Starkly dissimilar to other sports is the fact that golf is contested without a fair and just umpire. Consequently, playing the sport entails honesty, integrity, consideration for fellow golfers and the unshakeable stance to abide by the rules. Regardless of individual aspirations and aggressiveness, every golfer should internalise the need to remain disciplined, refined and portray sportsmanship at all instances. All the above values should be embodied and treated like an integral part of the game.

Golfers should always make sure that the close proximity surrounding a swing is clear of people. The club, ball, pebbles and stones or debris should never be allowed to hit anyone during a stroke. Players should always ensure that there is no obstruction in front of them before a swing. If in any circumstance a golfer feels that a stroke might encroach into someone’s safety, the greens marshal should always be alerted. Such a warning is normally known as “fore”.

The code of conduct on the greens requires golfers to be considerate and not distract others with wilful behaviour such as loud conversations and unnecessary movement. A player should only be teeing when it’s his/her turn. Golfers should never be too close to the ball, hole or player when they are about to swing.

Whilst putting, golfers should never stand in another’s line of sight or “shadow” the putt trajectory. Everyone should remain on the putting green until the rest have finished their pars as an act of courtesy. If players are score-keepers for one another, they should always tally up for each other before moving onto the next tee.

The rhythm and pace of the game should always be accommodating to all players irrespective of level and nature of the game-play. The flight has responsibility to catch the other directly in front of it and if holes are missed or if there is any material delay, the group should always advise the trailing one to go ahead and skip the queue. This holds regardless of how big the flight/group may be.

Swinging readiness should always be practiced insofar as players should always be alert to their turn. When playing at the last stages of the par hole, one should always leave possessions and vehicles in locations where a quick exit to the next tee is possible. As soon as the hole is completed golfers should leave the putting green immediately.

Proper Grip

The effectiveness of your swing depends largely on the way you hold your golf club. As such, always remember that an effective golf swing begins with a proper grip of the golf club. Proper grip of the golf club does not mean holding the club tightly. It only means gripping the club with enough force that will assist you in a free and complete swing of the club.

Proper Stance

This in another important aspect that you need to consider while learning how to hit a Driver. For a proper stance you need to keep your feet shoulder distance apart. Your head should be facing downwards to the ground and your eyes should be fixed on the golf ball.

Your back should be straight enough.

When you are executing your backswing it is advisable that you do not swing your hips or lift your head. This is because the power of the drive is within your torso and shoulders. Moving your hips or shoulder will result in disturbing the acquired force. Just swing the club through with a firm stroke. Do not attempt to hit the ball with all your force.

Relaxation

After you have struck the golf ball you need to have a good follow through with your action. Following your action through a relaxed stance and posture during playing a golf shot is another important golf swing instruction. If you are playing with the left hand make sure to rotate your left foot up onto the toe while keeping your right foot firmly planted on the ground. This motion will help in controlling your shoot and also helps in improve golf slice.

To become a great putter, the perfect combination of shoulders and arms should be used throughout the entire putt. Any wrist action involved is through the motion of the weight of the putter. That wobbly wrist action is transmitted down to the putter face and the ball will go just about anywhere when contact is made. Anywhere except where you want to go, that is.

During your putt, concentrate on your shoulders. On the backswing, your left shoulder naturally moves down and your right shoulder naturally moves up, like a pendulum. When you focus on your shoulders as if they were a clock works, your backswing becomes fluid. Your left wrist should stay nice and firm throughout this motion. In order to set up the putting grip, first place the grip in the palm of your left hand, and your entire hand around the grip. Place your right hand underneath your left, in a similar palm grip. Now, overlap your right hand with your left index finger. Your palms should be opposite to one another, for a nice locked-in feeling. When setting up to address the ball, make sure your eyes are over the ball, specifically your left eye (if you are a right hand golfer).

Bend your knees slightly, and hang your arms over the ball. Shift your weight slightly forward on your left foot, favoring the left side of your body. Your hands should also be slightly forward in your stance. Before making your stroke, make sure your arms, shoulders, knees and feet are all parallel with your target line. Notice I said target line. This doesn’t mean the hole but rather the path that the ball needs to travel in order to get to the hole.

There is a standard rule of thumb for putting that usually works, but depends on the terrain, so adjust accordingly. For a five foot putt, bring your putter back five inches, and then follow through five inches. Keep all these elements intact, and you should see improved putting in no time.
