ZuneHD Games hands on video @Engadget

Hey Guys, check out this short video from the guys over at Engadget! They show a couple of the new games for the ZuneHD like PGR: Ferrari Edition and Audiosurf Tilt.

I have also checked out the piano application, and it's exactly what you'd think. A piano keyboard for the ZuneHD. It supports multi-touch chords, but only over one octave. Not too bad. Since I play trumpet though, I do plan on using this as a makeshift tuner in a pinch if I need to.

My opinion? I think these games/apps are a great start for Microsoft. They surely give us a good taste of the capabilities of the ZuneHD, both graphically and touch. I look forward to many more to come!

If you updated your Zune HD to v4.3 over the weekend, then head over to the Marketplace ASAP as Team Zune have a new crop of games for your downloading pleasure, and they are all FREE.

The newcomers include:

Piano
Audio Surf: Tilt

All look very slick and I am downloading even as we speak. Hopefully I should have a first impression or two posted in the next couple hours.

Zune HD update 4.3 Available!

Don't get your hopes up though... The apps aren't here, yet. This update is aimed at preparing the HD's for future app related updates, adding some subtle features, and fixing a few bugs. Here's what Zune has to say:

Zune HD firmware update: Today we released the v4.3 firmware update for Zune HD players; this update adds support for upcoming 3d games and applications, as well as an auto-suggest feature for better text input, and other minor improvements. Enjoy!

Hopefully this means apps will start to roll out, otherwise it'll be a set day sometime this month.

The Zune Originals / Zune Store just added the new artist to the gallery and have gone back to charging $15 for custom engraving and art themes. Not sure if they will include those nice posters and thank you cards as they did with the Zune 80GB.

What kind of custom artwork do you prefer, do you like or dislike the artist selection?

Play counts firmware update not yet scheduled?

Well as some of you may be aware of or have seen in the Zune forums or other blog articles such as this one from engadget. There is no expected firmware update or fix coming just yet for the play count issue.

Play counts keep track of how many times a song is played by a user so it is shared within the social and maintains how many times an artist, album, song is played. Especially when tagging users with who listens to the song the most with trophies visible from the MixView or Artist profile in the Marketplace.

This new issue is speculated to be an issue in the Zune HD device itself, not hardware but software related. It seems that during certain operations such as locking the screen or using apps can cause the Zune to not share its play counts with the online system during a synching operation.

Personally, I turn my counts on and off through out the year, I mean who wants the RIAA knowing what your listening too to generate another frivolous law suits on someone's social security and arthritis ridden grandma? Not me.
