People Who were Kind to Me

As Guinever likes to tease me, I am a linerar thinker so I like to order these sort of memories chronological for the most part. I do jump around a little bit. But on the topic of who has been kind to me. I feel I must begin early because the list is so long. As a little boy, under 6, and until I was old enough to fend for myself, my mother had a babysitter who looked after us while she and my dad taught school. The two women were Mary Walker and Minetta Huber. Mary's husband was Roscoe. He was a janitor at the high school where my dad taught. He was a very kind man as was Mary a kind grandmother type. They had one son, Neil of whom they were very proud as he was an excellent student at the top of his class. These women made two things that have persisted in my life as favorite deserts. THe first is red velvet cake which she made with multiple layers for birthdays. Mary made this and it was heavenly. Minetta made a desert called "Cherry Delight". It was wonderful too. Graham cracker crust, with a bed of sweet cream cheese covered by cherries some cherrie jel. Whipped cream atop it. OMG. Minetta had a son, Billy Huber who was not such a great student. He resented my presence I suspect. He went on to become the chief of police for Sellersburg for a few years. Then at some point he faded from public life. I don't know what happened to him. Well, I started off for kindergarten. 5 years old and a half of a day at the school. What I remember in the way of kindness was a fellow kindergartener named Clinnie Kincaid patiently taught me how to tie my own shoes. Clinnie and I did not continue through the years as great friends or anything. He was an excellent musician and learned how to play rock and roll guitar and drifted into a different group than I hung with. But I have always always had a place in my heart for this kindness he showed me Next in my life was my second grade teacher. Mrs. Wells. She was a saintly woman. She certainly knew just how to handle 2nd graders. With kindness and love she taught us the basic building blocks. We had learned to read in first grade and now we were becoming better readers as we went along. But here is the thing. She lit a fire in me that has I burned all of my lifeand made me a lifelong reader. She achieved this by reading "Charlotte's Web" by EB White. It was a special time of the day when we would put our books and notepads down. She would read a chapter a day from the book. I can't overstate how enchanted I was with this book. I loved Wilbur and Charlotte was so wonderful...I think I saw Mrs. Wells as a kind of Charlotte. When the end of the book came, and Charlotte died. I cryed. Then came the renewal of life as Wilbur watched her children hatch and send up their little kite webs and fly away...but one or two stayed to be friends with Wilbur. I loved this story. After the book was done...a day or two passed and I realized how much I missed not being in Wilbur and Charlotte's world. I asked Mrs. Wells if I could borrow her copy and read it over myself. She allowed me this privilege and I read my first book. THIS changed my life. Mildred Wells. So very kind to me. I have been an avid reader ever since that day. I will always love Mrs. Wells. Another gracious and kind woman to me was Ruby Funk. My wife's maternal grandmother. Ruby was a widow when I started dating Guinever. She was kind enough , when we were just starting dating, to invite us to vacation with her in Boca Raton. I was still a young man and not used to being treated as an adult by 'real' adults. But, I will never forget how after Guinever and I spent the morning on the beach outside the condo, we came in for lunch. Ruby served me a liverwurst sandwich on rye. chips and a cold beer. Oh my. There was just always something exceptionally kind about Ruby and I miss her. She took me aside one day to gauge my intentions regarding Guinever. I suppose I passed her test. She ended our talk as follows, "If you choose to stay with her, understand it's going to be a rocky road." I laughed about it later...but she was right. I think it may be true that real committment is always a rocky road. I

The Mysterious Case of the January 6 Pipebomber

Way back in July of 2024, near two and a half years AFTER the January 5, 2021 planting of pipe bombs in Washington D.C., I noted the FBI had offered a half MILLION dollars for REWARD for cracking the case. So...I took a shot at it. GOLIATH Article 1

In the article I pointed out several peculiarities some already known and some that I discovered independently. For example: - The pipebombs were "armed" with 60 minute kitchen timers. - PB (the pipebomber) had donned an effective non-descript disguise - There had been no apparent attempt to "hide" or disguise the bombs as they were all place in plain sight by the DNC and RNC hqs. However, I made a couple of discoveries that were NOT so widely know. They involved a chap name Lonne Coffman. -Quite near the RNC pipebomb, he had parked his truck which held 11 "Molotov Cocktails" along with a cache of small arms. -Lonnie, along with many others had parked their vehicles in angled parking spots along the street in a row...all facing the wrong way. It appeared to be a concerted effort. -Lonnie had been brought to the scene by a woman in a blue sedan where he was pretty swiftly arrested. -Lonnie KNEW of the Pipebombs...and asked on duty cops if they had found "the bombs" I had suggested that the FBI should run the plates on all the other cars and identify and question the owners as well as 'the woman in the blue sedan'. (Lonnie had walked to the demonstration...not ridden) and who these folks were. Lonnie had documented ties to self-styled "Citizen Militias" and it looked like some kind of milita operation to me. Alas! The FBI (so far as I know) never took my advice and even with all these good leads, did not advance as a story/case for another year and a half. Then on November 8, the internet journal "The Blaze" published a since retracted story naming a woman as the pipebomber based on "gait" analysis. The woman was quite a story because she had worked FOR THE CAPITOL police at the time of the J6 uprising.

NOW we were told, she had transferred and was working for the Central Intelligence Agency! Ok everybody strap on your CONSPIRACY THEORY hats!!! The story went VIRAL and began churning up speculations and theorizing all over the internet. I think I even saw video of this officer and it was compared to the videos the FBI had generously provided on its $500 thousand dollar reward website. Suffice it to say...this was a VERY bad look for the CIA, the Capitol Police, the Woman and of course the FBI!! Some pissant website had solved the crime when the FBI had not been able to after 4 years and 10 months. But, next something happened that took everyone in the public by surprise and blew the CIA employee story OFF the front page. On December 8, less than a month after the CIA story broke, the FBI announced it HAD CAPTURED the J6 Bomber!!! It was poor old Brian Cole, Jr. an autistic 31 year old black fellow who lived in the region. Yep...the good old FBI finally solved the case (without Goliath's help) after only 4 years and 11 months!!! YAY!

WHO IS BRIAN COLE?????????

So it turns out the FBI under Kash Patel says that Brian Cole a 31 year old black autistic is PB. But some folks "aint buyin' it". For example, Tucker Carlson has openly stated he believes Cole is being framed and that FBI agents took advantage of his autism to elicit a confession. See Carlson even asked the parents to watch video of PB from the famed surveillance tapes distributed by the FBI and asked them if they recognized it as their son's "gait". They said no.

So, what's going on here? I looked carefully at a video tape that was released by Scripps Howard of a traffic stop of Brian Cole. I noticed that in the video he is given a sheet of paper to write on (the ticket? dunno) and what it shows is Cole holding the pen to write with in his RIGHT hand...suggesting he is right handed. I went back and looked at the videos of the actual PB and look particularly for anything suggesting whether PB was right or left handed. I noticed that PB adjusts eyeglasses in several scenes and used their left hand. As an eyeglass wearer myself, I can say without hesitation I usually use my right (dominant) hand for such manipulations. Suggesting to me that PB is LEFT handed. I even went to AI to see if AI agreed with my 'analysis' (whoo hoo look at fancy me using AI and stuff!) My AI said "In the FBI videos (particularly the segments near the DNC bench and along the route), the suspect is seen adjusting, putting on, or handling their glasses/eyeglasses on multiple occasions. Some frame-by-frame or close analyses note the left hand appearing more involved in those adjustments (or in related motions like cleaning/wiping the lenses or holding them). Combined with other bag-handling or object interactions that some viewers interpret as left-dominant, this has led a number of people to conclude the person is likely left-handed." Of course, it must be acknowledged that this is HARDLY definitive. And surely not enough to DISPROVE that Cole is PB. After all, a culprit clever enough to have selected that perfect disguise and evaded detection by the FBI for 4 years might be smart enough to use the 'wrong' hand for the exact reason that it would show up on surveillance tape.

But there is something else? IS PB A WOMAN??? When I originally watched and now when I watch, the videos of PB traipsing around the DNC and RNC neighborhood, there are some passages of the video that just 'look' like this is an adult female in disguise. In one particular passage, PB struts along and it looks like they are on 'tippy toe'. More convincing to me is a prolonged shot of PB sitting down fooling with their bag. Then, PB uses the left hand to reach over to apparently pull something up her left upper arm under her clothing. It's the exact gesture one sees women use to put a fallen bra strap back up over the shoulder. (at the beginning of video) Another angle shows PB adjusting the straps on both arms (VIDEO) GOLIATH HAS QUESTIONS?? The first question we have is how is it that just a couple weeks after the BLAZE comes out naming a suspect as a now CIA agent, the FBI announces after about 4 years investigation...they finally "got their man" who is DEFINITELY NOT a CIA agent? How convieeeenent. I read the speaking indictment of Brian Cole and it does a very good job of laying out it's evidence against Cole. Topic one: His car was forensicly caught in the neighborhood on a traffic camera. Topic two: His phone was 'pinged' off phone towers in the area. Topic three: The FBI checked his money records and tied him to a lengthy catalogue of purchases of items that can be used as components of a pipe bomb. But something is missing.

Goliath has read, literally, thousands of police reports and charging affidavits. Law enforcement in such documents invariably begins with the story of HOW and WHY the officer's attention first came to land on the defendant. But Brian Cole's charges completely OMIT how and why he, Brian Cole, happened to come to the attention of the FBI to begin with. That is certainly relevant to me. What is NOT in the charges is as important as what is IN the charges. How did the FBI get interested in Cole??? We don't know. The woman the Blaze accused was Shauna Kerkhoff. She has sued the Blaze and the reporters who wrote the story for defamation. Politico reports as follows: "“Blaze News initially reported, as confirmed by official intelligence sources, that based on a forensic gait analysis Ms. Kerkhoff was a 94% match to the suspected pipe bomber,” lawyer Michael Grygiel said in a statement. “That report was retracted when the FBI arrested and DOJ charged another individual, who had reportedly confessed to the crime.” “According to recent court filings by that individual’s legal counsel, Ms. Kerkhoff was a person of interest under surveillance by the FBI and failed a polygraph test administered two days before Blaze Media’s article was published,” Grygiel added." She said she was home with her boyfriend and had a perfect alibi. Alan Feurer for the NY Times reported on defensive pleadings filed by Brian Cole's lawyers, "In their papers, the lawyers revealed new details about the F.B.I.’s short-lived investigation of Ms. Kerkhoff, which began around the time that Mr. Baker’s article was published. The papers said investigators interviewed not only Ms. Kerkhoff, but also her boyfriend and her dog walker. They claimed that the F.B.I. sent surveillance footage of Ms. Kerkhoff walking to a podiatrist — “likely for a gait analysis” — and reviewed the video footage of her with her dog purportedly taken the night before the Capitol attack. Moreover, the lawyers said that Ms. Kerkhoff failed a polygraph examination

in which she was asked if she had placed the pipe bombs. The polygraph examiner, the papers said, took note of Ms. Kerkhoff’s “very controlled reaction to the news of her failing the polygraph and seemingly rehearsed responses to examiner’s questions.” The F.B.I. formally closed its inquiry into Ms. Kerkhoff on Jan. 6, the papers said, about a month after Mr. Cole had been charged. Her lawyer, Steve Bunnell, declined to comment."

Remember how one of the first "facts" the FBI raises against Cole, 'that his car license plate was spotted on a traffic camera on Jan 5"? This kinda bugged me because I recalled reading that, in fact, the FBI was after a suspect who had left the scene by mass transit. Then I found this as reported by NBC news...the FBI confirming their suspect was using mass transit. "In a letter to a Republican congressman who leads a new committee investigating Jan. 6, the FBI explained that it had been tracking a separate person of interest who took photos near the RNC on Jan. 5 and then took the Metro back to his friend's home, where he was staying to attend a Jan. 6 rally. The FBI said it had focused on the home because the person taking the photos used the homeowner's SmartTrip card on the Metro. The congressman, Rep. Barry Loudermilk of Georgia, posted a section of the letter on X, which was amplified by the FBI Rapid Response account. The owner of the home happened to be a neighbor of a former Capitol Police officer named in a story as a potential suspect in the pipe bomb incident on the conservative news site, The Blaze. The Blaze cited a "gait analysis" — a study of how a person walks — saying that it found a 94% match between the officer and the suspect. The former officer now works in campus security for the CIA, a source with knowledge of the person’s employment told NBC News." Did you catch that? The friendly "neighbor" who loaned the 'suspect' a metro card was the neighbor of Ms. KERKHOFF. WTH??? Let's see if we can make this make sense: According to the FBI, the say that as of early November, their suspect uses a metro card to leave the crime scene. Now they say, Brian Cole, their defendant, DROVE around the crime scene. Ok. Ok. Maybe he drove to the crime scene, with the inert bombs. He parked his car ( did he back into the parking slot? LOL) then...after planting the bombs, he used a metro card Ms. Kerkoff's neighbor had loaned out to return home to Maryland. (I guess he came back for his car after all the hullaballoo). Is that right??? Here is the fascinating but confusing story. Let's take a look at the PC affidavit: AFFIDAVIT

CONCLUSION:

I will summarize by stating that we went from the FBI touting how they were after someone who left the scene using mass transit, to a crazy right wing journal claiming PB was a female capitol policewoman now with the CIA who failed her polygraph and was a 94% 'gait' match to, within a month, charging unknown and autistic black guy whom all his neighbors love and call gentle as a mouse. Parents deny the PB video matches his gate or that he is guilty. Is he? Dunno. Would Patel and Jeanine Pirro LIE about this case to cover for the CIA or someone else?? Dunno. But, suffice to say that I have lost what faith I may have had in Patel and NEVER had faith in Jeanine. In closing I note that Lonnie Coffman, the fellow who KNEW about the J6PB bombs before he should have and who definitely brought 11 Molotov Cocktail bombs and a cache of small arms to DC for Jan 6 has received his FULL PARDON from the White House. How is it that 2 inert unused pipe bombs is WORSE than 11 fire bombs??? Dunno. But apparently Jeanine and company intend to prosecute Brian Cole Jr. to THE FULL EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS.

