My first visit there was actually when I had just moved to study in Edinburgh and was looking for a flat. I was supposed to meet with two girls that had rented an apartment right opposite the uni and were looking for 3 more people. As soon as I entered I loved the warm and inviting atmosphere, the staff consisted of young, friendly students and the food was great and pretty cheap too. But the best thing was the old fashioned back room overlooking the Edinburgh castle, which by the way is supposed to have inspired JK Rowling for Hogwarts. She started writing the first book here and since then the lovely place filled with elephant figures and drawings has quickly become a darling among both tourists as well as locals.

By the way doesn’t it look nice from outside?

I never got to Hampstead Heat on Sunday; I ended up doing a bit of shopping. I didn’t find too much but I bought some DVD’s and I got some photos developed so that I can decorate my room with them. However last time I went shopping I and a friend did an awesome discovery, we found a restaurant called Imli.

We were actually going to Inamo, but as there were no tables we just chose something close to it and it happened to be a wise choice. Imli is an Indian tapas restaurant situated in central London and the decor is light and modern. It felt really nice and friendly sitting there and sharing food with a good friend. I really like tapas as it’s such ‘social food’. However you can easily get bored by eating regular Spanish tapas too often, so it was great to have a bit of a change. Indian food also suits absolutely great for tapas. I strongly recommend you to pay a visit there after a heavy shopping spree.

Hi,

Martin here and after reading this blog for a while I was happy to be asked to send a postcard from Stockholm. First a short background: I spent a couple of years in the start-up environment in London where I got really fascinated by all the cool street-art around Brick Lane. I enjoyed strolling around taking pics of it and back in Stockholm, I’ve continued to explore the streets here. I am definitely not a member of the “scene” - just an aficionado with an iPhone-camera, but as far as I know, there is no iconic Banksy or SpaceInvader around here (most locals would probably be too busy noticing the street art). With that being said, there are lots of hidden gems out there if you keep an open eye. Here are some of my findings:

Stockholm is composed by a number of islands and around Mosebacke on “Söder“, you will always find some new stuff. Above is a beautiful mosaic.

This roe deer has been all over town for years now so it deserves a mentioning

Every day, I pass through the tunnel between Sveavägen and Birger Jarlsgatan and smile when I see this mosaic by the entrance. This is how I like street art – subtle and with some idea and craftsmanship behind it

We’ve all seen knitting graffiti, but who on earth is the person behind these letter crackers that can be seen sometimes – here the word “IN”, an early morning at the entrance of the tube. (I did not see “OUT” by the exit he he)

Yes, besides the streets with its walls, the tube is the place for the art. Someone in Stockholm must be really tired of boring public waste bins and hence has a personal mission to decorate them. This one of several was spotted by the tube stop “Gamla Stan”. Too bad they are removed just as quickly…

The Public Library is a beautiful building and a must see from tourists and architect students, but if you look close by the entrance, you’ll see how two dots on the right spot might spice things up.

Well, I could continue for much longer, but would rather get comments on things I’ve missed here in Stockholm. Do YOU have any favorite Stockholm street art – please comment with a Flickr link. If you want to read more from me on mostly Internet related topics, – check out my personal blog (in Swedish).

Yes, besides the streets with its walls, the tube is the place for the art. Someone in Stockholm must be really tired of boring public waste bins and hence has a personal mission to decorate them. This one of several was spotted by the tube stop “Gamla Stan”.
Hi, my name is Mark and I am one of the editors from UK Street Art. We run a site that showcases UK artists at home and abroad. The site is a great resource for information on street art, graffiti, exhibitions and a whole lot more.

Sam3 has been putting his mark on Madrid recently. The image above is titled “In The Autumn Leaves Fall” and is of a huge black figure rolling back the the previous pastings of the billboards in which they live. Painted with rollers on sticks, using paint that was available at the time, these figures are simple yet a highly effective.

You can pick up some prints by Sam3 over at Paper Monster, priced at $150 upwards. View some more of Sam3’s work on his blog

After not being able to join my friends the last couple of times that they went there, I am really hoping to be able to join this weekend.

Parks are of course great in the summer but actually Hampstead Heath is supposed to be at its most beautiful in autumn. Just imagine all the colours, orange and red leaves and the cold autumn air. Just perfect for a walk on a sunny Sunday. Even better than sleeping till late.

I’ve never been to Amsterdam but I’ve heard it’s supposed to be quite a place. I was actually looking for something else on the map today when I decided just to have a quick look on Amsterdam. I was stunned; Amsterdam is filled with cool places.

I know that Sergi’s friends were going to Amsterdam not long ago and he listed a few cool places already but I felt the need to write a post about Amsterdam myself. Not because I have a specific place to tell you about but because there’s so much places pinned out on the map that I don’t even know where to start if I ever visit Amsterdam.

However, I know I’d love to go to this café that’s only open on Sundays, but most of all I’d love to visit Red light fashion district. Surely the Red light district is known for other things than fashion, but the transformation that has been made after designers was allowed to borrow some of the red lit windows, is supposedly amazing. Reading about it I’m convinced that this is one of the trendiest places you can visit in Europe at the moment. What do you think?
