A beginner’s guide to investing in gold

16/03/2016

Gold can be a very useful way to diversify your portfolio. It’s relatively rare, and its value often doesn’t move in line with other assets such as equities or property.

At MoneyWeek, we’ve said that gold provides insurance for your portfolio. Most people should probably allocate around 5%-15% of their portfolios to gold or gold-related investments.

So the follow-up question is: how should you invest in gold?
Investing in physical gold
Physical gold is worth holding because it’s a universal finite currency, held by most central banks.
In the same way that the family home should not be regarded as an investment, gold bullion is not an investment per se, rather a form of ‘saving for a rainy day’ or of financial insurance. You shouldn’t trade your gold. You wouldn’t trade an insurance policy, so don’t trade your gold.

Gold is a good way to ensure wealth preservation and for passing wealth from one generation to the next. Once you’ve got some gold bullion in your portfolio, then other investments such as mining shares, investment funds and other more speculative gold investments can be considered.

Modern bullion coins and bars

Modern bullion coins allow investors to own investment-grade gold legal tender coins at a small premium to the spot price of gold as quoted on the markets.

The value of bullion coins and bars is determined almost solely by the price of gold, and thus follows the bullion price.

one-ounce gold bullion coins such as Krugerrands or Britannias are by far the most popular for both small investors and high-net-worth individuals who see the advantages of owning legal tender bullion coins, either in their possession or in depositories, and recognise the advantages of the divisibility afforded by them.

Buying investment-grade gold bullion for investment is stamp-duty free and tax free (VAT exempt) in the UK and EU due to the EU Gold Directive of 2000.

Once again gold will be a great asset to hold under those circumstances. Now, I'm sure some of you out there think I'm wrong about climate change, it's not a real problem, it's not going to cause major upsets for the human race.

Maybe you're right. If you are, that’s great news for all of us, but it's still worth buying gold, because there is enough of a potential crisis out there to make gold a decent investment.

I mean, let's think about the Eurozone. Fine, we've got more stability now in the eurozone than we had two or three years ago, but the reality is, we’ve still got the high inflation, high unemployment in Spain, Portugal and Greece.

We've got Ukraine. We all know about Ukraine, it could easily get worse.

Then there is Korea. In North Korea, you've got a young, inexperienced dictator who is probably not a 100% sane. That could easily spiral into a crisis, or even a war.

And then we look at Syria. Across the Middle East, we've got a huge amount of tension between the Sunni and the Shia Muslim population. Al Qaeda is in the mix on the Sunni side.

Then you've got Israel, which is understandably nervous about its security.

You've got all of those issues, all of that uncertainty in the pot that could easily spiral out of control into a war or a major crisis.

Then I think there's the issue of climate change. When you think about the floods that we've had in Britain this winter or the major storms we've seen in the US over the last two or three years, there's a decent chance those severe weather events were caused by climate change.

And the funny thing is, gold also often performs well when you see deflation - if you see prices falling across the economy for more than a month or two. Back in the 1930s in the Great Recession, we saw some real deflation and gold performed pretty well relative to other investment assets.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

I am going to look at why you should invest in gold, right now in April 2014 and the reason why I think you should put some of your portfolio into gold is that I think there's a lot of global risk and global uncertainty out there, and that uncertainty could lead to crises both political and economic. When you have a crisis, gold normally performs well as an investment.

And just think about the ultimate crisis of the last 20 or 30 years. I'm talking about 9/11, that was a massive crisis, and gold then went on a really strong run for the next decade basically as people saw it as a safe haven when there was a lot of uncertainty in the world.

Also, gold can be a good safe haven after an economic crisis. Again, the gold price went up a long way after the big financial crash of 2008.

The point is that when other investments are falling in value, gold often rises and I think there's quite a few potential flashpoints around the world that could lead to another political or economic crisis.

CHAPEL HILL, NC (MarketWatch) — The gold-market timers I track aren’t exhibiting the extreme pessimism and despair that is the hallmark of a bottom in prices, despite a dismal six-week period for the yellow metal.

Over the past month and a half, the March Comex gold contract has fallen by more than $100 — from a high of $1,307 on Jan. 22 to a low of $1,195 earlier this week. It’s currently just above $1,200. In fact, bullion is now back to within shouting distance of its late-December low.,

Nevertheless, the average recommended exposure among gold timers I monitor is nowhere near as low as where it was during those December lows. And that’s not a good sign, according to contrarian analysis.

