Today is wonderful day to reflect on and say thank you to all of the wonderful people who decided to sacrifice themselves for our own well being. Some of them sacrificed with their lives and others sacrificed their time and family to devote to you and me! A few of these great men are in my own family.

I'm sure my family is much like yours when it comes to Christmas cards. Each year I want to send out something personal and special to family members who do not live near us and do not get to see Graham frequently. I will normally try to take a really good picture of him with a festive background and then go in search of the perfect card shop to publish it. In years past I have even used cheap drugstore photo cards, but I usually run into problems. If your photo doesn't look right it is your own fault! Well, I was introduced to a beautiful online shop that has the most chic looking card designs to choose from. The best part is an actual designer works individually on your card and you are even sent a proof!

Minted has so many beautiful designs depending on what you are looking for. I was able to go through the entire process of selecting and creating a Christmas Card with them and was extremely impressed! The site itself is laid out well and is easy to navigate. Once I chose my design all I had to do was upload my photo. There are several different options for editing your photo (black/white or sepia) or you can even have a professional edit it for you! You can then decide what text you would like and even pick out the perfect colors and font for the text. Once you are finished you submit your order and an actual designer works on it for you! That means a real person is putting together your perfect card! A proof will be sent for your approval before your order is shipped. It only took a day for my proof to come in and I received my cards about a week after that.

The cards from Minted are beyond excellent when it comes to quality. My husband even commented on how nice they were (he usually doesn't have a lot to say about cards)! I really love the Yearline Cards that highlight your year to share with family as well as the Minibook Cards. I was also sent a sample of the Kid's Stationary that are so cute you want to squeeze them! You can choose your design and have it personalized with your child's name. These would make excellent Christmas gifts and are wonderful to use when birthday's roll around for enclosures!

Eleven Shoes. New Fall/Winter Styles GIVEAWAY!

Eleven has another excellent line up for the fall and winter! If you haven't been introduced to Eleven they are a must for a growing foot! They are actually the sister company to See Kai Run. So, if you are a fan of See Kai Run, these shoes are definitely going to be some of your favorites.

We were sent the Caper style to review with Graham. It is exciting watching him grow and the fact that there are still shoes that I can trust as far as comfort and fit goes makes me so happy! We have long been fans of See Kai Run, but once your child reaches a size 9 they will no longer fit. Eleven is the perfect answer and has just the same style and comfort, but is geared more for your big kid! Sizes start at 9 and go to size 3.

The shoe has no break in period which is excellent for busy kids! Really, who has time to wait on your child's shoe to break in? And who really wants their child to suffer through the process? I know that I can't even stand breaking in a new pair of shoes! This is my favorite part of the Eleven Collection shoes. I also appreciate the sturdy, yet flexible soles on the shoes. They have plenty of traction so they are great even on rainy days. The Velcro closure makes them a sanity saver when it comes to child independence and the upper are created from soft, breathable leather! The padded collars make sure to keep the shoe secure and comfortable.

Graham is not quite a size 9, but he can wear these shoes with ease! I honestly think a good shoe is a good investment especially for a growing foot! I know that I constantly harp on saving money and watching where you spend it, but good shoes are definitely worth it for me! Eleven Shoes range in prices from $30-$56!

Mommy Bibby. No more mess!

One of the neatest baby products I've had the privilege of reviewing is the Mommy Bibby. This product is a new-mom essential, guaranteed to keep baby spitups far from your outfit while also keeping your baby's skin free from dirt and grime that might be on your own shoulder! What makes this must-have baby item even better is that it is a completely mom-designed, mom-run business.

Lelia, a mother of four, and Ella, a mother of three, are the two entrepreneurial moms from New York behind the aboutBaby. company. Since their products are all "about baby", their company prides itself on making the very best bibby for your baby. Ella originally came up with the idea for the Mommy Bibby when her son Jack was born. She quickly found herself cringing as Jack's adoring fans picked him up and put him over their shoulders. Ella could only imagine the dirt, pet hair, smoke, and daily grime transferred to Jack's newborn skin with each interaction.

