Looking for an excellent linking tool? By my encounter, SEO Strategy is by far one of the best tips on how to develop hyperlinks to your website. There are not many resources to develop more hyperlinks for your serps than this device does.

In the last, I have had much problems trying to personally develop all of the each personal hyperlinks to each of the websites on my internet websites. This had time, but with SEO Strategy, this has changes everything for me.

Within this unique device, there are three personal elements. The three elements are Content Strategy, Running a site Strategy, and Website Strategy. Here is what each one of them do:

Content Strategy(Article Blueprint) – This was created to perform as if you were post marketing to many internet directories. However, when you deliver content to this position, all editions will be instantly sent out into all 480 internet directories. When you first feedback your post into the submission, you can deliver just that one, or you can also use two other editions along with it so that, when presented, your content gets sent out along with several editions. This is a very extremely effective way to develop many hyperlinks with the Content Strategy. Plus, there is no restrict on how many content you can submit!

Running a site Strategy(Blogging Blueprint) – I am definitely surprised with this element of SEO Strategy. What you do with the blogging and site-building area is that you make a writing about your key phrase and position your link only once within each publish. That is all you have to do.. There is nothing to it. To be sincere, with a few of my internet websites, this is the only strategy I really used to acquire top 3 ratings in Google!

Website Strategy(Link Blueprint) – The Website Strategy assistance has been designed on the foundation trading hyperlinks from one associate of SEO Strategy to another. How does it work? Well, When you want to get a backlink to your website, you need to ask for one. Searching for the connection will price you link breaks that you can acquire. To be able to get link breaks, you must first publish other members’ hyperlinks that they ask for onto a website of your own that has the pr they need. You get a certain quantity of breaks for each link you publish on your own websites. Now, you are able to use those link breaks to ask for someone to publish the connection you need out on the web. It’s really easy really..

All in all, the SEO Strategy linking device is, I believe, a certain must have for any and all internet websites. If you are wanting to develop a constant earnings on the internet, and are wanting to do all your linking personally, I suggest you have a look at out SEO Strategy. I really do use it for all my websites.

Bing Webmaster Tools Gets Markup Validator

Ask Website owner Resources has a new instrument known as the Markup Approval Tool, which can be discovered under the “crawl” tab

“This instrument is an excellent way to comprehend if the included value is actually going to be understandable, as designed,” says Bing’s Duane Forrester. “While the markup value being wrong will not cause your web page to provide any diversely in most situations, having the format wrong can impact our capability to use the information as you plan. Now you can quickly examine URLs for legitimate markup value from within your webmaster tools consideration.”

The instrument scans: HTML Microdata, Microformats, RDFa, Schema.org, and Start Information markups, and shows them when effectively integrated. When the person goes into a URL, it will check out it and present the information it discovers.

If a web page is read, and does not have any markup set up, or if it’s not set up right, the person will get one concept.

“If you are suffering from mistakes when using the instrument to examine your markup set up, please referrals the hyperlinks offered above to make sure you are using the value as designed within the guidelines specified for each terminology,” says Forrester.

In other Ask information, it appears to be like they are organizing to do something more useful with all of that Myspace and Tweets information they have accessibility.

Ask Suggestions At Better Using Fb, Twitter posts articles content In Near Future

It’s well known within the On the internet industry that Ask has exclusive convenience Fb and Twitter posts that The look for applications does not. They pay for such convenience. The look for applications considers it can do better by putting Google+ content all over its results with Look for Plus Your Group. Not everyone is a fan of this.

Liz Gannes at All Components D ran an consultation with Ask Film movie director Stefan Weitz nowadays, and pressured him about why Ask is not getting more advantages of the problems around Google’s SPYW, given that it has the Twitter posts and Fb convenience that The look for applications does not. They talk about more than that, but here are the appropriate aspects that Weitz said to that factor of the converstaion:

We are doing some ads this several weeks time [There was also a Bing-is-great composing today]. They [Google] are doing a amazing job on their own of dealing with this concern.

But they are getting just like we are. They did what we do not want to do, which was make the client peppered with this items, with +1s everywhere, the Google+ content in the top factor. I think [Google] discovered we were ahead and they overextended. But I know a ton of people there and they are brilliant and they are responding to what has been said.

…

You’re going to see the finish of a lot of our learnings in the direct future. All those exercising will be used into something that I think is very interesting. How we think about community is always improving, and the next turn of the turn is more divided than we’ve seen in the last.

