Since you probably already stick out by looking white as a ghost, here are 7 tips to help you with Thailand’s nightlife:

1- Table Location is Everything

Because you won’t have multiple trips to the bar, you will be at your table all night so you don’t want to be in the back corridor, wedged between the toilets and the fire exit. A table with lots of other tables around ensures lots of chances to mingle. Get there early, reserve or give a tip.

Get a table near other tables with girls. A lot of the time, when you are partying in Bangkok the girls you meet will be the ones with tables right next to you.

2- Dress Up

There are many high-end clubs where stern-faced bouncers won’t let you in if you are in your backpacking gear. Don’t show up to a club wearing shorts and flip flps.

3- Bottle Service is Standard

Waiting to get served at the bar is only for Westerners. In Thailand, you get a bottle, a bucket of ice and some mixers at your table. No more “I’m just going to the bar. You want a drink?”

4- Be Uncomfortable

Don’t travel to the other side of the world just to go to Irish pubs. Yes you can find the food, drink and music that you know well, but why not have some different experiences? Travel will change you and open your mind to the extent that you feel uncomfortable.

5- Pay The “Farang” Tax

Thai’s will often get in the club for free while foreigners will have to pay cover. Don’t make a scene about this or you look even more like a loud, obnoxious foreigner.

This is just an extra “tax” for being a foreigner. Illegal in most countries, but expected in Thailand. Foreigners pay more.

First time I came to Bangkok Thailand I got completely ripped off on my taxi at the airport.  Once I picked up my baggage and walked to the main lobby, I was overwhelmed by taxi drivers asking me if I need a ride.  I told them my hotel and they told me a price.  I did this a few times and the price ranged from 600 – 900 baht.  I eventually paid 600 baht and got a ride to my hotel.

The problem is, I paid 350 baht too much.

This is what I should have done:
1- Ignored all those taxi drivers
2- Go to floor 1 in the Bangkok Airport
3- Follow the sign, “Public Taxi”
4- Wait in the line for 2 minutes and you will be escorted to a public taxi

All public taxis charge by the meter.  There is a standard 35 baht surcharge for every taxi meter.  If you get the taxi at the airport, they add an extra 50 baht surcharge.  After that, all charges are based off the taxi meter.

(Note: If you use a public taxi, you will also need to pay the highway tolls which are about 30 baht from the airport.  However, you will save at least 300 baht by using the public taxi instead of the taxi vultures that prey on unsuspecting tourists.)

Bangkok:

The capital of Thailand which is where you can find almost anything…excluding beautiful beaches.

If you want to party in nice clubs, stay in Bangkok. The most beautiful “good girls” with college education can be found in Bangkok.

Pattaya:

This city is built for one thing and one thing only, and this is “whoring”. Pattaya is the city that you will find the hottest hookers in Thailand and often at the best prices.

The beach sucks, but there are some neighboring islands that have nice beaches.

If there were a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah, Pattaya would be it.

Koh Samui:

I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for this place after calling it home for years. Samui has beautiful beaches and some decent nightlife.

The women are…okay. There are a couple handle fulls of very attractive Thai girls on Samui while the rest are considered okay by Bangkok standards.

Phuket:

Like a cross of Bangkok, Pattaya, and Samui. Phuket and some nice beaches. Although it is officially an island, you will not get the feel of being on island. Phuket comes across as a big, busy, noisy, and dirty city.

The women are pretty good looking, third to Bangkok and Pattaya. Bangla road is the main nightlife hub.

Chiang Mai:

It’s no secret that I’m not a big fan of living in Chiang Mai, but it’s worth a visit or two. People visit and stay in Chiang Mai for two reason:

1- It’s the cheapest major city in Thailand to live in.

2- Thai culture. Things move slower in Chiang Mai and you get a much more traditional Thai experience when living here. Which can either be a good or bad thing.

Chiang Mai is great place to check out some temples, visit the mountain city of Pai, and to take an elephant or jungle tour.

Koh Phi Phi Don:

One of my favorite places in Thailand. This small island doesn’t allow cars or motorbikes. The beaches and scenery will remind you of Hawaii, and the beach parties are awesome if you are in your 20’s and 30’s. This is one of my highest recommended pit stops for a couple nights.

Koh Phangan (Full Moon Party):

Describing the Full Moon Party could never do it justice. This is one of those things you must experience to fully appreciate. Imagine 10,000+ people partying on the beautiful beaches of Koh Phangan having the time of their lives with a combination of drinking, drugs, dancing, and fucking.

Also, a nice place to relax between the Full Moon Parties. Not a great selection of Thai women, get a great place to take a Thai girl to or pick up foreign girls.

