the knowledge that He has promised you Heaven.