The search engines Penalized in France Because the Google Maps is Free

A commercial trial in London has requested The look for engines This particular language and parent organization The look for engines Inc. to pay €500,000 ($660,000) in loss to Bottin Cartographes after finding the organization accountable of unjust competition.

The France applying organization had reported that The look for engines Charts offered their assistance totally free in order to undercut competition and gain control of the industry. In addition, the trial assessed a €15,000 fine against The look for engines.

Bottin Cartographes offers the same assistance as The look for engines Charts, for a fee.

"This is the end of a two-year fight, a decision without precedent," the lawyer for Bottin Cartographes, Jean-David Scemmama, told The Daily Star. "We demonstrated the illegality of (Google's) strategy to remove its competition... the trial recognized the unjust and harassing personality of the methods used and designated Bottin Cartographes all it stated. This is initially The look for engines has been charged for its The look for engines Charts application."

It’s not initially The look for engines has lost a trial fight in This particular language, however. In Goal 2011, a France trial penalized The look for engines €100,000 for gathering payload data from unencrypted WiFi networks while gathering Street View pictures for The look for engines Charts. That same 30 days, The look for engines This particular language was penalized $430,000 for four breaches of trademark in a individual situation.

In Sept 2010, The look for engines and CEO Eric Schmidt were in prison for attorney because The look for engines recommended keywords including "rapist" and "satanist" when a question was done for the un named complaintant's name. In the same way, a France is attractive trial decided against The look for engines in Jan 2010 in a individual attorney situation in which the autosuggestions for the Center Nationale Prive de Creation a Distancelinked the center to the word “scam.”

Back in May 2010, The look for engines AdWords was discovered to have taken advantage of their major position in the France industry. In the settlement contract, they decided to change their rules on preventing specific promoters from buying provided links. At time, The look for engines was clear that despite reports they would apply the conditions of the contract to functions in all countries with AdWords, they would not.

"This contract and the expenses we have made are very small. They deal only with ads for traffic devices in This particular language. Nothing else. That said, we are always looking for ways to improve our AdWords services for the benefit of customers and promoters," a The look for engines representative said at time.

Google was also penalized in This particular language just last 30 days because google optimization recommended the key phrase for “crook” when customers searched in the name of a France insurance provider.

Google’s New Level of privacy Policy: Who Cares?

Lately Google’s new privateness is the coolest information. I can not stop reading about it. Lawmaker’s are delivering them characters, individuals are terrified about their private details being taken, and now notifications are being sent to my contact making sure I understand the guidelines.

Wow, this is a big deal! I think? What do individuals do on Google+ and YouTube? I must be really tedious. I can not think why I would even care if The search engines realized everything I do with their items. Oh no, they may discover out I explored The search engines charts to discover a yard purchase close to my house! They are want to know I’ve been buying items second hand! Time to buy an atlas.

I think this whole element might just be a misconception by the public. I’m sure I’ll get some dislike email over this report but, it seems completely absurd to me! Has not the world large web always traced searcher's details to various levels for promotion techniques purposes? Who loves you if The search engines knows you purchased a Woman Crazy Mp3, they’re not want to contact your associates about it.

I think they declared the whole element because they considered that the new techniques for handling searcher's information were going to create The search engines items seem more eye-catching. I like the idea that The search engines will not be promotion items to me that do not slip into my group. I do not proper value mature nappies or the blue pill. I do not create enough money to proper value the newest resources that are available. Save that rubbish for someone who has a non reusable income bigger than $3 a week.

I do not know that any of this focused promotion is even a actuality yet but if which is what Google’s getting at, indication me up. I think that The search engines just got everyone in a big anxiety over what many others have been doing for some time. Primarily they just taken themselves in the feet. Now everybody wants explanation. Lawmaker’s do not do anything when SOPA intends ingredients real freedom’s online but paradise prohibit if Google’s going to see the mature in half their (the Lawmakers) googlemail accounts….then a page must be selected.

I do not know maybe I’ve neglected something here. I have not seen anything that indicates any considerable change has taken place. The search engines manages a wide-varity of goods and services, now they are all protected under one overarching privateness report.
As with the past few complete version up-dates to Internet explorer, there can be not much going on for customers. The new abilities are mostly for designers.

A big enhancement from past variations is how Internet explorer 10 addresses plug-ins. Most plug-ins appropriate with Internet explorer 4 will work fine on Internet explorer 10.

