Lots of people have explored G-spot play and we’ve talked with plenty of folks who are curious about it. But we wanted to know a bit more about what people think of it, so we decided to do a little survey. We got lots of really insightful answers, as well as a few surprises.

Given how much we focus on sex education here at Good Vibrations, of course we asked people how they first discovered or heard about the G-spot. And while just over 1/3 of the 321 respondents said that they read about it in a book, just about that many discovered it during sex. When you add the 24% who found it during masturbation and the 16% who were introduced to it by a partner, it’s clear that plenty of folks are finding the G-spot on their own!

Of course, that doesn’t always mean that they know how to get the most pleasure from it, and lots of folks read books, websites, magazine articles, or watched how-to movies to learn more. We think that’s great! And when it came time to put that into practice, more people said that masturbation was how they figured it out than sex with a partner, though not by much (58% & 53%, respectively). Given that our company motto used to be “if you want something done right, do it yourself,” we’re happy to see that.

Lots of folks make G-spot play a regular part of their sexual repertoires, with over 50% doing it often or most of the time when they have sex. And 12% said they do it every time they have sex or masturbate, so it’s clear that there’s plenty of G-spot action going on. But that doesn’t mean that they’re just going for it. Almost 95% of people need at least a little warm up, with a third needing at least 15 minutes and 17% needing an orgasm first. We’ve been telling folks to get turned on before focusing on the G-spot, because it engorges so it’s easier to find and it feels better, and the numbers bear that out.

As much as the G-spot vibrators and dildos are popular, with 60% of respondents using one or both, hands and fingers are definite favorites for 80% of them. And almost 40% said that penises worked for them, though that often requires the right position.

When it came to toys, the two biggest factors were having a curve or a bulbous head, and firmness, so if you’re using something that’s too flexible, that might be why it’s not working for you. But no matter what folks used to pleasure the G-spot, don’t forget the lube! More than half of them rated it as 7 or higher on a scale of 1-10 of importance.

People were pretty varied in their preferences for finger techniques, but it’s no surprise that 80% like the “come hither” motion. (Have you ever noticed that this is the only time anyone says “hither”?) But sliding in and out, circles, windshield wipers, and pressure all have their fans, so give them a try. And don’t forget the clitoris! Using a vibrator, oral sex, using your other hand or having the receiver use a hand were all popular choices. Plus, almost 20% said they like anal penetration and 20% use a buttplug. Of course, there’s likely to be some overlap, but that means that between 1 and 2 out of 5 folks enjoy anal stimulation as part of G-spot play. If you’ve never tried it, check out our how-to pages for the info you need to do it right.

Predictably, over 80% said they prefer being on their backs during G-spot play, but plenty of folks also like being on their hands and knees, and a few said that standing or being on their side worked, so give them a try. And several people said that a pillow like the Liberator Wedge helps them relax into the position.

And by the way, don’t get too caught up in trying to ejaculate. Almost 30% said they never do and another 30% only ejaculate occasionally. So even though it happens for the other 40% often or always, there’s a lot of variation. If it happens for you, great! And it not, great! As long as you’re having fun, right?

Speaking of ejaculation, almost half of the respondents call is squirting, though gushing, female ejaculation, and ejaculation all have fans. And one person said that they call it fejaculation and a couple call it girl juice, so you can call it whatever you want.

So there you have it. There are lots of ways that people enjoy G-spot play, so even if you’ve found something that works for you, give something else a try. Who knows? You might discover a new pleasure! Looking for some tips or ideas? Take a look at The Expert Guide To The G-Spot or GUSH: The Official Guide to the G-Spot & Female Ejaculation. And if you prefer a book, Female Ejaculation and The G-Spot and The Good Vibrations Guide: The G-Spot have you covered.

Of course, we have lots of great G-spot dildos and vibrators, as well as plenty of tips to get you started on <a title="How To...

As one might imagine, we are pretty excited about the grand opening of the Good Vibrations Antique Vibrator Museum. Being the Sex Toy Geeks that many of us Good Vibrations people are, seeing a historical progression of vibrators and how they’ve evolved over the years is pretty fascinating, and something that we are excited to share with fans and friends everywhere. In a perfect world, every city would have an Antique Vibrator museum…

Unfortunately, they don’t. Most places do, however, have museums in some form or another, and often that museum is an art museum – possibly because Art is not only the product of inspiration, it is often the source of it. In the making of everything from widgets to whoopee, the influence of the artistic aesthetic is evident in every stage of production, from inception to design to execution. We’d like to think that sex toys are no exception.

