Some possible changes to the original idea (if that's all
right): Why can't gender be changed? It could generate some
interesting possibilities, and, after all, we have gender
reassignment procedures today. Also, I like your use of the word
"blank" struck me--perhaps, instead of "replicates," they could
be called "blanks?" The word is simpler, and already carries with
it associations (of emptiness, a surface to be filled) in the
reader's mind, which is nice. So, anyway. This is a very
interesting idea. I like the part about changing a person's
smell--maybe we can talk about why smell is important, how it
subconsciously affects us. And also: wouldn't the scientists be
able to control a replicate's personality, since mind is physical
and all that? I imagine they don't have a complete handle on the
procedures necessary to completely change a personality without
erasing its mind completely. And what would a replicate without
personality act like? Something like a robot, with no capacity
for emotion? In which case, I imagine the first sign of
personality developing would be the sudden appearance of a sense
of humor.
(Synopsis)