The current average recommended exposure level (as represented by the Hulbert Gold Newsletter Sentiment Index, or HGNSI) stands at 0% — indicating that the average gold timer monitored by the Hulbert Financial Digest is completely in cash. At the late-December lows, in contrast, the HGNSI stood at minus 46.9%, which meant that, at that time, the average gold timer was allocating nearly half of his gold-trading portfolio to going short, betting on a decline.

India’s decision to maintain an import duty on gold surprised investors, dealing a fresh blow to a metal that has been hit hard this year by a strengthening U.S. dollar and a series of policy shifts around the globe.

Gold for April delivery US:GCJ5 , the most actively traded contract, sank $4.90, or 0.4%, to $1,208.20 a troy ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Investors had been hoping India would reduce the duty, likely boosting demand for gold from the world’s largest consumer. The decision adds to broad crosscurrents for gold, which tends to appreciate at times of economic uncertainty but does less well in more placid periods because it offers buyers no periodic payments, or yield.

“You can add this to the long list of disappointments for gold,” said Vedant Mimani, who helps manage $80 million for ACGO Funds in Miami. Mr. Mimani has been neutral on gold this year, believing U.S. monetary policy will play a central role in determining price direction in the market. “Gold keeps trying to hang its hat on some sort of change or something positive around the corner that doesn’t seem to materialize,” he said.

December silver futures closed down $0.309 an ounce at
$31.725 today. Prices closed near mid-range today.
The key
"outside markets" were bearish for silver today as the U.S.
dollar index was firmer and crude oil prices were solidly
lower. A five-week-old downtrend on the daily bar chart is
still in place.
The silver bulls and bears are on a level
near-term technical playing field. Bulls' next upside price
breakout objective is closing prices above solid technical
resistance at last week's high of $32.695 an ounce.
The
next downside price breakout objective for the bears is
closing prices below solid technical support at last week's
low of $30.655. First resistance is seen at $32.00 and then
at today's high of $32.42. Next support is seen at $31.535
and then at today's low of $31.215. Wyckoff's Market
Rating: 5.0.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

Gold traders are the most bullish in nine months after investors’ bullion holdings expanded to a record on mounting speculation that central banks will do more to bolster economic growth.
Twenty-nine of 35 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg expect prices to rise next week and three were bearish. A further three were neutral, making the proportion of bulls the highest since Nov. 11. Investors bought 51.7 metric tons valued at $2.77 billion through gold-backed exchange-traded products this month, the most since November, overtaking France as the world’s fourth-largest hoard when compared with national reserves.

Data released yesterday showed Chinese manufacturing at its weakest since November, signaling the nation may need more action to rebound from six quarters of slowing growth. European leaders are still struggling to contain the debt crisis. Minutes of the Federal Reserve’s most recent meeting showed many policy makers favor more stimulus. Gold rose 70 percent as the Fed bought $2.3 trillion of debt in two rounds of quantitative easing from December 2008 through June 2011.

“Additional stimulus is inevitable, the question is how it comes,” said Charles Morris, who oversees about $2.5 billion of assets at HSBC Global Asset Management in London. “There’s no doubt about it, this is gold’s moment. All the long-term trend signals suggest that gold is in a very strong bull market.”

Gold’s Rally

Gold rose 6.8 percent to $1,669.30 an ounce in London this year, reaching a four-month high yesterday and extending 11 consecutive annual gains. The Standard & Poor’s GSCI gauge of 24 commodities advanced 4.6 percent and the MSCI All-Country World Index of equities added 8 percent. Treasuries returned 2 percent, a Bank of America Corp. index shows.

Gold ETP holdings overtook France’s reserves on Aug. 21 after rising 90.4 tons this year to 2,447.1 tons, data compiled by Bloomberg show. Only the U.S., Germany and Italy hold more, International Monetary Fund data show. The IMF itself holds 2,814 tons of bullion, placing it between Germany and Italy.

invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

US Dollar prices to Buy Gold fell from a new 2-week high of $1624 per ounce Thursday lunchtime as New York returned from the Fourth of July holiday, easing 0.5% lower as the Euro currency fell hard following a weakening of central-bank policy in Frankfurt, London and Beijing.

The European Central Bank today cut its key lending rate by 0.25% to a new record low of 0.75% as widely expected.