And, as many people who design things for a living are partial to a particular art period– be it Romanticism, Renaissance or something from the Contemporary Era – the influence of that period is often revealed in an object’s design. We’d like to think that sex toys are no exception.

So, in celebration of Vibrators, Art, Museums, and other things that life would be less enjoyable without, here is a list of five historical art periods (pretty much in chronological order) and the vibes that best represent them:

1) Period: Pre-Historic. Vibrator: The Fling G-Spot Dildo – While not exactly a formalized period of art, pre-historic humanity demonstrated a strong desire to turn objects from the immediate environment into something to enhance the quality of life. What better embodies this idea than the Fling? (Granted it’s not a vibrator, but the dearth of batteries during this part of history necessitates a power-free stimulus option.) Made completely of wood, this surprisingly smooth and sexy part of our Ecorotic® collection is a natural beauty as well as an inspired choice for g-spot stimulation.

2) Period: Renaissance. Vibrator: The Big Boss – Characterized by contrast, the application of reason and scholarly study to art and drawing inspiration from human form, the Renaissance aesthetic is exemplified by the Big Boss Vibrator. The realistically-designed shaft is coupled with the extraordinary genius of a multi-function motor and magnetic induction charging. Not to mention that the black silicone shaft attached to the white looped handle is about as contrast-y as contrast can get!

3) Period: Romanticism. Vibrator: The HeartOn Wand – Celebrating emotion and feeling as a valid source for artistic inspiration, the Romantic Period was all about free expression. The HeartOn’s design uses the traditional symbol of love and emotion to deliver deeply resonant sensation and a curved handle to hug the body in its sensual embrace.

4) Period: Modern Art. Vibrator: The We-Vibe 3 – With an unusual design and application, the We-Vibe 3 exemplifies this highly experimental artistic period in form and function. The first vibe designed for use by couples during sex, the We-Vibe has revolutionized idea of what a sex toy can be in much the same way Picasso revolutionized the color blue.

5) The Period: Contemporary Art. The Vibe: The Cobra Libre Stimulator for Men – Blending the everyday with the extraordinary, Contemporary art’s claim to fame is blurring the line between art and culture to create something entirely new. With a design reminiscent of the race car, this stylized stimulator mixes vibration, pulsation and oscillation and applies it to one of the most sensitive areas of the male body. Sexy and sublime, The Cobra Libre is a museum-quality wonder.

Hopefully you now feel inspired to make a little sensual art of your own. For a additional inspiration, please feel free to join us at the Antique Vibrator Museum located at 1620 Polk Street in San Francisco for the grand opening celebration, April 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. If you can’t make it for the festivities, please stop by anytime and check out our collection!

One our our favorite things is getting a sneak peek at the hottest new books, toys, and movies and this is no exception. We got an advance copy of Say Please: Lesbian BDSM Erotica, the latest collection of kinky stories to come from Cleis Press. Sinclair Sexsmith edited it and took the time to share a few thoughts about the book and about lesbian kinky erotica in general.

1) Lesbian kinky erotica has grown and changed a lot since Macho Sluts (that was the first book of dyke kink smut, wasn’t it?). What are some of the shifts that you’ve seen? How did that affect this book?

If that wasn’t the first book, it was certainly one of the first. I’ve loved that for years, my copy is all dog-eared and broken-spined. The biggest shifts I’ve seen in queer smut writing is that there is just copious amounts more of it—more blogs, more anthologies, more tumblrs, more people putting their desires down into writing and out there into the world.

I think that’s meant that we have a more diverse representation of what’s sexy, of bodies and body types, of orientations, and of kinky, perverted, awesome sex acts than ever before. I’d love to see queer smut take on a serious (r)evolution in the same way that queer porn has, meaning that I think queer porn is pretty much the best porn in the porn industry these days, and we’re doing the most radical, ethically responsible, fascinating, gender-forward, kink-forward things, with directors like Courtney Trouble and Shine Louise Houston especially.

I love that we’ve got more queer smut on the market, but it’s also time to start making better queer smut, more specialized anthologies, and more quality writing. The book industry is doing some tricky evolving of their own, these days, but the one thing that will certainly remain true is that if you like what’s going on—queer porn or smut or bloggers or whomever—make sure you support it financially, as much as you can, by buying the book or the DVD or the membership or whatever, and that’ll really help us all to keep bringing you more and better fantasies, smut, porn, and general jack off material.