The changes for designers are more effective presenting improvements to value authors and anti-aliasing for WebGL content. CSS3D Changes will bring 3D computer animation to 2D things. They will also add in assistance for full-screen Web programs.

Firefox 10 will also be the first Prolonged Support Launch version. The program was created for business IT professionals who were worried that the more-frequent Internet explorer up-dates were unsupportable in a business environment.

Firefox 12, which is a few more weeks out, will lastly add a tab page that customers of Internet explorer and Firefox enjoy now.
Most worrisome is that Facebook keeps a running log of the sites a user has visited in the past 90 days.

Facebook Tracking Details Released

The information on how data is tracked was compiled by USA Today, with sources including Facebook representatives Arturo Bejar (Facebook's engineering director), Gregg Stefancik (Facebook's engineering manager), Andrew Noyes (Facebook spokesman), and Barry Schnitt (Facebook corporate spokesman).

Facebook's tracking begins when you visit Facebook for the first time. If you register for an account, you get two cookies: a browser and a session cookie, the first of which allows Facebook to show an alternative message the next time you arrive and the second of which declares which account you're using. If you don't register for an account, you'll only get the browser cookie.

This alone is hardly worrisome; basic session cookies are very common. However, every page that has a Facebook plugin, including a Facebook "like" button, will then manipulate your cookies. Since the cookie stores information on every page that you visit that has a Facebook plugin, and a huge number of pages have such plugins, Facebook is able to keep an accurate log of which sites you've visited. This information is stored by Facebook for 90 days.

If you visit a site while not logged in but with the cookie in your browser, your system IP address, screen resolution, operating system, and other basic system information are stored. If you're logged into your Facebook account at the time that you visit a site that has a plugin, your basic personal information (name, email, friend information, etc.) are also stored.

How the Information Is Used

According to everything Facebook has indicated and all known uses of the data, the company is using the personal information only to get an accurate idea of how plugins are performing, how much the site is used, what browsers are popular, and ways the the social network can improve its appeal.

The issue is in the potential use of the data. Since Facebook has a log of the sites you've visited, it can gain unintended insight on a user's medical conditions, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, political preferences, and much more. Should Facebook then sell that information or use it to the benefit of advertisers, it would – in the minds of many users, including yours truly – constitute a serious breach of privacy.

This would be less concerning if Facebook didn't have a patent on using the tracked data for just such a purpose. While Facebook corporate spokesperson Barry Schnitt stated, "We patent lots of things, and future products should not be inferred from our patent application," his statement did little to alleviate user concerns.

How do you feel about the cookie tracking? Do you think Facebook will abuse the tracked data? How should users respond? What government regulation, if any, should be implemented? Leave your thoughts in the comments, below.

Google Now Shows Ads Below Search Results

Ads that were previously shown to the side of the results may in some cases appear below the search results, Google announced via Inside AdWords. Google reports that ad click-throughs are higher when the ads are integrated into the search results instead of being displayed on the side.

Google will now be classifying the ads as "Other" in your AdWords account. These are also known as experimental impressions, but should easily seen at the bottom of the page. Google should rename this from Top vs Side to "Top vs Other" in the coming weeks as not to confuse people.

Google has confirmed that ads will only be displayed on the side or at the bottom, at least for now. When ads appear on the right, no ads will appear on the bottom; when ads appear on the bottom, no ads will appear on the right.

Will this will work out for advertisers in the long run? I’ve found that 90 percent of clicks come the top three ad positions. The other 10 percent of all AdWords clicks come from rest of the ad positions. Now, 10 percent of the clicks can be a lot but when you're looking for the best clients and easiest to sell, those people are the ones that are clicking on the top of the page.

Over the past couple months Google has been updating many different features in AdWords, search, and the way they work with local advertisers. Google even now allows us to block ads from advertisers.

What do you think about the new changes to AdWords? Do you think these changes will help advertisers or hurt them in the long run?

Facebook Gestures: How Users Could Be Sharing Their Opinion

Facebook “Likes” have become a universal way to share or promote a piece of content on a blog or website (or Facebook itself). There are even T-shirts with the Like button printed on them.

The Like button is now a recognizable symbol, and while it is used millions of times each day, the fact remains that the Like button cannot be used in every occasion.

Users need more variation in order to both adequately express how they feel about content posted on Facebook and why they are endorsing a specific product or piece of content via their Facebook profile.