Trips I remember as a child

When I was a boy, the most notable trips were the frequent trips my family took from Sellersburg to Hyden and Neon Kentucky. In the sixties, my dad had 'family cars', either a larger sedan or later, a station wagon with a seat in the very back. (my brother and I rode there.) In the sedans, all four children rode in the bench back seat. The trip to Hyden was memorable. It was before the interstate was built when I was a boy. We traveled down State Highway 60 ...through Frankfort where my mother would always point out the grave/memorial of Daniel Boone. It also always involved a stop at Rebecca Ruth's candy shop where she would buy chocolates to bring to her family. As we got further down into the mountains we would turn out at London Ky. We would take State road 80 to Manchester and then 421 to Hyden. Those mountain roads were windy and scenic. Around 1970 the interstates had been put in and the trip became just a 4 hour drive. Not as memorable. Once, my dad took our dog, Bowser, with us. Bowser rode in the trunk. He didn't mind a bit but when I tell the story people seem shocke VIRGINA My family traveled to Virginia once, to see my Mother's Aunt Ida. Ida was famous for all the men she had married. I guess she outlived a few. As a result she was "well to do". She lived in a huge house with three stories. I remember the staircase was a play area for us. Outside she had a farm with a mule on it. I met her current husband. A rather silent, gray, older fellow. We also traveled to Abingdon Virginia. It was historically significant (don't recall why) and my dad and mom took me to see a real play on a real stage. It was Tennessee Williams' "Summer and Smoke". I was entranced and that was my start of loving theater. It was at the "Barter Theater". So named because they would barter tickets for farm products. That was back in the depression when actors had it tough. *************** At some point my family was doing well enough to take vacations. Trips for sheer pleasure. Once we went to Florida but mostly what I recall about that was being in St. Augustine and visiting the old fort there. Which, as a kid, was very impressive. Usually our vacations were to Myrtle Beach in S.C. We would stay in a beachside family motel. Everyone in ONE room with two double beds and a rollaway. The motels were fun because they had a swimming pool and an elevator! The elevator was an adventure. I recall that we once stayed at a motel that was across the street from and old style boarding house. It was actually a hippy hotel. There were lots of twentys there with vw's and vw buses. Long haired hippy guys and gals. Fun to watch and somewhat exotic for a Sellersburg boy. The first time we traveled to Myrtle, we arrived in the night. Before we went to our motel, my parents drove down to the beach. My mother had us take our shoes and socks off...and she led us down to the breaking waves...we waded in the surf..'to feel the Ocean' for the first time in our young lives. ****************************** I remember when our family went to the North East coast. We went via Washington D.C. The funny thing was we had made reservations at a modest 'family style' motel ...like Holiday Inn. However, when we arrived there'd been a mix up and there were no rooms available. To accomodate us, the motel put us in a fancy pants five star HOTEL with a doorman and a big ritzy lobby. The funny thing was that because we didn't or couldn't afford luggage...a lot of our clothes were simply backed in brown paper grocery bags. It was funny to see us carrying our stuffed grocery bags through the fancy lobby to get to the elevator to reach our room. This was during the LBJ presidency. A famous family story is how I got the phone book that was in the room and was quietly sitting at a table looking through it. My mother asked "what are you doing David?" and I replied, sincerely, "I'm looking for President Johnson's phone number". For some reason we had the treat of piling into a taxi cab and riding to one of historic sites. The driver was an older african American fellow. I got place in the 'shotgun' seat' while everyone else was in the back seat. During the ride I conversed with the driver. Later, my mother told me how proud she was that I was able to make nice conversation with this guy who was, probably, the first African American I had ever met in my life. ********************************************************************************* MAINE: It may have been that trip when we wound up driving up to Maine. Mother's best friend from college was Joyce Haggard. Joyce was married to Hugh "Bud" Haggard and he taught at a local college in or near Kennebunk Port Maine. We had a great time going down to the rocky beach and swimming in the ocean. I was the only one of us "southerners" who could bear the frigid waters very long. Kennebunk Port looked like a magical place to my young eyes. We had a babysitter. She had red hair and she marvelled at our barely intelligible accents (to her ears) and we marvelled at her barely intelligible Maine accent. Joyce and Bud had two children, Merle and Stephanie. Merle was a couple years younger than me and Stephanie was a year younger than Paige and just older than Stacy. Throughout my childhood, the Haggard family were recurring guests in the "Mosley" world. Later we visited them in Holland Michigan. They would come and visit us at our old house that Dad built on Poplar Drive in Sellersburg. Our two families got together at least once a year. Joyce was interested in my interest in reading Sci-Fi. At that time I was reading some Heinlein and also the "John Carter of Mars" series by Burroughs. I remember Joyce suggesting I try "Dune". Later, I followed her advice and read Dune. But, I didn't much like it. Joyce and my mother liked talking about 'strange' topics. They discussed reincarnation which was a popular culture topic and the phenomena of "split personalities" since the book "Sybil" had been published. Joyce also had tried 'self hypnosis' and recommended to my Mother, but I don't think Sue ever tried that. LOL. A sad note about our long time family friends: While I was gone in Europe, perhaps early 1980 in January or so, a drunk driver collided head on with the Haggard's car as they were traveling through Ohio. The whole family was killed. Merle was 18 and Stephanie was only 12. It still hurts to think about them. I played football with Merle and his friends in Michigan on a visit there. When he visited us, we tramped the woods which was new for him. **************************************************** GREAT WEST When I was a teenager, The man and the woman decided it was time to take a big trip to the west. I had a license so I could help with the driving. We were in a Chrysler Station wagon. The luggage rack on top was put to use. Dad strapped everything down. By now we had actual luggage! The first leg of the trip was from Sellersburg to Chicago. We arrive during daylight and cruised down the Miracle Mile. The question was, "Where to stay". We were near the Hilton and we begged Dad to stay there! He agreed ! YAY! The thing I remember was noticing that on the street parallel with Michigan (Wabash) there were ...ahem..."gentlemens clubs". Because I was older (16 or 17) I got to go off and wander around Chicago. I screwed up my courage and went in one of these strip joints. This place specialized in "Belly Dancing". I sat down at the bar to watch what there was of the 'show'. It was pretty slow because this was probably around 5 pm. I got a coke. While I sat there...one of the belly dancers came and sat next to me. She asked me to buy her a drink. Well...the embarassing part was I had no idea of this 'gimmick'. Nor did I have any money really. So I politely declined. ** We headed west from Chicago. We took Interstate 90. When I look at it on the map, it comes back to me. We drove through the Wisconsin Dells. I remember that "WALL DRUGS" was heavily advertised all along 90. It was weird...how can a drug store be a tourist attraction? But, when we finally got to the exit in South Dakota for it...sure enough, we stopped and visited. What I remember it was jampacked with tourist trap stuff. Kind of like a Bucees on steroids. One memorable part of this drive west was how very very dull the landscape was. Hours and hours of cornfields and nothing to break the monotony. But then...somewhere in South Dakota, you pass a line and up before you looms the BADLANDS. It is still in my mind, this dramatic, otherwordly landscape appears. On this trip there were two things that happened, we went to Mt. Rushmore. I was driving the Chrysler. Dad was in the back seat and had been asleep. As we rolled up to the guardpost at the entrance of the park ...he was not awake yet and somewhere in a netherland, he rolled down the his window. (they were electric) and we all waited for what he would say to the Park Ranger.... "Are the heads lit"?? The effect was like he was our drunken old guy (he never drank). We all laughed...it was daytime. The Ranger was flummoxed. The second notable event was when we toured the Badlands National Park. We stood at the top of cliffs carved out for eons, and sister Stacy was eating an apple. When we got to Mount Rushmore, Steve and I strolled off and saw that they offered helicopter rides for $10 a piece. We had the money. We took the ride. We figured it was better to ask forgiveness than for permission. ************************ I also remember that we went on to Yellowstone Park. My dad got a hotel in North Yellowstone. It was quite a contrast from the Hilton we stayed in in Chicago. We were shown the room. It was a large room with two beds. As they were showing us the room, I walked a few paces and squashed a roach that was scrambling across the floor. Still, we took the room. These are the trips I remember as a child/teenager. My next travels were on my own first to New York and then to Europe with my friend Keven Staton.

John Wesley Hardin Gunfighter and Lawyer Part 2 Written by Goliath Edited by K. Staton

