Golf Betting Preview - Tiger Woods World Challenge

Tiger Woods and 17 other players will be chasing a purse of $4-million when they tee off in the World Challenge Golf Tournament which begins today. Woods is the defending champion of the four-day event which takes place in Sherwood Country Club and benefits Woods’ charities.

U.S.Open winner Webb Simpson will compete in this year’s event and is 22/1 to win, along with Masters Champion Bubba Watson who can be backed at 18/1 to win the four day tournament. Woods edged out Zach Johnson in dramatic fashion in this tournament last year, and its sure to be another exciting event this year, with Johnson priced at 14/1 for the win this time.

Of course Woods is the favourite to win priced at 13/5 and as the defending champ that’s only right. Going up against Tiger are former World Challenger winners Jim Furyk, who took the 2009 crown and is third favourite to win again at 12/1 and Graeme McDowell who defeated Tiger Woods in a playoff to win the event in 2010, though he’s not expected to do well here pre tournament and is priced at 28/1 in golf betting to win it outright.

English golfer Ian Poulter is also involved in Thousand Oaks this week, and will no doubt try to continue his incredible Ryder Cup performances here, he’s not a massive outsider either at 12/1. Woods’ Ryder Cup teammate Jason Dufner also goes up against him in this tournament and he is the second favourite to come away with the crown here priced at 11/1. It’s safe to say though whatever happens in California, its set to be an exciting tournament and throws up lots of interesting golf betting opportunities.

The golf season’s finale began this morning in Dubai, with the DP World Tour Championship featuring a strong field. Rory McIlroy has lead our golf betting as our favourite to win but since play has began this morning he has shifted to second favourite. McIlroy is going against some quality players and despite already securing the Race To Dubai crown it does not mean to say he will win this tournament.

McIlroy is entering the tournament on top form however having won both the European and the US money titles this season, along with four tournament titles including the USPGA Championship. McIlroy was the second player ever to win both money titles in the same season and has cemented his position as the world number one, so he will be a tough player to face. McIlroy is currently at 6/1 to win the DP World Tour Championship in our in-play golf betting. However Luke Donald is the only other golfer to have won both money titles in the same season and will be giving McIlroy a run for his money here.

Donald is currently at 5/2 to win in in-play golf betting and the world number two is also entering the tournament in excellent form. He enjoyed a taste of victory in Japan last week and is currently our favourite to secure a win here too. Donald has lost both money list titles and the number one spot to McIlroy this season but he has still had an impressive year, and he could well be ending it on a high with a win here.

Martin Kaymer is another potential player to win the DP World Tour Championship, currently at odds of 9/1 to do so. Kaymer has suffered his first barren year since 2007 but he should not be written off, and the former world number one has played relatively well despite not securing the titles.

Englishman Ian Poulter is also worth a mention, despite currently being at 40/1 to win in our in-play golf betting. Since the incredible Ryder Cup win for Europe Poulter has finished fourth, second and first in his last three tournaments and he could do well here. A win here would see Poulter back in the top ten for the first time in almost two years and he could come out fighting.

The DP World Tour Championship should be an exciting event with some superb players featuring. The golfers should all be keen to secure a high finish in the season’s finale in order to end their year on a good note, and it should be an entertaining tournament.

The European and Asian Tours combine this week for the Hong Kong Open; a significant tournament due to how close it is to the Dubai Tour Championship next week.

The Hong Kong Open has attracted some notable names, in particular world Number One Rory McIlroy, who will be looking to seal yet another win since taking both the European and US money titles this season. The defending champion has had an outstanding run of results recently and is entering this tournament in terrific form. McIlroy is our unsurprising 5/2 favourite in golf betting and all eyes will be on him here. Other players should be expecting a challenge here and will have to come out with their best form.

Matt Kuchar will be looking to do well in the tournament and is playing on invitation. Kuchar is making his Hong Kong debut in a rare appearance outside the USA, and could well be a threat to McIlroy. Kuchar’s last win was in the Players Championship in May but he has since played well, and he can be backed to win at 16/1 in golf betting.

Another potential contender for the win is Matteo Manassero who returned to winning ways in Singapore last week. Great things were expected of Manassero when he first turned professional and he looked to be a rising star, but he has struggled in recent times with a frustrating run of results. However last week he lifted the trophy in the Singapore Open after coming out on top in a thrilling play-off against Louis Oosthuzien, and he seems to have got back on track. Manassero is at 18/1 to win in golf betting and the Italian can be backed to take a top five finish at odds of 9/2. Manassero finished runner up two years ago and could do well again this time round.