For instance, multiple pages and groups are asking Facebook to add a “Dislike” button option (the biggest page has over 3.3 million fans, even though it is not updated).

Besides having the freedom to state a negative or positive opinion on Facebook, many users are hesitant to “like” a piece of content online in order to share it, as “liking” something implies they condone it.

For instance, if someone posts something horrific like an abuse story or an obituary, users are hesitant to “Like” or “thumbs up” that content, as nobody wants to “like” someone else’s death or tragedy.

However, they may want to share it with others, so the option to share a piece of content without having to say a person “likes” it may help increase exposure for all types of stories, not just ones that tend to be positive or garner likes (such as a humorous article about a dog who can water ski).

It is important to give people flexibility to share their true opinion, as not everything — especially when it comes to opinions on online news, products and content — can be answered with a simple yes or no, as the Boolean voting system requires. Options are crucial to allowing users to rate and share content more in accordance with how they really feel about it.

While promoting a piece of content by “liking” it may not be ideal in many users’ subconscious, because that is currently the only option available (since Facebook no longer supports the “share” action buttons as of February 2011), it is morally OK to hit “like” on content in order to share it.

Regular Facebook users and content readers understand that liking an external link doesn’t mean a person necessarily supports the actions of story, but instead wants to promote it or share it with friends via their Facebook profile.

Facebook most likely recognizes that only having the Like button as an option isn’t ideal, which is why it has been speculated they are going to release Facebook “Gestures,” which gives users choices on how they share and comment on internal and external content that is shared via the Facebook Like button. Users can show they “watched” or “read” a piece of content, instead of having to say that they “liked” it.

This is a crucial development in the social sharing space, as millions of websites and blogs are using the Like button to allow visitors to share content and products. As the online social experience continues to grow and evolve, users will continue to expect more intuitive and descriptive ways to share content, products and entertainment that is interesting or important to them.

While Facebook hasn’t announced “Gestures” yet as expected (as of press time), it is still a speculation that with the new navigational display changes and the upcoming Timeline profile layout, the way users will share content internally and externally via Facebook will have to change as well.

YouTube Adds a Politics Channel

YouTube has launched a new Politics channel that lets users see how the 2012 candidates compare in popularity on YouTube. The page also works as a hub for finding political videos, parodies, debates, and the channels of political candidates.

The Features of the Politics Channel

An election.

While some of us avoid politics like the plague and others throw themselves enthusiastically into the fray, the majority can at least enjoy quick access to political information, coverage, debates, parodies, and more. The new YouTube Politics channel aims to connect users with all of the above: The "site will feature the latest campaign ads, parodies, gotchas, and speeches, offering you a 360-view of the election," according to the YouTube blog.

You can find the Politics page at YouTube.com/Politics. In addition to seeing the most popular videos, users can view a chart of the 2012 candidates. You can view the popularity of those candidates on YouTube by either video views or subscriptions (Rick Perry is winning on views while Ron Paul takes the subscriptions in a landslide victory).

A "meet the candidates" section allows you to see the popular videos for each candidate, look at current YouTube statistic related to the candidate, and navigate directly to the candidate's channel. All of the 2012 potentials have a presence on YouTube.

Be aware that certain browser extensions and the beta Cosmic Panda look break the page. You can view the core political elements, regardless of your extensions or experiments, here.

How Non-Campaign Videos Appear

Since the popularity and default videos for this page come from the official campaign channels of candidates, the process for adding parodies, screw-ups, and other user-posted content isn't clear. PaidContent questioned YouTube about how this process would work.

A YouTube spokesperson stated, "The Hot Political Videos tab which you can see at the top of the page takes you to that week’s top videos that could be from right across the spectrum – citizen-created, gotcha moments, news footage, etc. That section is curated by Storyful. [...] While a citizen can’t add a video directly to youtube.com/politics, if someone uploads a video and it starts to take off, it would possibly be included in the Hot Political Videos list."

YouTube has been involved in politics previously, including through sponsoring the GOP debate alongside Fox and creating a virtual town hall.

Your Facebook Data File: Everything You Never Wanted Anyone to Know

A group of Austrian students called Europe v. Facebook recently got their hands on their complete Facebook user data files - note, this is not the same file Facebook sends if you request your personal history through the webform in Account Settings.

See, Facebook wants you to feel safe and warm and fuzzy about controlling your own privacy. As we move into the era of the Open Graph and apps that autopost your activities, users are raising serious questions about data collection and privacy.

