it depends on where you are located? the insurance is valid for 40.000 euros, no matter how long you stay? and if is is a tourist visa? it is for 90 days,if student? then it depends on the time of study,
the fact that you are healthy is irrelevant, you could have an accident and encounter high hospital bills.

How much would decent health insurance cost in the USA
for an elder person, say 65, who has no health history in the us due to being an immigrant?

I am talking about the decent type of health insurance one gets when working for a fortune 500 company with low premiums and 20 dollar copays.

ANy advice?

It depends on previous health problemsand what state you live in. There is no such thing as low premiums and $ 20 co-pays unless the employer is paying for the majority of the premiums.

Well, we easily spend more than twice as much per capita as the next most expensive country, but we don’t get twice as good care.

Do you know the number, really? My company pays for most of mine, but when I added my wife, that was another 200 bucks a month because they only pay 50% of hers.

In fact, 47 million people have no insurance and do not go in for things like check ups.

With that being said, more than 40% is pure administrative overhead and does not go to doctors, to buy medicine or pay for treatment.

So … the bar is pretty low, all we need to do is get the administrative costs down to improve things, and then we will still be paying more for less.

everything is expensive..try reapplying for the insurance u ad before & keep bugging them! i cant believe my insurance was cut off! i thought u had insurance for football?

You should have begun your question “what kind of medical insurance can a resident of California get”. Where you live is more important than your age, whether or not you are employed, or anything else.

In California, the only common health marketed specifically for young adults (19-23 years old) is “Tonik”, from Anthem Blue Cross. You can also apply for any health insurance meant for California residents under 65.

The fact that you go to the doctor often at your age is unusual and suggests that you may have a medical condition or health problem that will cause the insurance company to reject you. If this occurs, then you can get insurance from the California Managed Risk Pool or the Preexisting Condition Insurance Plan, but doing so costs over $ 2000 per month.

She works full time but her employer charges an outrageous amount of money for health insurance. I know there are many many young people who don’t have health insurance, mostly because of the cost of high insurance premiums. I have news for you, if she doesn’t have insurance NOW, she’s going to be screwed.

If she has pre-existing conditions and gets private health insurance, they are not going to approve ANYTHING related to those conditions for at least a year.

Her best bet is signing up with her employer at the next open enrollment and paying the higher premiums. Then she can get a secondary insurance for a year and drop the employer’s insurance plan.

Question by julie j: Why is it that peope who engage in highrisk behaviors are allowed to be on the same health insurance plans as?
as the people who are low risk? People who smoke drive up the costs of everybody’s health care expenses! Maybe smokers should be covered on separate policies or be covered at higher rates than the rest of us who do not smoke. And how about people who damage their livers from drinking too much? Why are they allowed to be covered on our insurance plans? Maybe we shouldn’t require insurance companies or govt. to pay for “self-induced” conditions resulting from the voluntary abuse of the body such as drug use, smoking, drinking, etc. Do you want YOUR money used to pay for those sorts of expenses?
Good point happygogilmore. It’s just a fact that some risks can be controlled while others cannot. Where do we draw the line? First the pro-lifers refused to cover contraceptives & abortions because it clashed w/their beliefs. Why can’t non-smokers take a stand on covering smokers? Everyone knows cigarettes are the number one killer.
note for diegobass: abortions are 9 times safer than giving birth to a term baby so that’s obviously a moral issue and not a safety issue. All I’m saying about health insurance plans is that the high-risk people should be covered on separate plans than the lower risk people.

I don’t want you on my insurance policy if you live in an area with pollution higher than mine. What are the mercury and arsenic levels where you live? If they’re higher than where I live I don’t want you on my policy. Where do we draw the line?

A company takes out a blanket health care coverage for all employe’s wishing to participate… hoping that the more participant’s the lower the cost to the company…

As you said they pay a percentage of the premium … expecting their employe’s to pay the remainder via payroll deduction….

When you look at the companies financials.. you will find that thier gross profit is reduced by ….. the cost of good’s… operating costs…. employee benefits as well as pay roll….. equalling their net profit… now if a company has more credit’s than debits they have a HUGE problem…

Most companies will not see much if ANY profit in the first 2-5yrs…..