In part 1 of this series, I explained how I had come to be interested in John Wesley Hardin (JW) and how I had used his unique status as both a lawyer and a gunfighter – now dead and presumably in Hell – as a device by which to discuss legal cases and issues in the public eye. I took a deeper dive recently, reading in his autobiography stories of some of the desperados and lawmen encountered in his short pre-prison life. (He was sent to prison at about age 25). He is said to be one of the most prolific killers of the Old West, and I had always read there was controversy over how many men he had actually killed in his career of lethality. Best I can tell, by the time he was finally captured and imprisoned, he claims to have killed or assisted in killing some 40 men. To understand how this can happen, it helps to take a good long look at the places where and period wherein Harden operated. Southcentral Texas, leaning toward the east, was really a wild and leaderless country. There were sheriffs and marshals with deputies, but in truth they weren't one lick better than the men they sought to oppress. In line with JW's accounts, lawmen led lynch mobs as often as they tried to break them up. (But when a lawman led the mob, they used another word for it: a posse. A rose by any other name…can draw blood that’s just as red!) You can go on Google Earth and take a look at the landscape in the region between Dallas and Houston that was his old stomping ground. Its endless grass plains were good for farming or ranching but generally not much else. It looks like a pretty soul-crushing place. The summers are oppressively hot. It's muggy. It's probably never comfortable, especially in those days. Thus, at least in part, I put down the violence as originating in boredom and discomfort… which may lead to a lot of drinking… which may lead to a lot of arguing over stupid stuff… which could lead to throwdowns, even… killings. It may have been just too easy just to pull out a six-shooter and start firing away. Born in 1853 in Texas, JW was just a boy when the Civil War started. We only wonder whether it was his people or his place that more provoked him to want to join the Rebel army by age 9; both factors may well have encouraged the notion. Then, imagine, after the war, the federal government came into Texas and turned life upside down: slaves were freed; the government was now run by “carpetbaggers;” the federal army occupied the territory. Rebs and their sympathizers were treated harshly, flipping the script of the pre-war period. Families and kinfolk aligned with the feds got power – appointments as sheriffs or deputies or federal marshalls, typically – which exacerbated long-standing ill feelings between clans, and the feuding life was ignited. One famous feud there was known as the Taylor-Sutton Feud. After the war the Taylors generally got the short end of the stick as the Suttons got federal rewards of power and authority. The Taylors were allied with Hardin's extended family, and in large part it was this feud that fueled the violence Hardin was involved in. What all this feuding was about is, frankly, too boring to try and figure out and get to the bottom of. Whatever its origins, it clearly evolved into simple revenge. A guy or two on one side would kill a guy or two on the other side. That led the friends of the slain party to seek and get revenge on the guys that did that killing, which led to their friends getting revenge on the revengers for their killing, and so on and on, ad infinitum. It can become quite tedious…provided that you are not directly involved of course. But one can imagine that in those days – if not our own? –it might just be more interesting to get involved with high adventure, despite the meaningless of the escapades, than to sit around watching cattle graze while picking off ticks. (JW makes quite a to-do about how his family sold – practically gave away – a farm place because of an infamous tick infestation.) (Texas tick infestation was a regional problem in the latter part of the 19th century, and, according to the Texas History site, it led to a sort of agricultural crisis shorthanded as Texas Fever. It was fatal to non-immunized cattle in other regions that somehow would pick up ticks from Texas.) Apparently, Hardin was not a natural born criminal. Unlike other gunmen of the Old West, he did not rob banks or trains. His occupation generally appears to have been legal and legit. As a teen, he taught school for a short time. He was a cowboy and/or a cattleman. He traded goods. I'd speculate that the closest he might have gotten in those days to crime (with a capital “C”) would have been “cattle rustlin'.” These were open range days, and when it came time to gather a herd to drive up to Kansas, I doubt JW was too meticulous about being sure the cattle he gathered all had his brand. No, the only crime JW developed an appetite for was… homicide. The killer in him first manifested at age 15. His victim was a former slave named Maje. The animosity arose from some roughhousing between Maje (JW says he is a grown man), JW and a friend. The two teens got the best of Mage that day, which outraged him to the point of vowing revenge. JW tells it as if he –saintly fellow – did all he could the next day to avoid violence. But Maje persisted, says JW, trying to hit him with a stick and swearing he’d kill him. Although JW was mounted and Maje was not, it was not the "Texas way" for JW to have ignored the threat and ridden on by and away. No, JW chose to pull a pistol and shoot him down. Due to the time, place and circumstances of this first killing, JW may have been talked into the life of a fugitive by loved ones. JW claims his father and other family members told him that because his first victim had been a slave, he must go on the run. The local federals would not give him a fair trial, he was told. Then they commit injustice upon him and would execute him. Later we read that JW ambushes a detachment of three federal soldiers sent to bring him in. When he finds their camp, he kills them in cold blood. Of course these killings were again justified because the soldiers had been “intent on doing him bodily harm.” And so it goes. *********************************************** JW gives us the accounts, in greater or lesser detail, of having killed 40 men. 40! All by the age of 25. For the statistics aficionados among you, that averages out to 1 killing every 3 months for ten years. (Of course, actually there were episodes of killing 2 or 3 men in a single encounter, but still...that's killing with regularity. A serial killer before the time of such labels.) Now, it is not my intention to recount all the lethal encounters JW describes in his book. I mention the first killing because it is illustrative of the excuses he expounds in every other killing, too, to which he would come to confess. In JW's telling, he was (always) at a disadvantage – boy vs. man. He was (always) innocent of ill will – we were just goofing around. His victim was (always) a villain with a black temper who was (always) openly threatening and expressing his intent to kill JW. Obviously then, there should be no question that his use of deadly force was “justified,” always. We just need to think about it like he might have: Poor old JW experiences, at age 15, the trauma of killing a man, which sets him off on a ten-year killing spree, because...you know...life is so-o-o-o unfair! He’s totally misunderstood! He’s at heart a peace-loving man who just could not escape his past and the dreadful northern federales who so oppressed him, denied him the chance to own slaves! Bastards all! What I see in JW is characteristic of every sociopath I’ve ever encountered. Still, JW does manage to give a breakdown of some notable encounters that I must pass along. Some are deadly, some are not. He recounts a time in Abilene, Kansas when Wild Bill Hickok was the town marshall. JW had a precarious relationship with Wild Bill, but he was smart enough to avoid an outright deadly conflict. He preferred instead to drink and play cards with the notorious marshall. They behaved as friendly acquaintances and nowhere does JW claim that he has a better gunhand than Bill. He describes Hickok personally and physically in a positive light. Bill, in turn, takes to calling JW Li'l Arkansaw. It's all good fun until JW shoots a man in Bill’s hotel. Legend has it that JW couldn't abide the man's snoring. According to JW, it was just another case of self-defense as the man was trying to rob him using a knife while JW was asleep. (Whatever dude!) After that JW beat it out of town fearing, he says, that Wild Bill would come gunning for him. In another short but notable encounter, JW is the would-be victim in a game of The Badger. It goes like this. JW meets a prostitute, whom he refers to in the book as a “sweetheart.” He is walking her home and on the way they are intercepted by a man claiming to be her boyfriend but who is actually her pimp. Pimp demands JW hand over his money. JW gets his money out and drops it on the ground in front of the villain. When the man bends over to retrieve the cash, JW lets him have it right between the eyes. Another man who just deserved it, according to JW. *************************************************** As his story moves towards its end, we see JW married and living on the lam. He leaves Texas and goes East. Ultimately settling for a while in Florida where he establishes a commercial store buying and selling goods and livestock. He adopts the name "Swain" but just can't seem to avoid trouble. He ultimately is captured on a train. It takes nearly thirty men to take him. What a tough guy! JW gives a brief account of his time in captivity. He catalogues various escape plots and the various punishments he receives at the hand of the law, which includes a flogging at one point. Even when relating his slow conversion into man better behaved, studying the law and religion in his cell, there is never a hint of reflection on the conduct that led him into the life of a killer nor any remorse at his having become one. Nor is there any resolution to turn over a new leaf and live a better life, even though he now has a wife and family to think about. No, for JW the story is always going to be how he was a victim of circumstances, and his implacable, irreversible decision to live and die with (his kind of) honor – or to kill – if that's what he thought the situation called for. ***************************************************** Hardin was released from prison in February of 1894. He was by then almost 41 years old. His wife, who had been faithfully waiting while he served his time, had died shortly before he was released. He received a pardon from the Governor of Texas for his crimes, and good wishes came his way as he began to practice law. It appears he plunked around at first in a small town where his family was, but after a few months moved on to El Paso. One is left to assume that his children, a son and a daughter, were passed off to be raised by other family members. JW does not tell us about them; maybe they just weren’t that important to him. Thus ends the book. JW doesn't tell us much about his life after prison, but we know it didn't last long. He was drawn to El Paso to represent a cousin, "Killin' Jim" Miller. AKA "Deacon Jim." Miller was a hired assassin, about as nasty a killer as you might ever find. Killin' Jim must have been pleased with JW's lawyering for he rewarded JW with the gift of a pearl handled revolver; it still exists in a collection, part of the ephemera of the JW Hardin legend. THE END OF John Wesley Hardin Hardin's legal career was rather short. By August of 1895 he has a shingle hanging at the corner of El Paso and San Antonio Streets in El Paso. His second-story office is right across El Paso street from The Gem saloon. On a Monday night. Hardin has strolled across the street to while away some hours drinking and tossing dice on the bar. He'd been in a dispute with El Paso deputy, John Selman Jr. over the arrest of a woman JW fancied. John Selman Sr., also a lawman in the town, kept it simple. He just walked into The Gem, and without saying a word shot JW in the back of the head. Put a few more slugs in him while he was down just to “make sure.” Selman Sr. was later acquitted by an El Paso Jury, grateful perhaps, for having rid them of a man born to killing and trouble. It's worth noting that, so far as I know, old JW did not actually kill anybody after he was released from prison and occupied as a lawyering man. Maybe it’s lawyering that brings out the best in people!

I have always been a fan of the Wild West. It likely comes from my boyhood coinciding with the era in television and cinema when Westerns reigned supreme. I got steeped in the lore and legends. TV shows like Bonanza, The Rifleman, Rawhide, and Gunsmoke made a big impression, and as a consequence, surely, their impact on my young imagination kicked off what became an enduring interest in the gunfighters of the Old West. What I read furthered my interest too; I recall that Time-Life Magazine around that time published a great series on the Old West. And I came into possession of a book entitled The Gunfighters, which I think was the first Old West history book I collected.

I became a big fan of Billy the Kid, was entertained by Wild Bill Hickock, and I read about many of the more notorious gunmen of the period. Once you dig in and pursue this history, it doesn't take long to sort out just how fictional the Hollywood versions of these stories tend to be. But Clint Eastwood did a good job of flipping the myth in his film Unforgiven, in which he portrays a retired gunfighter who confirms that all the big stories really emerged from men having been "drunk all the time" and "lucky in killing".

Folks still debate whether Billy the Kid was honorable or just a psychopathic killer. I think Billy's elevated place in the gunslinger mythos comes from how many times he escaped after having been captured. I’d imagine he became famous in his own time because the lawmen just couldn’t keep hold of him once apprehended. Americans of every era, it feels to me, tend to have something of an attraction for the romanticized bad guy who escapes the clutches of John Law. Even in our time, when there is a prison break and some desperado goes on the run, it becomes a news story that people want to follow. Could it be that in some hidden (or not so hidden?) part of ourselves, we prefer the outlaws? Take that John Law!

Other figures truly do come across as bizarre psychopaths…serial killers who found themselves in a place and time when they could give unbridled expression to their sadistic and brutal natures. The accident-prone Clay Allison comes immediately to mind. Allison gravitated to any and all conflicts that might yield violence regardless of the depth of his own personal stake in the matter. After wielding a gun so viciously for so long against so many, it's darkly amusing that he met his end like a fool: got drunk, fell off a wagon and broke his damn neck.

I was in a rural courthouse one day about 20 years ago, and the judge was calling out the docket. To my surprise he called for John W. Hardin. I couldn't resist a little bit of snooping and soon learned that, yes indeed, this fellow was – or claimed to be, at least – the great-great-grandson of the original Texas legend. (I admit it made me wonder about parents who decide to name their newborn after a cold-blooded killer – ancestor or not. No such thing as bad press, I suppose. In our own time, are there people surnamed Manson who’ve named their kid Charlie?) And this man actually bore some resemblance to the original as best I could tell – average height, similar facial features, pale and even skin, and a mop of dark straight hair. But, considering the name, his alleged crime was quite mild as I recall. Some kind of traffic violation. He told me his parents had moved up to Indiana from Texas before he was born, so it tracked. And he was nice enough about my curiosity. However, the fact of his incarceration unfortunately left us little time for a deeper dive into his family history.

By that time, I had somewhat singled out the original John Wesley Hardin as a figure of interest because, of all the gunfighters I knew of, he was the only one that later became, like me, an attorney. (It was due to this fact that some years later when Goliath started this blog, I used the device of using John Wesley's ghost from hell to comment on all things concerning the legal world, i.e., courts, courtrooms, cases, judges etc. It was fun for me, and my readers seemed to enjoy it. Here's an example: JW on the Yalanda Parish case.) The first man Hardin killed was a black former slave named Maje, which follows, as Hardin was a racist of the highest order, having been brought up in a family that was squarely on the side of the rebellious, racist South. As the story goes, by age 9 John Wesley wanted to run away and fight for the Rebs.

I have enjoyed very few opportunities to read the actual writings of these famed gunfighters. In one, I recall being surprised by the rather exquisite penmanship and elevated writing style of a letter Billy the Kid wrote to the governor of New Mexico from a Santa Fe jail asking for the governor to live up to what Billy believed was their "deal". And here now – written by JW himself – is a whole book penned by one of the most notorious legends of the Wild Wild West. It has been a fascinating read. This article is, among other things, an attempt to relay my impressions of the man and his world.

Hills like Kiliminjaro. (Part 1)

The house was a big, barn shaped house set on the side of a hill. Behind it was an old mine. It looked spooky...like a creepy cave out of an old time movie. Now blocked, up, we were forbidden as children to explore it. It was just off the narrow footpath you took to the outhouse set back about 100 feet from the house. Old catalogs and maybe newspapers were torn out and used for toilet paper. Sometimes there were spider webs down in the corners of the outhouse.

The big house had a porch on front that had a wooden porch swing on one end. There were also two caneback wooden chairs and a metal 'glider'. The glider was where my grandmother would sit and knit or sometimes break and de-string green beans. Inside the front door was a hall that ran straight to back of the house. Three bedrooms were off the hall on the right. The two in the front had coal burning fireplaces. They were furnished with big feather beds, a chest of drawers and in the corner a "slopjar" that you could use to urinate (or other) in the middle of the night if you had to. (But you had to carry it out the next morning...that was the rule). If you were so lucky as to sleep in one of the two 'front' bedrooms, you would lay in exquisite comfort, under blankets hand made by your grandmother. In winter, the coal fire cast hypnotic shadows on the ceiling as the fire banked. A kid could quite easily get lost in the shadow show until overtaken by sleep.

My cousin, Jeff and his mother Aunt Jean had bedrooms upstairs as did my grandmother and grandfather. We called him "Poppy Roy". She was always "Grandma Virgie". Not granny. Not grammy. It was the full "Grandma Virgie". Jeff was an only child and had the run of the house and...having all the attention from his mother, grandmother and grandfather...was a little spoiled. Always into mischiefs of one kind or another. He was a couple years older than me so he also took the lead whenever my family came to visit.

Wooden steps led down from the front of the house to a little bottom where you parked your car. There was a drive that came down off the hill on the other side of the little creek that ran there. To the right, the bottom opened out to a larger field that was bordered by a larger stream. And, on the other side of the little river a hillside rose up at a steep angle. About fifty feet up was little camp of shacks everyone called "Dogtown". The street of Dogtown was visible from our front porch and it was often the source of evening entertainment to watch what 'went on'. (Drunks, fights, domestic outrages etc.,)

Across the river was a 'swinging bridge'. This is a walking bridge strung on bracings and two cables. The walkway is suspended from the cables and is narrow and made of two by fours. It's quite an adventure for a 10 year old boy. I felt I could not let my fear stop me from crossing it because my mother told that she used to ride her bike across it when she was a little girl. Here's a picture of my daughter on one very similar to the one into Dogtown.

I liked to sit on that porch and look past Dogtown to the main part of town. Hyden is the county seat and an easy walk from the house.

One of our games was, we would walk the long way into town picking up empty pop bottles off the side of the road. In those days littering was much more common than now. I don't think I've seen anybody toss trash out their car window in years. But then it was common to just toss your trash right out the window as you were riding down the road. We could usually get enough to cash in and buy ice cream or some other treat at the soda fountain counter in the drugstore in town.