Koh Tao:

This island pumps out more open water certified divers than any other location in the world. And for good reason too. The three day classes are cheap, (about 300usd including lodging) and the instructors are awesome. Not to mention, the diving locations are absolutely breathtaking. If you are lucky, you may even see a whale shark.

Great nightlife partying with other foreigners. Don’t come here to pick up Thai girls.

Hua Hin

If you are just visiting Thailand, I recommend skipping Hua Hin. The beaches are merely “okay” when compared other places in Thailand and the nightlife consists of unimpressive hooker bars.

I’ll only go to Hua Hin for three reasons.

1- If I’m living in Bangkok and want to take a girl to an “okay” beach for a couple nights.
2- Go golfing
3- Kitesurfing. This is the best place in Thailand to do Kitesurfing

Koh Chang

If you are looking for awesome non-exploited beaches in Thailand, Koh Chang is the place for you. This isn’t a place you go to as a solo traveler looking to pick up women. But if you want to have a great time relaxing on the beach with amazing snorkeling, then you should come here.

This a very family friendly place. So if you are traveling with children, consider taking a pit stop in Koh Chang.

Years ago when I first considered visiting Thailand, I knew nothing about it.  All I knew is that it was far away, a dangerous third world country, and where Muay Thai kickboxing was born.

The mainstream media has countless books, websites, and movies available that display Thailand to be dark and dangerous on so many counts.

But the truth couldn’t be further from that.

Can Thailand be dangerous?  Yes it can.  But is it any more dangerous than any other country???

I don’t believe so.  Not by a long shot.

Let’s look at a few examples:

Partying at a Night Club

USA – I’ll see about 2 or 3 fights every night at a single nightclub.

Thailand- I’ll see one fight every 2 – 4 weeks.

Reason Why: I believe that there are more fights in USA nightclubs than Thailand nightclubs because sex is so much more difficult to attain in USA.

Most of the fights in the States happen for two reasons:

1. A man’s ego was hurt due to a woman shutting him down, so he gets stupidly drunk and starts picking a fight to show how tough he is.
2. The boyfriend gets pissed off because his girlfriend is getting hit on by guys.  So he must “assert” his authority.

Because sex and women is so easy to attain in Thailand, this isn’t nearly as big of an issue as it is in western countries.  A simple case of supply and demand.  There is a higher ratio of attractive and willing women in Thailand.

Walking Around Alone At Night

Try walking alone in downtown Los Angeles or New York.  How do you feel?  Try walking alone in downtown Bangkok at 4am and you’ll know what I mean.  At no point will you ever feel threatened.  If fact, I’ve seen people passed out drunk on the side of the road in Bangkok and woke up hours later with neither being robbed or messed with in any way.

Try doing that inside any major city in America.  I’ve felt safer walking down the streets in Bangkok than I have in any other major city in the world.

Drunk Driving:

How often have you driven drunk in the United States or Europe?  Me, it’s quite a bit.  How often have I driven drunk in Bangkok?  Zero.

Why??? Taxis are so fucking cheap in Bangkok and can be found everywhere.  There is no reason for you to ever drive drunk in Bangkok.

I can’t say that for the United States.  Taking a taxi in Los Angeles often costs me 100usd.  Because of this, I’ve risked driving more times than I should.  And I have a feeling I’m not alone in this.

Police:

Without a shadow of doubt, the police are much more competent in the United States and Europe.  However, situations where you need the police help is rare in Thailand.

Stay away from Patpong Road in Bangkok, and you won’t be scammed.

Don’t start a fight with Thai guys, and you won’t have a huge brawl on your hands.

Don’t buy drugs, and you won’t have to worry about jail time.

Besides those situations, there is a 99.9% change that you won’t ever need to talk to a police officer.

(If for some reason you do have trouble, talk with the “tourist police”, not the local police.  The tourist police are at least half way competent.)

To fully answer this question for yourself, you’ll just need to take the plunged and come to Thailand.  This is one of the things in that life that you can’t just read about, you need to find the answer for yourself.

Where to go for Bar Girls and GoGo Dancers in Bangkok:
– Nana Plaza (Like a 3 story outdoor mall full of GoGo bars)
– Soi Cowboy (An entire street dedicated dancing women)
– Patpong Road – Home of the Pussy Show

(Warning: Patpong Road is a tourist trap.  They are known for conning tourists by offering free entrance, then not letting them leave without paying 1,000 baht for a drink.  Many of my friends, including myself have been screwed by multiple places on Patpong Road.  Go to Nana Plaza or Soi Cowboy instead.)

