Gilding Videos

A short video clip is now viewable at www.gildingstudio.com, the first in an upcoming series that demonstrates various aspects of gold leaf gilding. This first clip shows how genuine 23k gold leaf is handled in the gilder's pad. The pad, made of wood, leather, and parchment is one of the gilder's tools that provides a place to keep the gold leaf while working on a project. The parchment forms a windshield to offer a barrier to help prevent draughts from blowing the leaf from the pad. The gilder's knife is used to manipulate the leaf into place and to cut it into sections while the 'Tip', a flat, brush-like tool, is used to pick up the gold or silver leaf for placement on the object to be gilded.