As we got older, our town visits were governed by 1 and only 1 rule...we were forbidden to visit the pool hall. "Goofy's Pool hall" was located down an incline and under the "5 and Dime" store. Of course, since it was 'off limits' we went there immediately. I don't think my mother and Aunt Jean were right though. I do NOT feel like we were corrupted too much by hanging around Goofys. We learned how to shoot "8 ball" and "straight" pool. Also learned this was one place where you could buy and sell knives or maybe a gun, if you wanted to.

We ran around and played with Jeff's crew. Orville, Greg, Lige, Dana and some others. All hillbilly boys but plenty smart and lots of imagination for playing. A junked out old army truck was abandoned on a beat down dirt lot near the Elementary school. We climbed all over that thing playing "soldier". If only a couple us were around, a great deal of fun could be had by damming up the creek branch (we called it 'the branch') and seeing how big a pool of water we could create. Or maybe hunting crawdads was called for. Crawdads hid under hand sized rocks at the bottom of the stream. You reach in with one hand and gently lift the rock...with the other hand you grab the crawdad behind it's head stearing clear of it's pincers. When you lift up the rock, a little cloud of muddy water would arise and the crawdad was dead in the middle of that cloud.

We didn't do anything with them. They were just fun to catch. Sometimes you would get a female with a load of eggs packed in under her tail.

Sometimes, we would have a really big excursion. The mountain where the elementary school and the hospital was, had two names. If you were referring to the area around the hospital and the buildings and chapel and hospital itself...that was "Hospital Hill". But further on...up above, you could walk to the top. Past where any buildings were, you came into a hillside that was pine trees. This was an easy walk because the canopy was so dark no ground cover grew. It was nice just walking on all pine needles. After you got past the pine forest, the hill took a steep ascent and the ground cover as well as the trees were dense. There was a footpath, but you had to look smart because plants grew out and loomed over the path...including poison ivy which you diligently avoided. Once you got up to where the path didn't go 'up' anymore, that's when you arrived at the "Devil's Track" which was our name for the mountain...or at least the mountain top. Here was a plateaued area maybe two acres with tons of rocky outcroppings. Here you were pretty high up and you could look out over the highway and to the River that ran behind town...the "Middle Fork" of the Kentucky River. There in a sort of cleared space was a large flat rock in the ground. It had a discoloration of a red hue and it was in the form of a human shoe print. This was the Devil's track itself. Other peculiarly shaped outcroppings we gave names to..."The Devil's throne" ...even "The Devil's commode" (a toilet seat shaped semi circle of flat rock.).

Sundays

Waking up in a feather bed. Called to get dressed by my mother. We were expected to dress well to attend church. If I was lucky, my mother would let me 'off the hook' from attending Sunday School because actually, it was kind of boring. However, Poppy Roy was, among other things, the Sunday School Superintendent of the First Baptist Church of Hyden Kentucky. So, from time to time we were obliged to appear to keep a good image up. This means I have to wear a necktie...maybe even a little sport coat.

Church service is a family affair. Poppy Roy is also the choir leader so he has an active part throughout the service. Because of his duties, he always arrives early to church. He drives his pickup truck with running boards and parks right in front of the church and just directly off the state highway.

My great aunt Ethel, (Poppy Roy's sister) is the church pianist. When service starts, my mother always sits up front ...about three rows back, with Aunt Jean and Jean's friends. If my dad is there, he sits with them. However, me and my cousin invariably seat ourselves in the very last row of pews as far from adult supervision and observation as physically possible. Greg Morgan who is older than Jeff also sits with us. I still remember Poppy Roy leading the congregation in what is, I suppose, my favorite hymn, "The old rugged Cross".

When service was over, me, Jeff and my brother would rush outside to wait for Poppy Roy to come out and drive us home. We would jump up on the running boards, Jeff on one side, me and my brother on the other. Poppy Roy would put it in reverse and back straight out into the highway without even a glance to check if any car was coming. Then, we rode back through town hanging on to the side of the truck bed. It was great fun and a reward for our good (ie silent) behavior during the service.

You may have noticed I did not mention Grandma Virgie's role in church service. That's because she had none! I was jealous in my juvenile way. Instead of going to church on Sunday, her job was to spend the morning fixing up Sunday dinner. (what we would call lunch). What a meal it was!

Now, it was a fixture of our lives that Sunday dinner was when Virgie hosted guests. There was a long dining room table which must have seated ten people...more if need be. Various extended family relations were always a feature. Often, the preacher would also join us. My clearest memory is of heavily bosomed great aunts or cousins ...they must have been middle aged and were dressed in finest clothes for church. There had on jewelry, and were heavily doused in floral scented perfumes...they would exclaim over what a 'handsome little boy" and they would grab me in their arms and pull me into that bosomy expanse and hug me and kiss me. In the aftermath of this gauntlet, I would have to check to make sure I got rid of any lipstick impressions on my cheeks.

Usually, us kids would be seated at a card table set up in the kitchen. But, in the dining room, there was a spread that simply isn't found nowadays. For starters, there would be two meat entrees. Two of either pot roast, Fried chicken or ham. In porcelain bowls, other dishes would be on the table to be passed, "family style". Sweet corn, mashed potatoes, green beans, beets, peas...and more. There would be two plates of rolls. There was a pitcher of sweet tea on a sideboard. When I say sweet...I mean as sweet as possible. The tea had so much sugar in it that there was quarter inch of undissolved sugar at the bottom of the pitcher. It was a feast indeed.

All of this was prepared by Grandma Virgie, every Sunday morning ...and I was jealous because she didn't have to attend the service!

CRAWFORD COUNTY TRUE CRIME TOUR 2025 : "LITTLE LOST CHILDREN".

My dear friend and brother in law, David Keith has come for a visit. 40 years ago (or almost) DK was the designated "Senior Young Adult" when we were all young and beautiful. He is an actor (The Big Lebowski, Raising Arizona, The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Nomadland etc.,) He's a Connecticut Yankee. We lost his dear wife, and my wife's sister, Melissa Smith a few years ago. He's tall, gangly. reserved and thin. A better looking Ichabod Crane.

I had tossed out the idea of showing him the Henryville Murder tour...and he was intrigued. Past visits have led to the quaint streets and river front of Madison Indiana which he loved. Added cinematic interest came from the story of how "Some Came Running" was filmed here in Madison.

We also toured Hanover College and took in the long long river view available there. Before that, we took a drive westerly and telling the tale of one of my wife's favorites of my stories about one of my cases from the 90's, wound up at the Overlook Inn in Leavenworth.

HIRED BY A CHILD*********************

The 'story' begins with me sitting in my office in Jeffersonville @ 1993 when I receive an unusual call.

"Hello Mr. Mosley, my name is Darryl Ruby* and I am calling for my brother"

Me: "What's the story"

DR: "My brother is in the Crawford County Jail. They got him charged with Arson. Say he burned down the Leavenworth General Store. He's just 17."

Me: "17? Well how old are you???"

DR: "Me? I am twelve...but we heard you were good and my brother don't need to be in jail".

As one might imagine, twelve year olds from the remote wilds of Indiana don't usually have a pot full of money to hire lawyers with...but I was intrigued and I worked something out with the family. My client was, indeed, 17 years old. I called him "Stringbean" because he was about 6' 3" tall and probably weighed in at about 110 lbs. Like my bro-in law, he was another Ichabod Crane.

Prosecuting was my dear friend Cheryl Hillenburg. I love Cheryl. She is tiny, ferocious as a terrier but with a heart and an eye for being fair. She was also sensitive to the fact that the community demanded something be done because, though no one was hurt, the Leavenworth General Store had been burned.

The General Store was well over a century old and was a beloved community fixture. It was still going strong in the 1990s when this incident occurred. The people of the town...even the county demanded justice! My client, though a juvenile, was quickly waived into adult court along with his two co-defendants who had been in on the caper. I fought the waiver arguing Stringbean had no...ZERO criminal record but...twas not to be. He would face real adult prison!

***************************** MOTIVE***********************************

In the world of criminal law, the young lawyer swiftly learns that "motive" is NOT an element of crime. the Prosecutor does not have to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, WHY someone committed a crime...only that a crime was committed. Motive belongs more in the world of criminal investigation ...that if you can figure out why a crime occurred , you may often learn WHO committed the crime.

But, as all good trial lawyers know, you don't have to have a motive...but it sure is easier to sell a story to a jury if you have a nice understandable motive. So, whether you are a prosecutor or a defense lawyer, it's a good idea to figure out just what was the MOTIVE?

In my case, my mild mannered client hardly seemed the type to be a fire bug. I have represented several arsonists in my near 40 year career. So I flatter myself to be able to judge the 'type'. For example, We had a 'home grown' fire bug in Jeffersonville, "Bobby"* that I was appointed by the judge to represent. My client then was a lone wolf with a gruff voice, a somewhat childish demeanor and lived with his mom and dad at age 40+. He was accused of burning down an empty house. I learned, while investigating the case, the local city fire chief was well aware of his proclivity. Poor Bobby would get all wound up like a top with tension and anxiety that only setting big fire seemed could relieve. Rather than try to stop it...the chief recommended he set fire to garbage dumpsters....that seemed to provide the relief urgently needed. This worked well for Bobby for a few years. But then, his urges got the best of him. But, it sort of took the starch out of the prosecutors case when they learned that, actually, the chief of the fire department was actually urging him to set fires in town.

One sunny day, when that case was over, I was having a cup of coffee at a sidewalk table. Bobby rolled up on a motor scooter. He was smoking a cigar. On the floorboard of the scooter were two gas cans.

Heyyh Misher Moossely! Thranks a millions for hellllping me wifth my case!" OMG.

So far as I know....no. buildings were burnt down that day.

Anyway, back to Stringbean. I wanted to understand if he had done it and if so, why did they do it? One of the other juveniles had already confessed so there wasn't to much mystery about the "DID you do it" part. I mean, the building had been burnt and the other boy admitted. So here's what the story was...

********"Why to burn down a general store"****************************

Well, it was another Saturday night out in what city folk call 'the boonies'. Leavenworth isn't much of a 'town'. You might call it just a hamlet. There's a church, the Overlook restaurant and the general store. Stringbean was riding around in one of his friends cars. It was dark. There was nothing to do. They decided to pull a caper. Somebody had the idea to break into the General Store and steal some candy. They also had nice pocket knives in there so they nabbed a couple pocketfuls of candy and a few pocket knives. Stringbean was assigned the job of 'lookout'. He stayed in the car and watched for 'the cops'. Entry was made by busting out a window of a door in the rear of the building. The caper was a success!! The boys hopped in the car and away they went with their loot! YAY!!!

But, as they drove around the dark country roads, gobbling their stolen candy...one of the boys got to thinking...."Wait...we didn't use gloves. Our fingerprints will be all over that place".

Now, here is where if, like me, you have been around criminal cases for a long good while you want to just slap the shit out of these kids. So, sure, this qualifies as a 'burglary' under the law....but...nobody...I mean NOBODY is going to get too excited and vengeful for a few teen boys stealing some candy and pocket knives. Next, nobody...and I mean NOBODY is going to do a CSI like forensic investigation of a broken door window and dna, laser testing of the inside of a ....PUBLIC place where everyone in the county's fingerprints are apt to be found. OMG. But, our young would be Dillingers were too young and ignorant to know that.

And so, it was decided to circle BACK to the scene of the crime....and BURN THE BUILDING DOWN to destroy the evidence of them breaking in to steal, literally candy bars and knives. Once again Stringbean was the lookout.

The criminal master minds had just turned their misdemeanor juvenile court cases into High Felony cases in Adult Court. BRILLIANT!!! (as my buddy Stan would have said).

In the end, I was able to finagle a resolution for old Stringbean that didn't ruin him forever. The good news is he has never been in trouble with the law again.

Thanksgiving day. November 27 2025. Journal of the Day

I woke up about 9:30. Oddly, Guin was not up yet as she usually always rises before I do. So, I get up and stumble into the kitchen. I get the coffee started. I am not a guy for 'forced' jollity and so part of me is just looking forward to passing through the pleasantries of the day. It's supposed to be focused around 4 pm and thereafter...so I have some time to chill.

Flip on the computer to do my daily 'puzzles'. Guinever rises and comes and announces that Nancy has passed away in the night. Nancy is Guin's Great Aunt. Yandell's sister...she is in her 90s and lives on Battery Place in Charleston South Carolina. The news comes from her cousin, Edward. Further news is they plan to have her funeral here in Louisville.

Around 10:30, Guin announces that her friend is coming by about 11. But! aha! I know this friend and there are zero chances she will make it at the appointed time. Sure enough, we later learn she sets back her arrival to 11:45. Also, her husband has just gotten out of the hospital with a heart scare. But he is ok. Wow.

So. Morning passes. I set the cutlery out. I set up candles. A wineglass is broken. Clean that up. Load the dishwasher and wipe clean the countertops in the kitchen.