4- Foreign Girls

Bangkok is not the best place to go for foreign girls.  However, they can still be found around the major tourist areas.

Where to go for Foreign Girls in Bangkok:
– Khao San Road (Most bars or clubs along this road.  Beware though, this road is crawling with lady boys)
– Day time.  If you like foreign girls, it’s best to meet them during the day and set up a meeting later that night.  Foreign girls can always be found near shopping centers.  Start with MBK and Khao San Road.

5- Working and Massage Girls

There are plenty of Gentlemen’s Clubs and body massage places throughout Bangkok.  Annies Body Massage is a good place to start out your night.

6- High Society Girls

You will probably never encounter these girls unless you speak fluent Thai and/or are connected with powerful Thai people.  As noted in: 4 Types of Thai Girls, these girls either come from very wealthy families, popular movie stars, or are royalty.  Your only way in is through association with well connected Thais.

Where to go:
– Upscale Thai parties and gatherings
– Occasionally Demo or Funky in the VIP areas

Put on a shirt, a nice pair of shoes, and grab a package of condoms.  Because tonight in Bangkok is your time to be the King!

Just like in the mockumentary, “This is Spinal Tap”, I want to make a case for how Thailand goes to 11, as it’s at least “one better” than all other countries. I challenge anyone to name a country that has all 11 of the positive traits that Thailand has.

Here are the top 11 reasons for living in Thailand:

1. Weather

Thailand is either warm, hot, or hotter n’hell. While some people may say that Thailand’s hot climate is a negative, I think it’s a positive. Where else can you ride on motorbikes while wearing sandals, shorts and a t-shirt with a hot babe in a skirt sitting behind you almost 365 days a year? Rarely do you see the sexy creatures of Thailand all bundled up because it’s almost never cold. And that’s great, because concealing these beauties would be the equivalent to displaying the Mona Lisa in a root cellar.

2. Women

It is my opinion, and it may or may not be mine alone; Thailand has an abundance of very beautiful women, and I find them to be prettier, as whole, than American women. Not only are many of the women here stunning, they will usually talk to you and not turn their nose up and whisk themselves away like many of the beautiful women do in the west.

3. Social

Nearly everything in the Thai culture is a big social event. Eating, shopping, going out at night; it’s all a big social ordeal here. You’ll likely never see a Thai person alone in a restaurant or bar, as socializing at all cost is embedded in their DNA. The atmosphere in all of the Thai cities I’ve visited is lively because of this.

4. Food

Thai food is the best with an unequaled array of zesty foods that tend to be healthy.

5. Freedom

I don’t know if Thailand is the free-ist country in the world or not, but it’s certainly many times freer than America, as well as probably every other country in the west. It’s goofy that you’re required to wear a helmet while riding a motorbike (enforced lightly), or that you can’t buy beer between 2pm and 5pm (at the 7-11’s at least), but the overall sense of freedom and lack of regulations found here is unrivaled.

6. Cost

Where else you can you have three meals, a fancy coffee and a large beer for $12? Where else can you rent a luxurious apartment or a three bedroom house for less than $300? The cost vary depending on what region of Thailand that you want to call home, but Thailand is one the most affordable countries to live in the world that has modern amenities: good roads, WiFi, clean public toilets (okay, the last one is bullshit).

7. Service

Thai people, at least here in Chiang Mai, are usually very accommodating, and most go out of their way to help you. The service is not always Candied Skittles and Sunshine, but overall the service is fantastic with a smile to reinforce why most people like it here so much.

8. Nightlife/Things To Do

The town that I used to live in in Washington State closed down at midnight. In Thailand, every night can be an extended Friday night if you want, and there’s always something to do or a festival to attend.

9. People

I rarely read about how non-aggressive the Thai people are, but I find them to be very peaceful as a whole. Unless a Thai is desperate and very intoxicated, it’s pretty rare for them to commit acts of violence, as being passive and non-confrontational is part of the Buddhists culture. It’s evident that America is basically a thug-culture, unfortunately. The “hero’s” that the youth tend to idolize are usually from the NFL (No Felon Left-behind), and the video games bought are thug related. Grand Theft Auto V, the record-breaking sales phenomenon, is a perfect example.

10. Health care

Thailand has affordable, modern health care. American as well as other western governments tout that their healthcare is the greatest, but that’s a misnomer. Never is a mention of how inefficient and expensive it is. And American’s have a train wreck coming their way, known as Obamacare, which will likely make their healthcare system even worse.

11. Massages

Have you ever heard of getting a good, Korean massage? Or a relaxing Uruguayan massage? Thai massages are the best and most famous of any country. Not only can a one-hour Thai massage be had for $5 (in Chiang Mai), it’s healthy and gives you energy for hours afterwards. Of course there are oil massage options, as well as “special” massages in many parlors– whatever type of massage tickles your fancy, you can find it in Thailand.

