A fascinating reading, I’d say it’s time to be careful but know in all areas where to act spontaneously. Memorial To John Collins V.C. St Tydfil’s Church, Merthyr Tydfil

I believe he is this town’s only Victoria Cross holder. This is his memorial, however his grave is in Pant Cemetery about 3 miles away.

On 31 October 1917 at Wadi Saba, Beersheba, Palestine, Corporal Collins repeatedly went out when his battalion was forced to lie out in the open under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, and brought back many wounded. In subsequent operations he rallied his men and led the final assault with great skill in spite of heavy fire at close range and uncut wire. He bayonetted 15 of the enemy and with a Lewis gun section covered the reorganization and consolidation most effectively although isolated and under fire from snipers and guns.

He later became a Sargent, in the same regiment, the The Royal Welch Fusiliers and died aged 70 in 1951.

This week we are having a break from the usual deck, again to a deck I own. This is the Fantastic Menagerie Tarot again from Magic Realist Press who as you might have guessed are my suppliers of choice for Tarot Decks. This is by far the most interesting reading I have done for myself in years as I have never had 3 cards come out from the same suit before. The suit of coins or pentacles is supposed to represent a final transformation of energy into form which sort of follows this reading closely. This is a really good reading, positive in so many ways. I am not sure what it all means this time round. Naturally I want to see results for my hard work over the years but this is almost like it coming all at one time. Sadly though the tradition of the "Poe Toaster", is now officially over. For those unfamiliar with the story an anonymous man wearing black clothes with a white scarf and a wide-brimmed hat, had from the early 1940s until 2009 left three roses and a half-empty bottle of cognac at Poe's grave. He hasn’t been seen since.

Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is considered the first modern detective story. His other tales like the Black Cat, The Tell Tale Heart, The Pit and The Pendulum and of course The Raven resonate with fans to this day, myself included.

Poe, was born in Boston in 1809, lived in Baltimore, London, New York, Philadelphia and Richmond, Virginia. During a visit to Baltimore in 1849, he died under mysterious circumstances at age 40. The cause of his death has been the subject of much speculation over the years, with theories ranging wildly from murder to rabies.

Poe was buried in his grandfather's lot in Westminster Burial Ground, in what is now downtown Baltimore. In 1875, his body and that of his aunt and mother-in-law Maria Clemm were moved to a prominent spot by the entrance with a memorial marker. The body of his young wife and cousin, Virginia, was exhumed and reburied with him 10 years later.

Whatever the truth of the Toaster’s demise and also of Poe’s demise it’s mystery that may never be solved.

For all of you friggatriskaidekaphobics out there, Happy Friday the 13th.

Tellers of tall tales blame the fear on the Knights Templar, or maybe just on King Philip IV. The order was famously arrested all across France on Friday, October 13, 1307. The story of this genesis of the superstition was trotted out as factual in Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.

There is also the Christian take that it’s because there were 13 at the last supper.

Fears of the date Friday the 13th don't really appear anywhere in print much before 1907. In fact, the phobia may have been popularized by the 1907 novel Friday, the Thirteenth by Thomas W. Lawson, about a stockbroker who engineers a panic on Wall Street on a Friday the 13th by playing on superstitious fears of the number 13.

Just to be contrarian, some insist that the proper term for fear of Friday the 13th is paraskevidekatriaphobia.

Paraskevidekatriaphobia is a relatively recent term created in the 1990s by Therapist Dr. Donald Dossey for fear of Friday the 13th. The older term is friggatriskaidekaphobia. Friday is Frigga's day. Frigga was an ancient Scandinavian fertility goddess, who was worshipped on the 6th day of the week (so I suppose people have gotten frisky on Fridays for a very long time). Frigga was pegged as a witch by early Christians, and so the 6th day of the week was referred to as the witches' sabbath.

Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13.

Another bit of trivia relating to the number 13 for you. Mass murderers Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy all have 13 letters in them, in case you are the kind that worries about such things.

Anyway personally I have had nothing but good luck on the 13th, so who knows will today bring me good luck too?