Jane finally comes over. She brings a little bowl of cranberry sauce. Guin exchanges her gifts with her. She gives a report on Gus. He got out of hospital for Thanksgiving. He's a type 1 diabetes aged 67. She reveals she did not drive him to hospital...their son, Nolan did. That seems tough. Gus was wanting to go to hospital and had to threaten to drive himself.

Isabel calls, the range at Summit isn't working. She talks to Guin and I call a bit later and they got it working.

I am trying to avoid chores. So far there have been only a few minor ones.

I am tasked with chopping onions for oyster pie and

with making the 'essence' for oyster pie.

But it's not with a straight forward "will you...(do the task) it's nine yards of malarkey and a backstory before we ever get to the point. I grumble. She threatens that "you can live alone if you want to."

So ...that's great.

So, she puts one of her father's old light jazz cds on. This small touch is an homage to the golden days when her family was alive. (in fact the whole day is an homage.) I make the essence.

Next , I am informed I am needed to edit Aunt Nancy's obituary. So, it's about a half hour to retrieve the first draft beca it gets sent via an email account we haven't used for 4 years.

Before that can be done, Guin announces she is sick of chopping oysters. I am enlisted to chop the last packet of Pacific oysters. Gross as F. Then, since doing so well at this repugnant task, I am enlisted to remove the plastic coverings for the six Cornish hens. This is, as well, a gruesome chore and sloppy because of the 'sauce' they are packed in.

So I correct the obit misspelling of our family name. Then Dave Keith asks by message for the addresses of Nancy's sons. That message gets passed on.

Guin is feeling like 4 pm is too optimistic, so calls are exchanged and the proximate hour is reset to 5 pm.

I pour myself a shot of whiskey.

bacon is fried for the sake of the oyster pie recipe. So it goes.

It is now 3:05 PM

4:52. So, the oyster pie was made and cooked. Guin discovered she used eggs from a dozen with an expiration date in July. So, I checked and the best recommendation is to toss it. So...her response is that I need to be more helpful in cleaning out the refridgerator. Oh. Ok. It's really my fault when you think about it.

5:43. So I slapped the hens in the oven. Then I head upstairs for a quick shower. I get a clean tee and dash in with a clean shirt. Coming downstairs Martha is here. (kids on the way). I immediately explain the blow up on the corn pudding and take ALL the blame. I volunteer that it was I that fucked up on the eggs. ALL my fault. Then, on to getting the music started. The Zombies "the Look of Love" seems right on point.

8:09 pm. Dinner is finished. The deserts are coming out. Everyone is in a good mood. The boat has been righted. It's a smooth sail.

AMROD and the JFK assassination

62 years ago today, JFK was murdered. I was only 5 years old that day. I have some sketchy memories. I was emotionally aware of the shock to everyone and I recall seeing a grainy newsreel of a man carrying the rifle that had been discovered in the Texas Schoolbook Depository out through a crowded room...holding it over his head so all could see. I was too little to understand anything more than the feelings this caused. The people I was around were shocked and saddened and confused.

In the 1970s I became somewhat more politically aware. Vietnam had divided the nation. It definitely pitted the feeling of being Pro anything America did...with one's moral sense. I didn't know it then but it was an experience of what now is a common feeling, "cognitive dissonance".

For me, the sequel to JFK being murdered was Richard Nixon resigning in shame due to Watergate. The adults informed us that 'stuff like this did not happen' in the past. I know, now, that this wasn't true really. It's just the public was kept uninformed about all the shit that happens at the high power levels of society.

In 1978, I attended a lecture by author Mark Lane. He had written the first successful 'conspiracy theory' book on the JFK assassination , "Rush to Judgment". He had another book out about the MLK assassination and was touring the nation promoting this book. But, that night his comments sparked a lifelong interest in the details of the JFK case. Now, in 2025, I know one thing for sure...the JFK rabbi hole is one of the deepest, widest and most labyrinthian ones a person might hope to find.

So, here it is, 2025 and in the past few months we have been told that the "WHOLE" JFK government file has been released. This has been a big dud though. Best I can tell is that some government agent went out a week or two before the killing and purposely bungled a bank robbery. Why? He wanted to be put in jail and therefore incapable of being used as a scapegoat for when the asssassination happened. He makes sure he is in jail...doesn't post bond and goes through all that to avoid the rap on JFK. It's proof , of a kind, that people in espionage knew the killing was coming.

Still, that is pretty weak tea compared to all the amazing stuff that we've learned over the years.

In this case, I have looked at it through every angle that became known to me. I have considered an awfully lot of curious facts. But, let me tell you the one fact that is most decisive to me.

If you look at every assassination we have had historically and even internationally, it seems to me the JFK stands out on ONE curiousity that does not occur any any other case, before..or since. In assassinations, you have to have an assassin. (at least one). And, the assassin in every case goes TO the target. Think of recent ones, Charlie Kirk, Maggione, the attempts on Trump. But this pattern is seen all the time. Booth went to Lincoln. (he was not acting in the theater the night of the killing). Mark Chapman stalked John Lennon. Hinckley went to Ronald Reagan. This seems almost universal. But, in the JFK assassination, Oswald worked at the Texas Book Depositiory building weeks or months before it was ever known that it would be along JFK's parade route on Nov. 22. So...who made the decision to bring JFK to...Oswald? Who decided to DELIVER the president to the assassin?

Here is what is interesting, Associate Deputy Director Lt. Gen. Charles P. Cabell

Served as Associate Deputy Director (a role assisting the DDCI) from 1962 until his resignation on January 31, 1963, following the Kennedy assassination (though his exit was not directly tied to it). He was a key figure in operations planning during the early 1960s but had left by November 1963.

Then there was the mayor of Dallas: Mayor of Dallas. EARL Cabell.

May 1961 – February 1964

Chief executive of the city; directly responsible for the Dallas Police Department, city administration, and the official arrangements for President Kennedy’s visit on November 22, 1963 (motorcade route, security coordination with Secret Service, etc.). He personally approved the final motorcade route that went through Dealey Plaza.

Consider this:

Earle Cabell had been a CIA asset (covert, not a full-time employee) since at least 1956, according
to a declassified 1975 CIA memorandum (CIA document 1163-1023). His cryptonym was “AMROD”.
He was the younger brother of Lt. Gen. Charles P. Cabell, who had been Deputy Director of the CIA
(1953–1962) until he was fired by President Kennedy along with Allen Dulles and Richard Bissell
after the Bay of Pigs failure.

So in November 1963, the man whose city government hosted Kennedy’s visit—and whose police department was in charge of local security along the motorcade route—was the brother of a recently dismissed very senior CIA officer and himself a long-time CIA asset.

MY THEORY ON THE JAN 6 PIPEBOMBER

"$500,000 REWARD"

I saw this on my computer the other day and investigated. It turns out the FBI/DOJ are stumped in finding the January 6 Pipebomber who put bombs at the DNC and RNC national headquarters on the day of the insurrection. Actually, video evidence shows that "PB" (as I call them) put them there the night before on Jan 5 2021. The bombs were found on Jan 6 about 1 pm...about the same time the rioting started.

The FBI has a webpage dedicated to the Jan 6 Pipebomber so I went there and poked around. It has good information about where and when PB did the dirty work. I was bored so, I thought, 'eh maybe I will take a crack at it." FBI SITE

There are some mysteries and when you turn the rock over, you pretty soon see a lot of puzzling questions and problems. For example, for all the tons of surveillance video...PB did a good job of hiding identity. The costume is perfectly anonymous. Grey hoodie--blue jeans--sneakers--gloves--mask---backpack and none of it is 'unique'. But the case is far more mysterious than that. My first "shock" discovery was that the pipe bombs were set with common kitchen timers. That meant that they only had one hour they could be set before detonation. These were planted 17 hours BEFORE the riots of the next day. That meant, to set them off someone would have to return to them to start the timer. That's unusual.

Next, the FBI recovered the bombs and they found ZERO forensic evidence.ie, no fingerprints and no DNA. Well, for bombs that's NOT unusual because usually they are looking at detonated bombs in which the explosion itself destroys any forensic evidence. But...in this case...the lack of it meant that PB made these knowing from the get go that no such evidence could be left on the bomb because they were likely NOT going to be detonated. HUH???

So, I dug a little deeper. I watched the surveillance videos from street cameras and security cameras along PB's route. PB first walked around the DNC headquarter area and sat down on a park bench next to some bushes.

The bomb was laid on the ground under a bush...but pretty much in plain view. Then PB walked a couple blocks to the RNC area and put a bomb next to some garbage cans behind the Capitol Club building which is adjacent to the RNC building. Again...the bomb is in plain view and not covered up. We know this because of the pictures made the next day and the fact that the first bomb found (the RNC bomb) was spotted by a woman who was just walking down the alley to take care of her laundry. Why not lay a magazine or some cloth or something over the bombs to hide them?

Well this is puzzling but if I want that $500k I still need to identify the PB. I watched and rewatched the videos. So far... I got only one clue. When PB sits down on the park bench they make a move pinching their upper arm and moving up to the shoulder. This looks like what a woman does who is moving up bra straps that have fallen off the shoulder. In another video when PB is walking in front of some brownstone houses....PB seems to have a 'feminine gait". It's not much, but it makes me think that PB is a female. (Great! I've narrowed down the suspects by 50%!!!) .

As I was reading about this, I learned there had been a congressional hearing about the investigation. It turned out to be yet another MAGA feast of Republicans trying to make the DC police and FBI look bad. But....whatever. Amid the nonsense...I learned on interesting fact. It turns out that there had been an arrest made of a man who was parked across from the RNC who had a bunch of Molotov Cocktails

in the back of his truck on January 6. WHAT???

Yeah...so after PB's bombs were discovered, the police cordoned off the area and did a security sweep of the area and the vehicles parked near the DNC and RNC. Right across from the RNC they saw the handle of a weapon sticking out from under a jacket in the cab of a red pickup truck. They did a full blown search of this truck and found a case of Molotov cocktails, small arms, a bunch of ammo and even a CROSSBOW. (silent but deadly). The Congressional hearing and apparently the cops quickly decided this was just a coincidence and was not related to the PB case.

But, here at Goliath and Wimmens we are not so easily diverted. I dug in.

So, on Jan 6, the police waited to see who would return to the red pickup. Around 6 pm Lonnie Coffman, a man from Alabama came to the truck and identified it as his vehicle. Lonnie wound up being arrested.

LONNIE COFFMAN

Ok. So I couldn't say who PB was. But, I wondered if maybe Lonnie knew. I mean, it seems like the FBI decided "Naw...he didn't have nothing to do with PB" and has moved on. But I wasn't so sure. Lonnie got charged and wound up getting about a 4 year prison sentence. I started looking into his case. He had brought 11 molotov cocktails to the event.

He parked right across from the RNC HQ and only a stones throw from where the PB bomb was left.

The FBI got the surveillance video and was able to track Lonnie. Here he is walking from his truck to the Capitol.

I looked carefully at the photo to see if I could find PB in it anywhere...perhaps some who "could" be PB but nothing definite.

Lonnie was definitely a part of organized militia groups. I read his handwritten letter in which he asked the judge for mercy and told the judge he had come to DC alone.

That he acted alone. In his sentencing statement he did not explain why he had molotov cocktails. But, the judge was also informed by the DOJ that Lonnie had a HELLUVA lot of militia involvement.

One of the public documents from Coffman's case shows that as early as 2014 the government had him as a participant in "Camp Lonestar" which is a gathering place for Texas militias. In May 2021, he was identified as a member of "a militia group from South Texas known as "American Patriots" and he was also in "the Southwest Desert Militia".

So, I concluded that despite Lonnie saying he was alone and didn't come to DC to meet anyone...I think he was lying...to look more sympathetic to the judge.

I looked at that last photo of Lonnie very carefully. Something did NOT feel right about it. I thought about it and then I realized something.

Yeah. Lonnie has BACKED his vehicle into an ANGLED parking spot. Not only that but I enhanced the photo and about 12 vehicles are BACKED into these spots on First Street in Washington DC. That is quite UNUSUAL. To check myself, I went on google earth to look at the street. On a "Normal" day, I found a number of vehicles parked in those same spots...but they were all FACED INWARDS.

If you 'blow up' the Jan 6 photo here, you can see a Box Truck just north and on the other side of the street from Lonnie's red pickup. (with white camper on the bed). Well, the PB bomb was just through that alley way from where the Box Truck is emerging and around the corner. That's why I say Lonnie was a 'stones throw' from the PB bomb.

I also realized that NONE of these other vehicles ...including the White Van with Hazard decals on the back, were searched. The police had not been able to look in and see weapons in plain view in those vehicles. But my gut tell me that ALL those backed in vehicles were not there by coincidence.

MY THEORY:

Lonnie Coffman and the PBer are part of the same group. PB set the Bombs in place but they were placed there only as a contingency.

If the protesters met actual armed oppression like their propoganda and gossip projected...like the Czars Kosacks opening fire on the people in 1914...or like Tianemenn Square... Coffman and his 'buddies' would withdraw to his truck and he would distribute the Molotov cocktails and small arms and ammo to the group so they could 'fight back.' The PB would have had the mission of going to set the timers on bombs with the intent of diverting the govt force and drawing them away so the militiamen could have more tactical options.