#2 Khao San Road

Khao San Road in Bangkok isn’t just for cheap backpackers and hippies…well it kind of is.  During the day this place looks like that lamest tourist destination in Asia. But at night Khao San Road is packed with foreigners and Thai university girls taking advantage of the cheapest drink prices in Bangkok.

Come here on Friday and Saturday nights and you’ll see what I mean.  The clubs and streets will be packed, and if you approach the girls in a non-backpacker-cheapskate way,  you can pull some very attractive college girls.

The one downside about this place is idiot English and Australians on their “gap year” who get loud, stupidly drunk, eventually throwing up in public, and making foreigners look bad.

Also watch out for Ladyboys here.  Khao San Road has some of the “trickiest” Ladyboys in all of Thailand.

But hey, the good nightlife of Khao San Road far outweighs the bad.

#3 Route 66 at RCA

For 10+ years Route 66 has been one of the top destinations where Thai girls go to party on the weekends in Bangkok.  While the cheapest university girls will stick with Khao San Road, at RCA you will find that the girls are a little more classy.  Not much, but instead of sipping on 300 baht buckets (9usd), here the girls will be sipping on 2,000 baht bottles of whiskey (60usd).

And unlike Khao San Road, most of the clubs on RCA street do NOT allow Ladyboys inside nor is this a big prostitution place.  So when you are vibing with your girl, there is a VERY good chance she won’t bring up the most dreaded question, “How much will you pay me?”

#4 Shopping Malls (MBK, Termainl 21, Siam Paragon, Etc…)

For far too long I mostly only met Thai girls online or at nightclubs.  But as of a couple years ago, that drastically changed.

There is A LOT of value to be had when it comes to meeting girls at shopping malls in Thailand.  Just like everywhere else in the world, Thai girls like to meet up with their friends at Malls.

7- Thai Ladyboys

Even after all these years, ladyboys still disgust me.  It’s not the gay thing that bothers me, it’s the idea of men pretending to be women so they can trick other men into sleeping with them.

6- Thai Racism

Being a white guy from America, I haven’t really had to deal with discrimination because of my skin color.  However, in Thailand it is a different story.

Thai Racism Consists Of:
– Paying more to enter establishments
– Being refused entrance at traditional Thai clubs and bars.
– Paying more at golf courses
– Hi-Society girls are looked down upon for even talking to a foreigner

Which is kind of funny, because Thai people are obsessed with looking as white as possible.  Tan Thai girls are looked down upon as being poor and trashy.

Just remember, even though you may live here and greatly contribute to the economy, you will always be an unwanted foreigner in the eyes of some.

5- Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

For some reason, Asia is obsessed with using MSG in its food.  MSG is a “seasoning” that works by making your brain believe the food you are eating tastes good.

Although the side effects of MSG are somewhat controversial, most agree that it’s not good for your health.

4- No Sidewalks

A small thing, but something that can be quite annoying.  Try walking down the road on most streets in Thailand and you’ll either have no sidewalks or sidewalks that are incomplete.

Since pedestrians do not have the right-a-way here, cars will not stop or go around you – which making walking quite risky at times.  Along with dodging cars, you’ll also be dodging trash, litter, and stray dogs.

3- Thai Women And Facebook

As my friend pointed out, if your Thai girl has a Facebook page, forget about trusting her.  Meaning she’s chatting with a bunch of foreign guys for a reason.

Luckily for me, while you are telling her that you love her on Facebook, she has her legs wrapped around me

2- Visa Runs

Now-a-days if you aren’t married to a Thai woman, going to school here, or own a Thailand based business – you can’t get longer than a 90 day tourist visa.  Which means you have to leave the country to do a visa run every three months.

Although being forced to leave the country doesn’t sound too bad because you can use it as an excuse to visit Singapore, Japan, or Bali.  Visa runs always seem to come up at inconvenient times and can be quite costly.

1- The Women Are Too Easy

This is what we call, “A Double-Edged Sword”.

Going out at night and knowing that you can get laid 100% of the time is great.  However once you’ve been here for a while, you will be “destroyed”.  Getting laid by beautiful women will be so easy that you won’t even think about it, it is just something that will happen.

That is until you have returned to America or Europe and go out to a bar.  Beautiful women won’t approach you as often and you’ll also discover your “game” has gotten pretty weak.

The nightlife in Thailand is more like a fantasy than reality.  There is no other place in the world that can compare with the ease and the beauty of Thai women.