2) In your introduction, you write “the more I look closely at BDSM, the harder it is for me to bring my flogger down on it and define precisely what I think it means.” Can you tell us a bit more about that?

I thought I knew what BDSM was when I started this anthology, but as I read more and more submissions I realized that what I’d been thinking of as “BDSM” was really quite limited. I tend to use “kink” as more of a general umbrella term for BDSM, fetishes, role play, age play, toys, tools, and all sorts of sexual exploration, so I was thinking of BDSM as a small subset of that, rather than as an equivalent umbrella term. But as I started finding more stories that explored other fetishes or kinks in ways that I really loved—that were smart and sexy and really hot and well-written and perhaps a little unusual but still very relatable—I knew I wanted to include those, too. I think the closer I got to it, the harder it was to pinpoint exactly what BDSM is, and my understanding of it broadened after going through these stories.

3) Say Please offers an incredible range of fantasies and desires. Given how diverse people’s sexual turn-ons are, what were some of the highlights in the selection process? What were some of the challenges?

My own taste is definitely my biggest influence, so there are a lot of saucy butch/femme pieces, some daddy/girl play, lots of strap-ons, quite a bit of sensation play. But at the same time, I tried to choose a wide range of other explorations, like piss play and knives and threesomes. Some of the actual actions in the book I wouldn’t necessarily list as personal favorite fetishes or kinks, but they are so damn well written and queer and smart and sexy that I felt turned on and excited by the stories.

I think the best BDSM erotica can do that for a reader—turn us on to something we perhaps wouldn’t usually consider, and perhaps will never consider again, but for now, for the moment, the author takes us through such a rich and vivid description of not just what the characters are exploring but also why. And we, the readers, get it—if only for now. I love that suspension of our own orientations or desires, and I think it can help us grow as sexual beings.

It was a challenge to get a diverse range of stories, especially in terms of ethnicity, but the gender orientations were also challenging. It’s not a butch/femme book, even though that’s my particular favorite combination, so I did my best to include both highly gendered but not butch/femme stories and also lesbian stories that don’t necessarily have a gender component.

Putting together an erotica anthology is quite a challenge, especially because everyone’s taste is a little different. Cleis’s favorite story and my favorite story were different, and I bet your favorite story will be different than those two, too. Because of our different tastes, it’s hard to really review or recommend erotica—but hopefully the wide range and the good writing in this collection will mean that all the readers will find a few stories they love, at least.

4) Not only did you choose stories to cover lots of different kinks, you also have established writers, relative newcomers, and first-timers. Did you have a specific intention to do that when you started, or did it just work out that way? How did that influence the book?

I aimed to have a combination of seasoned erotica writers and newer voices in the book, yes. It’s a formula that the Best Lesbian Erotica series has frequently used over the years, which has been a huge influence on me and my work and how I am now editing anthologies. I love the combination of authors that I know and whose work I love in addition to the folks who are starting out.

Plus, I teach writing workshops, often sex writing, and many of the folks who come, write something, or share some of their work are incredibly talented, and I try to encourage them to submit to anthologies. I think the queer sex writing landscape is still missing dozens—hundreds!—of perspectives, and the more we can write about our own stories and our own desires, the more examples will be out there in the world. That’s a big part of why I started writing smut, really, was because I didn’t see what I loved reflected, so I started telling stories to my lovers, writing my own.

I think the largest influence of newer writers is that often, they are not stuck in a rut of their own ‘erotica voice,’ so they are more experimental and more raw. I love that in a good smut piece.

If you’ve ever been to our stores, you’ve probably seen a few examples of our antique vibrator collection. Sometimes, we’ve found them at garage sales. And quite often, customers would send them to us, usually after they were cleaning out their parents’ our grandparents’ attics. I once had someone come in with one he found at a yard sale and once he rewired it, it still worked!

Our customers and fans have always enjoyed seeing the old-style vibes, some of which look remarkably similar to some that you can find on our shelves today, like the Wahl Coil. But there simply wasn’t room to showcase them as well as they deserved, so we’ve built a permanent display at our Polk St. store!

Dr. Carol Queen explains, “We are delighted to showcase our collection in a dynamic, historic, and entertaining display at our Polk Street retail location. The new exhibit contextualizes the vibrators’ role in society and highlights how our attitudes around sex and female pleasure have evolved. It really gives us an appreciation for how far both society and technology have come, and it’s fitting to house the exhibit in the original female-friendly adult retail store.”