It was a crude military contingency plan. If , as it actually unfolded...govt troops didn't fire on the crowd...they were not to be set off.

According to the probable cause affidavit in Coffman's case , sworn to by U.S. Capitol Police Agent Lawrence Anyaso, the following events occurred when Coffman showed up trying to return to his truck on the evening of January 6.:

"At approximately 6:30 p.m., a blue sedan with a female driver and a male front passenger, approached law enforcement officers in the 400 block of First Street, Southeast. Officers made contact with the vehicle, and the male passenger stated that he was trying to get to his vehicle that was parked in the 300 block of First Street, Southeast, which is the location that the Red GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck had been located and searched. When the officers asked the man to provide a description of the vehicle, the male passenger stated that it was a red pickup truck. The officers then asked what the male passenger’s name was, and he stated that his name was “Lonnie.” As noted herein, officers had previously determined that the red GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck with Alabama license plate 52HJ703 was registered to Lonnie L. Coffman. The man asked officers whether they had located the bombs, which officers initially understood to be a reference to the components to the destructive devices located in COFFMAN’s truck, but later understood to be a reference to the secure perimeter that had been set up by law enforcement, which perimeter had kept COFFMAN from returning to his car earlier."

OMG!!!

Coffman (the self proclaimed lone wolf) is in a sedan with a woman (PB???) and he "...asked the officers whether they had located the bombs..."

How would Coffman have known to ask this question? Answer: He wouldn't unless he was 'in on it'.

3. Dig out the name of the woman who drove Lonnie to his truck in her blue sedan and find out how he came to be in her sedan for this ride to the truck. Does she have a grey hoodie and a certain kind of tennis shoe???

On September 6, the Judge in the Georgia case denied Chesebro's motion to sever his trial from that of his co-defendant, Sidney Powell. This must have been a hellacious blow to the Cheese's dream of sanitizing his alleged criminal acts from that of his more nefarious co-defendants and, worse, a more obnoxious and unpleasant co-defendant as we find in that critter known as Sidney "release the Kraken" Powell.

Indeed, as Chesebro's attorneys argued for severance they pointedly and repeatedly drew down on the charges as brought on the Cheese as being 'the acts of an intellectual'. In other words, Cheese didn't really do a damn thing, nor is he acccused of doing an action...but instead...he engaged in a purely intellectual and theoretical activity. This was exactly what I noted in my original article in this series. ( "The Prosecution of Kenneth Chesebro", part 1) So far, we are not aware of any comment by Chesebro on this setback.

Of interest is a comment made by the judge as he announced his ruling denying the severance. He noted that all parties conceded that we have 'two silos' of evidence for Chesebro and Powell that do not appear to overlap. Hence, we may presume that during the trial, the judge will tell the jurors to not hold Sidney's actions against Chesebro and vice versa. (assuming the evidence doesn't reveal any surprises linking them directly). Chesebro's lawyers (and Powell's) also made clear they would not adopt a posture of 'blaming' the other as the trial proceeded. That's probably a wise decision.

I decided to drill down a bit on Chesebro's memorandums. If you go over and look at the Federal indictment against Donald Trump and others in the Washington D.C. case, you can see that Chesebro appears there as an unindicted co-conspirator (#5) and that his memorandums are prominently featured. But the government is swift to assert that Chesebro's intellectual theorizing quickly moved beyond the merely theoretical into criminal territory AFTER the election. There, the indictment reads:

"The December 6 Memorandum ("Fraudulent Elector Memo") marked a sharp departure from Co-Conspirator 5's Wisconsin Memo, advocating that the alternate electors originally conceived of to preserve rights in Wisconsin instead be used in a number of states as fraudulent electors to prevent Biden from receiving the 270 electoral votes necessary to secure the presidency on January 6. The Fraudulent Elector Memo suggested that the Defendant's electors in six purportedly "contested" states (Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin) should meet and mimic as best as possible the actions of the legitimate Biden electors, and that on January 6, the Vice President should open and count the fraudulent votes, setting up a fake controversy that would derail the proper certification of Biden as president-elect.

c. The December 9 Memorandum ("Fraudulent Elector Instructions") consisted of Co-Conspirator 5's instructions on how fraudulent electors could mimic legitimate electors in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. Co-Conspirator 5 noted that in some states, it would be virtually impossible for the fraudulent electors to successfully take the same steps as the legitimate electors because state law required formal participation in the process by state officials, or access to official resources."

It's evident that Jack Smith's team regard Chesebro's 'evolution' as much more than mere lawyering. The whole theory of the Georgia prosecutor will be to convince a jury that the December 6 and December 9 writing of Chesebro to the Trump team turned from mere theorizing to action designed to steal the election.

Laurence Tribe is no slouch as a lawyer and a professor of Constitutional law. Here is a comment he gave the Harvard Crimson magazine:

"“He’s so much the architect of the whole plan that I think it’s very hard to imagine him getting off without a multi-year sentence,” he added.

Tribe added that he was shocked when he first learned of the nature of Chesebro’s involvement with the Trump campaign.

“Part of me felt sorry for him. Part of me felt angry that he would betray the country and the Constitution in that way. Part of me felt it was such a terrible waste,” Tribe said. “He had a good mind, and he was putting it to use for obviously evil purposes.”

The Prosecution of Sidney K. Powell

Let's take a look at Sidney Powell's case. I don't know why, but, for some reason my personal feelings were most offended by Sidney Powell during the whole 'Stop the Steal' efforts of the Trump campaign. After 30 plus years of practicing law, somehow I felt I knew this lawyer. Her breathtaking arrogance and self satisfied declamations of what she knew about the election. Her nasal and monotone presentation and apparent complete lack of self awareness. She was far worse, to me, than Rudy "Sparky" Giuliani. He, at least, on some level, seemed to have some awareness of the bullshit he was selling. She gave no quarter...no morsel of indication that perhaps she could be in error. I really loathed her (and still do). She is just the kind of lawyer I think gives all lawyers such a bad reputation.

I wrote last about her co-defendant, Kenneth Chesebro and his unusual tactic of moving for a speedy trial of his case...effectively severing his trial from all the other co-defendants, including Donald Trump. I talked about how it actually looked, in his case, like it might be a good move and I predicted he would be acquitted. See "the Prosecution of Kenneth Chesebro"

About the same time I published this, news came that Sidney Powell had jumped on Chesebro's bandwagon and had also filed for a speedy trial. In my facebook discussion of this, I expressed my certainty that Chesebro must be spitting nails in anger at Sidney. She is probably the last person he would want sitting with him in court as 'they' go to trial together. Sure enough, not long after Chesebro filed a motion to sever his trial from Sidney's. Rolling Stone magazine titled it's article "Ken Chesebro Wants Nothing to Do With Sidney Powell — Especially in Court"

So, today, I am focusing on Sidney's trial and just exactly what she is accused of doing in violation of the law. As before, I reviewed the charging indictment and focused specifically on what Sidney is accused of doing. I will boil it down. First she is accused of participating in the grand scheme by going to the Republican national headquarters, after the election, with the Trump team and making 'false statements' there. (we aren't told what the exact falsehoods were.). Her next crime is where she is accused of hiring a forensic data firm (SullivanStrickler LLC) for the performance of data collection and 'analytics' on Dominion Voting Systems equipment "in Michigan and elsewhere".

Third, she is accused of being present at a meeting of the Trump team where they discussed strategies and theories intended to influence the outcome of the November 3 election including possibly "...seizing the voting equipment and appointing SIDNEY KATHERINE POWELL as a special counsel with broad authority to investigate allegations of voter fraud.." (NOTE: voting equipment was never 'seized' and Sidney Powell was never 'appointed as special counsel').

The Fourth body of claims concerns her interacting with the company she hired or contracted with to conduct forensic data analysis and the taking and tampering with the Georgia voting system, data therein, and including tampering or taking voter information and possibly ballots.

Finally, she is accused of making ".... at least one of the following false statements and representations in sworn deposition with the United States House of Representatives Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol:

1. That she "didn't have any role in really setting up" efforts to access voting machines in Coffee County, Georgia, or Antrim County, Michigan;

2. That she was aware there was an "effort by some people" to get access to voting machines in Georgia but that she did not "know what happened with that" and did not "remember whether that was Rudy or other folks."

Well, for a minute, let me talk about the two claims that jumped out at me and caused alarm, the RNC meeting...where she allegedly lied and the meeting where they talked about all kinds of things like seizing the voting machines and making Sidney a special counsel for the DOJ. Ok, in hindsight ...maybe.. MAYBE you could see these as being part of the overall plan to overthrow the voting process as it culminated in the idiotic insurrection on January 6. But as much as it pains me to say it...criminal charges aren't supposed to be like this. Imagine yourself at a party with a bunch of people and somebody starts spitballing about how you could rob a bank and get away with it. Maybe as the joking goes on...they even propose that YOU could play the role of getaway driver! Everyone laughs and has another drink. But then, three months later some chucklehead at the party actually tries to rob a bank. And you get charged right along with them because ...gee...you were there when they talked about it! Even gave you a role. I know I know....you didn't actually do anything like being the wheelman...but they PROPOSED it as a possibility!!! No. No thank you. Criminal justice doesn't work that way and no, not even Sidney Powell can be guilty because some knucklehead thought making her a special counsel to the DOJ was a doable. And, no...going and spreading lies at the RNC meeting won't hunt either. Hell, Sidney was spewing lies on NBC. "I'm a gonna release the KRAKEN!!" she said. Oh boy. The sad thing is that this actually does give credence to the knuckleheads who claim this is all about 'criminalizing' free speech. I think Sidney is found 'not guilty' on anything related to those things.

The 'meat on the bone' accusation is if she really did dig in with her forensic data team and illegally access the computer systems in Georgia and steal (take without official permission) and tamper with ballot data. That's a highly technical sequence of actions and, frankly, I don't know what the actual evidence is surrounding that. So, I am not going to venture an opinion about whether she committed a criminal act there. So...the 'jury is out' on that one.

Sidney seeking a 'speedy trial'.

I think Sidney is smart enough to recognize that Chesebro is probably making a good move in his case when he demanded a speedy trial. But she is also too arrogant to understand that what is good for him may not be so good for her. And whereas, I can easily envision Chesebro being smart enough to listen to his lawyers and not testify at his own trial, there is no way in the world I can imagine keeping Sidney off of the witness stand even though she is such a nasty arrogant person that the jury could very well convict her just because they detest her so much. She won't listen to her lawyers since...Sidney always knows best! That's why the Cheese is so desperate to want his speedy trial to be severed from hers. She's poison and he knows it.

So here's my prediction: Sidney will be acquitted on things related to being a liar or a fantasist or hanging our with knuckleheads spit-balling ideas and options Trump MIGHT have pursued. But, if she takes the stand (and I think she will) she manages to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory and gets convicted...of something or other.

The prosecution of Kenneth Chesebro

This is Kenneth Chesebro. He's a lawyer. Yeah, that's a mugshot from Fulton County Georgia and he is the defendant who asked for a speedy trial in the Trump scandal. I guess a lot of fellow Democratic Party members are happy about this Georgia case because it's way fun to have mugshots of Donald Trump and all his cronies? For me the most Schadenfreunde I got was from Sydney Powell's mugshot. She is excrutiatingly obnoxious to me and the devils of my worse nature delighted in seeing her humiliated after hearing that nasal horrible voice of hers whining on a year or so ago about 'releasing the kraken' and how she had all this proof of a stolen election. Pure lies it turned out .... causing old Sparky himself...Rudy Giuliani to say, "we have lots of theories but no evidence".

But, as a lawyer I was intrigued by this legal move of Chesebro to demand a speedy trial. As a long time criminal defense trial lawyer, I am pretty familiar with the defendant type that demands a speedy trial. Yeah...it's right there in the Constitution as a guaranteed right as prominent as the right to remain silent, the right to a lawyer, right to a trial by jury. But you don't hear much about this particular right and you see it in action even less. Generally, clients that demand a speedy trial fall into two classes: A. Hard Boiled experienced convicts sitting in jail with hopeless cases who are willing to play a 'game' with the overworked prosecutor team that if they put this kind of pressure on them and the system to put a trial together that fast (within 70 days in Indiana) they will wilt and make a sweet sweet deal OR they won't be able to put it together and the case will fail. In "game theory" this is known as "playing chicken with the prosecutor". It's a really really bad strategy in my opinion. The other kind of defendant is B. Somebody who is NOT GUILTY and knows it.

Which of these is Chesebro? Well...we know he's not sitting in jail.

Look, I am putting aside my partisan hat and putting on my 'lawyer' hat. And I 'dug in' to the case against Chesebro. I read the Georgia indictment all the way through. I read it again focused on the specific allegations against Chesebro.

Mostly, he is accused of writing a memorandum on the topic of 'when the deadline for counting all the votes is'. I am boiling this down significantly, but essentially, he wrote a legal memorandum challenging the generally understood deadlines for completing State vote counts in national elections. He basically theorized that it the vote count could go on right on until the President of the Senate (ie the Vice President Pence) certified the electoral college count which didn't necessarily have to be on January 6. Pshaww you say!

