I sit too much at my computer when I’m working online. But 3-4 times a week, I hit the gym and recharge my “batteries” and come back a much happier and more relaxed person, ready to snap back to work amidst the 101 kid pickups I make a day. That’s the life of a work-at-home parent.

I guess to be house-proud doesn’t come cheap these days, all the more if you have company over often like these people do. While most of the families are happy to live mundane lives, there are some who have one social event after another.

Not to say that it isn’t good to have an active social life but it’s the kind of energy I can’t personally afford. But to each his own. For me and a lot of work at homers out there, we’re just too busy trying to balance home and family and business and have little time for much else.

That’s why I always make it a point to put in those hours consistently so that if something comes up that requires me to be away from my home office, I can just leave things on auto-pilot and just check in from time to time. I guess it all comes down to time management and planning ahead.

We’ve been to a couple of music concerts when they come to town, but not as often as my kids would like. Lately they’ve been suggesting going to the Philharmonic because they so loved it the first time we were there. While I couldn’t tell the difference between an ibanez and a tuba, my kids seem to have it all figured out.

We’ve never gone back because I’m too busy to keep track of when they have family day with discounted tickets on sale. But since the kids love it, it seems like I’m soon going to have to start checking out their schedules and stuff pretty soon.