To help quell these fears, Facebook lets users download their their own data, as they said in an official statement to the Wall Street Journal blog Digits:

“We believe that every Facebook user owns his or her own data and should have simple and easy access to it. That is why we’ve built an easy way for people to download everything they have ever posted on Facebook, including all of their messages, posts, photos, status updates and profile information. People who want a copy of the information they have put on Facebook can click a link located in ‘Account Settings’ and easily get a copy of all of it in a single download. To protect the information, this feature is only available after the person confirms his or her password and answers appropriate security questions.”

Phew, that’s good. But wait... how come the students over at Europe v. Facebook got a different, more complete file when requested through Section 4 DPA + Art. 12 Directive 95/46/EG, a European privacy law? The carefully crafted statement above says they will give you access to everything you’ve put on Facebook - but what about the data Facebook collects without your knowledge?

What You May Not Get in Your Copy of Your Facebook File

On their website, Europe v. Facebook lists their primary objective as transparency, saying, “It is almost impossible for the user to really know what happens to his or her personal data when using facebook. For example ‘removed’ content is not really deleted by Facebook and it is often unclear what Facebook exactly does with our data.”

Indeed, the complete user file they received when requested through Section 4 DPA + Art. 12 Directive 95/46/EG is the same one available to attorneys and law enforcement via court order. It contains more information than the one Facebook sends users through their webform, according to Europe v. Facebook founder and law student Max Schrems, including:

1. Every friend request you’ve ever received and how you responded.

2. Every poke you’ve exchanged.

3. Every event you’ve been invited to through Facebook and how you responded.

4. The IP address used each and every time you’ve logged in to Facebook.

5. Dates of user name changes and historical privacy settings changes.

6. Camera metadata including time stamps and latitude/longitude of picture location, as well as tags from photos - even if you’ve untagged yourself.

7. Credit card information, if you’ve ever purchased credits or advertising on Facebook.

8. Your last known physical location, with latitude, longitude, time/date, altitude, and more. The report notes that they are unsure how Facebook collects this data.

One of Europe v. Facebook’s chief objections is that Facebook offers “no sufficient way of deleting old junk data.” Many of the complaints they’ve filed with the Irish Data Protection Commissioner* involve Facebook’s continued storage of data users believe they have deleted. Copies of the redacted files received through their requests are published on the Europe v. Facebook website.

Better Hope You’ve Behaved Yourself...

Ever flirted with someone other than your spouse in a Facebook chat? You had better hope your message records don’t end up in the hands of a divorce lawyer, because they can access even the ones you’ve deleted.

That day you called your employer in Chicago and begged off work, as you were sick? You logged in to Facebook from an IP address in Miami. Oops.

A few weeks ago, Australian hacker exposed Facebook’s practice of tracking logged out users and they quickly “fixed” the problem (after trying to defend it, initially). But the extent to which they collect and keep information users may not even realize they are giving Facebook in the first place - or believe they’ve deleted - is worrisome for privacy watchdogs.

The truly questionable thing is, the average user has no idea what their file contains and in North America, at least, have no right to access it. ITWorld’s Dan Tynan requested his, citing the U.S. Constitution, but received only an autoresponse telling him the form is only applicable in certain jurisdictions. In other words, if they’re not required to release your data to you by law, don’t hold your breath.

But then, maybe you’ll be one of the “lucky” ones who will have your activities brought up in court or a police investigation. There will be little left to the imagination, then.

What You Can Do About It

We contacted Max Schrems and asked whether Europe v. Facebook is able to help users, even those in other jurisdictions, to access their personal files. Though they receive emails from around the world, he said, their focus is on the 22 active complaints they currently have registered with the Irish Data Protection Commission. Residents of the European Union can fill out the online form on Facebook’s website (this is not the Account Settings form, but a request for the full file).

Schrems did offer tips for all users who want to curb the amount of information they’re handing over to Facebook from this point forward. “I would frequently check my privacy settings, turn everything to ‘Friends only’ and turn off ‘Platform.’ Users have to realize that you don’t just share with your Friends, but you always share with your Friends AND Facebook.”

Judging by the sheer difference in file sizes, comparing the personally requested vs. legally requested files Schrems and Europe v. Facebook received, there’s a lot of data left on the table. For the same user, the file sizes varied enormously. Schrems described the file obtained through a legal request as a 500MB PDF including data the user thought they had deleted. The one sent through a regular Facebook request was a 150MB HTML file and included video (the PDF did not) but did not have the deleted data.

