Or maybe that’s a bad title?! Any who, sorry for the lack of news once again. I’ve been busy with my business stuff and side tracked with the task of finding a good eReader for my wife and looking at tablets for me. Luckily I think the tablet/eReader thing is about done as we have settled on a Graphite Kindle for her and an Asus Transformer for me! Mine should be here tomorrow and hers should be here today I think.

I know I hear somebody growling at me, because they heard I had purchased an Archos 70. Well it was a good tablet, for someone who isn’t a power user like me. With me I like options and raw power and it simply didn’t have it. The only true fault it had was not enough ram, at only 256MB by the time Android is loaded it only left you with ~90MB of ram to run apps. So once you start doing ANYTHING on it, it would started getting slow. SO I returned it to Amazon and purchased an Asus Transformer from Newegg. Mucho grand!

Ok so back to business, I know I owe you guys and DiskTrix a review on Ultimate Defrag 3 plus the roudup of PD12 vs UD3 ect. But quite frankly you guys are going to have to give me time because I’m sick, busy, and involved in gadgetry. So stand-by! lol thanks guys…..

When we launched the original PSP, we talked a lot about the potential for interoperability, or shared content between the devices, for whatever reasons, frankly that really never came to fulfilment – development challenges went against that.

If you want to maximise the potential of a connected device – especially one that offers 3G – it means giving a lot of thought to how connectedness and immediacy, and those sort of concepts, marry together with games. And that’s what I’d like to see Vita be all about.

When asked about the problems and difficulties the PSP faced in getting third party development support, House stressed that Vita, will be a different proposition than the PSP with it’s small screen.

In contrast to the PSP, which was essentially taking a home console experience and replicating it on a portable device, we’ve worked really hard on Vita to pack in as many interfaces that are only possible on the portable experience, that differentiates gaming on Vita from other devices, but it also gives developers different ways to explore getting the best out of their franchises.

While not going into too many details, Andrew House did say, that Vita will represent a “significantly better business model” for Sony than “the first couple of years of the PS3″. However from the looks of things and the details release it will probably have the same issue as the PS3, considering they plan to sell it at the same price point as a Nintendo DS. Judging by the hardware I don’t think they can hit, in manufacturing, the same costs without a lose of quality. And generally Sony quality is pretty high. Of course he also pointed out that some of the main goals of the Vita is to regain consumer trust and improving security, and I would imagine they are since the Sony Network hack as of late that shut down the service for about a month and compromised millions of accounts.

Due to the network outage that happened due to the hacking festivities, Sony has said:

The outage has given us pause for thought on cloud storage, having said that, similar to cross-game chat, it’s one of the things that gamers tell us they are really interested in. We have to strike the right balance between pursuing what our audience clearly wants and any risks associated with it, and dress it in the context of the wider security measures that we’re putting in place.

Today Apple is going to begin selling unlocked iPhone 4 GSM models to customers in the United States from it’s online store. You can start hearing the roaring crowds or iPhuds running to there nearest computer – until they hear the price. The phone is to cost $649 for 16GB and $749 for the 32GB model and you can also get them in Black and White.

The unlocked phones will arrive at your front door without an active microSim, which will enable you to carry it to your local GSM provider and have it activated on their network.

The unlocked iPhone4 will work on T-Mobile’s U.S. network, which operates like AT&T’s GSM network. But due to the differences in network if you activate the phone on T-Mobile’s network it will operate on the older and slower EDGE network instead of 3G,

The benefits of having an unlocked phone can be nice, however in the U.S. it really only give you two choices, T-Mobile with their better pricing but slower speeds, or AT&T with their data caps and higher costs. But either way you go you can stay out of a contract which is worth the price of admission for many people.

Speaking on price, do some of these dopes realize what they can buy for basically $750, lets forget about any taxes and shipping that would bring to total to much closer to $800. Well lemme rephrase it this way, for that money I can get a slightly used phone either Android or Apple and a tablet….eh each to his own, but I believe that’s what they are planning on people doing, either way there is a gotcha!

Rumor floating around says Facebook is planning on going public in early 2012, becoming the latest company to cash in on the new bubble or over inflated valuations with technology stocks. This will be the hottest IPO sp far, which some estimate could reach up to a valuation of $100 million.

A recent private sale of a large chunk of stock – 100,000 shares – gave Facebook a valuation of $85 billion. To be expected the buzz around the valuation and pending IPO will send there initial valuation through the roof. The new is following that of Groupon, which announced it’s IPO ealier this month, and LinkedIn, which start trading publicly last month.

CNBC reported on the news Monday, saying that pressure was mounting within the company to offer stock on the public market. While Facebook does offer shares in the company internally, financial regulations limit how these employees can sell their private shares publicly.

The company is waiting to go public due to the fact that it is approaching a threshold set by the Securities and Exchange Commission. When a company has more than 500 private investors, it is required to release financial data publicly.

