Now, hear the tale of Daredevil’s saddest story, a failure which he can’t remove. Even heroes fail, and in that we have a lesson from the mind of Bill Mantlo.

What??? How can a podcast all about Daredevil have no talk of the title character?? Well, Image Comics’ Shadowhawk is one of the strongest analogs to Daredevil in comics.

So, Dave decided to have an off-the-cuff episode talking about the character of Shadowhawk, as well as compare and contrast against Daredevil.

These two are more alike than you might think. And, yet, very different. Listen as Dave puts them head to head, and pitches his idea for a crossover.

Dave cracks open Daredevil issue 50, which concludes Stan’s run of 49 regular issues, and one annual.

Daredevil faces a killer robot bent on his death, as well as the robot’s maker, Starr Saxon.

But, things take a twist when Daredevil has to stop the robot from killing Biggie Benson, the man who sent the robot after Daredevil in the first place.

What does this have to do with Daredevil? Beyond being delicious, Hostess is well-known for it’s comic book ads, featuring many comic book stars of the time fighting evil with snacks.

One such comic star was The Man Without Fear himself, who starred in six ads. So, for a rainy day episode, Dave took an impromptu look at all six.

The epic comic event that took years to play out in the pages of many comics finally comes to you in podcast form. The drama is off the charts, the action is amazing, and perhaps not everybody gets out alive.

Actually, everybody DOES get out alive, with full bellies.

But, Earth’s mightiest heroes have been subdued, leaving only The Black Panther and The Man Without Fear to save the day.

This week, Dave sat down, wrote notes, and began to record an episode covering Daredevil: Yellow #5. Then, something happened.

Dave puts down the notes, and lays it all on the table, bringing Daredevil: Yellow to an abrupt ending with an off the cuff episode.

Does Dave’s rant reveal new nuances to the story, or does Dave angrily dismantle Daredevil: Yellow? Probably the latter… well, definitely the latter.

Exactly what did Zorro present that led to modern superheroes, especially Daredevil? A lot. In many ways he was the very first costumed crimefighter.

It’s a laid back look at a legend, as Dave prepares to take a vacation. The show will be back on May 8th to begin coverage on Guardian Devil.

So, Dave improvises in a very… odd way.

Dave cracks open Daredevil: Yellow #3, and Matt Murdock hustles pool, and makes Helen Keller jokes, but is this what it seems?

Dave discovers a deeper meaning to scenes that, perhaps, don’t have a deeper meaning… but, if he wasn’t over-analyzing, he wouldn’t be Dave, and this wouldn’t be his Daredevil Podcast.

When you put two things together that, by all logic, should have been dead an buried years ago a podcast episode it the most reasonable response.

Dave takes his warp-capable windowless van for a spin in a bid to get an answer to the theory that you can’t kill Star Trek, and he has found the secret.

Daredevil encounters his first fight, in the gym where his slain father once trained, as Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale re-imagine the events that would lead to a storied superhero career for a blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen.

But- once the task is done, why does Matt Murdock remain in the yellow and brown costume? That is the big question on Dave’s mind this week, as he plunges into Daredevil: Yellow #2.

Originally, the show was intended to return in a seasonal format, much like a television show, and 2 episodes were recorded as part of this new initiative. But, after the decision was made to keep things as they have been, they were remade from the ground up.

So, what we have here is the first version of coverage on Daredevil: Yellow #1, much like the lost Star Trek Pilot, “The Cage” it is being presented for your entertainment, after being unearthed in a forgotten folder on Dave’s hard drive.

So, presenting, an alternate look at Daredevil: Yellow #1.

It’s a nice slice of how podcast episodes can be re-examined, and re-written, as well as re-recorded. What changed, what stayed the same?

Ivy begins to hold Gotham City in her clutches with a bold scheme, as Batman struggles to wrap his mind around this new foe, who is like nobody he has ever faced.

Alan Grant brings us a Year One tale of the femme fatale in the pages of Batman: Shadow of the Bat Annual #3 from 1995, and Dave delivers it to you in audio form… for free.

The show was over. The Dave Cave was closed.

Then, Dave changed his mind. So, the ongoing journey through the post-crisis Batman chronology picks up where it left off- with a re-telling of Catwoman’s origin with the retcons created by Zero Hour.

Will Dave regret coming out of retirement? Will the show stick around? All questions will be posed, but not necessarily answered in the first new episode of 2020.

When tapped to defend the villainous Mr. Hyde, Matt must explore the true meaning of justice, and his mind becomes a courtroom of the soul.

The Karl Kesel and Cary Nord run on the Man Without Fear continues, and it’s a riveting argument when Dave covers Daredevil #355.

Dave cracks open Daredevil #353, which begins a new era in Daredevil featuring a creative solution to potential suicidal couples, Stopping a rampage from Mr Hyde, and sqad goals with Foggy Nelson.

