Le 5 novembre dernier avait lieu à Alicante (Espagne) le départ de la célèbre course à la voile autour du monde par équipage, la Volvo Race. Une course de39 000 milles sur 8 mois en 9 étapes, avec 6 bateaux en compétition. Parmi ceux-ci le bateau français Groupama (skipper Franck Cammas) et aussi le monocoque américain Puma Ocean Racing (skipper Ken Read), avec Laird Hamilton comme membre honoraire de l’équipe. Non, Laird ne fait pas le tour du monde à bord, mais c’est son projet de paddleboard de 14′ spécial haute mer, au design semblable à celui du bateau, qui met le big-wave-rider dans l’actualité de la Volvo-Race.
Début 2011, Laird Hamilton rencontre l’équipe Puma Ocean Racing par l’intermédiaire du président de Surftech, marque commercialisant des modèles de paddleboard de Laird. Le courant passe et Hamilton, tout en restant chez Oxbow,intègre l’équipe Puma Ocean Race avec un projet de paddleboard de haute mer. Laird travaille alors avec Juan Kouyoumdjan (Juan Yatch Design) architecte du bateau Puma pour la Volvo Race et concrétise un paddleboard de 14′ suivant le même design et dans les mêmes matériaux que ceux du bateau. Un paddleboard qui sera commercialisé en série limitée par Surftech dès 2012, au prix XXL de 6500 €.
Derrière l’opération marketing Puma Ocean Race/Hamilton, nul doute que Laird a son idée en tête, veillant toujours à garder une longueur d’avance sur tout le monde tant dans ses inventions que dans sa conquête des grosses vagues. Après le tow-in, le foil, le paddleboard, il décide à nouveau de prendre les devants de nouvelles aventures, avec cette fois un engin propice au plein océan. Hamilton ne va pas abandonner Jaws pour se transformer en un D’Abboville traversant le Pacifique à la rame, mais selon le communiqué Puma, il est censé être sur le qui-vive d’une énorme houle repérée par l’équipage pendant la course et concourir à sa façon en rejoignant les crêtes fumantes avec son paddleboard (sic).
Laird Hamilton était donc à bord du bateau Puma au départ de la course dans la baie d’Alicante puis plongea par dessus bord une fois la Volvo-Race lancée.
Affaire à suivre donc.

Full-time graffiti artist since 2003, A1one a.k.a Tanha has become internationally renowned. He has also played a key role in establishing the graffiti street art scene in his own country and the Middle East. Gaining recognition through his colorful vibrant characters, inspired by daily urban life, combined with ancient Persian motifs and pop icons as well as other native artworks from Australian Aboriginal Art to Mayan narrative hieroglyphics.

A1one's art is complex and deeply rooted in Street Culture incorporating the fine arts into street scene. In 2003 he established a base for Persian-Arabic Graffiti letters and inspired a generation with his various spray painted artworks: stencils, multi layered stencils, letter style graffiti and street arts.

His exhibitions feature a variety of acrylic, digital, marker and spray painted artwork in an effort to reveal street culture, through visual art.

cabaio (Buenos Aires)

Cabaio stepped out onto the urban art scene in Argentina in 2002. His crew, Vomito Attack, set out to spread ideas that were not already written on the walls in Buenos Aires. Some carried a political message against the backdrop of Argentina's economic crisis as well as the senseless wars that were happening across the globe.

Buenos Aires walls are rapidly becoming a canvas for political and personal expression delivering thought prevoking messages through art. This art is Graffiti Mundo: Street art for the people in Buenos Aires coupled with the political fragility of Argentina makes it truly unique in the worldwide art scene.

Today, the street remains his canvas to express his feelings and opinions. JR: The Wrinkles of the City

Initié à Carthagène, The Wrinkles of the City est un parcours dans la ville tracé par JR avec des images immenses autant qu’intenses qui marquent à jamais le paysage urbain. JR nous emmène découvrir la face cachée de la Chine. Il colle ses portraits de personnes âgées dans les quartiers les plus pauvres nichés au cœur même de Shanghai, des lieux interdits, à quelques mètres à peine duBund, l’artère fréquentée par des milliers de touristes. Le livre nous permet de comprendre la complexité du travail de JR qui prend des formes multiples, passant par les témoignages, les portraits, les affiches, les collages jusqu’aux prises de vues finales. Des images dont la qualité photographique nous dit toute l’intensité du projet.
The Wrinkles of the City est son dernier projet en date, réalisé à Shanghai en collaboration avec la galerie Magda Danysz. L’ouvrage édité aux éditions Drago retrace l’intensité de cette expérience chinoise. Des témoignages aux affiches collées sur les murs de la ville, on y découvre un projet événement, réalisé entre soutien officiel de la Biennale de Shanghai et illégalité des collages dans des lieux délabrés.

GOD WENT SURFING WITH THE DEVIL

Since the year 2000, over 4,300 Palestinian and 1,000 Israeli lives have been claimed by the escalating conflict in the region. The situation grew markedly worse in 2006, when Israel responded to the election of Hamas by sealing off the borders, ending the free-flow of people and goods. Palestinian militants reacted to the siege by targeting Israel's civilian population with deadly rocket strikes; the Israeli Army countered with air strikes, targeting militants but often claiming the lives of innocent residents.

In 2007 it emerged that a small group of young men were surfing in Gaza, sharing battered surfboards they had attained prior to the siege. Word traveled north to Israel, and that same year, a mixed group of Israelis and Americans delivered a dozen boards to their Palestinian counterparts.

In the spring of 2008, they would attempt to deliver another 23 surfboards into Gaza. By this time the situation in Gaza had deteriorated further, the border still sealed, with military activity a near daily occurrence.

"God Went Surfing With the Devil" charts the difficulties and dangers encountered by surfers in the region. Along the way it speaks to Israelis, Arab-Israelis, and Palestinians affected by the violence, charting their daily struggle to supersede the conflict through the joys of surfing.

Judith Supine : an incredible street artist

Judith Supine is a street artist that lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She could not speak until the age of 17, so she used drawings as a way of communicating. Judith uses recycled materials, knifes, glues, high quality fashion magazines with uncomfortable contents. She is all a rebel.
she is in street art and there are a lot of people historically who I’ve really liked. But in terms of new people, I particularly love the work of Brooklyn artist Judith Supine. It’s a surreal combination of old engraving art mixed with hand-drawn and painted images. He does paste up posters, but they’re not just square, they’re cut-out shapes of these interesting looking characters. The closest thing I could compare it to are the Monty Python animations

When you look up close her creations look like a pile of pins, but from a distance installations transform into amazing images of birds and cherry blossom trees. By the way Hwang graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York and has exhibited his work in New York, Paris and Seoul.