.

It also cut the interest rate paid to commercial banks holding cash on deposit at the ECB to zero.
European stock markets rose and commodity prices jumped on the news, pushing Brent crude oil back above $100 per barrel.
Silver Prices retreated 1.2% after hitting this week's high at $28.45 per ounce.

"Hold tight to gold ahead of QE3 [in the US]," says today's Global Daily Spotlight for clients of investment and bullion bank Société Générale, advising a "Strong Overweight" position in precious metals.,

"Our fundamental gold view is unchanged, and we still see upside for the metal," agrees the latest Commodities Daily from Standard Bank in London.
"We would see any potential sell-off in gold after [today's European rate] announcement as a short-term opportunity" to Buy Gold, the bank's analysts say.
Because "ultimately a rate cut implies a lower real interest rate. That would be bullish for gold."
The People's Bank of China today made a surprise cut to its deposit and lending rates, taking them down to 6% and 3% respectively, but defying analyst expectations for a cut to commercial lenders' required reserves ratios.

Consumer price inflation in China – now the world's #1 gold consumer – slowed to a 2-year low of 3.0% in May on the official measure.
UK investors and savers wanting to Buy Gold meantime saw the wholesale price rise through £1040 per ounce for the first time since mid-June after the Bank of England held its key lending at a record-low of 0.50% for the 40th month running but extending its Quantitative Easing by another £50 billion.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

Why You Should Invest in Gold
Investing in Gold has become increasingly important High Yield Investmentover the years, as the future of social security benefits becomes unknown.
People want to insure their futures, and they know that if they are depending on Social Security benefits, and in some cases retirement plans, that they may be in for a rude awakening when they no longer have the ability to earn a steady income. Investing is the answer to the unknowns of the future.
You may have been saving money in a low interest savings account over the years. Now, you want to see that money grow at a faster pace. Perhaps you’ve inherited money or realized some other type of windfall, and you need a way to make that money grow. Again, investing is the answer.

Investing in Gold is also a way of attaining the things that you want, such as a new home, a college education for your children, or expensive ‘toys.’ Of course, your financial goals will determine what type of investing you do.
If you want or need to make a lot of money fast, you would be more interested in higher risk investing, which will give you a larger return in a shorter amount of time. If you are saving for something in the far off future, such as retirement, you would want to make safer investments that grow over a longer period of time.
The overall purpose in investing is to create wealth and security, over a period of time. It is important to remember that you will not always be able to earn an income… you will eventually want to retire.
You also cannot count on the social security system to do what you expect it to do. As we have seen with Enron, you also cannot necessarily depend on your company’s retirement plan either. So, again, investing is the key to insuring your own financial future, but you must make smart investments!

Along the way, you may make a few investing mistakes, however there are big mistakes that you absolutely must avoid if you are to be a successful investor. For instance, the biggest investing mistake that you could ever make is to not invest at all, or to put off investing until later. Make your money work for you – even if all you can spare is $20 a week to invest!

While not investing at all or putting off investing until later are big mistakes, investing before you are in the financial position to do so is another big mistake. Get your current financial situation in order first, and then start investing. Get your credit cleaned up, pay off high interest loans and credit cards, and put at least three months of living expenses in savings. Once this is done, you are ready to start letting your money work for you.

Don’t invest to get rich quick. That is the riskiest type of investing that there is, and you will more than likely lose. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it! Instead, invest for the long term, and have the patience to weather the storms and allow your money to grow. Only invest for the short term when you know you will need the money in a short amount of time, and then stick with safe investments, such as certificates of deposit.

Don’t put all of your eggs into one basket. Scatter it around various types of investments for the best returns. Also, don’t move your money around too much. Let it ride. Pick your investments carefully, invest your money, and allow it to grow – don’t panic if the stock drops a few dollars. If the stock is a stable stock, it will go back up.

A common mistake that a lot of people make is thinking that their investments in collectibles will really pay off. Again, if this were true, everyone would do it. Don’t count on your Coke collection or your book collection to pay for your retirement years! Count on investments made with cold hard cash instead.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

Investing Basics – What Are Your Investment Goals

Investing Basics – What Are Your Investment Goals

When it comes to investing, many first time investors want to jump right in with both feet. Unfortunately, very few of those investors are successful. Investing in anything requires some degree of skill. It is important to remember that few investments are a sure thing – there is the risk of losing your money!