Join Dave for a trip back to the 90’s, with an issue that doesn’t feel like the traditional 90’s aesthetic of big guns, ninjas, and ultra-violence.

Take a trip back to Selina Kyle’s childhood, and witness the various prisons that Selina escaped, both literal and psychological.

But, Bruce will learn about the mark in his eyes, how vengeance can boil beneath a man’s skin, and just what it will cost to continue as The Dark Knight.

But, a danger is waiting for him in Gotham City. It may be an early end to the career of Batman in the pages of Legends of the Dark Knight #4.

In the first of a two-part tale, we see The Man Without Fear get his feathers ruffled by a rival for Natasha’s affections.

But, The Avengers have an offer that Daredevil can’t refuse, and it will change the course of his relationship with The Black Widow as Dave looks at Daredevil #99.

We learn the final fate of Elektra… kind of. We also learn who the real power of New York is. And, the end of an era as the old guard makes way for a new generation of protectors.

All of this in the penultimate issue of Frank Miller’s original run, Daredevil #190. It’s ninjas, Gangsters, redemption, and storylines finally coming to a head.

Jump back into the very beginning, for the last time, as we see the tail end of Bruce’s training before returning to Gotham City.

On a barren Alaskan mountain, in the midst of a snowstorm, Bruce fights to survive with no coat, and no supplies, but what he finds is a story, and this tale leads to the rebirth of Bruce Wayne.

But, Daredevil is spending all of his time in a sensory deprivation tank, trying to get his senses back under his control.

To make matters worse, The Hand have resurrected the killing machine known as Kirigi, and he is gunning for Daredevil’s mentor, Stick.

But, The Man Without Fear ends up bar-hopping while the Black Widow enters the picture, coming into conflict with The Hand, and potentially paying the ultimate price.

A war is brewing, and Daredevil is about to be drafted, whether he wants it or not, as Dave covers Daredevil #187.

From several offices, to the waterfront of New York, and into the very underworld, Foggy seeks answers to the secrets of Atreus Plastics.

But, when his path puts him face to face with The Kingpin, will even Daredevil be able to save his best friend? Find out as Dave looks at Daredevil #185.

Matt Murdock is defending a man accused of murder, who seems to be innocent. But, looks can be deceiving and Frank Miller takes us through some twists.

But, in the end, can Daredevil convince a misguided youth that the system works, or will the boy turn to The Punisher’s lethal methods. Find out as Dave covers Daredevil #184.

But, the case isn’t as cut and dry as it would seem, even with a literal smoking gun, and Daredevil is on a hunt for the truth.

To add more fuel to an already raging fire, THE PUNISHER is in the mix, leading to a confrontation with the unbalanced vigilante that puts the Man Without Fear right in Frank Castle’s crosshairs as Dave looks at Daredevil #183.

Catwoman’s path will lead her into direct conflict with the Dark Knight himself, and no clear winner can emerge from their encounter.

Will Selina choose her life, or shut everybody out, and forge ahead as Catwoman? It may be a foregone conclusion, but Catwoman’s path is solidified once and for all in Catwoman #4.

But, by the end of the issue, blood will be on Selina Kyle’s hands, as the four issue Catwoman miniseries comes to a dramatic crescendo.

But, every action has consequences, and the fledgling Catwoman is about to learn that.

Even though she feels empowered by her Catwoman identity, Selina still has weak spots, and a horrible man is about to exploit those weaknesses.

Will Catwoman rise to the challenge, or can Selina Kyle make a difference in the life of the only family she has left?

Dave opens up Catwoman #2 to find out as the post-crisis origin of Catwoman continues.

On the dingy streets of Gotham City, Selina Kyle is found beaten and battered.

But, this moment will begin a journey for Selina to become Batman’s enemy, sometimes ally, and love interest.

Dave opens up the pages of the 1989 Catwoman mini-series from Mindy Newell to look at the origins of this complex and compelling character in a tale that runs concurrent with Batman: Year One.

It’s the post-crisis origins of Selina Kyle from the seedy underbelly of 1980’s Gotham City.

Batman needs Captain Gordon to trust him, but the Captain’s family just fell apart, leading to a tense stand-off with a disturbed man holding a wedding hostage.

Will Batman and Gordon work out their trust issues? How important is family to the legend of the Dark Knight? Some questions will be answered in this episode of The Dave Cave Batman Podcast.

Bruce is doing very well with a girl, and Batman is hitting the streets.

But, this green behind the ears Dark Knight may find that the intersection of Bruce Wayne’s romantic life, and Batman’s life of danger will cost him…

…or worse, cost Gotham City.

It’s a tale from legendary Batman writer Steve Englehart that shows what Batman will give up to wage his war on crime, and the commitment it takes to build a Batman.

And, James Gordon can only watch helplessly as the Gotham City Police rain down on the mysterious vigilante in full force.