The Mommy Bibby was her solution to keeping her son's skin safe but she quickly realized that the Mommy Bibby held so much more potential!

Review: After trying out and reviewing the Mommy Bibby for a few days, these are the top features I noticed:

The Mommy Bibby is made with sure-stick Velcro which ensures that the bib will never fall off your shoulder when the you or the baby moves--something that other burp cloths cannot handle!
The Mommy Bibby is long enough for you to discretely nurse your infant under cover.
The Mommy Bibby is made with soft, plush organic cotton (you can also purchase a Mommy Bibby made with ultra suede smooth fabric).
There are three fun trim patterns for the organic cotton bib and three different colors: leopard, blue, yellow, and a pinkie coral (sure to hide stains!) for the ultasuede bib.

Verdict: I love the idea that I can support other moms with a purchase of the Mommy Bibby. I cannot wait to use this product with my newborn--I know it will save me from countless outfit changes! It will also be great to not have to worry about a bib slipping off my shoulder just when Caroline decides to spit-up--the velcro is a genius idea! I'm also thrilled that the bib is made with plush organic cotton.

I am not sure how long I'll be able to nurse Caroline under the Mommy Bibby, though, as the length of it seems suitable for infant nursers but not for older babies who tend to fuss more or lift up nursing covers.

Recap: Regardless of its length, the fact remains that the Mommy Bibby is a wonderful invention, perfect for moms of newborns--I'm definitely thinking that these would make excellent gifts for all the pregnant friends I know!

Bye, Bye Smelly Washer! And Save $1 on Affresh!

When our old washer bit the dust we made sure to do our research and get a washer that would last a long time as well as be more energy efficient. In order to do that you have to buy an HE front loader. We are so thankful we made that purchase, but there is one thing we didn't know about...how smelly it could get!

We were sent Affresh for HE washers a few weeks ago and are so thankful! Because HE washers use less water and have air tight features they can often create mildew build up. That's where the smell was coming from. The problem is that the smell can even start to wash off on your clean laundry if you don't do something about it. Affresh did the trick and was very simple to use. I just tossed the Affresh Puck into the washer and ran a normal cycle with hot water. Once it was complete there is a Grit Grabber that you can use to clean the inner rubber part to get stray debris and mildew.

Crock Pot Barbecue Chicken. Easy and Cheap!

A recent Twitter question for some good quick recipes got me this great one to add to my collection thanks to Super Jenn! She found it at AllRecipes.com and it is so good! Of course, it would have to be easy and inexpensive or you wouldn't find me posting about it. Here you go:

Ingredients:
* 6 frozen skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
* 1 (12 ounce) bottle barbeque sauce
* 1/2 cup Italian salad dressing
* 1/4 cup brown sugar
* 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Directions:
1. Place chicken in a slow cooker. In a bowl, mix the barbeque sauce, Italian salad dressing, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the chicken.
2. Cover, and cook 3 to 4 hours on High or 6 to 8 hours on Low.

This turned out to be a hit with the entire family! You could easily double this recipe and feed even more for a great price. This is a great meal idea when you don't want to put a lot of thought into dinner.

Moms Into Fitness! Shed 5 Fast DVD GIVEAWAY!

If you are like me it is so hard to find time to exercise, much less find something that you really like. I do enjoy running, but I'm not a marathon runner and I am pretty wimpy when it comes to weather, so as it gets colder I tend to get more sedentary! Not good! Fortunately, the Moms into Fitness DVDs have proven to be fun and effective for me.

Lindsay Brin is the professional behind the DVDs as she leads you through the various exercises. Lindsay sent me 4 of her DVDs to try out: Core Firing Sequence Method, Core Fitness for Moms, Shed 5 Fast, and Dance Jam! As soon as I got them I put them to use. Whenever the winter rolls around I am itching to get moving because I feel so claustrophobic in the house.