At this point in the game, it just makes sense for Facebook to go public. I mean if you are already dealing with almost 500 investors that means you have the staff and banking in order to deal with a lot more. Moving into the public domain for trading your stocks will ultimately end up garnishing more money for the company as well. The downside to this is Facebook would then have to actually start making large sums of money to keep investors and the board happy and if that doesn’t happen it means Facebook could lose control over it’s own engine.

With Facebook now seemingly moving forward with its plans to go public, the only other major web property left is Twitter. Many experts believe that will also happen within the next year or so. But the microblogging site may be waiting to feel out the market, too. Hopefully they go ahead a do it, god knows they need the capital.

E3 is a wrap but there where some things missing from the show, even though some gamers say they were walking on clouds. FCC is finding that the local reporter pool talent is drying up. Should I apply? Study finds the internet makes us creepy, well ok it’s not a study lol. A Google music review, and the L.M.F. security breach that has now been blamed on a foreign country.

Well this is the second in a multi-part review of Perfect Disk 12 and Ultimate Defrag 3. I’ve had multiple request about when I was going to be done with this, so I stuck with it last night late until I got this completed. It seems both groups from either side of this are highly spirited towards their own defragger of choice. So maybe this will swing some or confirm the others thought. Either way judging by the spirit of some of these guys I’ll probably either end up making friends or enemies with some of them haha.

So lets get rolling-

About The Company

Consistently Raxco has been the first to support and recieve certification on the latest Windows versions, including Windows 7, Vista, Windows Server 2008, and that’s just to name a few. As they phrase it in their About Us Page:

Perfect Disk products provide innovative defragmentation features and a host of customizable administration tools, making Perfect Disk the industries leading defragmentation solution.

Key Features:

There are several features Raxco has placed into this product which can be very handy for users under certain circumstances. And depending on what and how you setup your installation of Perfect Disk 12 Professional they advertise you will see:

Faster web browsing and download

Better photo and video editing experience

Maximize streaming media performance

S.M.A.R.T. monitoring of physical drives

Advanced reporting and setting control features

Designed for today’s power user looking for optimum PC performance

I think it’s easy to conclude this is exactly what you expect ANY disk defragmentation software to do, but with the inclusion of technologies such as ‘OptiWrite’ does perfect disk bring the perfect mix of options to the playing field to make it shine above the rest?

What’s New?

I’m sure there are a few of you guys out there that current use Perfect Disk 11 or maybe even 12 and are sitting there staring into the purchase screen wondering if it’s worth the extra expenditure to purchase an upgrade. Some of you are wondering what new features could be brought to a disk deframentation suite that would make it worthwhile to even purchase Perfect Disk 12 to begin with. They have stepped into their new edition with a pretty strong set of features and options that I think would stand out to quite a few people, especially some of you with SSDs!

OptiWrite

SSD Optimization

Stealth Patrol

Advanced Boot Time Defrag

New Dynamic Zone Engine

Improved User Experience

So lets jump right in and see what it’s all about and if it lives up to the press releases and hype from around the web!

You are now being targeting by a new scam that tried to load your PC with fake antivirus software using a passsably convincing version of the Windows Update page.

The oddity of this latest attack, discovered by Sophos, is that it triggers only when the user is using both Windows and Firefox and it then pushes a page redirect placing you squarely onto the fake update site. So what’s the first big giveaway that it’s fake? Widows update can only be started as a background activity in Windows or through Internet Explorer.

The page itself is a copy of the Windows Update page offering an “urgent” 2.8MB download which will turn out to start a useless security scan plugging fake antivirus software. The technique is clever but most users I would hope would know not to fall for it. However users who agree to the update without being entirely sure on what they are looking at is genuine will be more easily convinced that a PC has been infected by a non-existent malware later detected by the bogus program.

Graham Culey of Sophos:

Users need to be more vigilant than ever before as bogus security alerts pop-up in their browsers, fake anti-virus attacks are big business for cybercriminals and they are investing time and effort into making them as convincing as possible. Malicious hackers are using smart social engineering tricks more and more often, and the risk is that users will be scared by a phoney warning into handing over money to fix problems that never existed in the first place.

This method has been used in various forms over the last few years and knowledgeable users fall for it everyday making it more popular amongst the less than accepted part of society. This is not entirely convincing to users that are experienced but those users aren’t the ones who satisfy the business model of the scrupulous authors of these bits of malware.

GamesTM had an interesting read where they interview RIPE NCC’s Axel Pawlik on the restructuring of IP addresses, and what it means for the gamers out there.

For those of you keeping track the internet is running out of addresses on IPV4 and a push to convert everyone to IPV6 is fast approaching. Some say it’s already started, which in my belief it start several years ago with router manufactuers etc. For instance my Buffalo router is IPV6 aware should the switch ever take place, and most Microsoft OS’s are aware as well, with Vista and W7 and several other Server OSs being setup to accept the addresses by default.

Axel Pawlik is the managing director of the AMsterdam based Reseaux IP European Network Coordination Center, which was involved with World IPV6 Day on June 8th, 2011. While most where unaware of what happened that day, it just so happens some major companies like Google, Yahoo, Facebook, and Microsoft Bing, temporarily trialled the more complex IPv6 standard in a day long international event – and guess what it went off without a hitch. However the process will be long and hard and will bring several tribulations for gamers….

