This is the B-side of the very first mixes I ever did, so it dates all the way back to 1994. Recorded live using a Vestax mixer, three 1200s, and two non-pitch-shifting CD players, because those hadn't even been invented yet.

This one, well....let's just say that I recorded it at a moment when I wasn't feeling particularly optimistic about the state of the world around me. Although it took a much darker direction than the last few sessions, I'd like to think that you'll can still hear the hopefulness in it. Because as a much wiser man than me has written:

...the death of all of our Michael Browns at the hands of people who are supposed to protect them originates in a force more powerful than any president: American society itself. This is the world our collective American ancestors wanted. This is the world our collective grandparents made. And this is the country that we, the people, now preserve in our fantastic dream. What can never be said is that the Fergusons of America can be changed—but, right now, we lack the will to do it.

Perhaps one day we won't, and maybe that is reason to hope. Hope is what Barack Obama promised to bring, but he was promising something he could never bring. Hope is not the naiveté that would change the face on a racist system and then wash its hands of its heritage. Hope is not feel-goodism built on the belief in unicorns. Martin Luther King had hope, but it was rooted in years of study and struggle, not in looking the other way. Hope is not magical. Hope is earned.

I'm in the process of putting together some new mixes, but while you wait here's something old skull and by request. Dagbah was the original B-side to Tatooine, the first mix I ever recorded a long, long time ago. As with its flip, this was recorded live on 3 turntables, 2 CD players, and a mixer in my living room. It starts a bit more uptempo than Tatooine, but it then dives well beyond deep... Sound quality not ideal, but given that we didn't yet have digital audio recorders, well....

Reposting this to the new feed by request... This one is from 1994, and is the very first mix I ever recorded. 3 turntables and 2 CD players, all running live into a single mixer. Some say the Star Wars samples make the mix; others say they ruin what would otherwise be the best set they've ever heard. All I know is, I'm as proud of this as anything I've ever done. Sound quality is less than ideal, but let's blame 1994 for that. Maxell cassettes could only get you so far!

Apologies for the lack of a track list, but this one would be nearly impossible to reconstruct given that there are very few moments when a single source is playing.