Before you jump right in, it is better to not only find out more about investing and how it all works, but also to determine what your goals are. What do you hope to achieve with your investments? Will you be funding a college education? Buying a home? Retiring? Before you invest a single penny, really think about what you hope to achieve with that investment. Knowing what your goal is will help you make smarter investment decisions along the way!

Too often, people invest money with dreams of becoming rich overnight. This is possible – but it is also rare. It is usually a very bad idea to start investing with hopes of becoming rich overnight. It is safer to invest your money in such a way that it will grow slowly over time, and be used for retirement or a child’s education. However, if your investment goal is to get rich quick, you should learn as much about high-yield, short term investing as you possibly can before you invest.

You should strongly consider talking to a financial planner before making any investments. Your financial planner can help you determine what type of investing you must do to reach the financial goals that you have set. He or she can give you realistic information as to what kind of returns you can expect and how long it will take to reach your specific goals.

Again, remember that investing requires more than calling a broker and telling them that you want to buy stocks or bonds. It takes a certain amount of research and knowledge about the market if you hope to invest successfully.
Gold is One of the best-kept secrets of a successful retirement plan is the significant advantage presented by the rather simple strategy of diversification of one’s retirement funds. The more one can hedge against the effects of a possible decline in the purchasing power of an entirely US dollar-based portfolio, the higher the probability that hard-earned retirement assets will be preserved mostly intact for the long-run

The US Dollar’s loss of purchasing power parity due to the effects of inflation has been a feature of US economic reality ever since the time of the Great Depression. Economic growth without inflation has been a noble policy goal. However, the methods used to achieve such growth have stimulated demand through the creation of large deficits and has resulted in sizeable increases in the money supply.

As a consequence, the Dollar's purchasing power has declined throughout the years, and continues to do so. Have your IRA portfolio assets kept up with this insidious process of wealth erosion through inflation? This is why it is essential that a portion of your retirement nest egg should be placed into assets that are relatively immune from the negative consequences of a falling Dollar.

There exist a wide variety of precious metals, ,foreign currency, and real estate products that your retirement portfolio may contain. Such assets have historically offered a greater degree of diversification (in terms of asset classes and geography) and capital preservation potential than is normally available by investing only in ordinary, dollar-based assets such as stocks and bonds.

Gold, for example, has functioned as true money for nearly six millennia. Since the dawn of time, only about 145,000 tons of gold have been brought to the light of day. That figure, while seemingly quite large, represents a golden cube of less than twenty cubic meters! The remaining supply of gold available to mankind is a little less than half as much, or about 50,000 tons.

Gold is a finite physical asset that is accumulated, rather than consumed. As a result, virtually all the gold that has ever been mined still exists today in one form or another. Gold is simultaneously thought of as a commodity and as a monetary asset. Most commodities are consumed, or otherwise irretrievably lost. Gold, however, is accumulated –obviously, its main attraction appears to be that of a store of value.

Since gold cannot be printed at will, it preserves wealth better than most paper assets. Gold generally moves in the opposite direction of declining equities or paper currencies. Studies show that incorporating gold into a ‘normal’ mix of retirement assets tends to reduce the level of overall risk, may enhance overall performance, certainly adds an enhanced degree of liquidity, and it efficiently diversifies the portfolio.

Think of gold in your retirement account in the same way you think about owning a home or life insurance policy. It is a simple, yet effective means of buying peace of mind for the future. This is why gold for your golden years makes sense.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

Gold bulls claim price could double to $3,000 in five years

Gold bulls claim price could double to $3,000 in five years

Gold bulls claim price could double to $3,000 in five years
Fears that American, British and other governments intend to inflate their way off the rocks of excessive debt prompted record inflows into gold this week.

Now some fund managers claim the price could more than double to $3,000 (£2,080) per ounce within five years.

Heavily indebted governments throughout the developed world are struggling to fill deficits of black-hole dimensions in public finances by imposing spending cuts and tax rises. Both are expected in Britain's emergency Budget on June 22 and neither will be popular.

But keeping interest rates lower than inflation and letting the currency take the strain is another way to reduce the real value of debt. You can see why politicians may feel that is the ''least worst'' option.

