Reminder: Electronic Holiday Messages

Just a reminder that we all need to put up new phone and e-mail "out of the office" messages before we leave for the break. Remember to include the date when service will be available again (Jan. 3rd) or when you will return. The Circulation voicemail recorded message should include the URL for the Libraries' Web site.

Global and Educational Programs - Fairfax

Equipment Manuals

All of the equipment manuals are now located in the bottom drawer of the administrative file cabinet at the circulation desk. This includes manuals for the microfiche readers, media equipment, etc. So if you need help with operating any of our equipment you can find a manual in one central location now.

Supplies

The emergency preparedness supplies have been moved from the staff lounge to the storage room behind the reference staff office. The supplies include buckets, mops, plastic sheeting, etc. If anyone does not know where the storage room behind the reference staff office is please let me know and I will be glad to show you.

There is an emergency preparedness manual in each staff office and at each service desk. Please familiarize yourself with the procedures and order of authority (people to contact in case of an emergency). The order of authority is updated as people leave ACL and/or the Arlington Campus. Currently the order in which people are contacted are (1)Page, (2)Nancy, (3)Marissa, (4)Lee.

Technology supplies, including software, manuals and peripherals are now located in the tall lateral file cabinet in the staff lounge. This cabinet will be kept locked and the key will be available at the circ desk along with the key to the xerox paper supply room and the assistive technology room.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind wishes and the lovely party and gift.

I've really learned a lot working at the Arlington Campus Library, and I'm going to miss you guys! I've given Page my email address, so please feel free to ask her for it and keep in touch. Hopefully, I'll be in to visit from time to time. And, if you're ever in Dupont Circle, stop by and say hello!!

Monthly reports are due by Wednesday, April 5th. Circ staff please add your monthly statistics to the ACL report on the shared drive and reference staff please submit your instruction/off desk statistics by this date as well. VCE Deliveries, Faxes, Etc.

Hello all!

For some reason, VCE has me as the "Ship to" person on all of their paperwork; so, I've been mostly receiving other people's bills via fax. However, today, they actually shipped someone's chair to me!

I've put in a call to VCE to try to remedy this; however, in the meantime, please check faxes, invoices, etc. to see if a fax or piece of furniture is really for the library. If not, please route to the appropriate department.

Typewriter Access

There is a typewriter in the Assistive Technology room now for students and faculty to use. It will be kept there from now on. The key to the room is at the circ desk if you need to let someone in.

Circulation Tips of the Day

Tip #1
When the message "Catalog Review" appears after checking in an item at the circulation desk, please send that item to Friedgard Cowan at Fenwick. Friedgard handles item maintenance tasks such as this for ACL. This item status is a result of inactivity. The item has not circulated in quite some time and has actually been removed from the catalog. Friedgard reinstates the item for us.

Tip #2
Item Requests (rush cataloging an item that is at Fenwick) is available to GMU staff, faculty and students only. We do not provide this service for Consoritum patrons at this time.

ACL Staff Meeting

Everyone,

The ACL staff meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday, February 23rd from 2:00 to 4:00pm. We will be keep the Share and Tell theme so think about what you would like to share for 15-20 minutes with the rest of the staff.

Also we will be keeping with the virtual meeting format for sharing meeting notes or any updates you may have that are important for the staff to know. There is an agenda on the shared drive now for this meeting.

Show and Tell

No, we are not going to bring in our pet frogs or lastest robotic invention...but we are going to share and demonstrate some tidbits of information relating to our work here at ACL at our next staff meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 16th from 2:00 to 4:00pm.

For example Lee has agreed to explain and show some of the work he has done with SPP and WebCT. Yeah! All of us in library school are eagerly anticipating that. Technology is the way of the future afterall...in libraries and education.

I on the other hand will be demonstrating a few nifty circ moves such as setting up a proxy agreement for a faculty members graduate research assistant.

Page is in accordance with this theme and if everyone plans on sharing for no more than 15 minutes we will keep the meeting moving as well as learning something new. All administrative information such as meeting notes etc. should be listed on the agenda for review and questions can be asked at the end of the meeting. The agenda for February is now available on the shared drive. Thank you!

Some friendly reminders; don't forget to create an extended absence message for your voice mail and email accounts indicating the dates when you will be unavailable to respond to messages. You can set up your email message ahead of time scheduling a start and stop date for the future.

Also feel free to submit December's monthly report a day or two before you take off for the holiday! One less thing to think about when you get back relaxed and refreshed!
