I dream of sewing..

I know. I get back on the blog wagon and guess what? I roll right back off. Sittin' in a cloud of dust as the wagon train leaves me behind. We are in week #2 of trying to sell our house. Things are going pretty well. I still have a few hairs that aren't grey from the constant cleaning, nagging, scenting, wiping and hiding that comes with having to leave at a moment's notice and praying that whoever it is, please, please don't look in my closet. Something will fall on you. A lug-soled boot, most likely.

Tonight I pulled out my scrap basket to iron some pieces for patchwork and not five minutes later there was a call from a perky agent wanting to be here first thing in the morning. I jinxed it. I've unpacked my new sewing machine and anxiously await the time I can fire this puppy up. It's waiting.

Yup. Still here.

I knew it would happen.

I've been away from blogging so long that Typepad up and changed everything. This is what transpires while I'm away thrifting, logging mommy time and baking cupcakes. (And eating cupcakes.) Okay, so I just give it a push, swing my leg over and start pedaling, right? Here goes.

A repeated thank-you to those who are coming by via other websites and magazines. I promise I'm not usually this lame.

A sneak peek at some dishes I bought the other day at Goodwill. After 12 years of marriage, I finally gave myself permission to replace the clunky ones I registered for. No offense, Pfaltzgraff "Ocean Breeze". It's not you. It's me. I've changed. And you wouldn't break. I tried...many times.

They seem happy and sunny, no?

Happy Fall! Let the candy corn gorging begin.

A big thank you to all of you who have come to visit my little blog via Family Fun and left the sweetest comments. It's been wonderful to meet you all! I have some fun projects in mind for Fall and Holidays to keep you coming back (hopefully!).

My craft table has sat idle for a few weeks..savoring those last moments of summer with my two girls. We started school this week and I am so excited for both of them. My littlest said "No pictures Momma" and marched right into Kindergarten without looking back. It's these big mom moments that make my heart ache for my own mother. So much that I almost picked up the phone to tell her all about their first day.

My friend Samantha owns a denim shop here in Davis and invited me to come in and do custom jean embroidery tomorrow. It's part of a big event called spend $30 on 8/30 in Downtown Davis to help support shopping locally. These are some of the samples I've worked up for people to choose from. Or I can whip something up for you. It should be really fun--so if you are in the area and have some favorite jeans you'd like to give a little oomph to, stop by Renew Denim and say hi! There will also be a live fashin show on CBS' Good Day Sacramento during the 8am segment. Yours truly will be modeling some jeans from her store that I've embellished. If I can sqeeeeze myself into them. There will be a lot of grunting, wiggling and cursing tomorrow morning.

I got a copy of the September issue of Family Fun magazine at Borders...and there's my project! And a web shout-out! I know! Too many exclamation points!

A big thank you to the magazine and Deborah for including me in it. It gave me a much-needed boost today.

We spent the past week in secluded bliss in the Sierras. This is the view from where I sat on the beach at the lake most days. No phone, no computer. Just books, puzzles, beads, swimming and floating. Lots of floating. It was wonderful.

I was so happy to come home to my own copy of Megan Smith's Sewing 2010 Calendar in the mailbox! You can find my projects in February (Matyroska tooth pillow), March (bow-tie hair clips & robot pocket pillow), May (easy business card case), November (fat quarter purses), and December (patchwork eye pillow). You can find these projects on my sidebar, too, but this calendar is chock full of wonderful ideas from all over the web. Megan did such a great job compiling them. I'm already starting a mental list for gift giving this year. The most exciting part is that a pic of my bow tie clips made it on the cover of the box! Woo-hoo! (Bottom right..I know, you might have to squint a little...)

I'm referring to my website..not my general state of being. Thanks again to the wonderful Amy who crafted it so quickly and cutely. It feels so professional--unlike real life these days. We all should have a little corner of the web without dust bunnies, laundry and gooky little fingerprints all over the walls. Is that marinara on the doorframe? Blood? Jam? Life's little mysteries.

I haven't done much sewing since Renegade earlier this month, but his morning I finished a special little blanket for a special little boy. He finally got to go home after spending his first 6 weeks in the NICU. Welcome home, wee Owen!

I've been away from the blog for a while. I wish it was for super-exciting things..but it's mostly that the laziness of summer has taken hold in our house. The garden is finally ripening all at once, resulting in a diet that is 90% nectarines. We are fiber friendly. And nothing is funnier to a 5 and 7 year-old than fiber-friendly jokes and noises.

My friend Amy is working hard on a new website for me. We hope to have it up and rolling in the next few weeks. I love what she is coming up with! I have a new little shop on etsy for my paintings and prints called two shoes studio and plan on putting new creations in it several times a week. I have a little companion blog to let people know when I've updated the shop. 'Cause I collect blogs like some people collect stray animals. Sho nuff.

Just thought I would check in. What are you up to?

Summer is here and my blogging has been temporarily replaced with swimming, drippy popsicles, loungy days and giggling girls. And, oh yeah, napping. Lots of napping around here. Hot days are made for it. I'm hoping to have a new tutorial for something fun soon. But the hammock keeps calling me...

I have a few new things in the shop. I'm saving a lot of my creations for Renegade, which will be here before I know it. So many big crafty types are on the vendor list..I'm a little intimidated.