My favorite of the four is definitely Dance Jam! Lindsay really breaks the moves down for you so even if you are not familiar with dancing, you will catch on! I also really enjoy the Shed 5 fast because they are quick 30 minute work outs that are easy to master yet tough on your body! It works by boosting your metabolism and claims that you will loose 5 pounds in the first 3 weeks! The Core Firing Sequence Method is also great for those of you who are trying to work on your core muscles (abs). It includes three progressive 7-8 minute work outs that can be used alone or part of a more comprehensive program. After phase 1 I was already feeling my stomach muscles working! The DVD that would probably be the best to incorporate everything is the Core Fitness for Moms. This one completely killed me! Lindsay helps you teach your body to use the deep abdominal muscles instead of just the surface. Because you are standing up, you will also be elevating your heart rate and burning calories!

Like all exercise, you really have to commit yourself to doing it. If you can just find a good time for yourself and make a promise to yourself you can be successful. I say if you are really wondering about which one to try, check out the Core Fitness for Moms which covers a lot of different areas. I also love that she includes options for new moms who may need to do things differently.

Sprout Baby. Organic and Eco-Friendly.

Sprout Baby recently started selling organic, eco-friendly products for babies.

One of their newest product lines features great feeding supplies--from utensils and bottles to bowls and placemats. We were given two bottles to review in anticipation of our newest bundle of joy arriving. Both are glass bottles designed for infants.

Review: The first glass bottled we tried was the Lifefactory Wee Go Glass Baby Bottle in the four-ounce size. Talk about adorable! The Lifefactory bottle features a silicone sleeve in six cute colors. Why would you need a silicone sleeve? Well, besides the cute factor, the plastic and latex-free, non-toxic sleeve will definitely distinguish your bottle from other babies, prevent the glass bottle from breaking, allow you (and eventually your baby!) grip the bottle, and help ventilate the bottle.

To help keep clean-up easy on busy parents, both the bottle as well as the sleeve can be boiled or put in the dishwasher together. The plastic ring, plug and cap contain no polycarbonates and are food grade, FDA approved and recyclable. The nipples also come in two stages--1 (0-3 months) and 2 (3-6 months). Sprout Baby also sells the nine-ounce version (with corresponding stage 2 nipple) of this bottle for older babies.

Verdict: We really liked this bottle. My 15-month old daughter wanted it to be hers--she really loved the tactile silicone sleeve. I was very grateful for the sleeve buffer--the bottle was dropped quite a few times but you'd never know. I also really liked that the ounces were listed on the ounces and millimeters were printed on the side of the silicone sleeve. I think this bottle is a great option and we will definitely be using it a lot!

The second bottle we were given for review was the Born Free glass bottle in the five-ounce size.

Review: While this bottle does not have the silicone sleeve, it does feature contoured sides that make gripping the bottle easy. My daughter also toted this bottle around the house and dropped it on numerous occasions--no worries here--this bottle is DURABLE! Side note--Sprout Baby does sell a silicone sleeve to cover the Born Free bottle.

This bottle also comes in two sizes and two nipple stages--growing with you as your child gets older.

What I really liked about this bottle was their air vent system. The Born Free company claims that this nipple helps eliminate colic symptoms. I believe it!

Verdict: While i loved the cute silicone covers on the Life Factory bottles, I think the Born Free glass bottle is even better--still durable (and, with the option of adding silicone sleeves, you'll get even more durability!). The air vent system requires a bit more of assembly work--you have to combine two venting pieces before adding the nipple--I think it is worth the time not having the colic! And, while this is a small perk, i like that the measuring amounts (in ounces and millimeters) are on the same side of the bottle--you can look in one place and see the amount of milk left.

I am continually impressed by the Sprout Baby company--they are very pro-active in their community and really help parents make eco-friendly decisions by carrying these new eco-friendly products.

What's Your Passion?

No, seriously. What IS your passion?

Yesterday I was reminded of several things in the most strangest of ways. I was reminded of the reasons why we do what we do, or why we decided to do what it is that we are doing.

You know what I mean.