We’re having a Grand Opening event on April 12 from 6-8 pm and we’d love to see you there. Come take a look at a little known side of sexuality! If you can’t make it (or even if you can), you can read all about the collection and their medical history at the Antique Vibrator Museum website.

And as if that’s not enough, we’re also co-presenting the San Francisco premiere of “Hysteria”, a major Hollywood film starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rupert Everett in a Victorian-era romantic comedy set around the creation of the vibrator. The screening is part of the SF International Film Festival on May 1 at Sundance Theatres Kabuki in San Francisco. It’s going to be an amazing night. Check out the trailer and get yourself a ticket!

This last weekend, I had the pleasure of attending and presenting at MOMENTUM: Making Waves in Sexuality, Feminism, and Relationships. It was easily the best sexuality conference I’ve ever been to and I’m still smiling from it.

There were a lot of reasons I enjoyed it so much, but I think the biggest one is the amazing range of people who came, both as attendees and presenters. There were writers, educators, activists, sex workers, students, professors, researchers, sexologists, therapists, interested civilians, bloggers, sex toy makers, sex toy retailers, bodyworkers, and more. There were people who have been in the field for years, and people for whom this was their first sexuality event. And everywhere I turned, people were discovering new connections and ideas.

It was hard to pin down what we all had in common, besides an interest in sexuality, but every single time I chatting with someone, I found myself wishing we had a couple of hours to sit and talk. I think that the common thread is that it was a collection of people who enjoy thinking deeply about sexuality and applying that to their personal lives and work. It was a real joy to hear all of the different stories, and to geek out with folks who engage in this side of things.

The weekend started out with Maria Falzone and her hilarious performance. Seriously- if you think sex ed can’t be funny, you need to see her. Next up was the opening keynote panel, with Logan Levkoff, Audacia Ray, Bill Taverner, and me, hosted by the effervescent Carol Queen. Getting to hear some of my favorite peers in the field and responding to the questions from the crowd was a super fun way to get things going.

On Saturday, my biggest problem was trying to figure out which presentations to get to. Seriously- I wished I’d been able to clone myself, though I had to settle for following the #mcon hashtag. (You can find all the presentation descriptions on the conference website, too.) Diana Adams had some incredible things to say about sexuality and the law, as well as what strategies she uses to support her clients and push for sex-positive decisions in legal cases. We need more lawyers like her in the world! Audaica Ray had some thought-provoking and challenging things to say about the negative impact of the sex-positive movement on sex workers’ rights (you can read her essay in the conference anthology). Megan Andelloux’s talk on pornography was fantastic- she’s an amazing teacher and offered some really useful tools for sex educators who want to discuss porn with clarity.

That evening, Carol & I hosted a meet-and-greet and it was one of the most fun parties I’ve even been to. Everywhere I turned, people were talking, laughing, sharing stories, trading ideas, flirting, and having a great time. I got to meet some folks I’d only known online, which was really wonderful. I also heard great things about Ducky Doolittle’s Dirty Bingo, and the CineKink screening, though I didn’t make it to them.

Sunday morning, I sat in on Megan Morgenson & Serpent Libertine’s excellent talk on how the anti-sex work End Demand movement fits within historic trends and dismisses the experiences of sex workers. And then it was time for my talk, Queer is a Verb, in which I discussed what it means to engage in queering categories, edges, and identities in order to create new perspectives and terrains to explore. (You can read my essay on the topic in the anthology, too.) In a weekend packed full of wonderful experiences, this was my highlight. The conversation with the folks who joined me was inspiring, and as an educator, it was a joy to see such deep engagement with a topic so near and dear to me.

I wish I’d had the bandwidth to sit in on more of the presentations. And even more so, I wish I’d been able to go to the closing plenary, with Dr. Joycelyn Elders, Esther Perel, and Lara Riscol. But I had had the flu the week before and was beyond wiped out, though I did manage to follow the conference hashtag and read some of the highlights.

The reason they called it “Momentum” is that they wanted to inspire people to discover new ideas and them keep the momentum going after the conference. And I can tell you that I definitely will. I have at least 5 or 6 blog posts in my to-write list as a result of the various conversations I had, as well as a couple of possible new workshops. I’m willing to bet that lots of other folks are feeling the same.

I can’t say enough good stuff about this exceptional event. If you missed it, I really recommend getting to it next year. And one of the organizers is putting a similar event together on September 14-16 in California, called Catalyst: Sparking Communication and Change. I will definitely be there and I hope you will, too!