Englishman Paul Casey could also do well here, as he has finished in the top ten in his last three appearances; tying in tenth last week in Singapore, taking sixth in the BMW Masters and fifth in the Perth International. His notable finishes could see him do well here in the Hong Kong Open, and he can be backed to take a top five finish at 11/2 in golf betting, and a top ten finish at 9/4.

Some other players worth mentioning are Y.E Yang, Paul Lawrie, John Daly, Padraig Harrington and Micheal Campbell, who have all taken wins in Major Championships before. Campbell has recently been playing well but is at 25/1 to have a top five finish, whereas Yang is at 11/2 in golf betting. Lawrie and Harrington can both be backed to have a top five finish at odds of 6/1, with Daly at a large 40/1 in the same market. World number one Rory McIlroy is taking part in the Singapore Open for the first time, in his bid to win both money titles in the same season. He recently won the US PGA money title, and a strong showing in this tournament would see him secure the European money title as well. McIlroy will be looking to equal Luke Donald won both in 2011 and was the first player ever to do so.

McIlroy is our 4/1 favourite to win the Singapore Open but a strong field has assembled and he will need to play on top form here. This event has long been a part of the Asian Tour but in 2009 joined the European Tour, and has since been won by Ian Poulter, Adam Scott and Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano. Scott has won the tournament an impressive three times and is at 13/2 in golf betting to win this time, and is our second favourite to do so.

Scott, who is regarded as the most successful player in the history of the event, last won the Singapore Open in 2010 and he is entering this year’s event in top form. He has taken top ten finishes in three of the last four PGA tournaments he has entered and is at odds of 9/10 in golf betting to have a top ten finish here. He recently finished eighth in the HSBC Champions and can be backed to do better here with a top five finish at 2/1.

Scott will be McIlroy’s main competitor for the win here, but McIlroy only needs a top ten finish to secure the European money title. He is at odds of 4/9 in golf betting to secure the crucial top ten finish and should be more than capable of doing so after having such a strong season. He recently came from four strokes back to win the HSBC Champions which saw him shoot from thirteenth to fourth in the money order, and he should do well here.

Some other strong contenders to win the Singapore Open include Phil Mickelson, Louis Oosthuizen and Padraig Harrington. Mickelson is a four time major winner and recently tied in second in the HSBC Champions. He is at 10/1 to win in golf betting and can be backed to have a top five finish at 12/5. Mickelson is a strong supporter of having PGA Tour presence in Asia so this tournament should be significant to him. Oosthuizen is at 11/1 to win the Singapore Open and Harrington is at 22/1.

Singapore’s most decorated golfer Mardan Mamat will be seeking success on home turf here, but he is at 250/1 to win. Mamat won the Singapore Open once before in 2006 and will be seeking repeat success this year. Although the two top players in the world will be absent from this tournament this week, there are a whole bunch of world class players involved in the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in China tomorrow. Seven of the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking players will go head-to-head along with ten players from the winning European Ryder Cup team. It’s set to be a cracker of a tournament and Luke Donald is our current favourite in golf betting for the win before it gets underway.

This is the fourth and final World Golf Championships event of the year and see’s two-time event champion Phil Mickelson also taking part. He’s priced at 20/1 to win the tournament for the third time this year. Keegan Bradley won the most recent World Golf Championship event prior to this one with victory at the Bridgestone Invitational and he can be backed at odds of 30/1 to win here.

Italy’s Francesco Molinari, a key part of the winning European Ryder Cup team, is also competing in China tomorrow. He won this competition in 2010 and is priced at 33/1 for victory in the tournament this time around. The competition will be played at a different venue this season though, having moved from Shanghai to Guangdong and the winner at Shanghai last year will be out for the double at this new course. Martin Kaymer isn’t ahead in early golf betting though and can currently be backed at odds of 28/1 for the win, though this will of course change once the tournament gets underway.