You know. That dream you started to dream a few years ago before you grew up. That little spark of hope that flickered in your mind and felt so right. Where did it go? What happens to that passion? Who gets to decide what is achievable for you? Did you let someone else decide?

In front of me there is a picture of a little girl. A happy little girl with a flowery dress, a hat, smiling, eating a snack, with crutches to her side. I can remember that day and I can remember those shoes (they were my favorite). My knee was only fractured. Not broken. My dreams were HUGE! I can remember.

I was going to save the world one hurt and broken person at a time as well as take up a career singing my heart out on Broadway. Little by little those lofty dreams began to break down as "reality" set in. Little by little pieces of dreams were fractured by different life experiences, people, and situations. Nothing major. Just small stuff.

What I know now is that no matter who or what comes your way and no matter how childish those dreams may seem you should dream them. It's funny how things generally seem to come right back around to you. I believe that each one of us has a gift that we need to use. I also believe that those gifts can clearly be seen in your childhood when you aren't worried so much about whose looking or how silly it might sound.

It's just right and you know it in your gut.

So, whoever or whatever has fractured any part of your passion or dream I urge you to revisit it. Will you be singing on Broadway or saving the world? Who knows? Who gets to decide? Go with it with all you've got and remember the very wise words I've heard and still hear from my wonderful mother, "You never know until... YOU try."

I love Weleda products because they are organic and usually do really well on the entire family's skin. I am completely in love with their brand new body care line: Pomegranate Regenerating Body Care.

This would definitely be a treat for your own stocking this Christmas... ok.. or you could buy it for a friend, mother, sister, or teacher. I was sent the Pomegranate Creamy Body Wash and have been loving waking up to its light, fresh fragrance in the mornings. Of course, because it is natural, this is great for even sensitive skin.

From the Weleda website: "The 100% organic pomegranate seed oil in our new Regenerating Body Care product line helps to promote skin renewal, protects against skin-damaging environmental influences and enhances your skin’s vitality and natural radiance."

The pomegranates are harvested on an organic farm in Turkey. They are at their peak in late September and more than 100,000 tons of pomegranates are grown there each year! The fruits are carefully cut from the trees by hand each year by the residents. Just another reason to love Weleda products, you know where they come from and you can trust them!

The line includes: hand cream ($12.50), body wash ($18) and body oil ($28). You can pick up Weleda products at Target, Whole Foods, and select health food stores near you.

The Alphabotz. Making Reading Easy and Fun! GIVEAWAY!

Learning to read is so essential to everything in life and is one of the single most important educational lessons we can teach our kids. I know that if you are like me, you want your child to have every opportunity to succeed at an early age. To me, the most important key to learning is having fun! I am so excited to introduce you to a brand new tool every parent and educator should add to their tool box called The Alphabotz!

The Alphabotz are much more than just ordinary flash cards, they are Superphonic Decoder Cards! The are designed for children ages 3 and up and were created by a parent and educator. These cards truly are an innovation which is why they recently were named one of the Dr. Toy's 100 Best Children's Products for the year of 2009 as well as won the Tillywig Toy & Media Award Brain Child Award! They use a combination of teaching strategies including: phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, and language experience. They do all of this while using a fun cast of characters that creates a story. They are a great idea because they incorporate several styles of learning to read.

Alphabotz work by having different letters on each robot character's chest. Each character has it's own identity as well as a character on top of it's head. The identifying character on top of it's head helps your child relate the sound of the letter(s) to the look of the letter(s). Not only does the robot have the letter and the character, but everything about the robot (objects, skills, home, friends) reinforces the letter and letter sounds. There are 46 robot characters broken down like this: 18 consonants, 3 consonant digraphs, 5 short vowels, 5 long vowels, 1 silent e, 5 impersonators, 5 vowel teams, and 4 r-controlled vowels.

A program that grows with your child is always a plus! Graham already uses these to help reinforce his letter recognition. You can even use dry erase markers on the cards and have your child trace letters. The cards are a generous size and extremely sturdy. As your child progresses, you can simply move through to more complicated decoding!