A jaunt across our modern cultural landscape in just about any direction leads you to a realization pervasive enough to qualify as an undeniable truth: Sex is serious business.

That is why a recent story appearing on the San Francisco Sentinel website about a local entrepreneur’s somewhat lighthearted approach sexual titillation is worthy of note: Vibrator Racing Tracks.

Developed as a bar-slash-party game, a single four-foot vibrator racing track allows up to six people (or more if multiple tracks are in use) to set a vibrator buzzing towards the finish line, which sounds exactly as silly and fun as is probably intended. (Not to mention it giving a whole new meaning to the phrase lube stop.)

The downside is that the vibrators appear to be identical, meaning that the outcome would largely be determined by battery strength, cleanliness of the track or vibe surface, how level it is, etc., leaving lady luck the real winner no matter which vibe crosses the finish line.

However, in anticipation of Vibrator Racing taking on a life of its own, (and yes, thoughts of Vibrator Racing Leagues leap irresistibly to mind) here are a few suggestions on vibes available at Good Vibrations that could hold their own against stiff racing competition: (Of course, if you are looking for something to rev up your own engines, these work handily for that purpose, too!)

The Pleasurette: Sleek, smooth and compact, this mini vibe has a powerful motor and velvety exterior that would make a sporty sprinter down the track. Waterproof and designed for portability, this vibe would travel well around the racing circuit.

We-Vibe Salsa: With eight gears (vibration settings), this high-performance rechargeable vibe not only offers stimulation with pinpoint accuracy, but the aerodynamic design would give it the edge through the straightaways. Add magnetic charging into the mix and you have an Ecorotic® speed demon tearing up the track.

Deco Mini Waterproof Vibe: Sized halfway between a bullet and a wand style vibrator, the Deco Mini is something of a hybrid entry in the field. While the 2 AAA motor might not be a powerhouse when compared to some of the other contenders, it makes up for it with precision enveloped in sleek and decorative styling.

Seduction Vibe: Sensationally smooth, the Seduction features a single push-button control for seamless shifting between its three speeds. The bulbous end results in a top-heavy design, meaning that Seduction is master of the downhill stretch.

Turbo Glider: For solid, reliable performance, this vibe is a winner, hands-down. The smooth transition between speeds and hard plastic construction makes the Turbo Glider a forced to be reckoned with on the track. The textured nubs and waterproof design would also make it a great choice if going off road is more your style. Oh, and it’s a turbo…

Even if the world of Professional Vibrator Racing currently exists only in the imagination, and corporate sponsorships are still a long way off, these vibes are a positively amazing way to get your sensual motor humming, with no pit crew required.

Hello! I work for a company that makes dildos, and had a customer call today; when I talked with her, she mentioned that her gynecologist had recommended using a dildo to widen her vaginal walls because the vaginal walls get tighter with aging. (She sounded like she was over sixty.)

I have never heard of this. Have you?
–Customer Service

When a post-menopausal woman is not taking hormone replacement and isn’t very sexually active, her vaginal walls get thinner and the mucosa more dry, and the effect of this can seem as though the vagina has shrunk. In some women, particularly after periods of celibacy, the vagina does undergo some shrinkage, or stenosis — though my guess is that for many, the symptom of dryness plus less supple vaginal walls will make it seem though the vagina has gotten smaller, when in reality is just isn’t expanding with arousal the way a pre-menopause vagina can do. In addition there is introital stenosis, which means that the opening to the vagina has shrunk (which can make it seems as though the whole thing has gotten smaller); that also affects some women.

This page gives a pretty good descriptions of all this. Please note that some sites recommend Replens, an over-the-counter product meant to address vaginal dryness — but it has mineral oil in it, so it is NOT safe with latex condoms (and in fact oil drys out tissues itself); I don’t recommend it. If a woman is interested in hormone replacement, I would suggest use of estrogen cream, rather than taking pills by mouth — though of course I’m not the kind of doctor who prescribes HRT at all.

Note that smoking makes this worse, so if you speak to your customer again, you might ask her whether she is a smoker. It’s my belief also that a healthy amount of exercise, especially pelvic motion, is good for these conditions.

I wouldn’t recommend just stretching the vagina with a larger dildo *unless* the woman is taking HRT (hormone replacement therapy), and she should certainly use a good lubricant if she does (and during any other insertive sex including intercourse). While stretching the vagina is possible, it must be done extremely carefully unless she is protecting her vaginal walls’ sensitivity and flexibility with HRT. The women at A Woman’s Touch in Madison, WI have actually designed vibrating dilators in three sizes; they maintain that the vibration helps reverse some of these menopausal side effects. If she DOES use a dildo, she should take it easy and use it frequently, and go for as much arousal as she can, as that will help matters. Not just using it “medicinally” without having any fun.