We reached out to Facebook for comment but had not received a response by the time of publication.

Learn SEO in 2 days

Comprehensive Guide to White-Hat & Black-Hat SEO Techniques - On Page & Off Page Optimization

Since the Bing-Yahoo search alliance was made official last year, Yahoo sites around the world have migrated both their search ads and results to a Bing-powered back-end. Now webmasters can take advantage of the combined information through their Bing Webmaster Tools.

Bing Webmaster Tools now provides users with traffic data from both Bing and Yahoo. Users should see an increase in their impressions and clicks, with some slight changes to their CTR. The changes rolled out between August 12th and 16th, so users are likely to see a traffic spike during that time-frame.

Unfortunately, you can’t currently filter for Yahoo versus Bing results. What you will see is a combination of the two, with no distinction as of this time. The combined results will be displayed for all countries where Bing is powering Yahoo’s search results. It’s expected that every regional version of Yahoo will have made the transition by early 2012, with the notable exception of Yahoo Japan; Yahoo Japan functions as an independent company and will have its back-end powered by Google.

Bing’s decision to support the Yahoo webmaster data comes just in time, too, since Yahoo announced earlier this year that they would be shutting down their own webmaster tools once every market has transitioned to Bing.

Launch of Google+ Games Heats Up Social Gaming Battle With Facebook

Google+ has added its first 16 games. The good news for developers is that Google is only taking a 5 percent commission, compared to Facebook's 30 percent. Not to be outdone, however, Facebook is adding numerous new game features.

Google+ has begun a rollout of a new Games tab that will include access to 16 different games, including "Angry Birds," and "Bejeweled Blitz" – from 10 app developers. Fifteen of these games were made in Flash while one was made in HTML 5.

One of the developers on board is Funzio. Company COO Anil Dharni discussed the process of adapting for Google+. It took the company about a month to bring its popular game "Crime City" to the new platform. They chose to go with Flash instead of HTML 5 because "HTML5 is too slow for games at the moment."

With an estimated 25 million users, Google+ is a nice outlet for game developers. However, that still leaves Google's social network at just 3 percent the size of Facebook.

The big incentive being pitched is that Google is taking only a 5 percent cut of in-game transactions, compared to the 30 percent taken by Facebook. Google is quick to clarify, however, that this is a promotional rate and the company has yet to decide what the final commission will be.

Google's structure for games is designed to be non-intrusive; stories that originate from games aren't visible in the main stream, but those interested can navigate to the Games tab and check out what their friends have been up to. The Games tab started rolling out to users on August 11 and will be available to all users in the coming days.

Facebook Steps Up Their Games

Facebook must have seen the potential threat of Google+ coming; in the last few days, Facebook has made some significant changes to application UI features and in-app functionality. This includes a new canvas that will notify users when they have invites or other notifications coming from a game. The new canvas also gives app developers a lot more real estate.

More importantly, however, Facebook is adding some social features that may restore some virality that app developers had access to in the previous versions of the news stream. App developers will now be able to add "achievements," competitive scoring systems, and other person-to-person sharing features.

London Riot Victim Gets Social Media Help To Fix Destroyed Barbershop

Social media has been an integral part of the riots in England, both for good and for bad. Though many blame quick, wide-scale communication for mobilizing and then prolonging the riots, social media has also been a tool for good.

For instance, a few days ago Londoners took to Twitter to help orchestrate a giant cleanup operation. Using the @RiotCleanup Twitter account and #riotcleanup hashtag, activists mobilized thousands to take to the streets to aid in the restoration.

One story in particular caught the attention of the internet. An 89-year old barber named Aaron Biber had his barbershop destroyed by rioters. They smashed windows, stole various items and left the inside in a state of disarray. The photo above caught fire online, even appearing on the front page of Reddit a couple days ago under the heading “He’s 89 and just discovered that his barbershop was totally destroyed by London Riots.” That post received 1271 upvotes and over 600 comments.

Mr. Biber’s story was also picked up by various news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal.

Interns at a London advertising agency called BBH decided to take up his cause. Mr. Biber said that he would likely have to shut down his shop because he doesn’t have insurance and can’t afford all the repairs. So the interns decided to raise the money for him through the internet.

They created a blog called Keep Aaron Cutting. Here’s what they say about the project -

Aaron has been in the Tottenham area for 41 years and at 89 is devastated by the damage to his livelihood.

