2011-11-17T10:57:00.001-08:00

The U.N. Security Council on Wednesday condemned the Syrian government's crackdown on protesters. The council issued a presidential statement that condemns the widespread violations of human rights and the use of force against civilians by the Syrian authorities.

The announcement comes amid talks that began Monday in New York to address the crisis, and it would address what a White House spokesman is calling a "grotesque and appalling" situation.

It also comes as security forces brazenly advance into what residents there say is the heart of restive city of Hama, a center of discontent and bastion of anti-government protest where violent tensions have persisted for days.

Astrid Berges-Frisbey: el encanto mortal de la sirena en ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’

2011-07-22T16:20:00.001-07:00

Extraido de: Vívelo Hoy. www.vivelohoy.com

With a face so innocent and with an expression that does not break or a plate, it is difficult to imagine the Spanish-French actress Astrid Berges-Frisbey a murderous mermaid (yes, murder).

In "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" Berges-Frisbey, of Catalan origin, plays Syrena, the largest of a group of mermaids that are nearest version that has been seen on film this character from Greek mythology: beautiful women with fish tails who bewitch men with her beauty and singing, to bring to destruction (or death).

"For people who knows the great legends, the ancient stories of the sirens, (the character) corresponds well to that idea, but for which it is thought that the sirens are only Ariel character from animated film 'Little Mermaid '(or "Splash"), can not even think how bad things are in the movie. They are so bad! "He told TODAY laughs.

Being part of a mega production and is the fourth installment of the saga "Pirates of the Caribbean", the actress seems incredible. "Striking is not enough, the truth is I never even dreamed or thought of working in the U.S. or in English and also in a film that was I was a fan when it came out first. I think it's like a dream and I still believe, even today do not believe it really! "He said.

Your participation in the film was like any other project, since it had to do casting. When his agent called and said, as if anything-he had auditioned for "Pirates" was perplexed.

"I thought 'What are you saying?, Are you crazy?" (Laughs) because I spoke English and was so incredible, amazing and hustling. Arriving on the set I was nervous, was not that I felt incapable, but did not think it was real, I never thought I could take that role. Do not want to appear ridiculous in the subject of English, I wanted to feel at least as professional as in French and Spanish, "he explained.

Sharing such an incredible experience to be part of this big production with co-star Sam Clafin, who plays Philip Swift, helped him feel better.

"Sam and I were the young actors and we both felt very grateful and a lot of pressure, thinking how we can do and trying to try to do our best. The truth is that sharing this type of experience with someone, it was pretty cool, "he said.

Even the film's opening night at the Disney park in Anaheim, California, recalled that she and Sam held hands, nervous they could not believe that this experience will be happening. "We were petrified."

A family of 'pirates'

At 24, Berges-Frisbey already have a career in television and film in France and Spain but nothing like this production where even the set seemed daunting at first.

"Before I arrived I wondered what I find, he had heard that these sets were huge and not just to meet people, and although it was impressive - I remember I had 800 people working on the same night, 'Pirates' is a kind of family, had a large part of the team that made the first film and I know you. Johnny Depp is a great person who greets you and you very quickly integrated into the team, I think the fact we started shooting in Hawaii helped us all to know, were far from our homes, our families, our homes and we all lived close, we created a family and a feeling of family was a great pleasure and an honor to be part of that family. "

Do not let 'love' for Hollywood

Astrid does not think at all be enchanted by the siren song of Hollywood. "I like to vary the pleasures of working time, so I'm open to all types of projects. The proof is that after 'Pirates' film roll a little Spanish, I'm not interested only in Hollywood, I multiply the projects and the projects I want to give French or Spanish. "