Governments can devalue their own currencies, but it is harder for them to make more gold. That fact helped prompt record inflows of $484m (£336m) into gold exchange-traded commodities this week, while gold trading volumes peaked at $2.1bn (£1.45bn).

However, the precious metal is not a one-way bet and it slipped back below $1,200 (£830) on Thursday as some investors took profits amid anxiety about an unsustainable bubble in the gold price.

"Against this backdrop, the gold price could go much higher than these already elevated levels. It wouldn't be too far fetched to see it rising above $2,000, or even up to $3,000."

strategy is based on the belief that things that emerging markets sell will fall in price over the next five years, while things that emerging markets buy will rise in price.

The explanation is that demand from the heavily indebted developed world may remain subdued, while demand from largely debt-free consumers in emerging markets will rise.

"Gold is setting record highs in almost every currency, despite headwinds including a strong dollar and monetary tightening in India and China, the main end markets for gold. Today's economic environment makes gold a must in any client portfolio.

"Interest rates are at historically low levels; central banks are bailing out the system; we have seen a huge amount of quantitative easing; currencies being debased and governments around the world are short of money.

Nothing goes up in a straight line, indeed there are signs that gold may be becoming over-owned and too fashionable in the short term, but I think that over the long term gold is a good asset to hang on to. It could easily reach $2,000 per ounce within the next five years," Mr Robinson said.

"Gold always does well in times of uncertainty, and this week is no exception. Lingering concerns over the Greek bail-out, uncertainty over global economic growth, and an inconclusive election result in Britain have all created nervousness in stock markets, and risk-averse investors are looking to gold as a store of value.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

business opportunity review 2

business opportunity review 2

aswell as the repair business another booming niche is private investigation.
* Two penny share gold explorers in ‘bonanza’ territory

Dear Reader,

Last week provided an extraordinary demonstration of the power of penny shares to increase your wealth.

It was all about Solomon Gold (ticker: SOLG). Shares in the company, which were trading at just 10p at the start of last Monday, suddenly took off. They reached 85p on Thursday – a whopping 750% gain – before running into some profit-taking and closing the week at 44p.

The reason for this spectacular jump? Mineral samples taken from the island of Fauro in the Solomon Islands have revealed some exceptionally high grades of gold.

That would have been exciting enough. But this came in a week in which the gold price soared to $1,300 – an all-time high. The timing of Solomon’s breakthrough was perfect, landing on a market eager to snap up any crumb of good news from the gold sector.

In a moment, I’ll show you another way you could make some great profits from penny shares in the gold sector.

But first, why is the gold price rising? There is no shortage of theories. China wants to boost its gold reserves. Investors have lost faith in paper currencies. Rising inflation means that bond yields and cash deposit rates offer negative returns. And, as is usual at times like this, there is no shortage of fervent gold bulls, talking up the price to $2,000 or even beyond...

We’ll see about that. When the oil price hit $150, Goldman Sachs famously predicted a $200 price – and not the $79 we see today. It pays to hold tight to your seat at a time like this and not get too carried away.

But the fact remains that gold’s bull run shows no signs of coming to an end. And this has crucial implications for the gold mining sector.

The yellow metal had come under pressure over recent weeks amid fading inflation expectations as increasingly lackluster US economic data trimmed investors’ expectations for recovery in America and the world at large, particularly as other engines of expansion also falter. Indeed, debt-cutting measures and rising financing costs promise to keep Europe sidelined for the foreseeable future, Japan remains mired in deflation, and China is stepping up efforts to slow its buoyant growth amid fears of overheating.

On balance, this translated into a tepid outlook for price growth, eroding investors’ demand for an inflation hedge that had driven gold prices higher through 2009 and the beginning of this year. Indeed, the US 2-year breakeven rate, the spread between nominal and inflation-adjusted 2-year Treasury yields, has dropped to a nine-month low, hinting traders are betting on decidedly weak price growth for the time being. Fittingly, the 20-day correlation between the 2-year breakeven and spot gold has jumped to 0.86, the highest since late April.

Looking ahead, the start of the US corporate earnings season and a wealth of top-tier economic data including retail sales and CPI should take the spotlight. US fundamentals have taken a notable turn for the worse in recent months, with more of the same expected in the near term, while companies are likely to trim their profit forecasts amid expectations of a worldwide slowdown in the pace of recovery. Taken together, this should prove to weigh further still on inflation expectations, encouraging renewed enthusiasm among the bears and pushing gold prices lower.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man

POKER TIPS 2010: TOP 10 POKER TIPS

POKER TIPS 2010: TOP 10 POKER TIPS
Want to become a better player, fast?