Let’s use the internet, spread this and all donate a couple of quid so Aaron can get his shop back up and running so he will not have to worry how he’s going to make a living at his old age.

They are asking that people use social media to spread the story, in hopes that they can raise enough money to clean up his shop. currently, over 8,500 people have shared the blog page via Twitter and over 11,200 have shared it to Facebook.

Google Still Dominates Search

Water’s wet, sky’s blue, and Google is still king of the search engine industry. So much so, in fact, the amount of search queries conducted on Google more than double Yahoo and Bing (one and the same now?) their combined output.

In the latest study from Experian Hitwise, Google’s position as top search engine dog was confirmed in black and white with the following quote:

Google accounted for 66.05 percent of all U.S. searches conducted in the four weeks ending July 30, 2011. The combined Bing-powered search comprised 28.05 percent of searches for the month, with Yahoo! Search and Bing receiving 14.49 percent and 13.19 percent, respectively.

The remainder of search engine industry, which Experian states is at 73 engines, only account for less than six percent of all Internet searches.

Again, considering Google’s financial success, this news should come as no surprise, although, the spin Experian offers is perfect example of twisting statistics to fit a theme. Take the following for instance:

Yahoo! Search and Bing achieved the highest success rates in July 2011. This means that for Yahoo! Search, more than 81.36 percent of searches executed resulted in a visit to a Website. Google achieved a success rate of 68 percent, an increase of 1 percent in July 2011. The share of unsuccessful searches highlights the opportunity for both the search engines and marketers to evaluate the search engine result pages to ensure that searchers are finding relevant information.

That’s all fine and good for Bing/Yahoo, but when you consider the sheer number of Google’s search volume compared to Bing/Yahoo, it stands to less successful searches were conducted. Once again, the sample size in the statistics need to be considered. Smaller sample sizes lead to higher degrees of variability, something stated quite clear in Wikipedia’s entry concerning Sample size determination:

Larger sample sizes generally lead to increased precision when estimating unknown parameters.

With less people using Bing/Yahoo, but more clicking over to sites, in order to make this a little more reliable, the same amount of Google users would have to use Bing/Yahoo. If the site-visiting results were similar, then you’d be onto something.

Who’s Using Google+ ?

Experian Hitwise has put out a new look at the early adopters of Google+. The service has been out for about a month and a half now, and the invites are easier to come by. Each user has been allotted 150 of them, and a week ago, Google gave us a link to post to the web that enables people to click and sign up.

“Using the Experian Hitwise sample of over 10mm Internet users in the U.S., combined with our New Mosaic segmentation system launched this summer, it’s possible to visualize the adoption of Google+,” General Manager, Global Research at Experian Hitwise Bill Tancer says. “Careful analysis of the Mosaic segments since launch; reveal that in just over six weeks, we’ve moved from innovators to early adopters to early mainstream users visiting the new social network.”

“Within three weeks of launch, the Mosaic type Colleges and Cafés (O53) peaks at a representation index of over 400 (members of this segment are more than four times more likely to have visited Google+ during the week ending July 16, 2011 then the Internet population overall),” he says. “We describe this Mosaic type as young singles and recent college graduates living in college communities.”

” It’s not uncommon for innovators to trial new services online and in some cases abandon those services when they lose interest,” says Tancer. “For the week ending August 6, 2011, Colleges and Cafés have dropped to an index of 73 and now make-up only 0.3% of visits to Google+.”

“However, in this case, when innovators move on, several early adopter segments take their place,” he continues. “One of the predominant early adopter segments in the chart above is A03, Kids and Cabernet, described as ‘Prosperous, middle-aged married couples living child-focused lives in affluent suburbs.’”

“Interestingly, when we look at this segment’s stats for visits to Facebook, they index at a mere 68 and make up less than 0.7% of visits to the leading social network,” he adds. ” While Facebook maintains its position as social networking market leader, a number of New Mosaic segments under-index for visits to the top social networking site. As Google+ matures, watching the migration of these segments will provide an indication of whether Google+ will grow into a Facebook competitor or find its place as a niche social network for specific demographics.”

Google of course just launched games on Google+. It will be interesting to see what kind of demographic impact that has on the service. It should at least help push the service more into the mainstream.

Google+ Gets Games

When Google released Plus, their cries that it was not an attempt to be a Facebook killer fell on deaf ears. The majority of us ignored what was said and instead saw what was presented: a site that looked shockingly similar to Facebook, only without advertisements and with a few Google-unique features. Now the similarities are continuing, with Google introducing a game interface.

