There is an announcement made by mysimplifieds.com lately which they will cease the operation by 31 May 2010. Many of you may not know that the big guy behind this portal is Digi.

mySimplifieds.com was launched in February 2009 as an online classifieds service to web and wap users (“the Service”). Upon monitoring its marketability and mass appeal, we found it prudent to cease offering the Service. - mysimplifieds.com

As one of the content providers to them, we're sorry for them. Yet this brought us another warning on web trend today. If you're a follower of western web cultural, you might noticed that many of them use Interweb rather than Internet.

Web versus Net.

It is simple to explain this term. It's like our earth to the solar system. There are many social communities live within the Internet. For instance, community who like to go eat out.

Back to the main story, GoEatOut is live for almost 6 years. It is still standing but we're looking a way to improve it. About 2 years ago, we started to explore to possibility to go for mobile platform.

At that time, Apps is blooming and developing an apps is not cheap especially there are less than 50 local developers who are good at mobile apps development. 2 years later, apps developers are everywhere but now people are talking about website as an apps.

If you're using Gmail or blogger from your phone, you should notice that you don't need to install an apps for that. Just go to the website and you will be viewing in apps interface.

This idea has save a lot of development time and cost and we're moving to that direction now. We will be bringing you the new way to explore good food in short future!

Tips for Valentines' Day 2012

This year valentine's day is kinda being ignored by most Malaysian due to the combo festivals from New Year, Chinese new year and Chinese valentines (chap goh mei) in less than 45 days. I believe most of you already feeling the burden of your current financial status right now.

Side story, I read a news reported that Muslim are not allow to celebrate Valentine's day or any other related parties. I wonder if there's any special occasion that is for Muslim to celebrate or appreciate their beloved one?

This year might be a good time to do some home cooking to give your partner a surprise, especially if you're boy. Grow up :) Watch some Youtube video to get some ideas or if cooking is really going to kill you, I believe talking her or him out is still the wisest choice for you, haha :P

No worries, we have gathered all the restaurants (well, almost) that are offering special menu for the Valentine's day in this list of dinner for valentine's day. Just don't forget these tips went dining out in any restaurants:

1. Remember to book a table in advance especially if that is a famous restaurant.

2. Always wear smart casual or even with dinner jacket if you're dining in high end restaurant or those that inside hotel.

3. Malaysian hardly wear a tie. If you're going to get one, make sure that is a bow-tie, else you will find yourself having trouble to eat properly without making yourself dirty like a baby.

4. You may want to give the flower to the waitress in advance. Don't buy the flower only went people come over the sell you one. Not only that will cost you more but it gives bad impression to the girl.

5. Valentine's menu often takes time to be served. If you're ordering course meal, you might want to see if there's any food that he or she do not prefer.

6. Make sure you have the money to pay and don't drink and drive :D

Ever since Facebook introduced social plugin for visitors to like the page they favors on external websites, numerous websites have been integrated with the like button in the page. Today GoEatOut created a page which is extracted from all the Japanese restaurants in Klang Valley to a single page together with the individual likes count.

This post featuring all the restaurants serving Japanese buffet and you can see the total number of like so that you will know which restaurant are the best as voted by the community. We believe this method will be the trend in future as people nowadays are searching for information in much quicker way and thus we provide this quick and clean evergreen content as voted by the community.

The very first post in 2012! What have been keeping us so busy until missed out so many blog update? Well, we’re going to include more cities’ food and dining promotions this year. Malaysian Food as the top searches keyword

Fourth years down the road and still going strong! It's not easy to maintain a website in Malaysia due to its unique factors like multi-ethnic cultural where you have to decide what language to be served in the website.

Over the years, we've been asked whether there will be Malay or Chinese version of GoEatOut and any plan to expand to other states in Malaysia. Well, it's all in our schedule but not going to be so soon. However, we're going to cover other states in short future. There will be a whole new platform to run this new dining portal for other states and we promise there will be user-friendly and faster than the current food portal.

Ramadhan has passed and GoEatOut has its highest traffic in the history and this has to thank the community, the food bloggers to share GoEatOut to their readers and friends. During this season, we also noticed that the keyword "Malaysian Food" has the highest search volume in Malaysia and we are now trying to fight for this keyword ranking as well :) So, don't forgot to link to us as Malaysian Food Finder - GoEatOut! Better Email Delivery–DKIM and SPF

We often receives email and call from GoEatOut visitors asking for verification emails as they never able to receive one during registration. Not anymore!