If we carried on as we are with IPv4, when are we expected to completely run out of IP addresses?

It cannot be predicted exactly, but at the current rate of IPv4 allocation, the RIPE NCC would expect that IPv4 resources in its region will be exhausted by the second half of 2011. It is likely that all regions around the world may run out of IPv4 addresses by 2013. In fact, in April of this year APNIC, the Regional Internet Registry (RIR) for the Asia Pacific region, announced the release of its last block of IPv4 addresses, effectively meaning they are out of IPv4 resources already.

How will the big changeover work, and when exactly will it happen? Is the roll-out worldwide, or in selected zones?

The aim should now be to drive the adoption of native IPv6 networks all around the world if it is not already happening. IPv4 resources are depleting at different rates around the world, Asia Pacific has already reached its last block of IPv4 address, but as it stands AfriNIC, the Regional Internet Registry for Africa, will be the last RIR with IPv4 addresses available. Each RIR is responsible for serving its own geographical region and when its IPv4 resources are exhausted, there will only be IPv6 left.

What are, in your opinion, the specific considerations for gamers when the switchover happens?

There are two main considerations for the gamer when it comes to IPv6 adoption.

Gamers need to push manufacturers to make devices that are IPv6 ready and ISPs to have IPv6 enabled networks to allow for connection. If they don’t, gamers may not be able to communicate with each other via the Internet, as devices only running IPv4 will not be compatible with those only on IPv6. This could impact upon the growing online multi-player game industry as certain users will be “cut off” from others.

When a game or service becomes IPv6 ‘enabled’, do the problems end there? What’s the estimated changeover period expected until?

The issue everyone faces is that IPv4 and IPv6 are not compatible. Therefore it will be necessary to dual stack, running IPv4 and IPv6 at the same time, to ensure that users can access all content and devices on the Internet.

The aim should now be to drive the adoption of native IPv6 networks immediately, so that users and network providers can be happy in the knowledge that their internet infrastructure is future proof. However, it could be many years before we are running an IPv6 only network, until then the two protocols will run alongside each other using the dual-stack approach.

We can imagine massively multiplayer online services like World of Warcraft being brought to its knees when IPs change over. Are there particular measures in place for and by MMO companies?

If the ISPs are ready it should result in better performing networks and better quality of service security measures, ensuring better game play for online gamers.

Recently it has been suggested that World of Warcraft, with over 12 million users around the globe, could drive IPv6 adoption amongst ISPs.

We are not aware of any measures in place by the MMO companies but like all online businesses and ISPs, they need to be preparing for IPv6, if they aren’t already. The RIPE NCC offers advice online, training and opportunities to share experiences of IPv6 adoption. We are working hard to raise awareness of the need for IPv6 amongst business and ISPs.

Anyone who has logged into their Netflix account since last Wednesday has notice the interface changes they have made to their website. The site unveiled this change last week with a focus on instant steaming, a change which did away with sortable lists and instead showcases larger title images and a new click-less way of viewing movie options. If you are like me you do miss the personal ratings under each title and is something I wish they would have left in the design. You now can hover over the box art to see that information which isn’t hugely upsetting but I like being able to browse without much interaction when trying to find something worth viewing. Call me lazy but that’s how it is for me.

Well if you don’t like the new design you certainly aren’t alone. When this change occurred, Netflix’s Director of Product Management Michael Spiegelman posted a short explaination on the site’s blog. As of today, over 4,894 users, mostly angry ones, have responded online about the changes. Some people, like myself, do like the changes but agree it will take a little time to get used to, many have responded with criticism saying that the new design is, “God-awfully hideous”, “Bulky and awkward”,”totally horrible”, and “jarring”. One user Eric liked most of the changes but said:

I like the look and feel but the mouse over delay to add to your queue is extremenly unintuitive. My vote is keep all the changes, but put back the DVD/Instant Queue options at the bottom like the rest of the site.

Seems Steve Swasey, Vice President at Netflix seems to understand changes need to come and the voiced minority can not rain on the parade:

Most of the comments have the same theme, which is ‘what was wrong with before?’ What we’re saying is we’ve tested this extensively, we know the vast, vast majority of people like this. It’s new, it’s easier, it’s cleaner.

When asked if they plan to keep the changes:

Absolutely. We made it and tested it and researched it and tried it out and everywhere we tried it, it had a better reception. Otherwise we wouldn’t have made the change.

And for once, a public company I deal with has made a change on common sense and testing. Or so it seems. Even though the change does upset the way I’m used to browsing it is extremely similar to what I was used to on the Wii, in Media Center, and on my Android phone. So while the changes do bring an abrupt change in what I’m used to web based I think after some usage I will like it better. Are there some things I would like to be changed? Absolutely but I’m sure they will come in time if enough people feel the way I do, if they don’t it’s just the way it works.

Get over yourselves, things change, get used to it.
