Adulthood. How do you know that you are an adult? Some of us think that we will never grow up, and others of us feel like we are the ones carrying the load. We’ve noticed that a lot of us do not know what it means to be an adult. In order to do this podcast we talked to several people in their twenties — some married, some single. Some were in college and some had graduated years ago.

So what do you think? When is it that people become adults? Is it when you have children? When you get married? Do you become an adult when you move out? We’d love to get some discussion in from you!

Oh, and as a little plug, the music in this podcast mostly comes from the soundtrack to Bringing up Bobby.

The final installment in our 3-part series on the book of 1 Corinthians. This final wrap-up gives us a chance to talk about divorce, kosher laws, keeping our brothers from stumbling, food sacrificed to idols, and learning from the past. We want to hear how this podcast series has helped or hurt you, challenged you, or annoyed you! Please leave us comments so that we know where to go from here!

This is the second in three parts of our podcast series on 1 Corinthians. We’re following Paul as he continues to write to the church in Corinth (what is now Greece). In this section of our study we are looking at some of the more controversial topics that Paul discusses.

We also want to remind you that we are collecting stories of what you think it means to be an adult, or else, stories of when you have had to be the adult in the room. Please leave those stories with us as a blog comment or by contacting us.

Don’t forget to leave a comment on this page to let us know what you think of this podcast! Be sure, also to check out the new movie made by one of our friends called The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry which is now in select theaters.

Corinth was located in what is today Greece. Though the book was written almost 2,000 years ago, it still has a lot for us to learn within its pages. The first few chapters give us a good look at what the people were struggling with: bickering over their leaders, struggles with idol worship, and much more.

Looking for a good Bible study? Well, we’re hoping to continue this series! If you like it, dislike it, or just want to give some feedback, be sure to leave us a comment! Please also help us out and spread the word to your friends and family who are looking for a funny Christian podcast.

This episode of the Glowing Nose Podcast takes a look at a subject that is very close to our hearts: is piracy wrong? As always, we would love to hear your thoughts on the subject. Sales of our movies have decreased over the years, which has made it very difficult just to keep the business operating — even though we are not able to pay ourselves. File sharing and bit-torrent sites have been knocking our legs out from under us.

As filmmakers, we are approached all of the time by people who have seen the movie in some illegal way. Some see it online, others host screenings at their churches but do not pay the screening license, and still others get burned copies from a friend. A little more on a grey side — what about people who tape programs off of the television? What do you think about these trends? They are clearly taking possession of something that they did not pay for. The Bible leaves no breathing room for stealing. So what stance will you take?

In July of 2009, Chris and Nick worked at the Creation NE festival promoting Bringing up Bobby. Their neighboring table was for Operation Christmas Child, where they met Lejla Allison, a woman who received a shoebox as a child.

This ministry relies on the generosity of normal people like you and me. Would you consider spearheading this ministry in your local church? It means contacting the ministry and then hosting a drive at your church or organization where people donate shoeboxes filled with supplies that can then be given to kids around the world along with a gospel tract. More is available on their website.

What role does fear have in the Christian media? When it came to the appointing of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, were the critiques posed by the Christian media backed with fact, or simply an abuse of fear? What role does fear have in the media, the Bible, and the gospel?

Where the secular media uses sex to sell, the Christian media uses fear. This episode scratches the surface of some thoughts on fear — how it can be used correctly, or abused in order to sell an agenda.

The recent appointment of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court of the United States has got Conservative Christian groups all up in arms, many of them standing against Sotomayor long before any evidence was available. We generally do not like to critique popular culture or politics, but we felt that we really needed to say something. We are not against people speaking their minds about a political appointment. However, we were so troubled by the void of information that existed for weeks. During that time, Christian groups were upset with Sotomayor, even though they could provide no evidence as to why she was a poor choice for the position. Since that time evidence has been made available that does, indeed, make her a questionable choice. However, we were offended by the craziness that proceeded the evidence. It appeared that the only reason that conservatives did not like her (before the evidence) was because she was appointed by a liberal president. This is not stated, of course. Until facts could be uncovered, the official record stated that she was dangerous because she shows “empathy”.

Unfortunately poor reporting and fear mongering such as this have become a norm in our culture. We would like to take this opportunity to point out that this kind of “journalism” is not only sloppy, but also hurts the movement. Once again, we are not siding with any candidate or appointee, but want to call Christians to a higher standard. This kind of reporting reflects poorly on Christ, on the church, and on other media outlets like ourselves. It also dulls the senses of people who take it in. If legitimate reasons to oppose a political candidate exist, we agree that people should have the right to express their opinions. However, it is a detriment to Christianity that we think we can ridicule an appointment without providing any evidence.

If our media continues to use fear to sell to us, we maintain that our only real biblical fear (that of a just God), will be made a mockery or will fall on deaf ears. If the Christian media hopes to have any future impact on the world, we maintain that it must be done through facts, education, and level-headed discussion and not by feeding on fear.

But what of the gospel? Are we to do away with fear entirely and teach only the love of God? Tune into this controversial episode of the Glowing Nose Podcast to find out.