Gold In the past couple of months, gold has caught the imagination of everyone. The consistent rise in its prices has been too lucrative to ignore. In the past three years, prices have risen from Rs 8,690 (per 10g) to Rs 18,880 — a rise of 117.2 per cent. In the past three months, the rise has been 13.22 per cent.

Obviously, financial experts are enthused. “Gold can be used for three things — ensuring liquidity, hedging and taking a loan. Depending on a person’s risk profile, I would advise a person to have 15-20 per cent exposure to it,”

Even mutual funds (MFs) want to tap the metal’s potential. In May, Religare Mutual Fund launched a monthly income plan that invests in equity, debt and gold. Canara Robeco has launched a debt plus gold product, Canara Robeco InDiGo.

There are also companies that are aggressively offering gold loans. Mannapuram Finance, Muthoot Finance and HDFC Bank are advertising the product by pointing out that the rate of interest is much lower than in personal loans. Then, 4g and 5g gold coins are gaining prominence. And, gold funds and exchange-traded funds (ETF) have been there for the past few years.

So, given the euphoria around gold, what should you do as an investor or a loan seeker? Let’s look at these products in a little detail.

Mutual funds: A gold fund or an ETF is, by all means, a great portfolio diversifier. The returns have also been impressive. In the past month, gold ETFs have returned 4.65 per cent, slightly lower than the 5.3 per cent category average of FMCG funds. Over the past three months, it has returned around 9.8 per cent. Over one and three years, it has returned 24.4 per cent and 27.1 per cent, respectively. The latter was the best performer among all MF categories.

The two gold mining funds — DSP Black World Gold Fund and AIG World Gold — have given annual returns of 14.75 and 22.45 per cent, respectively. Financial experts say both ETFs and mining funds are good portfolio diversifiers. Allocate 10-20 per cent of your portfolio in these schemes. This would help you hedge if equity markets were to slip. This is especially true in these uncertain times, when stock markets are susceptible to shocks from the European crisis.

Newer funds that try to combine gold with equity and debt are avoidable. “I would advise this product to someone who wants to make regular investments in gold. But, since ETFs do not have a systematic investment plan option, this could be one way of portfolio diversification. So, separate investments in gold, debt and equity are preferable,” said Suresh Sadagopan, director, Ladder 7 Financial Advisory.

Gold coins: Again, a good option and preferable over jewellery. With banks coming out with coins of lesser weight – 4g, 5g – even small investors can purchase gold. And, business has been robust. During the week before Akshaya Tritiya, HDFC Bank sold 650 kg of gold as against 360 kg they sold last year during the same time period — a rise of 80.5 per cent.

Banks, however, charge a premium for purity and certification. For instance, on Tuesday, gold prices (for 10g) were at Rs 19,050. HDFC Bank’s gold coins of 10g cost Rs 22,716 — a difference of Rs 3,836. Similarly, buying from the State Bank of India would cost Rs 20, 695 — a premium of Rs 1,815. Also, since banks cannot buy back gold, given the Reserve Bank of India guidelines, buyers have to sell to jewellers.

Buyers of gold have the option of purchasing from the commodity exchanges as well. And opt for the delivery option. If you are lucky, the prices in the futures market will be lower than spot prices, thereby allowing you to pocket a neat profit.

Financial advisors feel that instead of jewellery, it makes more sense to invest in coins because of the 20-25 per cent making cost of jewellery. The sale price, as a result, might be lower to that extent.

Gold loans: The product has seen a lot of action recently. Both banks and non-banking financial institutions are aggressively advertising this product. The rates are also lower as compared to personal loans. HDFC Bank, for instance, charges 12-15.5 per cent for a gold loan. Mannapuram Finance charges 1-2.1 per cent per month, but has an interesting way of calculating the interest rate. That is, the rate of interest is dependent on the amount paid per gram. That is, if Rs 1,200 is paid per g, the rate of interest is one per cent. As the amount per g goes up, so does the interest rate. In comparison, personal loans start at 12-13 per cent. Most people have to borrow at above 18 per cent. According to Debnath, gold loans are a better option than personal loans or credit cards.
invest in gold its the safest investment vehicle known to man