Number 3 in the world rankings Luke Donald, the current favourite, is priced at 10/1 to win the tournament outright. But will have to contest with Justin Rose who is second favourite at 13/1 to win after his victory at the Cadillac Championship. A top class field are out in force in the CIMB Classic tomorrow with big names such as Tiger Woods, Jason Dufner and Nick Watney competing. The tournament is held at the Mines Resort & Golf Club in Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia and is co-sanctioned by the PGA tour and the Asian tour. The first ever sanctioned by the PGA tour in Southeast Asia.

The CIMB Classic 2012 sees an impressive field of 48 players, with 30 from the PGA tour and the top 10 players from the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit making for some exciting golf betting. Tiger Woods is favourite to come away with the win at 10/3 in golf betting followed by Jason Dufner at 15/2. 2012 BMW Masters Preview

Eleven of Europe’s twelve winning Ryder Cup players will be competing in the BMW Masters on Wednesday, which has accumulated an extremely strong field. The golfing event of the week first began only last year and is being held at Lake Malaren in Shanghai. It is now part of the European Tour schedule and should be an entertaining tournament.

Defending champion and world number one Rory McIlroy is favourite to win, at odds of 9/2 in golf betting. McIlroy is in great form and will be looking to bag a BMW double after winning the BMW Championship just last month. Golf Betting Preview - The McGladrey Classic

The McGladrey Classic is the third tournament in the PGA Autumn series, and is relatively new with the first taking place only two years ago. The tournament is played in Georgia, USA and last years champion Ben Crane will once again compete. The tournament begins on Thursday running through to Sunday and will be an interesting one for golf enthusiasts who wish to get involved with golf betting on this tournament.

The seaside course at Sea Island Golf Club will also have the 2010 winner present in the field Heath Slocum though neither him nor Crane feature in early golf betting prior to this tournament. Crane is at 33/1 to win again this year and Slocum is even more of an outsider at 45/1 but that could all change once the tournament gets underway.

Prior to the beginning of the tournament Zach Johnson is the favourite at 11/1. The American won the John Deere Classic and Crowne Plaza Invitational this year and won the Masters in 2007 he will be keen to impress on a home course. The Australian summer of golf begins on Thursday with the inaugural Perth International, which is the most valued golf tournament in Australia. It has attracted names such as world number nine Jason Dufner and 2011 Master champion Charl Schwartzel to headline the 156-strong field.

The tournament will also be featuring some rising stars such as Australians Matt Griffin, Ashley Hall and Keiran Pratt, who will be looking to boost their golf careers with a win on home ground. Griffin was the winner of OneAsia this year, and was once ranked the third-best amateur in the world. Griffin can be backed at odds of 66/1 to win the Perth International and at 6/1 for the perhaps more realistic result of a top ten finish.

Other players to keep an eye on include world number 24 Bo Van Pelt, who came second in the A&T National earlier in the year. He can be backed to have a top five finish at odds of 11/10 and he is joint second favourite to win at 6/1 in Perth International golf betting.

Former world number three Paul Casey should not be overlooked, after showing an encouraging display at the KLM Open and playing well in the Ryder Cup. He didn’t make it through to the final however, but can be backed to take a top ten finish in the Perth International at odds of 3/1, and a top five finish at 5/1.

Perth native Brett Rumford, a three time winner on the European Tour, could also be one to watch. He took second in the Johnnie Walker Championship in August and can be backed to win the Perth International at odds of 30/1. The real fight for the win however is likely to be between Dufner and Schwartzel, the favourite and joint second favourite to win in Perth International golf betting. Dufner holds the favourite position to win the Perth International after capturing a major last year and showing good form in the US PGA Championship, which has carried through to this year. He won twice on the US Tour in the space of a few weeks in May and Dufner can be backed to win the Perth International at odds of 5/1.

Dufner’s main competitor seems to be Schwartzel, although he is joint second favourite to win with Van Pelt who are both at odds of 6/1 in Perth International golf betting. Schwartzel has had a rocky year, dropping from sixth ranked to the mid-thirties, however he showed good form in the World Final Matchplay in Turkey last week. He will be looking to repeat the four birdies in the final four holes he produced to take the Master’s Green Jacket last year, and he can be backed to take a top five finish in the Perth International at odds of 11/10.

World number one Rory McIlroy says he would love to finish on top of the European money list for the first time and remains confident despite his failure to reach the semi-final stage of the inaugural of the World Golf Final in Turkey this week. US PGA winner McIlroy is already assured of topping the standings on the United States Tour after four wins.

