The UCF men's golf team has headed to California to participate in one of the nation's premier events - The Prestige at PGA WEST. The two-day, 16-team tournament begins Monday in La Quinta, Calif.
Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday at the Greg Norman Course at PGA WEST.
The event is hosted by UC Davis and Stanford. Six participating squads are ranked in the top-30 nationally according to Golfweek: Washington (4), Stanford (12), Michigan State (17), California (21), Pepperdine (25) and Colorado (3).
The Knights have not been in action since Sept. 19-21, when they competed at the Olympia Fields Illini Invitational in Illinois. The Prestige at PGA WEST will serve as the squad's third event of the season. Read more...

It is very important that you have an understanding of golf etiquette. This will ensure that you and those around you get the most out of their golf experience.

This article outlines 14 rules of golf relating to golf etiquette that you should follow:

1. Make sure that nobody is going to get hit by your club when you are taking a practice swing or taking a shot.

2. Make sure all players up ahead are aware that you are about to hit the ball and that they are out of range.

3. If after you hit the ball, you think a player is in danger of being hit or the ball is going to land close to them, yell out "Fore!". This warns the players to be on the lookout for your ball and could save somebody a nasty headache.

4. Make sure you stand well back from a player when they are taking a shot. Do not talk, cough or move in a way that could distract them. Make sure that you are not in their field of vision and your shadow is not distracting them. You should also make sure that your mobile phone is set to silent during your golf game, or even better, leave your phone at home and totally immerse yourself in the game.

5. Wait until the other playing group is out of range before playing your shot. On a short hole, this may mean that you wait until they move onto the next hole.

6. In order to keep the game flowing smoothly, you should take your shot without delay.

7. You should also walk at a quick pace between shots so that you minimize the delays of other groups playing behind you.

8. If you have a faster group behind you, wave them through and move out of the way. This enhances the golfing experience and reduces frustration for both parties.

9. If you have lost your ball, you should also wave through the group behind you.

10. Rake and smooth over the sand bunker after you have played your shot. This includes removing your footprints. Make sure you also leave the rake facing down to reduce injury to other players.

11. Only walk on the green when you are playing your shot. When you are taking your shot, walk on the green carefully so that you minimize and damage.

12. Replace any divots that you create when you are playing a stroke. What is a divot? A divot is when your club removes a chunk of grass when you play a shot.

13. Make sure you place the flag in the hole before moving onto the next hole.

14. Golf etiquette also includes psychology tricks. Which includes putting the other player down or making comments like "Wow! If you get this in the hole you will get an eagle." Some groups like this friendly banter, just make sure you all have an understanding of the limits.