If she has not been masturbating or doing other arousing, orgasm-producing activity, anything like this she does (which respects the limits of her body as it is now) is likely to be of some help — though aside from HRT I do not believe there are any quick fixes. I keep mentioning HRT but I am not recommending it, by the way. Here’s why HRT might not be advised.

The woman should discuss this with her doc and do her own research and decision-making, I would say. Thanks for going the extra customer-service mile to support her well-being!

We’re just two weeks away from Momentum, which promises to be an amazing event. The organizers have gathered some really amazing speakers, including Dr. Joycelyn Elders (who I was fortunate enough to hear speak at the 2011 conference for the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex). I’m also looking forward to seeing Lynn Comella, Jaclyn Friedman, Dr. Ruthie Neustifter, Nancy Schwartzman, Chloe Angyal, Bill Taverner, and lots of other wonderful folks. You can check out the full schedule here.

Of course, the highlight of the weekend for me is that I’ll be on the keynote panel, as well as presenting, as will my wonderful colleague Dr. Carol Queen. Here’s what we’re up to:

Opening Keynote Plenary: Momentum: Making Waves in Sexuality Feminism and Relationships
A year after MOMENTUM 2011 and sexuality in America is still filled with the same mixed messages, baffling dichotomies, and misinformation. Our keynote panelists, from Logan Levkoff and Bill Taverner, who try to change these attitudes within a more mainstream framework to Audacia Ray and Charlie Glickman, who do the same with some of the more controversial aspects of sexuality, all have made significant impact in their own spheres. These esteemed panelists, moderated by the legendary Carol Queen, will discuss the role of sexuality in today’s culture, how they make waves that help change perceptions about sex, feminism and relationships and what attendees can do to carry forward the momentum by generating their own conversations about sexuality.

Queer is a Verb
What does it mean to queer something? In a world that’s full of sweeping statements and gender essentialism, what happens when we think of queering as an act that we can engage in, rather than an adjective or an identity? How does it shift our thinking about the Myth of the Normal, gender essentialism, and inflexible categories?

When we make queer a verb, it becomes a powerful tool for exploring, transcending, and transforming boundaries and definitions. It allows us to play with the rigid limits that are often imposed on sex and gender. And it can inspire us to create new ways to build the world around us. Charlie Glickman will discuss some of the ways that thinking of queer as something we do rather than something we are can offer new perspectives, and explore some tools for engaging in the practice of queering sex, gender, and sexual orientation.

The Dirty Business of Sex Toys
Metis Black, Greg DeLong, Rachel Venning, Dr. Carol Queen. Moderated by Lynn Comella
Sex toys, or “novelties,” are a billion dollar business. It’s an industry that thrives on creative (and not so creative) minds and ethical (and not so ethical) business practices. Get an insider’s look at a few company’s core values, and talk about material safety, creative rip offs, labor relations, financing and politics. Hear some stories on the challenges that have arisen and how very important you, the sex educators, bloggers and the consumers, are in moving and shaping up the industries ethics.

Feminist Porn as Cultural Critique
Lynn Comella, Ph.D., Carol Queen, Ph.D., Sinnamon Love, Tina Horn
It’s not uncommon for sex positive feminists, including those who make, watch, study and write about pornography, to be accused of lacking a meaningful critique of the mainstream adult industry. This session discusses how we can reframe the very idea of what counts as “feminist critique” and “sex positive” by focusing on the ways in which cultural producers use media texts, sexual images and ethical production practices as modes of political intervention that challenge ideas about “business as usual” within the adult industry.

The Publishing Revolution: How Writers, Editors and Publishers are Making New Media Work
Allison Moon, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Kitty Stryker, Kimmie David, Carol Queen
Print on Demand. EReaders. Espresso Book Printers. Crowdfunded novels. The publishing world is in the midst of a revolution. This panel will join experts in the field to discuss how they are adapting to the changing publishing climate, and how aspiring authors and booksellers can harness technology to find an audience and find success.

Carol & I will also host a meet & greet on Saturday evening, after the presentations are done for the day (but before the evening’s entertainment gets going).

Of course, if you can’t make it to the event, that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. You can follow Momentum on twitter and the hashtag #mcon will be a great way to read the highlights.

Hope to see you there!
