Fitness and technology, are they a match made together for a healthy lifestyle? Well, of course, they are. For more than years of developments, there are lots of fitness equipment, gears, and fitness suits or apparel created for the consumers, fitness experts, and health enthusiasts. These are all developments to create less tension equipment when doing the exercise routine or moreover to give a better result.

Remember the exercise machines in the 50s up to the 70s? Well, if you're going to look back, I'm sure you're going to react 'what is that thing?' And probably some would comment 'Jurrasic.' It is indeed if you're going to compare then and now.

Virtual Hackathon With NASA to Develop COVID-19 Solutions

The U.S. space agency National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA), European Space Agency (ESA), and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) are inviting coders, entrepreneurs, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, artists, and technologists to participate in a virtual hackathon May 30-31 dedicated to putting open data to work in developing solutions to issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the global Space Apps COVID-19 Challenge, participants from around the world will create virtual teams that – during a 48-hour period – will use Earth observation data to propose solutions to COVID-19-related challenges ranging from studying the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and its spread to the impact the disease is having on the Earth system. Registration for this challenge opens in mid-May.

"There’s a tremendous need for our collective ingenuity right now," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. "I can’t imagine a more worthy focus than COVID-19 on which to direct the energy and enthusiasm from around the world with the Space Apps Challenge that always generates such amazing solutions."

The unique capabilities of NASA and its partner space agencies in the areas of science and technology enable them to lend a hand during this global crisis. Since the start of the global outbreak, Earth science specialists from each agency have been exploring ways to use unique Earth observation data to aid understanding of the interplay of the Earth system – on global to local scales – with aspects of the COVID-19 outbreak, including, potentially, our ability to combat it. The hackathon will also examine the human and economic response to the virus.

ESA will contribute data from the Sentinel missions (Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, and Sentinel-5P) in the context of the European Copernicus program, led by the European Commission, along with data from Third Party contributing Missions, with a focus on assessing the impact on climate change and greenhouse gases, as well as impacts on the economic sector. ESA also is contributing Earth observation experts for the selection of the competition winners and the artificial-intelligence-powered EuroDataCube.

"EuroDatacube will enable the best ideas to be scaled up to a global level," said Josef Aschbacher, Director of Earth Observation Programmes at ESA. "The pandemic crisis has a worldwide impact, therefore international cooperation and sharing of data and expertise with partners like NASA and JAXA seem the most suitable approach."

JAXA is making Earth-observing data available from its satellite missions, including ALOS-2, GOSAT, GOSAT-2, GCOM-C, GCOM-W, and GPM/DPR. "JAXA welcomes the opportunity to be part of the hackathon," said JAXA Vice President Terada Koji. "I believe the trilateral cooperation among ESA, NASA, and JAXA is important to demonstrate how Earth observation can support global efforts in combating this unprecedented challenge."

Space Apps is an international hackathon that takes place in cities around the world. Since 2012, teams have engaged with NASA's free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space. The COVID-19 Challenge will be the program’s first global virtual hackathon. Space Apps 2019 included more than 29,000 participants at 225 events in 71 countries, developing more than 2,000 hackathon solutions over the course of one weekend.

Many Filipinos participated in this annual hackathon since 2016. Recently, a dengue mapping forecasting system was developed by data scientists from CirroLytix using satellite and climate data with the goal of addressing the sustainable development goals of the United Nations. This web application, called Project AEDES won globally for the best use of data. "Earth observation data has the potential to be used in fighting epidemics and outbreaks threatening humanity nowadays, as well as to analyze its socio-economic impact," according to software developer Michael Lance M. Domagas, who led the Philippine hackathon in collaboration with De La Salle University, PLDT, Department of Science and Technology, United Nations Development Programme, and the U.S. embassy. The very first Philippine winner used citizen science and environmental data to develop a smartphone application informing fishermen the right time to catch fish. ISDApp is currently being incubated at Animo Labs.

Taiwan builds an ecosystem of pandemic prevention product

And speaking of adaptability, Taiwan formed an ecosystem of pandemic prevention products and related industries, aimed at offering assistance in the fight against the raging COVID-19 outbreak, the country’s trade representatives said Monday.

Taiwan has already shown the world its resilience, integration capacity and advanced medical practices. Walter Yeh, President and CEO of TAITRA, said at a recent online product launch that Taiwan has already established a well-organized deployment and pandemic prevention product ecosystem that will definitely broaden the horizon and scope of the supply chain for Taiwan's medical industry.

The one-hour launch was part of a series of events held by TAITRA to highlight the country’s strengths and to boost economic activities amid the global standstill, according to the trade promotion body.

Webinars jointly organized with the National Cheng Kung University Hospital attracted 14,000 Indian medical staff. A virtual healthcare pavilion, which consists of 42 medical, assistive devices or smart medical products from 33 Taiwan Excellence Awards winners was also in place, Yeh said.

