Lou Lou's Corner sent us a sample of the Bilibo Shell to try. My favorite two testors, my two boys, were very excited to try this unique shaped toy with unlimited possibilities.

The Bilibo Shell is a Swiss-designed toy that brings out the creativity in your child. The Bilibo is made from durable, high-density polyethylene. This hard plastic toy held up to my two rough and tumble boys. CPSC Urges Stop Use of “My Baby Soother” Pacifiers

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging parents and caregivers to immediately stop giving the “My Baby Soother” pacifiers to their children. The pacifiers failed to meet federal safety standards because the nipples can separate from the base easily, posing a choking hazard to infants and toddlers.

Plum Organics Recalls Apple & Carrot Portable Pouches

Plum Organics voluntarily recalled a small portion of their Apple & Carrot Portable Pouches after a routine test determined the formulation was incorrect. Plum Organics immediately investigated the matter and confirmed that a mixing error was to blame which resulted in an improper blend of carrots and apples.

These pouches were sold individually at Toys-R-Us and Babies-R-Us locations nationally.

The pouches recalled have the best by date of May 21, 2010 and marked with the following number “890180001221” located at the bottom of the package. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this product and no other Plum Organics products are affected.

The recall was undertaken as a precaution due to the risk of potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism, a serious and sometimes lifethreatening condition. Consumers should not use these products, even if they appear to be normal, because of the possible health risk. Symptoms of botulism poisoning in humans include general weakness, dizziness, double-vision and trouble with speaking or swallowing. People experiencing these problems should seek immediate medical attention.

FDA Warns Users of Evenflo Breast Pumps; Evenflo Responds

In a warning letter dated August 25, 2009, the FDA stated they found violations at two plants that make Evenflo breast pumps. The breast pumps referenced are sold under the "Comfort Select" brand name.

During the inspections, the FDA found Evenflo was not in compliance with two of the FDA's manufacturing practice rules. These included "failure to review and evaluate all complaints" and failure "to establish medical device reporting procedures for your breast pumps."

The agency stated that it reviewed 37 complaints. 18 of them were no investigated. At least three of these complaints related to women receiving an electrical shock when using the breast pumps.

Response from an Evenflo representative- 9/17/09

Since the inspection, Evenflo has provided the FDA with several updates on how the company is enhancing its internal written procedures and the FDA has been satisfied with Evenflo’s responses to most of the observations. At the end of August, the FDA informed Evenflo that several matters remained open but Evenflo expects to respond to those within the next week, and are confident that they will be able to resolve these matters by working with the FDA.

In regard to complaints concerning electrical shock, EvenFlo has investigated to the extent that information or the product was available to the company, and have provided information to the FDA regarding their investigation. The FDA has determined their response to be adequate.

We received a free sample of several of Nature Valley's newest product, Granola Nut Clusters. Good thing they sent several bags because I had to beat off my husband to just get one of the bags to test because he opened one before I had a chance and was scarfing them down at record speed.

These really are yummy and are a good high energy snack. They are low in sugar and high in fiber. Just a few really fill you up quickly (of course unless you are my husband).

They come in four nut varieties: Roasted Cashew (my favorite and the only one I was able to wrestle more than one piece of away), Nut Lovers, Roast Almond, and Honey Roasted Peanut (hubby's fav).

ShopRite Partners in Caring Helps Feed the Hungry

For more than 30 year ShopRite has been helping feed the hungry in the neighborhoods their stores service.

ShopRite began helping to fight the problem of hunger through its support of the Feeding America network (formerly America’s Second Harvest) and through participation in the Checkout Hunger program. Yet, it wanted to do more, so in 1999, ShopRite conceived and began its ShopRite Partners In Caring program.

The ShopRite Partners In Caring program is a year-round, community based hunger fighting initiative. Working with more than 50 manufacturers, the program is committed to helping to feed and meet the nutritional needs of families and the elderly who may otherwise not have food. The ShopRite Partners In Caring program supports 23 regional food banks and more than 1,400 charitable agencies with food or meal components. With a $2 million annual donation, more than $20 million has been donated since 1999 in the fight against hunger.

Companies that have joined ShopRite in the fight against hunger are marked in stores with the ShopRite Partners In Caring shelf label. By choosing these products, ShopRite customers support manufacturers who contribute to the program. Each of the 217 ShopRite stores in the six states that ShopRite serves selects qualified local organizations to benefit from the program. These local food charities use their designated funds to acquire supplies at a food bank.

Facts About Hunger in America

More than 36 million Americans (11 percent of U.S. households) suffer from food insecurity
More than 12 million children are growing up hungry
There are many complications of hunger, especially for children, including
- Weakened immune systems
- Cognitive and behavioral development problems; can cause irritability, fatigue and difficulty concentrating in younger children. Also proven to cause depression in some teenagers
- Slow or unusual development in areas such as speaking, behavior and movement
A $1 donation can purchase 10 pounds of food from a food bank
