I received my 400t about a month ago. It seems to work very well. The only thing that I was disappointed in was that most of the trails that I regularly go on aren't on the built in map. Since this was supposed to be the trail model for hiking and such, I expected to have it loaded with most of the trails that I go on. I guess I will have to buy the upgraded map to get them at a cost of 129.00. Other then that, It seems to be a great unit. I have used the Geo-caching part and it works great. The unit I got didn't work properly. On a 21 mile trip it would only give me street directions when there's a FWY ramp just four blocks from my house. There were so many little streets I got dizzy. I decided to take the FWY after all, at which point it got lost and told me I was on a street I've never heard of. Finally I think it recognize the FWY I was in (or maybe not) because on every ramp I pass it kept telling me to exit, all this while the map got stuck and kept going over and over the sames streets I had gone by like 5 miles ago.
Aside from that trip I tested on trips to local stores I usually go to. Not happy with the results there either, it got lost when I turn onto a major Blvd told me I was on a whole different street.

To be honest, the name Nexstar does not mean anything to me. The only reason I bought this GPS, because it runs iGO 8 navigation software. Anybody who is familiar with that piece of marvel knows what I am talking about. IGO 8 have won the second time the Vision Mobility Award of Excellence. They hold the "Best Navigation Software" title for two years in a row in Europe. That means something. So, what is this Nexstar ME do? Knowing iGO 8, I took a gamble. There is very little information about this "black sheep" GPS on the Internet. Even on the Nexstar homepage say almost nothing useful. The package came with all the necessary hardware pieces that are standard for today's GPS package. After turning the unit on, it scrolled through a very long fine print. Using my finger I touched to accept the agreement button and I found myself in a menu where I had a choice to go navigation, music, photos or to a setup area where you can fine-tune your unit, like time and date, brightness, volume, alignment etc. I picked navigation and the unit vent into loading mode. It took a long time to load up the navigation software. That indicated that the hardware must equipped with slower CPU. It runs CE 5.0 by the way, which is no surprise. The plus side was however, and I was a little bit surprised, when the application finally loaded up, the unit already hooked up with the navigation satellites. My previous experience with Mio P550, which was a PDA with navigation build in, - separate SiRF III chip, and also was running iGO 8, left me regularly waiting five or more minutes to find the satellites. So, this was good. Later, I found out that hooking up with the satellites is no problem for this unit and it is always full strength. As far as navigation goes, it is very stable, accurate and no sign of slow CPU. The interface is fantastic and joy to use the finger touch. There are two modes to pick, simple and advanced. The default is simple. Simple mode is OK, but want to learn and get into advance mode is better. The GPS voice is clear and loud, came as default. I have no problem to hear it even in my old noisy car. It does TTS (Text-To-Speech), but you need to pick that option in the voice setup. For those who wish to push the limit of this GPS, I am happy to announce it is also a "geeg heaven". Matter of hours I was able to add different languages and voices to the unit, and I am sure adding other maps, like countries of Europe are no problem either. Although on the Nexstar's website says, no other maps are available. Right. Interesting to know for example that iGO 8 has single-handedly the most accurate and detailed maps of Eastern Europe. Anyway, I think I will like this GPS. The fast satellite hookup, the marvelous interface, loud and clear voice, stable navigation are all good ones. There are really no negatives about this unit yet. Sure it is missing bluetooth and other fancy features like FM radio and transmission, but you always have to compromise performance, quality and price. Best GPS in nuvi line. I replaced my nuvi 760 with 885t,very bad experience. I rarely give reviews online, but I was so disappointed, I have to air my frustrations. Thankfully the nuvi 1490t worked perfectly w/o any problems so far. Got all the things I was looking for:
- free traffic subscription (ads not noticable and not a distraction)
- lane assist, lets you know which lane number you should be (very helpful in freeway area in Los Angeles and San Diego)
- Junction View - a plus
- blue tooth - works seamlessly with my nokia phone, one programed it links automatically when ever my gps is on
- volume - very loud, I just use 60% (compared to nuvi885t at 100% I cannot hear instructions)
- speaking of street names - pronunciation is getting better
- satellite link - fast
- recalculation - fast
- display - very clear

This case definitively fits larger gps. The will move around a bit as the case is a little big. I put mine in the elastic pouch and it holds it well. It is semi hard so it helps limit damage. There is no such things as a perfect GPS. Regardless of the brand they all have some sort of flaw (s). Now the 740 Lives is the closest one to perfection. I have tried the Garmin 265T, 765T, 885T, 1490T. These models have several things in common, overall the don't function very well. Examples: Touch Screen is very unreliable,even after recalibration. The touch screen of the 740 is very responsive and accurate
The 1490T when you select the option to avoid traffic while enroute it will turn itself off.
Beside the 1490T the speaker on all the other models is very low, even after turning the volume all the way up. The speaker on the 740 is loud and very clear, including using it with your phone.
I also found that the 740 Lives map is more up today than the garmin is, even after the update the Garmin to the newest map.
The Junction View of the 740 is awesome it will show within 0.5 miles before your exit and it will stay there until you are on the exit or ramp, the junction view of any of these Garmin will show only few seconds before is gone, literally you not even have time to see it.
One disavantage, and this is my personal opinion is that the 740 is a GPS for advance user, it has some much option that I think it can confuse anybody without GPS experiece.
In both the 740 and the Garmin is very easy to connect your blue tooth cell phone.
I have read some people complaining about the voice command on the 740, he/she said that youn have to touch the screen in order to activate it. This is not necessarily true if you have the blue tooth remote control for the 740, which you can use to activate it.
Something that a really love about the 740 is that when your making a turn and you have to make one or several immediate turn after that, the GPS will warm you with enough time and distance in advance, vs the garmin which will warm within seconds or yards of your turn
This is a cool option, be able to modify your own GPS map. EX: Add any type of POI, change or add speed limit, close or open road. There is a new gas station close to my house, which doesn't show on my GPS, with this option I was able to added it.

Off a few feet wouldn't be bad, but roads are yards off. One nearby road is 69 yards wrong!

The worst is there are roads that don't exist! There is a meandering (over a mile long) road through my whole property (350 acres). There has never been a road there and I have topo maps going way back and deeds back to the 1700's. They have no idea where it came from and told me to report it. Goes right through one of my ponds! No way to fix it except load another map! The readings are correct because I've used it side by side with my old Etrex Vista. I'd hate to have to rely on this thing to get me somewhere. Streams and other landmarks are accurate. They should provide all of us with topo maps and junk theirs!

Screen is hard to see in daylight as well...