Today, we finally implemented DKIM aka domain key identified email to our verification and newsletter system (We are using SPF record previously). Although this feature added quite a lot of works to us and increased server power consumption, we believe this will increase our email deliver and avoid scam email that disguise as GoEatOut.

If you’re using Gmail or Yahoo, you should be able to see “signed-by” or the icon in the message header after expanding the email into full view.

If you still not receiving our newsletter or verification email, make sure that you do not block GoEatOut accidentally and check your junk/spam mail folder as well. Let us know if you still have trouble.

GoEatOut had some hiccup before Christmas…

It started as a bad news. Starting 5pm till 10pm on 17th December, GoEatOut was very slow to load and our technical team received numerous sms alert on site slow issue. Unfortunately, due to a rainy Friday night, we were not able to fix the problem immediately until around 9pm.

This problem was due to a traffic spike in that period which suspected to be Christmas and weekend visitor boost phenomena. Although GoEatOut was not completely down, some search features were not able to use and pages were so slow to load…

The good news is, we have fixed the problem and the loading speed is back to normal and we also glad that more and more people are using GoEatOut to find places to eat and dining promotion. We believe site down due to too many visitors is always the good news!

Food searchers insights! – How do you find places to eat?

Over the past 30 days, we found something very interesting on our visitors behaviors.

Although Windows users still rules, Apple users are increasing in a very fast pace, especially iPad users which contributed 0.65% in just 30 days!

Perhaps it is much more convenient to search for food and dining places from a portable device than in front of a big PC. I guess it is time to develop some Apps for iPhone and iPad users…

GoEatOut has a whole new look!

After more than a year, we have finally gave GoEatOut a new look. A major improvement in this new design is the coding behind. We reduced a lot of unnecessary codes and old school coding method and replacing with creative way such as one image CSS design like this:

Although there are still some limitation due to our core CMS platform, we are still able to reduce half the rendering speed compared to the previous design. (Averagely, we reduced 250Kb of page sizes).

This new design also aimed to reduce noises by taking out some elements and make the look much cleaner than before. This would help visitors to search for dining promotions and restaurant details in a quicker way.

Other interactive functions such as Facebook “Like” and “recommend” button were added as well. We will adding other features like “add to favorite” and a brand new map as well.

It's been awhile since we have moved GoEatOut a dedicated server. Our developers are busy building more features for GoEatOut lately however, we found that sometimes too many features and functions are not good for most of the people. Because of this, we have been a bit redundant to put up new features like "like" buttons, more advance commenting and rating features where you can review and give feedback on the restaurant with details like service, price, food and ambiance etc.

Anyway, we will be upgrading our platform soon to speed up the website, launching a better text-editors and change the layout a bit.

It's less than a month for the arrival of Ramadan month of 2010 and of course the Raya celebration :) As usual, GoEatOut has gathered (well, still gathering) a lot of dining promotions for this Ramadan 2010. Over the years, GoEatOut received a lot of feedbacks on various aspects to be improved and one of them is the loading speed of the website. We’ve been struggling on the budget versus service quality and the unavoidable limitation such as the slow Internet connection in Malaysia and heavy latency to oversea server.

Without many options, we’ve been using a low budgeted semi-dedicated server offered by IPServerOne which is located in Malaysia Datacenter. Since then, GoEatOut is getting more and more visitors everyday to search for places to dine-in and new Malaysia food promotions.

This has made the old server overloaded so many times and that one of the reason we decided to move it to a more powerful, stable and secure dedicated server to cope with the increasing traffic volume each days.

There will still be some server hiccup in this early migrated period, do let us know if you found any errors or bugs when browsing GoEatOut. We will be launching more features to make you to search for Malaysia Food easier and faster!

GoEatOut just broke the 2,500 fans line (although it is no longer called “Fans”). We wish to thank the support from the community and local medias. Without your help, we will be nothing.

Today, we’re proud to be one of the identical food and dining portal to introduce Malaysia food and dining places and latest promotions. For years, we have been very dedicated to provide up-to-date food and dining information to the community, to provide a more convenient way to explore for new food and places to enjoy our life – eating!

In the past few weeks, we've been busy changing the GoEatOut website structure. Some of you might have already noticed that we have moved our sign up and login link to top right corner of the page and added a list of quick links on top of the page once you are login to GoEatOut. In additional, we have also fixed some minor bugs and improve the website user interface, speed up the site and so on.