But, as a lawyer, some things sort of leap out at me. First, this is exactly the sort of legal memorandum that is written every day of the year as analysis to help clients sort out complex situations. Usually you see this sort of thing in the business or corporate world. Chesebro's memo assumes certain things: a. That the suspicions about the true count have a basis in fact. b. that a proper count is more important than a rushed count. He winds up giving the 'client' a basis for moving forward and getting a slate of electors for your side 'certified' so that if it turns out you win in the final recount...you have electoral votes to present to Congress. Chesebro wasn't just making that up either. He found that in 1960 Hawaii Democrats had their slate of electors and when a very late recount put Kennedy ahead of Nixon, they sent those electors to Congress where...get this...Nixon accepted them as President of the Senate.

So, I am asking myself...how is that or any of that criminal?

The whole scheme might be criminal if somewhere along the line someone on 'your team' committed some criminal act. In this case there seem to be two or three acts that could be seen as criminal. First the attempt to stop Congress on January 6. Curiously, Chesebro was in DC on January 6 and tagging along with notorious Alex Jones. But he did not enter the Capitol, or so far as I can tell do anything personally, to physically delay the process of Congress.

Other overt acts were when a team of trump supports seem to have harassed some election workers at their homes. Chesebro doesn't appear to be involved in that and isn't accused of that.

Then the final questionable act is the Trump team getting access to the computer voting system and monkeying around with it. Again, Chesebro isn't in on that.

The actual indictment mentions him a few times sending emails to other team members. But I am having a hard time believing that a jury will make that 'criminal'.

Chesebro apparently was an acolyte of famed Harvard Law Professor and Brahman Lawrence Tribe. (who has now disowned his former student) and Chesebro seems to be a truly gifted, former liberal, lawyer with a first rate legal mind.

Here's my prediction: Chesebro goes to trial. Some surprises come bouncing out at trial. He is found not guilty on all counts. He is portrayed as a proxy for Trump and it builds Trump and his supporters up far more in the national zeitgeist as the Geogia prosecution comes off as a 'failure'.

As we go forward, I am going to keep myself open minded. But, as much as I don't support his cause...I think this case is weak weak tea.

Louisville Cold Case Murder Epidemic Part 1

July 17, 2023. Some months ago I came across the website sponsored by the Louisville Police department where cold case homicides are posted. The cases are divided by year. They go back 18 years to 2005. You can find this website by clicking here: COLD CASE PAGE It is incredibly depressing to go back all the way and see the number of victims of murder in Louisville in this time period. In recent years there are usually around 120 unsolved killings happening each year.

120!!! EACH YEAR. 10 EACH MONTH 1 EVERY THREE DAYS.

Another disturbing aspect of this is when you look through these faces....you quickly realize that the vast majority of victims are young black men.

Louisville's population is about 625,000. You have about 24% of that population is black. (roughly...150k) But on this dreadful list of unaccounted for dead ....It's probably 80% or more black. Young black men mostly. It's kinda hard to figure out percentages for age and race. But a rough look makes the population as a whole about 62 % between age 18 and 65. That would make about 93,000 black people in the age group we are looking at generally. Half of that (the men) gets us to about 46,500 adult black men.

The numbers of unsolved homicides exploded in 2020 (Covid??) That year shows about 120 unsolved killings. (And note...we are not including the numbers killed --but the case was solved-- in these calculations). According to one news source, in 2020 there were 170 homicides in Louisville... check it out: "LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The year 2020 will be remembered for several things. In Louisville, it's been a record-setting year for gun violence. As of Sunday, the Louisville Metro Police Department's (LMPD) weekly data shows at least 170 criminal homicides so far this year. Of those, 157 were shootings. There were another 584 non-fatal shootings. " (Spectrum News) That means about 50 killings were solved...but most went unsolved.

Folks, if this was some kind of infectious disease causing deaths at this rate...we would be in full panic mode and demanding a medical emergency intervention!

During Covid, I guess I got more and more used to going down 'rabbit holes' on the internet. But I have to say, nothing has stopped me quite like the Cold Case page. It seems like I can only go through it so much. It makes me feel depression and sadness when I see all these young faces...now dead. No answers.

But, I do find myself digging in further sometimes. I will google the victims name...check out if they had a facebook page.. try to get a sense of what their life was. That is disheartening too. Often...very often if they have a FB page/profile...the posts and pictures reveal street life. "Gangsta" life sometimes. You see guns. Money. Other times you see family. Nieces and nephews. Often...there is NOTHING. It's as if they didn't even have enough life for this small cyber-dust memory. Other times.. you might find something like both ends of a story. Maybe. For example I was looking at homicide # 66 of 2023. WDRB news has a 'murder map' and on it, lists of killings through the year. On May 19, a young man was gunned down. I found more than is usual in this particular news story that tells how the victim was outside, in broad daylight mowing the grass. His uncle was there. ...told WDRB that he was inside his kitchen when he heard gunshots outside. He said his 23-year-old nephew was shot while cutting the lawn.

"I was in the kitchen minding my business and he came in the house and said, 'Got shot, call 911,'" Brian Horton said. "He called 911, he came in rushing and I heard a boom boom boom boom boom." .

I cross referenced the date and street address with the Cold Case page and learned the young man shot down with such apparent senslessness..was a fellow named Javon Bailey. Case unsolved. I googled Jayvon Bailey and ran him on Facebook. The next shoe dropped. In 2020 Javon was arrested for shooting another man while driving on the Watterson. Here's the story. Phillip King, 18, and Javon Bailey, 20, both pleaded not guilty in court Thursday morning to charges in connection with an incident that occurred Monday evening on Interstate 264. Police said King was driving westbound on the interstate with Bailey as a passenger when they pulled up beside another car and fired shots, hitting a man in the other car several times in the back. . Here is the link to the story: ***** . Wlky did a newstory on the case too back in 2020. According to WLKY the police searched Javon's bedroom and found drugs. Wave news had the best photo of Javon from his arrest. (along with his co-defendants). Here's Jayvon

So, I have questions. First, how did Jayvon get out of jail after 2.5 years to even be in a position to be shot? Second, We are never told the name of the victim of the Watterson Shooting or anything about motive. The drugs in Jayvon's room (allegedly) also throws the thing in a different light. But, all this seems like a lot of fodder for investigators to follow up on. Dunno.

I was just thinking, though, that if I was the detective, I would want to know where the victim in the December 2020 was on May 19 2023. Maybe?

The Trump Indictment in Florida Does it HOLD UP?

The first 31 counts against Pres. Trump are called "Willful retention of National Security Documents"

To be sure, this is not a charge one runs across every day. I thought I would look at this crime and see what precedent, if any, that I could find. I found 1 case. The case of U.S.A. v. Harold T. Martin. Martin according to Wikipedia ..."American computer scientist and former contractor for Booz Allen Hamilton who pleaded guilty to illegally removing 50 terabytes of data from the National Security Agency.^[4]^[5] The United States government reportedly failed to note or effectively respond to a number of issues with Martin's security practices and behaviors over a period of 10 to 20 years.^[6]^[7] The motive for the crime has been a subject of debate, investigators reportedly had difficulty determining if Martin was engaged in conventional espionage or digital hoarding since throughout his decades of work, he appeared not to have ever accessed any of the files once he removed them from government facilities

In his case, like Trump's he was subjected to a search of his home. I went online to Google Earth to take a look at his house. Oddly, his house is blurred out and cannot be examined on Google Earth. I am pretty sure his case has something to do with that.

Like Trump (so far as we know at this point) Martin didn't 'do' anything with the information he took. In fact, it is reported that he didn't even access or look at the computer files he had taken.

In his case, he entered a plea agreement for nine years followed by 3 years supervised release.

Martin agreed to plead guilty to Willful Retention of National Defense Information (18 U.S. Code § 793). The agreement ultimately called for nine years in prison, three years supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000, which represent the maximum punishment recommended for that crime under federal sentencing guidelines.^[47]

On July 19, 2019, Martin was sentenced to nine years in prison.^[48] At sentencing, Martin apologized before Judge Bennett, and said he recognized that taking the data was wrong. If I were Trump's lawyer, or in Trump's shoes, I would find this precedent troubling. Like Trump, Martin didn't have to be shown to have 'misused' the information and documents. All he did was take and possess them.

Count 32 is a charge of Conspiracy. The government alleges Trump conspired with his aide to obstruct justice. Conspiracy is a 'different' kind of crime. Generally it boils down to two or more people agreeing to commit a crime and then one or both of them taking a 'substantial step' in furthering the crime. You don't have to actually commit the crime to be guilty. It has been called 'the prosecutor's darling' because the prosecutor doesn't even have to prove any crime was committed. It's enough if there is an agreement and someone does SOMETHING to move towards doing it. This will be difficult to defend. Especially if Trump's aide 'turns State's evidence'. It will be interesting to watch how the heretofore unknown Mr. Waltine (crazy name right?) Nauta holds up as the 'second' man in this drama.

Count 33 is "Withholding a document or record". Well, I didn't find ANY cases that dealt with this crime. (My database is all Federal courts in all Circuits of the USA). Same for Count 35 "Concealing a document in a federal investigation" So these two counts seem to be groudbreaking. There are charges of providing false information. That's a pretty well known crime. It's the famous drop to the lawyer's classic advice... "You can get in trouble if you lie to the police...but not if you don't say anything."

As for the backdrop on all the, "The Presidential Records Act" Well Justice prosecuted Ollie North for his shenanigans. The court said: "44 U.S.C. § 2201(2) defines "Presidential records" as "documentary materials, or any reasonably segregable portion thereof, created or received by the President, his immediate staff, or a unit or individual of the Executive Office of the President whose function is to advise and assist the President, in the course of conducting activities which relate to or have an effect upon the carrying out of the constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties of the President."

Presidential records do "not include documentary materials that are ... personal records," § 2201(2)(B), which Section 2201(3) defines as "all documentary materials, or any reasonably segregable portion thereof (so in original), of a purely private or nonpublic character which do not relate to or have an effect upon the carrying out of the constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties of the President. Such term includes —

(A) diaries, journals, or other personal notes serving as the functional equivalent of a diary or journal which are not prepared or utilized for, or circulated or communicated in the course of, transacting Government business."

What is mentioned in the indictment...it certainly looks like much of the document hoard meets this definition.

Trump has mentioned Nixon in his ranting about being picked on. Here's a quote from Nixon's US Supreme Court Case. Nixon didn't want to turn over a TON of stuff from his time in the Whitehouse and the case went to the highest court.

The materials at issue consist of some 42 million pages of documents and some 880 tape recordings of conversations. So, yeah...this has been an issue before.

So, as best I can tell in the past it was decided that a former President does NOT have a special privilege to retain his own papers if he wants them.

November 6 2022, Today woke up and every single person in the nation had one hour less of life. Daylight Savings Time (DST) dictated that your 7 am wake up time was now 6 am. It didn't matter whether you liked it or not. It didn't matter if it 'helps' you or not. The 'powers that be' (PTB) decided to take an hour away from you and from EVERYONE. FYI ...some quick calculation reveals that by this seemingly 'innocent' move , the PTB took away 37,785 years from the nation without lifting a finger.

In days past, we did not really think much about DST. Wasn't this just a leftover mechanism from the days when the US was an agriculture nation? It gave farmers an extra hour to milk the cows and such? That's just exactly what PTB WANT you to think. After all, the USA hasn't been an agriculturally dominated nation since 1885! No. how about this.... much like the recent fanatic mandates that people wear masks as they interact with others....how about DST as a very subtle and effective TOOL used to acclimate the citizenry to unquestioningly go along with any idiotic mandate issued by the Government???

GOLIATH says it's well nigh "TIME" to take a closer look at DST. First thing to know...the laws establishing DST are enforced by the US Department of Transportation*1. Was this for the BENEFIT of the citizenry? The US ordered various 'studies' to determine what benefits might come from the use of DST. Shockingly, the only study to produce ANY meaningful data showed that DST caused MORE deaths of CHILDREN*2

So...WHY has this nation been engaged in a practice that CAUSES MORE CHILD DEATHS for the past 6 decades???

The BEGINNING OF DST

If you dig in, you will see a quaint claim that DST is the brainchild of Benjamin Franklin. Oh..how very traditional ..right? After all , he was the genius of the American Revolution for Freedom? How wrong you are if you think this!! Franklin's 'idea' was a gag he came up with while in Paris as the American Ambassodor to France. This is about the same time Franklin took his turn to 'the Dark Side' and became and 'active' member of the HELLFIRE Club. (A notorious satanic club where members engaged in orgies, satan worship, and rumored human sacrifice).

Today's DST was first 'invented' and instituted by the Germans in WW1 in 1916. The PBT reason given was to 'provide for more efficient use of daylight hours'. Of course, that was just a cover. The real reason was to give the German Army an advantage over its enemies. After all, if say...a German General and a British General were decided to launch a surprise attack on each other...and say...both men said "the attack will begin at 7 am tomorrow"? Well...if 7 am were REALLY 6 am for the German general ...then his German Army would have the advantage of surprise and striking the 'first blow'...in other words...MORE MASS KILLING.