Whilst we normally associate the death card with there literally being a death happening and people leaving our lives in one shape or another, I always see the card as transformation, from the old to the new. I am sure I am not alone in noticing today Google has decided to mark the birthday of the man who created what would become a Goth stereotype in the delightfully sexy and macabre Morticia Addams.

Of course we have all watched the movies, some of us, me included have them on DVD and the above still is of course from the original. To this day it’s one of my favourite films. There was of course the cartoon strips that started it all off before that, the TV show and latterly the musical.

Charles Addams would have been 100 today but he died sadly in 1988. Bizarrely it was something that would become another legend of the horror genre that would inspire him to create the Addams Family that was his foiled attempt at burglary of a house on Elm Street, Westfield, New Jersey. This together with another robbery and his love of the Presbyterian Cemetery on Mountain Avenue would prove to be his inspiration.

He married 3 times, describing his second wife in that she “combined Morticia-like looks with diabolical legal scheming,”

The Addams Family television series began after David Levy, a television producer, approached Addams with an offer to create it with a little help. All Addams had to do was give his characters names and more characteristics for the actors to use in portrayals. The series ran on ABC for two seasons, from 1964 to 1966 and has been repeated many times all over the world.

He married his third wife in a pet cemetery which I find quite amusing, for a man who created a family who would have felt right at home there.

And I am ready for it. I am looking forward to the changes being brought about by me in this coming year. For far too long I have accepted life as it is and not got anywhere fast, or come to that slow. I now have people watching me who want the best for me and only third hand access for those who don’t want the best for me. My aims for 2012 are as follows.

1. Education

To learn more about myself and what interests me in all areas of my life.

2. Employment

To find a job worthy of my time and gives me the satisfaction both financially and career wise I hunger for as well as the atmosphere to be innovative and creative in.

3. Expansion

Make new friends and expand what I do with the existing friends base

4. Enhancement

Make my existing real friendships better

6. Eclecticism

To keep building the personal images I need to progress both in my social life and in my work life

8. Encapsulation

To record what I have done more and also to record more and potentially share more.

9. Exploration

To visit new places, but also to explore myself fully to see what satisfies me in every field of life.

Obviously to enjoy all that is on offer during the year good or bad and to learn from it.

Wow what a weird but potentially exciting reading, I am still examining my relationships with people I am close to and seeing what they can do to help me. I don’t feel that anyone is particularly being selfish but that may be because I don’t believe doing what is right for yourself is being selfish at all. Sure I am feeling slightly more romantic than I have for a long time, but no outlet to speak of. I am enjoying making a few new friends via other social networks right now which is really nice for me. Maybe in time things will change in that respect. Time will tell. An interesting reading, I find quite fascinating in places, my mood has been somewhat that things need to change in my career as we all know. I am prepared to listen and this does effect my mood as I show empathy towards my friends. I know what I need in the time to come and this reading says I am feeling confident enough to get it in my view. I am certainly willing to keep the career card in my focus as that is my area of most disappointment recently.

(The) Eden House

The Eden House is a collaborative musical project, started by Stephen Carey (This Burning Effigy and 'Adoration') and involving a collection of guest musicians and vocalists; then later joined by Tony Pettitt (formerly of Fields of the Nephilim).

Their debut album Smoke & Mirrors was released on April 6, 2009 in the United States and Europe, and May 4 in the United Kingdom. Vocals were provided by Monica Richards (of Faith and the Muse), Evi Vine, Amandine Ferrari and All About Eve's Julianne Regan. Other contributors include violinist Bob Loveday, former Fields of The Nephilim members Peter Yates and drummers Simon Rippin (previously with Nefilimand NFD) and Bob Irwin (who has also worked with Johnny Cash and Van Morrison). The Eden House toured in 2009 and 2010, with Ferrari, Richards and Vine sharing the vocal duties. Their second album "Through the Looking Glass” as a CD and DVD set was released in 2010. Currently they are on tour and I am going to have to find a way to see them!

Elvira

Come on, no true self respecting Gothic Gentleman can say he doesn’t like the “sassy lassy with the classy chassis” and I am no exception. Elvira is a constant reminder to me that life is fun, even when you are on the dark side of it. If anything it should be more so in my view. This video is a prime example, when I first saw it years ago, I thought Elvira was going to take off from swinging those tassels so much!
