Katy’s style is colourfully cheeky and vintage inspired by the 50’s and 60’s.  Hotpants, beaded bra’s, bodice’s, tulip shaped skirts and anything brandished in cherry’s, lips,  hearts, bows, candystripe, lollipops and glitter!  So really, to get her look you can wear any of the above… remember to add a wide belt to your waist and to wear plenty of red, cherries and sexy heels.

One thing is for sure.  Katy is a real performer and you can see she clearly enjoys what she does.  She is a great inspiration on style and seems to be untouched by her celebrity status which is a breath of fresh air!

She had amazing reviews at all the Summer festivals she played this year and I hope she will be doing them next year as I would really love to see Her Quirkyness and the amazing stage sets – girly fun taken to the extreme!

There was a picture of Kate Moss published in LOOK Magazine this week.  She looked so effortlessly good that it’s inspired my blog topic for today

So today’s blog is in homage to my 3 fave style icons: Kate Moss, Gwen Stefani and… Lauren Conrad of The Hills fame.  They tick all my boxes because they look great no matter the occasion or if they are just out and about and of course they have their own style which is essential.

So lets start off with my Number 1: Gwen Stefani.

Kate Moss has a knack for making everything she wears, look timeless.  She has the ability to just throw things together and it just looks amazing!

So Lauren found fame on the ‘reality’ show on telly called The Hills – it consists of plenty of bitching and gossiping but is somehow really addictive and I love watching it!!

Everytime I see Lauren in a magazine or on telly, she always looks lovely – she is never over the top and camera hungry like her ex-BFF Heidi.  Her style is: less is more! And it really really works! So those are my top 3 style icons!  Don’t they all look lovely?? I am sure Lauren has her own stylist, but I really do sincerely hope that Gwen and Kate are their own stylists… just seems more real and why they should be called Style Icons!!

Yes – it’s that wonderful time of year again when we get to dress up like freaks and ghouls, carve eery looking pumpkins and hand out sweets to Trick or Treaters! Not to mention all the scary movies on telly (serves a great night in with your man or your girls + popcorn + wine = good times!!).

There are always plenty of Halloween club nights and house parties to attend where dressing up is encouraged with plenty of prizes to be won… so here are some ideas if you are on a budget or don’t really want to buy something you will never wear again:

The Mummy:

One Halloween House Party I went to a few years back, one of the hosts was dressed as a Mummy – and what a clever and economic Mummy he was! All you need is a pair of light coloured jeans or trousers and a white t-shirt.  Then you will need to get a few rolls of white bandages form your local pharmacy and literally wrap yourself in bandages. Next add some dark rings under your eyes and your outfit is complete!

The Corpse Bride / Zombie  Frou frou Girl :

One of my best mates had a Halloween Party last year and she really looked amazing! She had a short tutu, a corset, striped tights and great stiletto heels.  She made herself a white wig with cotton wool and styled her ‘hair’ up and placed small rubber spiders in her hair.  She also bought real looking fake blood and grey body paint.  In the end she looked like something out of Tim Burton’s The Corpse Bride – classic!

Vampy Vampires:

With vampires being MAHOOSIVE at the moment (Twilight, True Blood etc..;) and living amongst civilians, dressing like one is easy!  You can really wear whatever you want, get some face powder for the undead look and a set of teeth and voila! Do give it some effort though… ladies can wear sexy heels and pencil skirts and guys can wear a nice shirt and fitted coat to achieve the look of this years vampires we all fell in love with.  I suppose this costume is a safe bet if you have to travel home afterwards and you do not want to attract too much attention

Spider:

Now this is a genius idea and so easy to put together!  All you need is 2 pairs of black tights, newspaper to stuff the legs with and some string.  Obviously you have to wear black trousers and sleeves, as your arms and legs will act as spider legs (as will the black leggings stuffed with newspaper).  Once the tights are stuffed, tie the waist bit of the tights on one side around your belt and knot it.  Do the same with the other pair on the other side.  Basically you want the legs to lift up when you lift your arms up – so tie string around the end of each tight’s leg and then tie this to your wrist or finger.  Leave some space between each leg and your wrist to get an effective 8 legged spider look ;P  See this link on how to create the Spider Costume! This costume would look great doing Michael Jackson’s THRILLER dance routine!!

If you don’t have any creepy halloween specific costumes – why don’t you recycle any costumes you do have?  My best friend has all the gear for the perfect Cleopatra, and for Halloween she just wears white face powder, and dark rings under her eyes and she looks like a Cleopatra Zombie – easy!

The trend is so versatile you can flap day and night   Get yourselves one of these little flapper hats called Cloche hats – they  fit really well and are low enough to keep your ears warm during winter.  It is such a signature accessory that the flapper look will be instantly achieved no matter what you wear it with.  Headbands are great too – just stick a peacock feather in it or attach a sparkly broach and voila!

The hairstyles were really girly too with lots of waves and curls to frame a beautifully done up face.  Have a read through the AislDash website for some great tips on how to achieve this lovely style.  Short bobs and fringes give the flapper hairstyle a very current edge, like Aggy pictured below.

Dresses are classy and sit on or below the knee.  The sex appeal of the dress is all in the neckline, showing off necklines and shoulders adorned by strings of jewels and pearls.  Shoes are round toes with T-bars, 2 tone if you like and frills if you can find them! Timeless and an absolutely classic look all round!

Well well well! What a weekend for the X factor!

Firstly I can’t believe the twins are STILL in??? What is going on? Considering all the boos coming from the audience, I am not the only one who thinks they should not be there..??

The great (or once great) Whitney Houston had a fantastic performance and looked amazing in a silver sparkling maxi! The lady has always had a great taste in style…  Although her interview left me feeling slightly shocked… and I am sure you felt it too!

We all know she has battled drug and alcohol addiction for a long time and that she is supposed to be clean now – but that is just so hard to believe!! I am sure we can all understand the natural rush that adrenaline gives you when you are on stage (and making a comeback to very pleased fans) as with Robbie Williams 2 weeks ago… but this was a little weird and a little embarrassing… A lot of viewers were upset by her actions and have complained to ITV and apparently an investigation is now underway… molehills into mountains anyone??

Olly Murs is now officially my fave act to win the X Factor – a great, great performance from him! A great personality, great voice  and a splendid dancer Go Olly!

The dancers looked amazing! The flapper dresses really set the tone and made it feel authentic – oh to be able to dance like that!! The 1930’s and 40’s style is definitely making a fashion comeback – I love the look – the gloves, the pearls, the t-bar shoes and the dancing! I feel a trend coming on…

Well I don’t know about you lot, but I am hooked on X Factor this year

All the contestants are really really good (I am not sure how the Twins made it through, but I can see Louis’ way of thinking… the young girls will go mad for them! And maybe with lots of voice coaching may get better!), it’s hard choosing a favourite!

My favourite’s are Ricky, Lucy, Rachel  and Olly… The obvious favourite is Danyl Johnson… I like him but am rooting for the dark horses!!!  Come on guys!! The question is WHO is going to win???????

I had to go to a farewell on Saturday night for a really good friend who is going back home to South Africa, very sad but we all had a brilliant night out on the tiles. All the best in SA Erich – we miss you already!