Games on Google+

Google has worked with 10 application developers to launch 16 games. 15 of these games were created in Flash while the last was made in HTML 5. These aren’t “native applications” for Google. Rather, they’re adapted to work with Google+’s social connections and game feed.

The game feed doesn’t work with the live stream of news, as Facebook games can. Rather, all Google updates related to games are visible only to users who navigate to a specific Games tab. Google’s aim is both to make the games less intrusive and to free users to share their recent accomplishments from games without feeling that they’re clogging the news feed for friends.

The games allow users to make purchases for special extras, giving Google+ its first real method of monetization. However, the monetization will be fairly low, at least for the time being; Google is taking only a five percent cut. Meanwhile, Facebook takes a full 30 percent. Google is quick to note, however, that the five percent is a promotional rate.

For SEOs, the step into games for Google gives the first indication that Google will open Plus up to advertising in one form or another. Additionally, should the games launch successfully, time on Google Plus and the ability to acquire new users will both increase.

Panda Goes Global

If you’re an SEO, you already know – and perhaps dread – the term “Panda.” This major algorithm change impacted the way we think of search ranking in substantial ways. Panda has since continued to develop (we are, as some industry experts have speculated, on “Panda 2.3″) and has now rolled out to a variety of additional languages.

Panda was released in the U.S. for English queries in February. Since that time, Panda has rolled out to all English searches around the world. This week, Panda has added support for every language except Japanese, Chinese, and Korean; Google continues to conduct tests on Panda’s changes for those languages.

For most languages, the impact will be fairly minimal: Only six to nine percent of searches will be affected by Panda. However, searches that are impacted will show changes that are visibly different from what they were previously. English-language searches were impacted by an estimated 12 percent, meaning that the most dramatic impact from Panda has already happened.

“Our scientific evaluation data show that this change improves our search quality across the board,” said Google Fellow Amit Singhal. “The response to Panda from users has been very positive.” It certainly seems as though Google has worked out the majority of the kinks from the initial Panda release, and SEOs and webmasters have adapted beautifully to the new Google priorities.

Google Brings Public Plus Posts to the SERP

Google is spreading Plus, its social network, through a variety of new mediums. The most recent is the inclusion of public posts in the Google SERP. These posts only appear to users who are connected to the original poster on Google+.

The Public Post Imports

Here’s how it workss: If a users is logged into their Google+ account when they visit the search page, their search results will also include posts made by those who are in one or more of the user’s Circles. Only public posts are shown. Each post also includes the date of publication, the name of the posted, an image of the poster, and a notification that the post was originally shared on Google+.

This may be Google’s way of returning to realtime search. Google realtime shut down in June when Google and Twitter didn’t re-up their agreement for Twitter’s firehose of Twitter post data. Google indicated that they’d be bringing realtime search back with Google+ information.

The Importance of Plus Postings

This choice also makes Google+ more important for businesses. While there is not yet a business profile as part of Google+, the future is clear: If businesses get onto Plus, connect with people, and share posts relevant to their keywords, they’ll gain a new access point inside the search engines. However, businesses won’t be able to experiment with this approach until business accounts are released; that’s expected to happen later this year.

Meanwhile, the public Plus posting will be visible in the SERP in the coming days.

Twitter and Weather Channel Team Up on Local Weather Tweeting

Tweets to be used on Weather Channel Properties

ou probably knew that Twitter has been instrumental in shaping the news, but what about the weather?

Well, I’m not sure that Twitter’s altering the weather itself too much (though there was that stuff about Google searches’ impact on the environment a while back), but it is now adding to weather reporting.

Twitter announced today that it has partnered with The Weather Channel to bring real time tweets about the weather to The Weather Channel, Weather.com, and The Weather Channel’s mobile apps.

The Weather Channel has created Twitter accounts for 200 U.S. cities. Users should be able to keep up with the local weather via these accounts.

If you go to Weather.com, they have a tool called “Social Weather,” which allows you to find the local weather for your area, provided that you live in an area they’re tweeting about.

Twitter itself provides a list of other accounts to follow for commentary around weather events here.

“People send more than 200 Tweets per minute about the weather,” says Twitter on its official blog. “When conditions turn severe, weather-related Tweets double, as people share powerful personal stories along with reports of hurricanes, heat waves and blizzards.”