AMERICA'S MOTIVES

"Ok, yeah...that is screwy" you say. "But...doesn't DST help the farmers? That's why WE adopted it?"

No. In fact...a BIG "NO" to that idea. DST doesn't do a thing to help farmers who are going to get up and at it regardless of what some damn clock says. In fact...it HURTS farmers by diminishing the amount of time they have to TRADE GOODS. *3

The fact is that up until about 60 years ago, most localities operated with FREEDOM and ran on time schedules that were local. Communities decided what time it was...NOT the FEDERAL Deep State Government. Then the Socialist Democrat dominated Congress created the Uniform Time Act which was signed into Law by Socialist Democrat author of 'the Great Society' Lyndon B. Johnson.

Whatever the given 'motive' might have been, the fact is that once a year everyone in the nation is forced to ACCEPT an abstract thought and measurement FORCED on them not only by the Government but also by the SOCIETY that dominates ...literally...every MOMENT of your waking life. How is that for a 'Great RESET'? And this RESET happens to every human twice a year. A reset that was born in bloodlust of WAR. That claimed American lives as victims when instituted by our German foes. That is PROVEN to cause more deaths of AMERICAN CHILDREN. Are you starting to get the picture???

It has been said, "Time has great importance in human life." and "Human life is measured by time and the cyle of the sun, moon and earth is known as time. Through time we know the year, month, week, day, hour and minute, second and parts thereof, and each time helps us to calculate the speeds of objects and the like"

Losing an hour of your day...is IMPORTANT...being told a fiction, in the Spring, that now 6 pm is 7 pm is just a conjurer's trick the nation goes along with. We grumble and grouse...but basically NO ONE has the audacity to speak up and ask WHY???

But here, at GOLIATH you find just such a VOICE.

STEALING AND "TILTING" elections

If you think about it, you will at some point realize that DST is ALWAYS instituted BEFORE the General Elections in the USA. (whether mid terms or presidential years) Let us ponder whether there might be some effect by this simple 'trick' enforced by the Dept. of Transportation. (For the moment, I am not going to comment on this DOT issue. But doesn't it seem odd for this to be the Department the government uses to express this tyrannical mandate on something as basic as time itself?? Isn't DOT perhaps the one agency that appears COMPLETELY non-partisan...non political? HA! What genius it is really to hide this time enforcement tool in the hands of this GIANT bureacracy.)

The fact is that the GOP is composed mostly of conservatives and the rural communities. This is their strength. And, along with those conservative rural values comes the likelyhood such a person is an 'early riser'. A person who gets up with the sun and gets to work.

On the other hand, The Democrat party is made up of 'urban sophisticates' noted for keeping late hours, enjoying the luxury of sleeping in.

If you want to suppress GOP votes, then, instead of the job starting at 7 am, we make it start at 6 am, leaving you NO TIME to go by the voting booth to cast your vote at 6:45 and still make it to work without being late. But note, this has NO negative effect on the layabout Democrat voter who probably loves to take time off from his job and go vote during the day. But it gets better! The industrious conservative working his usual twelve hour day won't have time to get to the polls after work because ...voila' ...by magic the government moved the hour to close the poll up to 5 and...no...you missed it! THANKS OBAMA!

But over here...our slovenly Democrat voter isn't bothered at all! It just means he takes off work an hour or two earlier!!! DST literally CATERS to Liberal Democrat Government!

And, ok, so this may not have this exact impact on All conservatives or even a majority of them. But, one cannot deny it effects some of them!!! Even if it impacts ONLY 1 or 2 % of conservative voters, that is way more than enough to tilt an election to Liberals.

Take a look at elections where we KNOW DST hasn't infected the process...for example, counting votes in the Electoral College. There the electoral votes cast by state electors is counted. The count is not impacted by DST. What you discover is many examples of GOP candidates winning the electoral college vote ..unsullied by DST...even when it was claimed that a DEM had won the 'popular' vote.

Insult I will never get over

About ten years old. An insult happened and I feel the pain of all of it today. over half a century later. I had the best dog in the world. Name was Bowser. He was a mutt my dad got somewhere or other and he played with me and my brother. He went with us. If a bigger kid tried to bully either one of us...Bowser was there and his bared teeth and low growl put an end to any of that! We played football with him in the fall and in the summer we explored the woods and creeks with him.

At that time, we lived in a new subdivision in Sellersburg called "Woodhaven". There were quite a few teachers or people connected to the school living there. Also, other young families. My dad contracted and built the house at 824 Poplar. To the east of Poplar and running parallel was the much longer Dreyer Lane. On it was the site of the Dreyer farm which had been there decades BEFORE the subdivision was built. "Old Man" Dreyer and his family lived there. They had cattle and ....behind our house about a 1/8 mile from our back door...a farm pond. Ducks were on it sometimes.

Our family also had a pet cat at this time. She had kittens. Our old dog Bowser loved to play with them. He would pick the kittens up by the nape of their neck and walk around with them. (never bit them or broke the skin).

My dad could not afford to build a fence at that time. So Bowser would 'hang around' the house and we had to watch him. But we couldn't always watch him and I guess he got up to some mischief.

It was a summer day. I looked up and two armed men showed up in our back yard ...just off the patio. "Get your dad out here" one said. They were carrying shotguns. I wasn't sure what to do...but before I could do anything...my Dad showed up ...walking through the sliding glass door that opened on to the patio. It was a scary scene.

"What's going on" my dad said.

"You better keep that damn dog of yours tied up and OFF our property!" the older man (who I learned was 'Old Man Dryer') "He's been on our pond and killed one of our ducks"

"Ok. We didn't know he'd been there." my dad responded.

"He carries them around by the neck and breaks their neck...If he shows up over here again...I'm going to blow his head off." (and he shook his shotgun).

At that, the two turned and walked back across our yard and through the empty lot between ours and Dreyer Lane to their home.

Never forget that scene. I learned something about what people were that day. Also, learned my dad wasn't scared to face angry men with guns.

Later, my dad emphasized how we needed to be more vigilant with Bowser. And...because we did not have a fence, dad rigged up a dog trot by attaching a chain to the clothes line Bowser could run up and down on when he was outside. Dad also but a chain on Bowser's doghouse.

My brother and I slept in a bedroom in the basement. Bowser used the chain to drag his doghouse along the house far enough so that he could sleep next to the basement window where he could look in on me and by brother when we were sleeping. That's one helluva dog!

These measures seemed to take care of the problem with the Dreyer farm.

The summer passed and school started up again. When I would get off the bus...the first thing I would usually do was go unchain Bowser. But, one day.... I went to the back yard and he wasn't there. I asked my mom. She didn't know. "Your dad will be home soon". I don't recall, now, where all we looked for Bowser...but I do recall that I found him...he was lying in under some brushy bushes at the edge of woods down the street. He was bloody all over.

My dad carried him home. Dad cleaned him up and examined what was wrong. It didn't take long after the blood was cleaned off. Bowser had taken a blast from a shotgun. The pellets were in him all up and along one side of his body. He was in shock. It must have been quite a blow. Dad could not get all the pellets out. "What's going to happen to him?" I asked. My dad told me we would take care of him but time would tell if he would survive...or not.

Bowser lay on his makeshift bed of old rugs and towels...not moving for three days. We fed and gave him water by hand. But he would not get up. We could not really tell how he was doing.

We figured out that he'd gotten loose from his chain while we were away at school. We deduced he'd gone back to the pond and this was the result. We did not speak to the Dreyer family.

On the fourth day of Bowser's convalescence, I came home from school. I recall that my mom and dad were already home. Bowser still had not risen. Dad encouraged me to go out to the garage and see if he might get up for me. So...I went out to the garage. "C'mon Bowser...c'mon good dog". Bowser saw me and then....very gingerly and feebly...he rose ...and walked a few steps to me. Every day after that he got better.

This is not the end of Bowser's story. But this is the end of the story of how I have a hurt and a wound and a grudge...to this day...to those two men. Old Man probably long dead. But I can still feel the insult he gave me, my family and my dad....and I will not forgive shooting my dog.

Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll

Ten foot tall and bullet proof. There's an expression. So, usually that involves alcohol... and in my story alcohol was involved. But not dominating. Something in me had turned and it's the kind of thing you are young, not previously a big womanizer, but wake up with a naked australian girl in your bed and...its not a big deal. In fact. You just are thinking...how to get her out of here. But she is funny and goofing around under the cover with your morning stuff. Good Lord!

Fuck. I hadn't changed. I was the same guy...but I must have had something different. Anyway it happened. Then an italian girl. They didn't want love. Just fun.

Down at Zorbas... it was the gathering place of all the European and other travelers. Georgio played western rock n roll on his sound system...lots of reggae with Bob Marley. Bob Dylan's "God gave name to all the animals" and classic American rock. Some of us were having fun with "Black Magic Woman" ...and drinking heineken beer. I went outside by the sea to get some air and a black haired Norwegian gal came after me. She was mad at me. I had not paid her enough attention. Was she psycho? What the hell.

"What is this ...this "black magic woman" ..? Why don't you take a look at someone who is right here."

She said this...and, honestly, I had not met her before that night. She came up to me and touched my shoulder. "Black Magic Woman"...and she began to sway. Goddamit.

Somehow, maybe with Stats help...or Ollie's or maybe even Kathy or Gwen's help I extricated myself from the clutches of the amorous Norwegian gal. Something was resisting inside me. Your mind goes back to guys riding around in the backseats of somebody elses's dad's car and talking about sex and being a given if sex was available only a gottam fool would turn it down. But ..there ya go. I turned it down.

How my friends would have laughed. "Gay boy". But, no that wasn't it.

at 21 I was so drawn to women. I had always loved girls. I was mystified by the things that interested them. But I was drawn to their beauty. And, I found beauty or fascination in so many things. Their hands. I am drawn to hands that are so different than my hand. My first real girlfriend had beautiful graceful hands. But, in intimacy that I was blessed with as a young man...so much more than just the clashing of genitals. The curves of the waste or the underside of the breast. Or how she could say words that were only and only ever for me to hear. This killed me. this destroyed me. These were the greatest gifts I ever got in life for a long time. I was kind. Easy and gentle. I didn't ever do physical wrong. This was like milkshakes, cherry pies, beautiful sunsets and a cool breeze, mountain views of miles of beautiful forest...this was a beauty. It was too beautiful to toss around like a glass of beer or something. Then here came Gerta.

Gerta. Considering how drawn I was...Gerta changed me. Another night at Zorbas. Gerta was german and tall and willowy and pretty and in every way I would have jumped up and down for at some other time. We had been on the dance floor. She draped herself on me. Followed me out on the Quay and offered herself to me.

Something inside me seized up. I did not want to be with her. I don't know why. I shouldn't have felt that way. But, I did feel that way. Then I had the dilemma. How to say 'no' to a beautiful woman. That was a new problem for me. I very awkwardly claimed I couldn't...I had an STD. I hope she accepted that lie. I did not want to 'scorn' her. But we parted and I don't think I saw her after that.

So...it seemed like I was NOT screwing around more than I was. But it kept coming.

It was an interesting comparison to "THOR". In the town was Thor. He was a guy about our age. He was from Minnesota or Wisconsin and he was muscular...long blond hair..blue eyes...like a young god. He was TRYING to screw every girl in town...but he was such an asshole that he wasn't getting too far.

Thor had some skunkweed. But, we didn't want it. After hearing Thor go on about how great America was, and how great Minnesota was, and how great his school was and how fucking great Thor was...I wanted nothing to do with him. Seemed like the young women were kind of repelled as well.

Meanwhile, Oliver was doing all he could to court Kathy. I imagine there were some intimate scenes...but disturbed because Ollie was drinking...Kathy wasn't keen on that. Gwen ..the mouse...seemed to be content to be a sister to Stats and me.

You could take a break from the frantic sexualized dancing in Zorbas and the booze and walk out on the quay which had a long barrier to make a harbor for the boats and get to the end and look up at the stars and moon and feel the breeze of the night Mediterranean and talk about how somewhere someone you loved might be looking at the same sky or talking about dreams about what life would be like when you got home. Or joke about Thor, or the girl who got mad because the shopkeeper sprayed bug killer on the pastries to keep the flies off or tell a tale you'd heard about some german girls who got caught sunbathing without tops and were taken to the local police. And the waves lapped at the quay and breeze was so soft and you could hear the rock n roll bouncing out over the water in that faraway music sound has over water. Would all adult life be like this now?

A young american woman organized a Christmas dinner for all the north americans in the village at one of the cafes. She was like 'mom'. She made sure they had turkeys in. But ..the turkeys were boiled or something... but it was a memorable and wonderful meal...with all the American's and Canadians in town together joined in the spirit of the day. That event had no sex, drugs or rock and roll. We sang christmas carols at the table and shared where we were from and a bit about our families back home and what they would be doing today....this Christmas day. And we were in a seaside village in Crete. 200 miles north of Africa.