The two time Major winner said "The big goal is just to keep my level up and try to win the Race to Dubai. If I can win it this time it would be a great way to cap off a great season."

The 23-year-old has never won the European 'Race to Dubai' standings, finishing runner-up in 2009 and 2011. However, he is currently £346,000 ahead of Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose, who faces Tiger Woods in the World Golf semi-final today.

South Africa's Branden Grace leapt from 12th to third in the European list with his fifth victory of the season in the Alfred Dunhill Championship last Sunday. Although he is a further £276,000 back, there remains enough money on offer for him to complete an unbelievable campaign.

The PGA Tour finds itself in California tomorrow with the start of the Frys.com Open. Golf enthusiasts will know that this tournament is fairly new to the venue of CordeValle Golf Club arriving in 2010. Ernie Els is really the class of the field with not many other top golfers featuring. He’s leading the early golf betting for this tournament at 16/1 to win it outright along with Nicolas Colsaerts who’s also priced at 16/1.

Although a relatively weak tournament it still throws up some thrills and makes for exciting golf betting opportunities. One to watch is Bud Cauley, he hasn’t featured in a golf tournament since the BMW Championship though and may be a bit rusty but eager to show what he can do. He’s priced at 18/1 to win the tournament outright and he finished third last year so will be keen on improving this time around.

It may be worth keeping a close eye on Swede Jonas Blixt too. He’s done well in his rookie year and was leading after 54 holes last week in Las Vegas, he could feature here after making good progress and is priced at 25/1 for the win. Luke Guthrie is close behind at 28/1 and a bit of an underdog. He finished T-19 in the St.Jude Classic, and owns six top-10s in eight starts this year so could quite easily do well here.

Vijay Singh will be a worthwhile bet in golf betting although his last victory was four years ago and injuries have played their part on Vijay he is finally back to full fitness. He's only had four top-10s this year but will be expecting to feature here with three of his top-10s coming since the Open Championship and as a result he closely follows Els, Cauley and Colsaerts in golf betting for victory at 18/1.

2012 Portugal Masters Preview

The Portugal Masters is this weeks’ European golf tournament, seeing some big names taking part. It is taking place in the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura and with only seven events left until the season finale it is an important tournament. The top 60 in the Order of Merit are able to play in the Dubai World Championships; the European Tour climax, so players will be hoping to find some decent form to earn themselves a spot.

Some golf stars have already secured their place, such as Martin Kaymer and Francesco Molinari, the two Ryder Cup players in the tournament. Molinari is our 12/1 favourite to win the Portugal Masters and Kaymer can be backed at 16/1. Molinari looks to be on top form after securing the half-point that gave Europe the surprise win in the Ryder Cup, and has previously finished second in this event in 2010 and 2011.

Eyes will also be on Kaymer in this tournament, and whilst he is a European hero after holing the putt that retained the Ryder Cup, his form since has been average. However he can be backed at odds of 4/1 to secure a top five finish in the Portugal Masters.

The second of the Molinari brothers, Edoardo Molinari, will also be taking a shot at lifting the trophy, and has made the cut in each of the five years the tournament has taken place. He can be backed at odds of 60/1 to win the Portugal Masters, and a more likely result of a top five finish at odds of 16/1. After finishing just two shots behind the winner in 2009 and 2010 he is one to watch.

The defending champion Tom Lewis will be looking to relive his memorable win last year, but after recording just one round in the 60s since April, hopes are not high. He can be backed at large odds of 150/1 to win this time round and is at 14/1 for a top ten finish in Portugal Masters betting.

Alexander Noren is another player to have made the cut in each of the five Portugal Masters so far and can be backed at 4/1 for a top five finish in this year’s event, and Danny Willett should also be considered. US captain Davis Love III has warned Europe's players to expect a fiery reception from the packed home galleries as his team battle to win back the Ryder Cup. Love came up against Olazabal five times as players in the competition and won just one of those. But he rebuffed suggestions that he has set up the Medinah course to favour his team.

He said "How do you get an advantage? We have 24 of the best players in the world. They are all pretty good at adapting to conditions. One thing I've never liked is rough. But the fans want to see a little excitement. They want to see birdies. We want to let these unbelievable athletes free-wheel it a little bit and just play. Medinah is such a big, long golf course and I don't think we wanted a lot of rough."