Such measures effectively remove the boundaries of time and space and even the rules of social distancing, he noted, adding that international buyers and interested individuals can engage their desired products or Taiwan Excellence Awards winning companies with a few simple clicks or swipes.

Chern-chyi Chen, Director General of Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade, also spoke at the event. He noted that the Taiwan government has already implemented various measures to assist industries to respond to the impact. The agency, Chen said, vowed to expand advertising and promotion in international markets and to help enterprises win business opportunities during the toughest times.

The product launch included Mediland's disinfection robot, Great Group Medical's respiratory device, APEX Medical's healthcare solution, Taiwan Stanch's surgical face masks, ONYX's telehealth and smart hospital product from ONYX, vaccine and test kit from Medigen Vaccine Biologics and BluSense Diagnostics, all of which are pandemic prevention products.

Other brands present at the product launch included Radiant Innovation, Tex Year, Asiatic Fiber, Advantech, IEI Integration, Rice Ear, QS Control and Kimforest. The group presented their innovative pandemic-prevention products to the world at the online press conference, which attracted over 200 participants from Japan, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, the Philippines, Korea, South Africa, Egypt, Australia, among others.

(NASDAQ: ZM) today announced robust security enhancements with the upcoming general availability of Zoom 5.0, a key milestone in the company’s 90-day plan to proactively identify, address, and enhance the security and privacy capabilities of its platform. By adding support for AES 256-bit GCM encryption, Zoom will provide increased protection for meeting data and resistance against tampering.

Network
AES 256-bit GCM encryption: Zoom is upgrading to the AES 256-bit GCM encryption standard, which offers increased protection of your meeting data in transit and resistance against tampering. This provides confidentiality and integrity assurances on your Zoom Meeting, Zoom Video Webinar, and Zoom Phone data. Zoom 5.0, which is slated for release within the week, supports GCM encryption, and this standard will take effect once all accounts are enabled with GCM. System-wide account enablement will take place on May 30. Control Data Routing: The account admin may choose which data center regions their account-hosted meetings and webinars use for real-time traffic at the account, group, or user level.

User Experience and Controls

Security icon: Zoom’s security features, which had previously been accessed throughout the meeting menus, are now grouped together and found by clicking the Security icon in the meeting menu bar on the hosts’ interface. Robust host controls: Hosts will be able to “Report a User” to Zoom via the Security icon. They may also disable the ability for participants to rename themselves. For education customers, screen sharing now defaults to the host only.

Waiting Room default-on: Waiting Room, an existing feature that allows a host to keep participants in individual virtual waiting rooms before they are admitted to a meeting, is now on by default for education, Basic, and single-license Pro accounts. All hosts may now also turn on the Waiting Room while their meeting is already in progress.

Meeting password complexity and default-on: Meeting passwords, an existing Zoom feature, is now on by default for most customers, including all Basic, single-license Pro, and K-12 customers. For administered accounts, account admins now have the ability to define password complexity (such as length, alphanumeric, and special character requirements). Additionally, Zoom Phone admins may now adjust the length of the pin required for accessing voicemail.

Cloud recordings passwords: Passwords are now set by default to all those accessing cloud recordings aside from the meeting host and require a complex password. For administered accounts, account admins now have the ability to define password complexity.

Secure Account Contact Sharing: Zoom 5.0 will support a new data structure for larger organizations, allowing them to link contacts across multiple accounts so people can easily and securely search and find meetings, chat, and phone contacts.

Dashboard enhancement: Admins on business, enterprise, and education plans can view how their meetings are connecting to Zoom data centers in their Zoom Dashboard. This includes any data centers connected to HTTP Tunnel servers, as well as Conference Room Connectors and gateways.

Additional: Users may now opt to have their Zoom Chat notifications not show a snippet of their chat; new non-PMI meetings now have 11-digit IDs for added complexity; and during a meeting, the meeting ID and Invite option have been moved from the main Zoom interface to the Participants menu, making it harder for a user to accidentally share their meeting ID.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has announced the 2019 results of the international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) System, making OPPO the top 5 PCT filer in the rankings by company applicants with 1,927 applications

By filing one international patent application under the PCT, which is an international treaty with more than 150 contracting states, applicants can seek protection for an invention in a large number of countries. Since the start of 2009, OPPO has been working on expanding its patent applications globally in various areas of technologies, having managed to move its WIPO international patent applications ranking from last year’s No. 17 to this year’s No. 5 after years of deep cultivation.

By March 2020, OPPO had more than 43,000 global patent applications, with 16,000 already having been authorized. Among the total applications, about 88%, or more than 38,000, are invention-related. OPPO has filed more than 3,000 5G patent applications, and 1,900 AI patent applications. More than 6,100 image patents have been filed globally, among which 2,000 have been authorized. At the same time, in the area of fast charging, OPPO has filed more than 2,700 applications globally, with more than 1100 being authorized.
